Wilderness Wood is wicked, it is probably the most multi-tasking piece of woodland in the entire UK. It is a piece of working woodland, they grow various types of tree including sweet chestnuts and pine trees which are coppiced and sold either as timber, or made into furniture which they sell at the shop. They sell Christmas trees in December. It is also a recreational piece of woodland, and a conservation area. There a lots of trails for people to follow, and they hold events like egg hunts at Easter, wood sculpture courses, story telling, wildlife hunting and much much more. They have a shop and a café which sells delicious food, often stuff sourced from the woodland, particularly in the autumn when the chestnuts are ready to be eaten. We collected loads when we went for a walk there, which we had roasted up in the evening - delicious. It costs about £3 for adult entry into Wilderness Wood, although you can visit the cafe and shop for free. They give you a map with the trails marked when you buy your ticket. I wish I had kids just so I could take them to Wilderness Wood all the time.
