We enjoyed the wines and preferred sweet wines to dry wines. Dry wines, the last in the menu was our favorite. Also loved the goat cheese plate.

So cute! We came here for Fall Festival and it was the perfect day. The kids enjoyed all the activities (pumpkins panting, bubble station, etc). We also did a tasting and the staff were so friendly and informative. The grounds were large and beautiful to wander around to walk off the wine. I only wish I had room to eat more of their peach ice cream!

Many long time Hill Country travelers are aware of the 200-acre Wildseed Farms location along highway 290 towards Fredericksburg. As one of the largest working wild seed farms in the U.S., it has always been a must stop destination for visitors. The latest expansion of this business is now a vineyard and winery. John and Marilyn Thomas started this dream with about 28 acres in 2015 which expanded to 42 acres featuring 13 varietals of grapes. Coming from generations of farmers, this next step seemed only fitting as they ventured their feet into the growing Texas wine world. An additional 12 acres of vines were added in 2024, so this is quite a burgeoning vineyard. Many HWY 290 wine travelers may remember Wedding Oak tasting room being located here for a while. With renovations and an expanded tasting room, Wildseed wines officially has its own tasting room to call home. Wine production began in 2019, and their own label began popping up in 2021. Dabs Hollimon, from the former 1851 Vineyards days, has assisted with their launch as a wine consultant. Their fruit is currently sourced from both the Texas High Plains and the Hill Country AVAs. There are plenty of different wines to sample on their lengthy tasting menu, so make your flight selection and prepare for some fun as you sample through some interesting finds. The 2022 Oaked Albariño was the first varietal to sample. This white wine has light oak notes with touches of pear and lemon and a nice tropical sensation to it that you will find very enjoyable. The second wine sampled was the 2021 Trebbiano. This classic Italian varietal had some good minerality to compliment the apple and lime notes. For the Rosé wine, the Primrose was sipped. This Texas Hill Country Mourvèdre Rosé was a beauty with a sweetness on the nose but smooth and dry with notes of melon across the palate. Venturing into the red wines, the 2019 Sangiovese was sampled next. This Texas High plains AVA sourced fruit poured a light red hue in the glass with notes of plums and cherries. The second red to taste was the 2021 Aglianico. This Hill Country sourced wine is one mighty red featuring bold cherry notes, great acids, and a good finish. A wine worthy of pairing with a nice Italian feast. The last red to try was the 2018 Tannat. This mighty bold red wine was from their beginnings and is full of rich flavor and mouthfeel for those bold red wine lovers. As an extra treat, both the white and red Sangrias were sampled. Made fresh, you cannot go wrong with all the lush fruit and vibrancy that either Sangrias has to offer, especially on a warm day. With the extra-large tasting room, outdoor patio seating, and great hospitality, there is much to savor and enjoy during a stop at this winery. Enjoy all you can, walk around, and take in all the magic that this hill county location has to offer. You will be pleased with their wine selection and should be able to find a few new favorites to take home like we did. Cheers!

We arrived at 4:30 shopped the front for a few minutes then when through to the tasting room to have a glass of Sangria, delicious. We had both flavors I give that 5 ⭐️.But I would give the service 1 ⭐️. The woman who seemed to be running things ignored us for the first few minutes. There was only a group of four there beside us. She finally seated us and then ignored us until 5:05 pm. We ordered 2 bottles and wanted a cheese board but she informed us that the kitchen closes at 5:00 pm. Even though they are open until 6:00pm. When we went to pay I wanted to pay in cash. She looked at me and said really cash? I replied you don’t take cash? She said no I’ve already counted my drawer and don’t want to do it again. We were going to purchase other bottles but because of her lack of wanting to be paid I n cash we chose not to purchase. I’ve seen lots of bad reviews through out this post over poor service. Maybe someone should take note and do some training.

One of the best wineries in this Texas area for the nature bird lover! The wildflower theme is a great concept and branding, but the quality of the wines speak for themselves! The service is awesome and I learned so much about the flavors and notes of all the wines they offer! Glasses of wine run about $10-$14 but they are all great!

The service was amazing, Deb loves her job. We enjoyed the afternoon and the tasting.

Google
Had an excellent time here. The wine selection features a variety of unique tasting wines, and the atmosphere and host matches Texas more so than than other vineyards in the area. This winery is exactly what we were looking for Texas wine instead of the business-esque, formal wine tastings which left us with a sour taste in our mouth. The host, Royal, was excellent and provided us with a great insight into the wine and gave us the experience we were looking for.

Bought a beer & peach belini first day - delicious. Went back for wine tasting and thoroughly enjoyed it. Got three dry and three sweet. Bought the tasty white sangria. Michelle was a wonderful, professional, accommodating hostess.

Yelp
We visited on a Saturday and braced for "crowds." But it wasn't bad at all! The shop itself is big and has soooo many crafty type, home decor and more! The winery on site is good! We bought a bottle, and proceeded to tour the grounds with a (plastic!) glass of wine! We sat outside in the patio area for a bit then toured the wildflowers. Beautiful! The poppies weren't in season... I'd love to come back to see when these are in bloom. This is definitely a great way to spend an afternoon!

Yelp
Came on a Sunday in our way out of town. They have lots of events but unfortunately none this day. We were able to stroll through the flower garden for free and get some good pics. Also saw a lot of butterflies which was great. It's a decent size and had a souvenir and separate food shop. It was a nice stop down if they're doing an event stop by! They have a large parking lot with free parking

Belynda H.

Yelp
Need flowers? Need wine? Need pots and gifts? Hurry over here!! If you get a chance to hear about the farm, make sure you check in for that tour. There was a talk and then a walking tour. Please don't forget to taste a little wine. The white sangria was my favorite. The restrooms were clean, and the workers were very friendly and efficient.

Sabrina S.

Yelp
Very cool place to check out garden decor items/gifts, butterflies, plants, and of course wildflower seeds! We immediately walked into the gift shop- so many cute items ... a little pricey, but I came out with some lovely local goods. They have one room dedicated to seeds only for purchase. I purchased a bag of TX wildflowers and a bag of butterflies garden seeds. I can't wait to plant this fall for spring bloom next year. Outdoors, the flower gardens had already bloomed and had been harvested unfortunately, so there was nothing much to see in the fields. But, the butterfly garden was where the action was happenin'. Zoom in, up close and personal to the many butterflies fluttering in this garden. There's also a small soothing waterfall in the midst of it all. Took a photo of a cute frog that stopped for a photo opp in front of me. Lots of garden decor throughout the grounds for purchase. Too bad we missed the flower fields, oh well... I look forward to planting my wildflowers later this year!

Latifah R.

Yelp
Stopped in on the way out of town and enjoyed being able to walk around and enjoy the flowers, and watching the butterflies. This is a one stop shop for wine, plants, flowers, and outdoor decor for your home. I tried the red sangria and it wasn't my favorite but thats ok. That's why it's a tasting. There was live music too. This was a solid spot.

Yelp
Wildseed Farms was a cool spot my friends and I hit up on the way out of Fredericksburg. Located right on 290, it's hard to miss this massive farm with all the beautiful plants and flowers right there off the side of the road. Come to find out, this is one of the nation's largest wildflower farms. We got here bright and early when they opened up, but that parking lot had a steady stream of people pulling in right after us. There is no cost of admission. Right when you walk in, you are in their massive gift shop that has all kind of home decor and little knickknacks. There's a whole area that is dedicated to seeds that are available to purchase. Once you've made your rounds inside, there is a whole outdoor nursery with all kinds of pretty flowers and plants for purchase. If you worked up a little hunger, they have the Brewbonnet Biergarten that has snacks, beer, ice-cream and all kinds of bottled and canned delicacies for purchase. If you didn't get your fill of wine in Fredericksburg, there is a winery tasting room where you can do wine tastings. After all that, you can take a leisurely stroll through the trails and gardens where you can see all the beautiful flowers that grow and sell. They also have a butterfly trail that you can do for a small fee. Overall, this was a cool spot and worth stopping for if you appreciate nature and beautiful flowers. I picked up a few seed packs for my folks and they blossomed nicely. I would stop by again if in the area.

Yelp
Great place to share some wine and snacks on a Saturday afternoon. There was a guy picking a guitar and singing. Great vibe! The wine was good, the service was a tiny bit disorganized - it kinda looked like they were short staffed. We had the hummus plate and it was a little pricey for the size, but tasted VERY good! My biggest complaint was the number of Reserved tables, with no one sitting at them. We saw people waiting for a table, yet easily 1/3 of the tables were reserved and empty.

Natalia R.

Yelp
Parking - easy, abundant huge lot with some shaded spots Nursery (plants) + trail + winery tasting room. Strongly recommend the soft search peach icecream; it was delicious! Fresh, caramelized peach notes, and plentiful. I may have to get another before driving home! Winery tasting room - had live music on Saturday, walk ins welcome, dog-friendly. Great, friendly service. Many wine options to try from at bottle prices starting around $28. Has indoor and outdoor seating.

Kei S.

Yelp
We absolutely loved it here! Didn't have to wait long at all. There was a cute cat there, the wine was great. Our server was a younger man I think his name started with an L, he was so kind and sweet and was working so hard! Amazing! 10/10 experience and I can't wait to go back! The white sangria was to die for I almost got a bottle but it has to stay chilled and we were going to be out the rest of the day. Vanilla soft serve is a steal for the price! Beautiful place to stop for sure.

Chanele R.

Yelp
This is such a special little place. I have been there when it was bustling in the springtime with people looking at the amazing flowers (and they are amazing!), but my favorite visit was a very cold, blustery winter day when my friend and I did a wine tasting by the huge stone fireplace. The hostess was beyond friendly, a real Texan lady, and she chatted with us about wine and the beautiful setting and even a bit about herself. The wines were almost all very good (there was maybe one or two that wasn't to my taste), but it was a pleasant surprise to taste so many top notch wines in such a comfortable, charming setting. We learned that all of the wine bottle labels are designed by the owner's daughter, who has quite an artistic eye! As we were leaving, live music was setting up, which would have been nice, but we had places to go. They do have some light bites, if you need a snack with your wine.

Jadelynn D.

Yelp
Deb was so great! She was so knowledgeable and she made our experience so fun! I've never been to a winery before and she made my experience worth it. I will definitely be returning!! thank you Deb!

Rick S.

Yelp
Wildseed Farms is the largest working wildflower farm in the United States. The grounds have a large store containing seeds and gifts and there are extensive display gardens and plant retail areas surrounding the building. The wildflower walking trail provides a lot of ideas for using native and other plants at home. It is educational and enjoyable to visit here. Highly recommended.

Teresa H.

Yelp
Beautiful! We were lucky enough to be there in the spring and it was absolutely beautiful. Bought some seeds, great gift shop. Definitely worth a stop

Lexi H.

Yelp
Super cute spot! We can on a Monday morning on the way out of town. We walked through all of the wild flowers and left with some seeds we're excited to plant. I'd come back for the wine! I asked if they sold their seeds in the DFW area and they only ship unfortunately.

Brittany M.

Yelp
Visited this place on a Saturday later in the day and it was busy so there was a small wait to be seated for a tasting and/or food. It was a very short wait though because the staff all pitched in to get tables ready. The wines were good and they have a sweet wine tasting. Their sangria was like an adult sunnyd (got that from a staff member and very accurate). The cheese and fruit board we ordered was one of the best we've had. One cheese tasted like blueberries which was unique and delicious. Loved the Brie combination as well. Every table in there ordered some kind of food board so they must all be delicious and popular. The grounds were beautiful so make sure to walk around when you get a chance. They have a large gift shop with a variety of options and a separate shop with food items. Great winery overall!

Debbie N.

Yelp
I'm little disappointed in all the dead flowers and plants. They need watering. Did enjoy butterfly garden and shop.

Angelika R.

Yelp
Super cute, all the flowers are so beautiful Loved the butterfly area- We went for bouquet picking but sadly it is tomorrow. I didn't know it was done daily :( It is however a great place- the register girl who worked today 10/4/24 in the food area this afternoon with dark hair was so sweet. Sorry I didn't catch your name.

Skye N.

Yelp
Stop by here, you will be pleasantly surprised. Wine was great, beautiful place, service phenomenal.

William L.

Yelp
Perfect for any plant and garden lovers. Beautiful scenery, great place for a photoshoot and an ideal background for a headshot or your next dating profile picture.. Scenic walkthrough from the outdoor garden to the store which offers a variety of gardening supplies, seeds, flowers, décor, gifts, etc. They also offer wine tastings and a few food options. There's a butterfly garden at a small cost or you can just tour the outdoor area for free. Overall it's a great place on the way in or out of Fredericksburg. The flowers fields are beautiful and there are unique and seasonal blooms, definitely worth a visit!

Keandra P.

Yelp
This is worth the visit. Came here with my yelp group, and everyone enjoyed it. Great for groups, or solo when in the area. Lots of stuff to do and see. Check out the butterfly garden and zen out. Or do a wine tasting and enjoy a snack. Or buy some seeds & plants to start your own garden at home. Most of all, enjoy the beautiful Texas staple, bluebonnets!

Andres R.

Yelp
Last stop before leaving Fredericksburg. It was a great, peaceful place to explore with the family and friends. They had some cool souvenirs and items but the selection of jams, preserves, and farm made food was awesome. Sadly we couldn't visit the meadows or vineyard but I would recommend you do!

Lori H.

Yelp
EVERY ASPECT The gardening, the winery and the AMAZING customer service! Highly recommend

Juncel A.

Yelp
This place is a plant store, winery, and garden packed into one! We had a wine tasting reservation here. We had our two pups in tow as they said everywhere in the property was dog friendly. We asked if we could sit outside and our server said - "you can't, I'm the only one here" - needless to say it was a rocky start and we almost left because of that. We survived the tasting, and we thought they were good for Texas wines. Service also got better eventually, maybe the server was just overwhelmed. I think the best part of this place is the fact that you can roam around and check out the plant store and the wild flowers with your dogs. It's very relaxing. The place is huge so you could easily spend a few hours here. Next time we'll probably just get a bottle and enjoy it in one of their many outside tables - that way we won't have to bother anyone for service. Overall, we'd come back for the ambiance. Definitely a good place to add to your hill country wine tour.

Michael V.

Yelp
If you're coming here, it's probably because they have the most beautiful property in the area. Wildflowers everywhere the eye can see, butterflies, and an incredible nursery! The wine was really just ok, we certainly had better wine during our time in Fredericksburg, but as far as places go to get out and walk around, Wildseed can't be beat for that! Like most places in Fredericksburg on a Saturday, expect it to be extremely busy! They are dog friendly outside.

Suley Z.

Yelp
Wonderful place with a nice sandwich food. Beautiful poppy fields. Great jelly selection as well. Cute place to stop and see

Corey L.

Yelp
I will say this is a nice quite place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine, and see great plants and flowers. We became a wine club member and go here at least once a month. The service this particular day was not on par. The wine area had good service Josh was a nice guy and had speedy service. Inside the garden area the service was not so good. The cashier was short tempered and it was still early. I was shocked at the differences of service. I will say at the end of it each day is a new day and service could be anything.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Great spot for a hike. They have a nice trail thru fields of garden flowers at no cost! But there's so much to buy here: flowers, plants, wine, food, shirts and hats etc etc. we had a blast and highly recommend a stop when in Fredericksburg.

Aimee G.

Yelp
Driving up to the farm it looked beautiful because of all the flowers. Once we drove up we were not greeted by any employee, which was not appealing. Most, if not all wineries we had visited had someone greeting us with a smile and warm welcome. As soon as we walked in it was a bit of a ghost town. Even walking throughout the store area, we weren't greeted. It's a cute place for photos but we ended up not purchasing anything because of the lack of attention they gave their customers. Not sure if we'd go back, BUT did take a cute picture by one of their signs.

Megan Q.

Yelp
Wonderful place to spend a day. I come here as often as possible. Their plants and herbs are top notch. Some are a little pricey but really nice selection. Friendliest staff and bartenders, Bellinis are delicious.

Joleen B.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Wild Seed and we loved it! We started with a wine tasting. The service and the wine was excellent and staff was very friendly. We then browsed the gardens where we observed butterflies and then browsed the beautiful gift shop. Wild Seed is a beautiful venue with plenty for everyone to enjoy!

Emily W.

Yelp
Day date to Wildseed Farms Vineyards. Fun fact, my mother-in-law has been ordering their seeds for years, and we discovered that the farm was in the Hill country and perfect for a Saturday day date. The grounds are beautiful, and we heard that we have to come in the spring during the poppy and bluebonnet blooms. The wine tasting room was upbeat, had live music, and a very knowledgeable server who was experienced in all things viticulture from Napa. We walked away with a bottle of Alicante Bouchet and we'll be back for more!

Laurie O.

Yelp
This is a beautiful venue! This farm has beautiful gardens to walk and/or view while visiting with friends and family. The wine bar that is located inside has charcuterie boards and a menu of snack like goods. We ordered wine and walked outside in the gardens. The bartender was so helpful and friendly. This venue also has an outdoor garden area to purchase plants and gardening decor. The inside store is similar to many gift shops in Fredericksburg. The bathroom in the front of the gift store needed a bit of help--a deep cleaning would do it good. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Wildseed Farms.

Marcos D.

Yelp
A great place to chill, take in the Butterfly Garden, do cosita shopping, and wine taste the local wines. Relaxing way to spend the afternoon, but get here early on the weekends it starts to fill up with turistas as the day goes on.

Danielle R.

Yelp
Beautiful spot to stop and stretch your legs if you're heading to Fredericksburg or just passing by. They have different flowers blooming during the season so you're bound to catch one of them in full bloom. This time around the poppies were absolutely incredible. We stopped by on a Sunday and there was no charge to walk around the flower fields. It was a little more compact that an I had imagined but that was a good thing since we were running a little behind anyway. Lots of plants for sale and a generous array of pots as well.

Carissa C.

Yelp
Such a fun all-in-one spot! My family and I stopped in on our way out of town and we had a great experience! We initially thought this was only a place which sold plants, but we were quickly proven wrong. We did end up buying a variety of flower seeds, but my mom also purchased several pieces of beautiful clothing as well as some peach preserves. Everything seemed to be affordably priced. We didn't partake in their wine tasting this visit however the staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful. Although the weather was cold and dreary that day, we did walk through their garden. We'll have to come again when the weather warms up!

Alex G.

Yelp
Wildseed Farms might be the CUTEST place I've ever been to!! Me and my fellow bachelorette party ladies stopped here in-between wine tastings initially to kill time but I swear we fell in love with every single item for sale and wished we had had more time to peruse all of the outside wares! The ladies working here were delightful and the merchandise felt fun and unique amidst all of the surrounding wineries (aka the only other businesses on the same street). The next time I'm in Fredericksburg, I WILL be buying tons of things I definitely ~need~

Deb W.

Yelp
We went here for the wine tasting and to catch some bluebonnets in bloom. We were pleasantly surprised, our experience was great! We had Heather as our wine pourer and she was fabulous. And even more importantly the wines tasted great. It's $20 for a flight of preselected wines. They have unique ones with smoke and sweet tobacco and a Wildseed Tempranillo that we really liked. This is also a nursery to buy plants, seeds and then a gift shop as well as a shop with TX food gifts (both with prices that we unfortunately felt we marked high). A lovely way to spend an afternoon!

Joselin R.

Yelp
We visited the Wildseed Farms to do their wine tasting experience. We did their sweet list. They also had a limited menu of food/snacks to eat during the wine tasting. We had their pretzel, while it was on the salty side it was very tasty and fresh. Our server Ginny was amazing, very friendly, kind, attentive and provides fast service. At the end of our visit we all ended up buying a bottle of their homemade Sangria. The wine tasting room was cozy, they had great decorations that tied well with the wine theme as well as live music. I will be visiting this place again!

Laura A.

Yelp
Very friendly employees. Love it here, the gift shop and nursery. Now there's a winery and brewery! The wines I tried were great, I'd definitely come back for a tasting with my hubby.

Dani S.

Yelp
My favorite part of coming to Fredericksburg. The sangrias are amazing and the market is just to die for. Everything is so precious. Beautiful flower shop and grounds.

Evie T.

Yelp
Stopped by wild seed as soon as they opened . Such a cute spot perfect for the any plant lover. Because we came so early we didn't get to do any wine tasting but did spend about 15 minutes looking at the cute shop and admiring the blue bonnets .

Mr R.

Yelp
Flowers were nice, sunflowers needed help. Wine was pretty mediocre. Cool scenery but avoid the wine.

Mimi F.

Yelp
This place is so special- I love to come in the fall to buy seed and check out their blooming flowers.

Nancy H.

Yelp
This place is beautiful! We were here 40 minutes , shopping INSIDE before ever making it to the wildflowers. Great prices! Great affordable wine tasting! We loved it!

Stacy T.

Yelp
When I read that this was the largest wildflower farm in the country, I was not sure what to expect. Wildseed Farms is more than just wildflower fields, though. They are also a plant shop and outdoor store. They have a cute little house that sells collectibles to there is a nice pathway that goes through the farm area so that you can see the different flowers. Apparently, there are varietals planted that will bloom at different times throughout the year, so that there is almost always something blooming. On the day we were there, there were red poppies everywhere, and it was beautiful. We bought a couple pieces of pottery to take home for our own garden, and we had a nice stroll around the walkway. Making a full loop around the walkway takes about 15 minutes, including time to stop for a couple pictures. There are awesome benches to read a book or take in the sights, and sounds. Wildseed Farms is definitely a great addition to a Fredericksburg weekend itinerary.

Robert M.

Yelp
The place advertises they close at 6, however tastings ends at 5. Showed up to do a tasting at 5:10 and got turned away.

Christine L.

Yelp
Big space for lovers of flowers! Family friendly and with now a tasting room and dining options. There is a huge gift shop and of course a whole room f local seeds that would charm any avid Gardner. Butterfly garden is free and fun to see so many happy butterflies. Highly recommended

C C.

Yelp
The grounds were amazing! Lots of great spots for photos. This winery was ready for fall with the various pumpkins for sale! So far best fall winery for pics!
