Yelp
Simply the best. I have only been to Tofino twice and both times, I have gone to Wildside Grill (to the point where I had it two days in a row on my second trip). Their fried oyster burger is a must order item. Paired with their fish 'n' chips and/or their chowder, you will be in seafood heaven.
FRIED OYSTER BURGER ($15): Perfection! There are 2 fried oysters (though there may have been 3 for my first trip) packed inside of a sweet brioche bun, along with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a delicious sauce. Both the oysters and the fries on the side are fried beautifully: crunchy exterior, soft interior, and minimal oil residue. The oysters in particular are so plump and the meat is creamy with just the right amount of that brininess I love so much. Unfortunately, I did find a piece of hair in my fries last time, but by then, I had scarfed down most of my meal and also couldn't be bothered.
FISH 'N' CHIPS (Ling Cod) ($13 for 1 pc or $17 for 2 pcs): The batter for the cod is great and helps the cod to hold up its shape, bite after bite. I think the cod this time may have been a touch overcooked, but it was still flaky and delicious nonetheless. Like the oyster burger, this too is served with fries. There is also the option to add another piece of fish for $6/pc.
CHOWDER ($6 half, $11 full): When I think of chowder, I think of this Boston-style white chowder brimming with chunks of seafood (cod, salmon, and baby shrimp), in addition to bacon, corn, and potatoes. Had it been served hotter, it would've been up there with the fried oyster burger.
Given that Tacofino is on the same lot, there isn't much of a concern with lineups here. If I'll be honest though, I think people should spare themselves the wait and come to Wildside Grill instead: it offers a variety of mouthwatering dishes with fresh, high-quality seafood at a reasonable price. (However, I also don't like lineups, so the current situation works out perfectly for me.) In terms of seating, it may be hard to find a table without people or bird poop, but this is a minor downside to the incredible food here. Two thumbs up!!!
PS: Wildside Grill, please consider opening another location in Victoria and/or Vancouver!
