Had a great weekend doing the coastal foraging course. The event comprised of a mixture of collecting, preparing, cooking and finally eating a wide variety of marine based dishes. Lots of knowledge from Leon, which he shared with the group.

Our recent three-day, two-night survival course at Loch Ailort with Leon from Wildwood Bushcraft was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, Leon's expertise and enthusiasm made the adventure both educational and exhilarating. The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the canoeing. It was physically challenging yet immensely rewarding, allowing us to explore breathtaking landscapes that few get to see. The views were absolutely stunning, and the sense of accomplishment after navigating the waters was unbeatable. Leon’s knowledge of the environment was impressive and added so much depth to the experience. His emphasis on safety was incredibly reassuring, especially when we were trying new and challenging activities like foraging for mussels and other coastal delicacies. His guidance in identifying edible foods during our coastal foraging sessions made the experience both fascinating and practical. Throughout the course, Leon taught us essential survival skills such as setting up tarps and knots, using fire steel to light fires with woodland materials, sourcing and purifying water, and even cooking flatbread over an open fire. Learning to use knives and saws safely was another invaluable lesson, and building a leaf shelter was a great hands-on activity. Fishing on the rocks and setting crab traps added an extra layer of adventure, and cooking the fish we caught over the fire was a satisfying way to end the day. Overall, Leon’s deep eco-knowledge, combined with his focus on safety, ensured that we had a safe, educational, and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Whether it was navigating the waters, foraging for food, or learning essential bushcraft skills, every aspect of the course was well thought out and expertly delivered. We can't recommend this experience highly enough!

What an amazing experience - the canoe foraging excursion was hands down a highlight of our two week trip to the highlands. It was really educational and very enjoyable. Leon is a wonderful host. Would be more than happy to return and do one of his other courses.

My wife spent a lot of time researching bushcraft companies to buy me a voucher for my 40th birthday and choose Wildwood Bushcraft. She was spot on as always. A friend and I booked a private day course with Leon canoeing around Loch Ailort, learning survival skills, what to eat/not to eat, fire by friction, fishing and shelter building. Lunch was hand picked scottish mussels, limpets and seaweed flat bread washed down with nettle tea. Absolutely fantastic and tasty! All this set to the spectacular scenery of Loch Ailort and surrounding mountains. Leon's friendly and patient and has an abundance of knowledge which he imparts throughout the course. I'll definitely be returning for a weekend adventure next time. Thanks Leon Gordon

Together with my partner and dad I took part in the nomadic coastal survival weekend. As intended, we experienced a challenging weekend which helped us to better understand the types of issues one might be dealing with in a survival situation. Leon taught us lots of skills and shared a wealth of knowledge about edible plants and foods that can be foraged around the Scottish coast. I would recommend the course to anyone who has some previous experience of bushcraft and is looking to extend this knowledge in a more challenging environment. Considering the objectives of the course, it would be wrong to describe the experience as 100% enjoyable or fun (be prepared to get wet and cold without the option to dry off before going to bed and reduce your food intake); however, I feel like I gained very valuable skills that would have been difficult to replicate in a less remote area or more comfortable situation. After all, being in such a challenging environment is part of the learning experience. Nonetheless, I made many positive experiences and I particularly enjoyed the pristine environment in which the course took place and the camaraderie between all participants.
