Our recent three-day, two-night survival course at Loch Ailort with Leon from Wildwood Bushcraft was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, Leon's expertise and enthusiasm made the adventure both educational and exhilarating.
The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the canoeing. It was physically challenging yet immensely rewarding, allowing us to explore breathtaking landscapes that few get to see. The views were absolutely stunning, and the sense of accomplishment after navigating the waters was unbeatable.
Leon’s knowledge of the environment was impressive and added so much depth to the experience. His emphasis on safety was incredibly reassuring, especially when we were trying new and challenging activities like foraging for mussels and other coastal delicacies. His guidance in identifying edible foods during our coastal foraging sessions made the experience both fascinating and practical.
Throughout the course, Leon taught us essential survival skills such as setting up tarps and knots, using fire steel to light fires with woodland materials, sourcing and purifying water, and even cooking flatbread over an open fire. Learning to use knives and saws safely was another invaluable lesson, and building a leaf shelter was a great hands-on activity.
Fishing on the rocks and setting crab traps added an extra layer of adventure, and cooking the fish we caught over the fire was a satisfying way to end the day.
Overall, Leon’s deep eco-knowledge, combined with his focus on safety, ensured that we had a safe, educational, and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Whether it was navigating the waters, foraging for food, or learning essential bushcraft skills, every aspect of the course was well thought out and expertly delivered. We can't recommend this experience highly enough!
