I was on the lookout for a great brunch place and this popped up in my search. I tried to go on the Saturday before Labour Day, but they were unexpectedly closed due to a mechanical issue. Oh well. I was able to try their brunch last Sunday instead.
At 12 pm, we were quoted about 1 hour for a table of 2. We opted to wait and walked in the Glebe area while patiently waiting for a text. Surprisingly, our table was ready after about 30 minutes, so we rushed back.
The restaurant does not really have air con. After walking around in the hot sun, it felt pretty stuffy and warm in the restaurant. We were seated near the back by the kitchen, which made things even warmer. I did notice my clothes had a distinct food smell afterwards, which could be accounted for by the seating.
Service was excellent. We were brought our water and drinks quickly, and the menu was explained to us thoroughly. The waiter explained where they got most of their food, how their bacon was made, and some favourites on the menu. Throughout our meal, we were checked on and water was always filled.
House-made lemonade: made with honey and visible lemon zest, this was very refreshing and reasonably priced at $4. Perfect for a hot day.
Eggs in purgatory: for just under $17, you get a cast iron pan filled with a spicy tomato sauce, which is heated up and two eggs are poached in it. Then it's topped with lots of Parmesan shavings and arugula, and homies and toast go on the side. This was very filling, yet felt lighter than an eggs Benedict, and left me satisfied. It was just the perfect amount of spice, too.
Overall, I had a great experience here and would come back for sure. The ventilation could use some work, but it does not deter me from coming back. I'd highly recommend putting your name down early and keeping an eye on your phone as people tend to cancel their waitlist spot. I'm interested in trying the avocado eggs and any of their eggs benedicts next time!
