I booked a Double Room for 6 nights on the hotel side of the property to put the following in context. Potential guests should be aware that these rooms are located at the top of a set of narrow stairs, so you'll need to be comfortable carrying your luggage up them. Given the historic nature of the building, it's not designed to accommodate individuals with mobility issues.
With that out of the way, this was a wonderful place to make my base while I explored The Hague and its surroundings. There is a tram stop directly outside the front door, making it incredibly convenient to reach most of the main tourist areas in just 1-2 stops, or a pleasant 10-15 minute walk.
The staff were very friendly and more than willing to offer suggestions and tips when they could. For example, when I asked about local restaurants, one staff member, Zoe, provided a handwritten list of their favorites. They were also helpful in pointing me towards a laundromat that offered a convenient drop-off and pickup wash-and-fold service for €18. They were also upfront when they felt they couldn't give any good advice, which I appreciated.
Although I didn't make use of it, there is a private courtyard on the property where you could safely lock up a bike if you chose to rent one for multiple days.
The room I booked (The Loft) was located at the back of the property, and was fairly quiet. You can occasionally feel the passing of trams, but I didn't find it bothersome. While I couldn’t be certain, noise from other rooms seemed very minimal.
The room was serviced by housekeeping every other day, and if it matters to you, the shampoo/bath soap was an all-in-one product which I found perfectly serviceable.
Being the Loft Room, it was right against the roof, and as a result, the area above the sink has a limited amount of head room. I'm around 185cm tall, and I found it easy to adjust to. The benefit is that there are some cool wooden beams exposed and made part of the decor.
The shower provided plenty of hot water and great water pressure. It was also of a generous size for a converted historic property. The toilet was contained in its own separate room with a door.
The bed was very comfortable and I slept very well in it. If you are visiting in the fall, like I did, and you are sensitive to the cold, I would note that being an old building, the room was cool even with the radiator set to full. I’m sure requesting an extra blanket would easily resolve this.
Finally, for those who need to do a bit of work on their laptop, the room didn’t have a desk suitable for this. However, the café/bar/workspace that sits between the hotel and hostel areas is a good place to sit down with your laptop and enjoy a coffee. It was a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring, and seems to be frequented by both guests and locals. Please note that this space is only accessible from the street.
Overall, I would rate this very highly as a 3-star property, offering excellent value and exceeding my expectations with its charming character and comfortable amenities. I would happily stay here again.
