Lovely wildlife area full of birding spots, flowers, and tranquil hiking trails into the forest and along the bay! Wonderful interpretation at the start as well

Such a beautiful spot! Wooden walkway nature trail with sculptures. So glad I didn't miss it!

Google
Great walking pathes and wildlife opportunities. Double check closures for hunting season. All trails had note worthy elevation gain and loss, uneven terrain and varying trail quality. All trails were well marked.

Beautiful boardwalk with amazing views throughout. The boardwalk was shorter than I expected but still was nice and amongst the boardwalk was a small pond and if you look closely you can see the fish swim. The trail was unfortunately closed due to it being vandalized and the art sculpture stolen. The trail did look steep and not like a beginner trail from what I could see. Great place to visit and hangout. They had one picnic table and the bathrooms were also closed. Also, there is a sign right before the boardwalk that says no dogs.

Google
Hike not suitable for the unsteady, however, there is a nice short boardwalk suitable for all. Trail has steep climb at the beginning. Wet, muddy, and slick. Come prepared to get muddy. Trail needs some maintenance and is a little overgrown. Beautiful scenery.

Tons of birds and other wildlife. The cutthroat trail is easily accessible and a great spot to stretch your legs. The upper loop has some beautiful views but might be a bit much for beginners or young kids. Bathrooms have been closed for over a year.I wouldn't spend all day here, but it's worth a look if you're in the area.

Google
Such a beautiful place to visit. Great area to hike with the whole family! Come with a good pair of hiking boots if you go up the hill. Otherwise you can stroll around the wetlands. We spotted a beautiful Heron on our last visit! There is a geocache there too. As well as a Pokémon Go gym for the kids!

Yelp
Somehow we've never noticed Teal Slough as we've travelled through. Luckily the hubby noticed info online about some old growth beauties here so we stopped by recently to see for ourselves. The out & back trail itself is fairly uneventful, but take those short off-shoots when the posted sign with the tree symbol makes an appearance. There are definitely some larger lovelies up there that make a brief trek worth every step. If you're a tree lover like myself I highly recommend Teal Slough, another cool spot within the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.

Yelp
I think I reviewed this but I'll do it again- massive multi sided park that encompasses great swaths of the Long Beach peninsula. This whole area is a treat to visit But don't miss hitting any of the 3 main sections of the refugee: from the Ledbetter point beach side, to the Willapa bay island, to the art walk with the great forest loop trail this refuge is a Don't miss list! Yelp
A great blend of art and nature. The grounds are well maintained. The trail to the top can be really muddy. The boardwalk is easily accessible for young and old. Makes for a great spot to picnic. Definitely a hidden gem in Washington

Yelp
Arrived in lower parking lot at 10 am on June 19, 2021. The gate to the headquarters and access to art trail and cutthroat trail was closed. Please put hours on your website. Crazy to be closed on weekends!

Yelp
Sadly they only have the short trail open due to trail damage. I bet the trail is great once it is open. The art trail is nice. But it's only a 10 minute walk.

Yelp
Apparently this exisits just as overflo parking for the kayakers across the street. The bathrooms were closed. The walk is a joke..but is ADA compliant except its not wide enough to pass. The only wildlife were gnats

Yelp
I found a diamond in the rough on Route 101 near Mile Marker 24! On my way to Long Beach I stopped at the Friends of Willapa Refuge in the Willapa National Refuge Park. Here is what I found: - Sculpture Park - Beutifully maintained foot bridges and trails - Benches for lunch or relaxing - Poetry written on bridges, stones, and wood carvings. It was truly unexpected and those are the best discoveries. I fell in love with this beautiful little sanctuary. Be sure to stop by the next time you are traveling to Long Beach. It is 100% worth it.

Yelp
This truly is a magical climb! Incredible natural forest views with fun art and wildlife fact pedestals scattered throughout. Bring your camera and a walking stick if you have one but don''t bring your dog. Dogs aren't allowed and really, as much as I love dogs, this isn't the right place for them. The path is narrow and steep and I actually don't think most dogs would enjoy it.

Yelp
I am a bit hesitant to post this review as I do not want to see this beautiful spot where we find respite to be flooded with obnoxious tourists and in-bred buffoons. You know the ones...the "Obese-ersons" with their three out of control children serenading the landscape with their ineffective parental squawking, littering the landscape with candy wrappers, and polluting the air by smoking. Have SUV will travel (co-funded by my taxes that are paying for their leech-like existence via food stamps and public aid---have another Ding Dong & Diet Coke my dear...they are practically freeeeeeeee!! Oh and here is a glucometre, test strips, and Metformin for the whole gang!!!). Yes, evolution goes both ways, but can it just go far away??!! Anyway, I digress... (Kathy H. was just more diplomatic about making the same point...wink) This is a beautiful and inspired spot. The thought, creativity, and love that is behind this little paradise tucked away from the world is beyond description via words really. The docents and volunteers are unsung heroes in my book. We tend to take for granted all that goes on "behind the scenery". Go to their website and make a modest donation. In the world of dilapidated buildings, clear cutting ugliness, and social decay, places like this need to be more of the rule than the exception. You just have to come and enjoy the crisp air, nature's symphony, and artistic expression. Well maintained with easy access. Take lots of photos & leave only footprints... Our next adventure is to cross over to Long Island.... its silence & beauty calls to us...

Yelp
CUTTHROAT CLIMB & Art Trail at Refuge Headquarters. Art trail is a short curving boardwalk through the tideland marsh with unique sculptures. This trail brings you to the head of "Cutthroat Climb". Cutthroat is a magical winding 2/3 mile loop of alternating wooded path and steep wood stairs. This peaceful, fun and convenient loop is only steps away from the 101 yet, delivers a quick deep wood experience. Gorgeous ferns, giant trees, and moss provide unlimited photo opportunities. Be ready for elevation changes and rainforest-ish vibes!!!

Yelp
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL place!! If you love the outdoors this walk will take your breath away. (NOTE: take proper hiking shoes, I wore sandles not my brightest idea)

Michael R.

Yelp
If there is a such thing as heaven on earth - this is it! Breathtaking views, peaceful and protected environment, and full of birds and wild life. It is a must see if you are relaxing and quiet. If you have an RV and are obnoxiously loud - please do not come here with you. Also, if you and your XXXL wearing woman haven't been outside in the past year and a half, skip this place. There are snakes with red eyes and fangs that smell Doritoes and Slim Jims from 1/2 mile away and bike at cankles. Stay out. For the rest of you - sit back with a coffee and prepare to be amazed. I honestly teared up at the natural beauty of this place.

Yelp
I love the peaceful serenity during the non-tourist months.

Yelp
There are lizards here. Live. Lizards. You can eat them and people probably won't notice. Best meal ever 10/10

Yelp
unbelievable. Was pointed out to us by Hotel Staff (good for you Heidis!). We bought a camera at Radi oShack in Long Beach because we couldnt believe this place existed. If you take photographs, love wildlife, or are an avid bird watcher THEN GET GOING!!!!!!!
