Behind the Books at Denver International Airport's Speakeasy

"This airport outpost recreates a bookstore-speakeasy experience near Terminal A gate 38, where guests enter through a book-fronted fake door into a cozy bar with views of aircraft and a “take one, leave one” shelf of books. Operated by Mission Yogurt, it closely follows the Highlands original in both hospitality and menu, offering deviled eggs, frog legs, bone marrow and an acclaimed burger with crispy fries dressed with aioli and a malt vinegar gastrique. Breakfast and brunch choices run from Hawaiian bread French toast topped with coconut, pineapple and hot honey to a range of breakfast sandwiches (vegan to bodega-style chopped cheese), plus Colorado staples like a green chili–smothered burrito and cotija-topped chilaquiles. Cocktails (and breakfast booze) are a highlight — guests can order classics like Bloody Marys or Espresso Martinis, or indulge in award-winning specialty drinks such as the Blackberry Sage Smash (made with Woody Creek Rye) and the Great White Buffalo (Zubrowska Bison Grass Vodka, Licor 43, grapefruit, lemon, Chinese five spice) — while nonalcoholic “temperance” riffs like the My Bitter Clementine (Earl Grey, clementine shrub, Giffard Aperitif, lemon) offer creative alcohol-free options. Proprietor Sean Kenyon’s third-generation bartending pedigree and a focus on consoling, attentive service anchor the airport experience." - Cynthia Barnes

Google
A speakeasy in an airport??? Was told to try it out and it didn’t disappoint. Great drinks and food. Besides people with luggage, I forgot I was at the airport. About 15 min wait to get in. Well worth it.

Google
Original review below that gave 5 stars I was here last month and it was great. Tried going today and told by an uninterested host that it is a 40 minute wait to get in. This is an airport. Seriously? --- We saw this speakeasy being built out when going through DEN several months ago. Was excited to see it open this trip and try it. We waited 5 minutes to get seated, but well worth it. The drink and food quality is the same as you would expect at a non-airport restaurant. This was the best breakfast burrito I ever had. Solid cocktails without the airport extra cost. This is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the airport. ALSO, the books out front is a take one leave one library.

Google
Cool entrance (same as the main), but service was pretty slow even though it was half empty (and they kept people waiting even with lots of open spots). The interior doesn’t have a lot of the flair of the original. Aside from the novelty of the entrance, there’s plenty of other spots in the airport for a decent drink

I got the simple breakfast and two cocktails. (I had a long wait this morning) Breakfast was good. And the cocktails were amazing. Service was top tier and the whole place felt cozy. This was a very fun treat.

Google
Cute speakeasy in terminal A! We split the burger and deviled eggs and both were excellent! The malt flavor on the vinegar was delicious. The deviled eggs had bacon and green chili on top that added a little something extra. Service was friendly and attentive and helpful when suggesting cocktails from the bar. My only recommendation would be to start stocking Diet Coke for travelers who don’t want to drink!

Great food and service. I got to the airport a little early to avoid rush hour traffic so I had a bit of time before my flight. Zach was very attentive, funny and humble. I’ll be back next time I’m at the airport.

Google
Cool little speakeasy in the A terminal of the Denver airport. Our flight was delayed for several hours so we decided to sit down for dinner. We chose Williams & Graham because the menu is the same as the downtown location and has several vegetarian options, but the craft cocktails were a huge plus! As the host takes your name, they also take your boarding time to ensure you don’t miss you flight, which was a nice touch I never thought about. Our server, I think his name was James, was very knowledgeable and gave insightful information and recommendations for everything we ordered. I got the Mac ‘n’ cheese with chicken add-in and it was some of the best I’ve had. My girlfriend got the burger with a veggie patty substitution, which she enjoyed and especially liked the combination of the caramelized onions and Port Salut cheese. To drink, I had the blackberry sage smash and the swol juice and she had the highland lass, pour Lenore, and espresso martini. All of the drinks were very good and it was refreshing seeing unique drink options. The atmosphere was very cozy and fun, with a real speakeasy vibe. At 10 o’clock the lights briefly went out to replicate the “thrill” of police showing up to an old school speakeasy. Next time we’re looking for a meal during our layover in Denver, we’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
This is a speakeasy nestled into the airport. The interior feels very much authentic to the speakeasy vibe. Our bartender Eric was skilled and knowledgeable. If you love unique cocktails, try Becky With The Good Hair. We had a burger and the chicken pesto. Both were very well cooked. Some reviews mention the fries, which are a touch sweet, but the malt flavor was spot on for me. If you are killing time at the airport, this is the best spot in terminal A.

Yelp
Please add a Yelp for the airport location as I had an incredible experience and want to highlight your wonderful staff. Firstly, I thought the restaurant was a bookstore, and it practically is, with a hidden door that opens the beautiful bar and restaurant. Here's the kicker tho, I sat down and asked for a glass of wine and Diet Coke. Bartender said no Diet Coke I said no problem. 2 min later one appears in front of me citing "I went down the terminal to get you some Diet Coke!" So thoughtful and sweet, meant a lot to me. Then I had the goat cheese salad and god damn it was good. I'm picky too, a hard salad critic; it was GOOOD. $13 for a glass of amazing Pinot too. Thanks for a great experience at DIA, this California girl will be back to hopefully review the airport Yelp for Williams & Graham

Yelp
A friend had told me about this establishment, and luckily I had a trip planned a month later and was able to check it out. When I arrived, I was told there'd be a 45-minute wait--fortunately, that turned into just 10 minutes. Everyone I encountered was friendly and accommodating. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which was tasty, though a bit on the pricey side--but hey, it's the airport, so that's expected. I also tried the French onion soup, but I wasn't a fan. It had some sort of protein in it that tasted off and overly salty. I brought it to their attention, and while they did offer to replace it, the menu was so limited that there wasn't anything else I wanted. Surprisingly, they didn't comp it or offer anything to make up for it, which was disappointing. It's located next to gate A38 at DIA. As for the ambiance--it's marketed as a speakeasy, so I expected a 1920s Prohibition vibe. Instead, the staff was dressed in Hawaiian shirts. Ha! *** One plus: they do offer a military discount, which is always appreciated.

Yelp
The food here was amazing! Got the bone marrow and goat cheese salad and both were delicious. The drinks were okay; nothing to write home about but I'd come back solely for the food. A little on the pricey end but if you have some time to kill before your next flight, this is the way to go! They also limit the number of people inside; unlike other restaurants in the airport so it's definitely a more relaxing enjoyable setting

Yelp
Avoid William & Graham Bar - Denver Airport During a layover at Denver Airport, I stopped into William & Graham Bar. I was seated at a table for roughly two hours, ordered two cocktails in total, and had already shown my ID to my original server. Before my flight, I ordered my last drink and moved to the bar to charge my phone and finish it. The bartender asked for my ID again. I explained that I had already been served and that my ID had been checked by the waitress who had just taken my order. Instead of verifying with her, he refused to give me the drink and placed it further down the bar. I retrieved the drink, set it in front of me without taking a sip, and it was immediately taken away again. I decided to leave rather than stay in an uncomfortable situation. While I was in line elsewhere to get food, the manager came out into the terminal, loudly accusing me of being "an irate traveler" and "causing a scene"--even though I had done nothing disruptive. Multiple bystanders were visibly uncomfortable with his behavior and pointed out that he was the one yelling. As his aggression escalated, I began recording for my own safety. He then physically took my phone from me and tried to turn it away from his direction. This level of hostility, lack of professionalism, and complete disregard for customer service is unacceptable--especially in a busy airport environment. I did not steal or consume the withheld drink, yet I was publicly confronted, yelled at, and physically handled by staff. This was an unnecessary, unprovoked incident that left me shocked. If you're traveling through Denver Airport, I strongly recommend avoiding William & Graham Bar. Their handling of customers is not only unprofessional but, in my case, crossed the line into outright harassment.

Yelp
Hell yes, best find in an airport in a while. Outpost of a popular downtown cocktail spot, great vibe hidden behind some book shelves. Zina, our server, was fantastic and made a mean cocktail. Burger and breakfast sandwich were killer too

Yelp
Sad they got rid of the frog legs they were AMAZING..still tons of reasons to make this your stop before your flight it's worth the wait! And big shout out to Eric at the bar who will make sure your drink is perfect every time

Yelp
Very disappointed in this spot today. Been in numerous times as I fly every week. Told I had to wait 5 mins, not a big deal, upon check in. Wait the 5 mins, manager comes out and says there is no space for 1. No "come back in 10min" or "one hour". My buddy who was inside sends me the picture of the half empty bar. Plenty of other options. Adios W+G.

Yelp
Super long line to get inside at 4:30pm on a Tuesday. Disappointed. I was unable to wait so I didn't get to try anything.

Yelp
The food here was great! We had the green chili gnocchi, fried Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese. Our server Erik was amazing as well. Cocktails were great too. Very reasonably priced for airport food.

Yelp
BARTENDER PASSION IS THE BOMB!!! This location is awesome and the service is amazing, definitely worth getting to the airport early for

Yelp
Service. Check in process lacks organization. Checked in and waited. Three groups that came after were let in before. When brought to persons attention they brought us in and gave us a stand up bar. Really. Then put drink order in. Waited few minutes then put food order in. Food came out still no drink. Finally half way into food drink came. Waitress was very pleasant and apologized.

Yelp
Service was fantastic, the atmosphere is fun and makes you feel secluded from any part of the airport. From the management team, to the bartenders, servers, and hosts, and even the kitchen, they were all very professional and attentive. If you are looking for a great drink, fantastic food, and exceptional customer service from Jason, Megan, Rob, and their staff, this is your place to go!
