This is a rather unique hotel (though they call it a “resort”!). We stumbled upon it by coincidence and decided to book mainly because of the price—which was reasonable. Unfortunately, the photos online are outdated and misleading. The rooms were mediocre, the furniture old, and the carpet had a noticeable smell. Now for the positives: the front desk staff were absolutely fantastic—warm, helpful, and genuinely accommodating. They made us feel like old friends, which was a highlight of our stay. My husband also loved the location: tucked away in the middle of a forest, yet just minutes from several attractions. The setting was serene, quiet, and peaceful. If only the hotel would remodel, update the furniture, and refresh the exterior—it could truly thrive given the location and the amazing staff. 👉 For now, I recommend this hotel for a short 2–3 night stay if you simply need a place to sleep. But if they ever renovate, I’m confident it could become a truly great experience for every guest👍

This place has so much potential, I’m excited to see what it will be in a few years. We really enjoyed our stay but we are not picky travelers either. The pool and splash pad were great, our daughter loved them, and the water was warm. The staff was amazing, very informative and accommodating. They have some work being done with AC ducks hanging in the halls, the rooms could use an update and the beds were a bit smaller than what I’m used to in most hotels, I think they were a full which we missed in the booking options. When we turned on a few of the lights they flickered The bfast is a nice option, but only had meat one day on the buffet and limited options. The mini golf course looked like it could use a good cleaning and one hole was underwater but again it’s a free option with the hotel and I doubt most kids would have been bothered by it. It looks like there are making the investment to really make this a great place. I thought for the price we paid, it included two tickets into Colonial Williamsburg and the location being so close it was well worth it and I would stay again. The eggo waffles they had for breakfast were GREAT!

My family and I have been going here for several years. Every summer we book a stay and go to Busch Gardens and water country USA. It is nostalgic, which is why we rebook, in addition to the good location. The outside pools are lovely. It’s nice that they have other children’s activities like the outdoor mini golf, and ping-pong tables. However, this year they had removed the indoor arcade, and what was most disturbing was the breakfast area. It was filthy. I did not once see anyone cleaning off tables or vacuuming. There were crumbs and dirt everywhere on the carpet and tables. The second morning there was no hot breakfast and inside the container of hard boiled eggs there was a large hair. There was a long line to nuke bread and bagels because there was no scrambled/hard eggs or breakfast meat. My husband complained to the front desk about how gross it was inside the restaurant area and the fact that there was no warm breakfast served, and the girl at the front desk simply said that she was already aware of the problem and that the hotel was working with a third-party company that never told them when they would be serving warm breakfast and that she didn’t have anyone that she could raise the complaint to. She did not even take his name down or send anyone to clean. Lastly, if you intend to use the pullout couch as a bed for your kids, they are terrible. The mattress is super thin, and the corner of ours was broken so when my teenager sat on it, he fell through. Instead of the hassle of changing rooms, they just pulled the mattress out and slept on the floor. Very sad that this will probably be our last stay here.

I enjoyed the stay here. The staff at the front desk and breakfast were all nice and helpful. Room was spacious with bedroom with a king bed overlooking the pool from the third floor with a TV, in between was a closet, sink, kitchen and bathroom and the entrance had a living room with a TV. Only minus was elevator was on one side of the building. Not near my room. It would have been nice to have elevators on both ends of the building.

Google
The Williamsburg Woodland Hotel was very nice but not suitable for elderly or handicap. The hotel only has two sets of elevators and the lay out is very confusing. The front desk receptionist was very helpful and nice. She gave us a map but we were still confused as to where our room was located. It is a lot of walking. The ice machines were out of order throughout the hotel. The room was very nice and clean. Our room was cleaned each day during our stay. The pool area was nice but the splash pad pool water was cloudy in color. The rate was very reasonable. We tried to get breakfast but there was not much to choose from so we ended up going out to eat. I would stay here again but I need to remind them that we are disabled and will need handicap rooms.

We stay at the Woodlands every time we visit Colonial Williamsburg and surrounding historical sites. It is convenient to the Welcome Center and bus service as well as with our stay, our tickets for Colonial Williamsburg are included. The pool area is clean and enjoyable for both adults and children. The staffs is helpful and courteous and genuinely are happy to be there. We travel to Williamsburg several times a year and will not stay anywhere else. A true value for the price.

Google
Couldn't ask for a better value and location for this hotel. Rooms were clean, beds were firm (and we loved that), and the king suite was great if you have kids and need a door between you and the kids! Breakfast was a typical continental breakfast. My nut allergy kiddo LOVED that they had nut free waffles, and muffins. It was a real treat for them! We loved the 5 min drive to Colonial Williamsburg. The mini golf was super fun late at night and gave us something to do. Great hotel. Service was great. We had an issue with a toilet and while we were impatient, maintenance was there within an hour. This hotel is great! Not dated, clean and maintained. Even with all the tour busses, and groups, it is a quiet hotel and we didn't hear anything at night or our neighbors.

I visited with our 10 yr old granddaughter. ||Our stay was perfect from check-in to checkout. ||Check-in was easy and quick. All of the staff was very friendly. The pool was great, especially in the evenings after a day of exploring during the hottest week of the year. It’s bigger than other hotels we have stayed at and is open until 10 pm. ||The room was clean and comfortable. I took a room spray (I always do no matter where we stay) in case of the musty smell that was noted in other reviews but this was not an issue in our room. ||The ac was fine but I like a colder room so I called the front desk and asked for a box fan. Staff bought it to our room within 5 minutes. ||We did not try the breakfast other than getting some juice. We have our favorite restaurants in the area we like to go to for breakfast so I’m not sure how it was but it was always busy. ||You can’t beat the location. It’s so convenient being right beside the visitor center and shuttles. One of the parking lots is right there beside the entrance. ||You also get a 25% discount at the visitor center for your tickets. There was a $130 deposit held on my card at checking. No big deal and lower than most places. Price for 4 days was very reasonable and affordable. || Overall our stay was perfect with no issues at all. ||I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We stayed at the Woodlands Hotel and Suites in Williamsburg, VA, and unfortunately, it was a letdown from the start. Upon check-in, we were told we needed to put a card on file--which was expected--but then were informed of a $130 hold being placed on it. This was never mentioned during booking, and our room had already been paid in full. Once we got to our room (after needing our key cards reactivated three separate times), we discovered the AC was barely working. I reported it to the front desk and was told to "wait until night" to see if it improved. It didn't. The pull-out couch was incredibly uncomfortable--thin padding with metal bars digging into your back all night. We also had to call maintenance because the toilet wouldn't flush. Turns out, it needed to be rebuilt. WiFi was another issue. It only worked if you were standing right by the door. Anywhere else in the room? Zero signal. While the staff were friendly and the pool was nice, the splash pad area was shut down for the first day and a half of our stay. Everything around the resort felt like it was "off-season" despite being the middle of summer. The putt-putt course was completely unmanaged, several buildings on the property were visibly falling apart, and the onsite restaurant was closed. Breakfast was underwhelming and overcrowded. It seemed like anyone could just walk in and eat--even people not staying at the hotel--which added to the chaos. The website also advertised golf, but there was zero mention or sign of it during our entire stay. For the price we paid and the additional resort fees, we expected much more. Unless those fees actually go toward providing a fun and well-maintained experience for families, I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
My school and I went on a trip and had the displeasure of staying here. Beds are uncomfortable, pillows suck, elevators are hot and slow, and the doors and heavy. The breakfast is okay, I got to steal orange juice to fill my water bottle though. The outside of the hotel is nice, and they have games like putt putt and corn hole, and there are two pools. Overall it is not worth the stay, if you're visiting Williamsburg find somewhere else to stay if you're staying for more than two days.

Yelp
Really more like 2.5 stars. Very unnecessarily difficult check in process. We booked two rooms for two nights and two rooms for very elderly people for one night. They had to wait til after 5:00 for their rooms, so we put them in our room until then, but they really wanted to nap. But then they had to come downstairs to show their IDs and that required massive effort. Husband complained to manager who nicely brought bottles of root beer to them. Room OK, not great. Bathroom out of date. One of their toilets quit flushing. Old people felt unsafe in bathroom. Breakfast OK. No butter, only margarine. Gross. Coffee very weak. Wi-Fi was HORRIBLE. All in all I would be more tolerant of this if it weren't so expensive, as in $260 per night. New York prices! Definitely not worth that price.

Yelp
The lobby is beautiful. Front desk staff is friendly. Rooms appear dated but I can see where the theme is more of a colonial theme. The layout of this hotel is strange. Had to walk down two long hallways to get to the elevator. Rooms were clean. Beds are AWFUL. Had trouble sleeping. WiFi here is nonexistent and cell phone service is spotty at best. Breakfast is mediocre - processed breakfast sandwiches, cereal, processed waffles (that you can toast), breads, yogurt. No cream cheese for bagels. The only good things I'll say about breakfast is they have fresh cut fruit - melon and strawberries as well as gluten free items. Seating in the breakfast area can be difficult to come across, thankfully there's additional seating in the lobby and outside in the courtyard. During our stay our toilet stopped refilling and the card reader on our door died, however the front desk were able to assist us.

Yelp
The staff was wonderful. Super knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The amenity I requested in advance was placed in the room as promised. However...the air conditioning in the common areas was horrific; a staff member told me that it had been broken for five years which is absolutely ridiculous. Thank goodness for window units in the rooms. The rooms...while they were very clean they were super out of date. It honestly looked like the 80s in there, and the carpet was really frayed in some areas. The morning breakfast was...OK. I guess since it was included I cannot complain too much, but it wasn't the hot breakfast I had the last time I visited. Again, the breakfast staff were super kind and helpful. And the internet...oh for the love. There was ZERO wifi. Like...none. I don't even know why you bothered to put the network and password on our checkin paperwork. And since clearly we were in a dead zone we couldn't use data either. A little stressful if you are there for work and/or trying to use an app to plan the day. The location also could not have been better as we just walked to Colonial Williamsburg and it took about ten minutes. So overall....great staff and good location. Please fix the other stuff!

Jacquie S.

Yelp
Horribly run down: wallpaper peeling. giant AC tubing and units in the hallway. wifi was not working at all, front staff just said: "well it should be". Used to bring kids for the water play area and pool. It is now horribly run down and sad. Colonial Williamsburg should be embarrassed this place is associated with their name.

Yelp
From moment of check in to check out everything went perfectly. Staff friendly and helpful. King room was nice with living room area mini kitchenette area and bedroom separate. Grounds beautiful as well with mini golf ... and pool great for family. Close to everything as well

Yelp
Really nice place to stay for the price. Everyone was so nice, especially Kameron at the front desk-- very kind and accommodating and informative. Very good first impression of the hotel when you have someone like him welcoming you. Breakfast was nice but wish they had had real butter.

Yelp
We were told the rooms were completely renovated, but when we checked in, the entire hotel was TIRED! The carpets were frayed in the lobby, there was a roof leaking into a big black trash can on the first floor for our entire stay, peeling wallpaper-you name it. The beds were spring mattresses and were saggy and the bedding was tired and stained. The breakfast was a disorganized mess and we felt like we should've stayed in the Hampton Inn. I will never stay here again!

Yelp
There was what looked to be black mold all over above the shower. My car got dinged pretty bad in the parking lot, there are no cameras, had to double park so it didn't happen again. Someone kept trying to get in our room the first 2 nights, they were knocking and jiggling the door. We reported it to the front desk and gave a description of the person. There are no cameras in the hallway. There is no ATT service in the area, which isn't the fault the hotel, however, you should have Wi-Fi that is adequate so that we could use Wi-Fi calling. The connection kept dropping and was not even usable in the bedroom and I was using the WiFi address with the password that was provided by the front desk. When checking in, the room wasn't ready on time, so the front desk said they would call us, only to find out that we were on the open Wi-Fi that is really terrible and Wi-Fi calling wouldn't even work, so there was not way to know if our room was ready unless we kept checking. It was ready about 30 minutes after it should have been, which isn't terrible. The hotel staff were very pleasant and overall, the room seemed to be clean. This place needs major renovations, felt like I was staying at a budget hotel and getting ripped off on the cost.

Yelp
We stayed here because it was the recommended hotel for a wedding. The bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed in the room. The continental breakfast was delicious. Many options of cereal, muffins, breakfast bars, juices and milks. They had hot breakfast sandwiches and very fresh fruit (strawberries, watermelon, pineapple) that was great. The hotel itself (lobby, hallways) seemed like it hadn't been renovated in years, but I guess if you want to feel like you're in colonial times, it's perfect! Haha! It's also very big and may not be best for someone who cannot walk far distances. It also was a little pricey for what we got. We went to colonial Williamsburg and it was a very short walk to get there and tickets were included with our stay, so perfect place to stay if that's what you're in town for!

Erin F.

Yelp
It took two hours to get checked in upon arrival, even though I arrived at 4pm (their stated check-in time). They stated they would call when my room was ready, but they did not. Staff stated that the wait was because they were "at capacity". AC in the room works, but not well. The AC in the hotel hallways/lobby is non-existent. Same with the conference center. Several people in the conference walked out for cold compresses and/or ice at various points over the three days I stayed. At one point, we opened the conference center exterior doors to let the 85 degree heat/humidity cool the room down. I wound up leaving early the final day of the conference because I could not stand the heat any longer, so I lost out on education that I paid for. WiFi does not work, which makes things difficult when you're on a work trip. Cell phone reception is also spotty & two phones on two different networks were often in SOS mode in the room. One morning I did not have any hot water. Upon discussion with other conference goers, it appears that this was the case for a lot of us. The bathrooms in the conference center were out of service on day one, so people were forced back to the hotel to use the restroom. There was one operable handicap restroom, but you can imagine the line for that with around 250 conference attendees. As someone who needed to use the handicap restroom vs. walking back to the hotel, this just one more frustration Hotel staff was pleasant & things were fairly clean. However, I would not personally recommend or visit this establishment again.

Jodi W.

Yelp
WiFi is nonexistent, my room was not cleaned, checked two different days. When I asked for clean sheets since my youngest had an accident, it took 2 hours to get them and they brought me toothbrushes instead of sheets. The ice machines didn't work. The washers & dryers were on the fritz. The vent in the bathroom didn't work & the tub did not plug so we could get baths. Also the elevators closed the doors super fast & we were constantly getting them closed on part of our party

Yelp
I booked 3 nights for a little getaway with my friend who is terminally ill. The hallways in this building are ridiculously hot! There aren't microwaves in the rooms. The ice maker on our floor didn't work. Staff were practically standing over guests while they ate the "enhanced" continental breakfast. I don't know what was supposed to be enhanced about it! It was all prepackaged food to microwave or toast, even the waffles. THEN, the last day of our stay, they locked us out of our room by disabling the room keys! By the time we got new keys (after arguing with the desk staff), we were both literally DRIPPING with sweat! Oh, and by the way, I couldn't post a review on their site. You can only read their reviews, which I'm sure they only post the good ones that are left on Yelp, or they make them up!

Kevin S.

Yelp
Everyone was very pleasant. The beds were very comfy although they bedding was skimpy. The onsite restaurant is geared more to children but there is a little bar there, if you're so inclined. And the hostess was very nice. If you're not spatially gifted, initially orienting yourself may be a bit of a challenge but is basically a gridiron football configured property. The rooms were clean but everything is dated. For example, you don't have the option of using Netflix or Prime on the televisions. Also the decor is more mid 20th century and not for design purposes.

Yelp
Pros: Very clean room. Welcoming, friendly and helpful front desk staff. Convenient location to visitor's center and easy walk to the colonial village. Cons: Breakfast. If you have previously stayed at this hotel and experienced the amazing breakfast, lower your expectations. We stayed here a few years ago and breakfast was amazing. So much so that we skipped lunch for a couple of the days we were here. Now, you can enjoy a bunch of packaged foods, including gas station burritos. No waffle maker or bacon or sausage or eggs. Just gross, packaged gas station food. What a bummer. It almost seems like they changed their model for COVID but word hasn't gotten to them that that ship has sailed.

Yelp
This was an incredibly disappointing stay. For context, I stayed at the hotel for three nights to attend a conference; I did not use the Visitor's Center or visit the local sites. To start, the conference I attended had about 250 participants, and half of us must have been in the hotel lobby simultaneously waiting to check-in. The hotel would only allow people to check in at 4:00. The front desk staff was not equipped to manage the number of people, and I felt terrible for the families waiting in the same line. The air conditioner was not working in the lobby or the hotel hallways, so it was extremely hot and musty for my stay. The room's air conditioner worked, but not well. The rooms are dated but spacious. The wifi was weak, so there was only one area of the room where I could work. Cell service was limited to the window side of my room (calls had to be made standing right next to the window, or they would drop). The t.v. remote did not work. I called the front desk, and they sent the housekeeping person who tried to swap it out for another remote. Ultimately, they had to get the maintenance manager. The whole thing took several hours, but it did get resolved. On the second day of my stay, the water heater broke, and there was no hot water for a shower until late that evening. The hotel did try to add extra fees as I was checking out--daily resort fees, as they called them. Oddly, the website says that is included in the price. The receptionist told me she would be taking those charges off, but my credit card does have a hold for three charges noted as resort fees totaling $65. I plan to wait to see if the charges fall off before calling back to the hotel. There is one restaurant on site, but it has only three items: chicken wings, chicken tenders, and cheese/pepperoni pizza. I would have tried it, but it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. GrubHub to the rescue! The Conference Center had a strong mildew smell and was extremely hot for the conference. At one point, the downstairs bathrooms stopped working, so attendees had to walk back to their rooms (about a block while it was raining) or wait in an extremely long line for a one-stall bathroom. The ceiling was leaking water on attendees on the first floor, and some correlated the leaks to when the one working bathroom (upstairs) was flushed, but I'm not sure if that is accurate. Overall, this is a large complex with great potential. It's obvious that it's not been loved by those who own it for a long time. This is not the resort hotel the website promotes. The mature trees are beautiful, but the parking lots are riddled with potholes, and the sun-bleached signage is difficult to read/follow. Families with small children may enjoy the pool and water play area, which is the only place I could see as a shiny spot at this hotel.

Yelp
Beds in our room, a 2nd story 2 double bed, was located down 3 long hallways with room numbers beginning with 5300 through 5400. It seems there are about 100 to300 rooms per floor. Have no idea why they all start with 5,000. No sign to lobby from 1st floor elevator directing you to lobby. Both beds were very much in need of replacing. We are elderly and did not appreciate having to walk to so far. I was only able to find a rather firmer place to sleep that was about 3 inches wide near the right middle . Mattresses should have been replaced 5 years ago. Breakfast is a rotation of *handhelds" some fruit pastries, cereal. They call it a Continental breakfast. I've had Continental on the European continent. They offer much more protein choices. Will NOT stay here again. And it is barely within walking distance of Williamsburg and not if you are elderly. Directions to Guest check in signs seems to lead you in a circle. Only USB outlets are on bedside clock

Yelp
I chose this hotel for our family vacay to Williamsburg this year! Perfect for families small and large. The Buffett style breakfast is a crowd pleaser even though it's only open 7am-1030am daily. If you want peace and quiet go before 830am. It tends to get rather loud afterwards. Check in went smoothly when we arrived and Jaycurous (may be misspelling) his name smile was very pleasant and welcoming. We was in our rooms wishing 15 minutes. There is a complimentary shuttle that takes you to nearby shops, Water Country and Busch Gardens. The schedule is given after check in. We utilized the gym which was neat and clean! My baby girl loved the outside pool. I did too. It was very warm- seemed to never get cold. It has a colonial feel and is a bit outdated but still depicts the style. I was pleased with our stay and would stay again.

Yelp
I did not enjoy my stay and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Pro's: -Very friendly staff all around. Truly kind housekeeping and front desk! -Nice amenities if you have children. Cons: -Dingy rooms with musty smell -Only a bargain if you have children. If it's just you and your spouse, go somewhere else. -Horrible WiFi and cell service. Couldn't make a call out at all until I left the premises. My husband was barely able to make a Wi-Fi call. -Not enough seating at breakfast. Too many people for the amount of tables. -Breakfast was non existent. No matter what time we got there the food was gone. There already wasn't much to choose from. Boiled eggs, cold cereal, muffins. I think I saw a toaster, so I'll give them bread. -You are forced to make a decision every morning about where to go to eat because the chances of even getting that breakfast is rare. It definitely felt like the hunger games...literally. -No king size beds. Apparently they were all "taken" when we asked, but I haven't been able to find anyone that had one of these mythical creations... and believe me, I asked. However, All the people I talked to were in doubles. - Ok, let me preface this con with; I actually love children. I think they are wonderful blessings. I seriously mean that. However, they are everywhere. They are crawling out of every nook and cranny so keep that in mind if you don't have any. If you are thinking of making this some kind of romantic getaway, think again. They throw every obstacle your way to deter that thinking. My advice to you is to come here post procreation.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel a few years ago, making it to check-in under the wire just before midnight. It was a reasonable price, reasonable room size, huge bathroom, and very clean. The breakfast was buffet, different every morning, and for a hotel breakfast quite delicious. The hotel is very clean. The best part though is it's convenient to Colonial Williamsburg, and if you purchase something there you can have it sent back to your room. It was a great feature to be able to wander around without being bogged down by souvenirs!

Yelp
First time staying at the Williamsburg Woodlands with my family and keep in mind this is a very tardy review. So improvements may have taken place. I made reservations by calling in late June and the staff on the phone was excellent! The price was right too at around $125 and includes breakfast with other amenities like pool, mini golf and coordinated games for children with staff. The stay was booked for three nights. Upon arrival I parked in the free surface lot at the rear. If you have luggage to unload pull around to the front. The lobby was cozy with fireplace, dark wood and exposed beams fitting of a lodge theme. The lobby was clean and had fresh flowers as a centerpiece on a table. There are multiple areas with staff to assist a check-in. A super woman got my family checked in and gave the run down of amenities. One of the best perks on property is the pool, unfortunately we never made it with a busy scheduling of tour. I passed it and it's a huge outdoor pool with kids play area. The biggest advantage to the property is location to Colonial Williamsburg. It's probably 10-15 minutes by foot. They also offer shuttle service to CW and other local attractions like Busch Gardens. The elevator located more interior was clean as was the hall corridors. The double room was adequate, but extremely dated and worn. A hole was spotted in a chair which i reported and was replaced. Make no mistake however the room was clean, no complaints in that department. Everything in the bathroom functioned and we had proper supplies of soap and towels. The breakfast buffet the next day was a bit chaotic with a full crowd at the hotel and no seats. There were signs directing guest to an overflow room across the sidewalk at the Huzzah Eatery. We did this and it was much easier to maneuver. The breakfast had basics of fruit, cereal and a waffle maker. Drinks of coffee, tea, milk and juice. The coffee was out, but staff added more as I was in line. The food gets an ok, its free and it didn't make me sick. I call that a family bargain. Checkout was smooth and friendly. We did have a personal item left behind. We called the hotel same day and were told if located we would get a call back. It took over a week, but a call from the staff informed me they located a stuff animal of my daughters. It was her favorite and a big deal. I'm not sure why it took a week, but we were grateful. A 3.5, rounding down due to the hotel was in such dire need of renovations. With free parking, free breakfast and the excellent location I would return.

Yelp
Williamsburg Woodlands is a good place to stay when you are visiting Colonial Williamsburg, primarily because of its close location to the Visitors Center, the shuttle bus stop, and the friendliness & hepfulness of the Woodlands' employees. Our room was about a quarter of a mile down the hall and take a left and then a right and then left or right, I don't remember now, to get to our room. Well, it did seem that way. Our room was a few doors down from an exit that was near the parking area in the back of the building. This was convient for our unload and loading. Our bed was firm and comfortable with plenty of pillows. Our room was also clean. We had to have one light bulb replace and maintenance had to work on both our TVs and their remotes. These problems were quickly taken care of. Our room was very quiet and we never were disturbed in our room by other guests. Staying at the Woodlands in the middle of February may have had something to do with that, since we saw few guests. Breakfast was an enhanced continental with mostly packaged food. There were plastic cups filled with cantaloup, honeydew melons, and strawberries. There was also a basket of apples, oranges, and bananas. They had warm packaged breakfast biscuits with Canadian bacon, egg, and cheese. They also had hard boiled eggs and packaged cereal, as well as instant oatmeal, milk, apple juice, and orange juice. There was a variety of breads, bagels, and muffins. Of course they also had coffee and tea. I had no problem with their breakfast selection, but I'm not a breakfast person. The room price was reasonable and their employees were always friendly.

Yelp
Far below expectations. We reserved an accessible room, but on arrival were told none was available. The curtains in the room were disintegrating, a pole lamp wasn't working and had presumably been that way for so long that it had been moved far from an outlet. Speaking of outlets, the room had far too few for a 21st century hotel - more like a mid-20th century inn that had not been updated since the day it opened. The room was reserved for 3 adults, but on arrival had only 2 bath towels and 1 face cloth. Most of the ice makers hadn't worked in so long that the drains underneath the unworkable ice dispensers showed the calcified water stains from last time they did work. Front desk staff made no attempt to have concerns taken care of.

Yelp
It gets four stars for cleanliness and that's a big deal to me. Nice front desk staff at check in. The decor in the room was dated and the walls were thin. I loved the proximity to the Colonial district.

Yelp
It's a great place to stay for a reasonable price. The parking is easy. The stairwells are clean and wide, carpeted, lots of windows. The wood beamed lobby is welcoming. Breakfast is fresh. Especially nice cut fruit and berries!

Yelp
This was by far my worst experience with any of the group of Williamsburg hotels. We had multiple problems with keys, the bathroom was not clean when arrived and when a storm hit, the electricity and the generator went out. We have no power with no expectation as to when it will be restored.

Yelp
If you're wondering how all of the cries of "dated" could be negative in a Colonial themed hotel option, read on. The stay isn't an updated Colonial experience, because it's not a Colonial experience at all. Yes, it's walking distance to the Visitor's Center, and a short shuttle to CW proper, but you can get cheaper accommodations that are more luxe and the same distance from CW. The only Colonial part of this stay is that you're supporting Colonial Williamsburg and its employees, and that there are Colonial themed things hanging on the walls. That's literally it. For someone like me with a passion for CW, that's enough; for someone with a family coming in from a distance and looking for amenities during a non-summer season, I'd personally recommend elsewhere. If CW it must be, of the Colonial Williamsburg spots, this is the "bargain" option, and while I've stayed in the Lodge for years, I've never stayed here before now. Think Holiday Inn, but CW brand. The lobby is faux rustic, with gas fireplaces and ornamental but structurally purposeless wood beams. Every staff member I encountered here was friendly and cheerful, frequently greeting me before I spoke, from check-in to check-out, including housekeeping and breakfast staff. Room notes: My room was simply appointed, with two double beds, one mini-fridge, and a keurig and tv (no microwave as another reviewer said there was). The good: It was clean enough, and even cute. There are Colonial Williamsburg Spa Lavender Lemongrass bath & body products in the rooms. My bed was comfortable, with an appropriate range of different thicknesses of pillows so you can find your perfect one. The bad: The tub didn't drain properly, so by the end of my shower I was standing in about 2" of warm water. The toilet paper is single ply. The beverage vending machine on my hall was out of order. You can't charge a phone from the bed without unplugging something (buh-bye alarm clock, my phone does that!). The room's heat was off in a chilly early March - no fan, no a/c, no heat had been running since the last guest, whenever that was. Breakfast (continental) was fine, with bacon and eggs and cereal and fruit, waffles, juices, bagels and breads, yogurts, etc.

Yelp
We like this place. Less expensive than Great Wolf Lodge. Our kids are older now and we love Colonial Wmsburg. Love the walking access. We like the King suite. Gives us a king bed and a pullout sofa for our kids. They complained about the springs though. We will put their mattress on the floor tonight and hope that helps! ***At&t phone signal is horrible nearly everywhere here. We have had issues last year (2013) and this year (2014). The hotel let us use the lobby phone for a phone call I needed to make & couldn't with my cellphone. That way it wouldn't charge my room for the call. I give this 5 stars because we have been here at least 3 or 4 times over the years and we will be back. This place works for our family and our needs. Is it a 5 star hotel? No. But it feels homey and the staff is so nice and we love the extras they do for holidays -- Easter, Christmas... Easter here is quite something. It was raining horribly and a lady came dressed as an old fashioned woman with a bunny nose. And she twisted balloons for the kids and brought her sweet pet bunny -- Honey Bunny and the kids could pet it. And there was a fife and drum corps to entertain at breakfast. Overall, it was a fun Easter!

Yelp
Location close to the visitors center and shuttle was great. The walls are super thin so had to deal with barking dogs and crying/screaming children at all hours. Found two hairpins on the floor and hair on the shower walls (GROSS). The breakfast was subpar, but normal for mid-rate hotel breakfasts.

Yelp
Perfect for families! We found the price to be great for a suite that our dogs could join us in. Rooms were spacious and clean. The pool and kids water park were so much fun. Only improvement would be on breakfast area. It is small and crowded. Just not enough room for families with little ones. Food was good though and included hot waffle makers and fruit.

Yelp
Stayed here for onsite EIG training. The staff at the Woodlands is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well-maintained. My complaint, if you could call it a complaints was very minor...the TV in the bedroom was not working but it worked very well after the maintenance tech came upstairs. He arrived pretty quickly and took care of the issue! Also, there was only one on-site restaurant which wasn't open every day but the food was delicious and the restaurant nice and clean! To me these are things easily worked around. I already decided to stay at the Woodlands again on my next visit to Williamsburg.

Yelp
This one of the worst hotels that I stayed at what I found was totally unacceptable on the pullout bed couch when I took out the pillows there was chips and food and a sock underneath I do not recommend coming here and the breakfast has a very bad selection only cold hard boiled eggs waffles and cereal

Yelp
Great and easy stay. The breakfasts were great and the noise level was quiet. The front desk was helpful; Coffee was super friendly and made our trip even better, I'd say she was the highlight of our stay at the lodge. Mattresses were better than Holiday Inn's which says a lot. Would definitely stay again!

Yelp
This hotel is huge. Plus side is you can walk to Old Colonial from the hotel and they offer a free shuttle. The walk is only about 15 minutes but the trail has many things to see and so simple you can't get lost. The shuttle is great too as it stops at multiple locations and runs until 10pm which allows you plenty of time to look around. I only give 4 stars because even though everything is great. The walls are thin in the hotel. There is a door in our hotel room that connects to another room if you have a larger family but the door is so thin that I can hear all the conversations from the person next door and loud and clear. It did not go so well with me since the neighbors woke up godly early and woke me up but hearing them speak.

Yelp
Booked this place after reading reviews on *SQUAK* tripadvisor. And it seemed like the place to be when visiting Colonial Williamsburg. We came on a REALLY hot July weekend and check in was very easy. We went with another family and they were awesome to give us adjoining rooms. The property is sprawling so it was a hike to get to our room but we didn't mind. The rooms were clean but they were dated and the air conditioner was one of those that BLASTED you cold then shut off to heat you up fast and just as you rolled into more of your sweat you were BLASTED cold again. So there were a lot of covers being thrown on and off in all of this. Plus there were no blankets or comforters (that I can remember though I never use them unless they're duvet covers for cleanliness reasons...) so it was just sheets for us. The beds were awful. My husband and I were pretty much filling in our bed taco. When he'd move I'd bounce up and vice versa. We fell into each other and sweat then shifted around to cool off then came back together when we were freezing and then tried to just find flat space to sleep. LOL it was something. So after sweating it up in Williamsburg the one day we decided we'd take advantage of the pool and it was miserable. The pool was like soup. Soup full of sweaty people. I know that its hot so the pool would naturally be warm but this was like hot tub water in a pool and that told me that there couldn't be water circulating or recycled or what not. I mean I go to Mexico where its hot as anything and never feel like this in a pool. So we sweat in the pool if you can believe that and then got out of the pool to sweat some more, then back to our room to freeze/sweat. It just wasn't comfortable. Now the good things. Their breakfast buffet is pretty decent for a free breakfast. They have hot and cold options and plenty of things to drink. You can definitely get some good fuel for your day ahead here. The location of this place is perfect too you can walk to the visitors center and they have shuttles to everywhere you need to go in Colonial Williamsburg. Also parking on site is plentiful. There is a restaurant there but I didn't eat there. It never seemed crowded or open for that matter when I walked by so never a time to check it out but it is there. Overall I wouldn't stay again I was exhausted when I left and that's not how you are supposed to feel after a weekend away. Maybe it was the weather, but my sleep is too important to me to test that again...

Yelp
First, this hotel is the perfect launching point for visits to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. The hotel is steps away from the Visitor Center and the complimentary shuttle service. Second, any stay of four days or greater at the Woodlands (or any of the other CW hotels) gets you free passes for your party to CW. On the other side of the coin, the hotel is pretty outdated. There is no hotel restaurant and the snack bar has odd hours and is very bare bones. A lot of large groups traveling together use this hotel so there can be a lot of teenagers and kids running around at any given time; just something to consider if peace and quiet is among the things you are looking to get out of a stay in CW. Having said that, if you are bringing the kids and don't want to feel like you are on pins-and-needles the whole time, the Woodlands is a solid choice.

Yelp
This is a perfectly satisfactory place to stay when your intention is to spend a couple of days exploring Colonial Williamsburg. Probably even better when you don't stay in the off season (we were there in February). They have a large out door pool and amazing looking splash pad (closed for the winter). I would give it four stars if our bed didn't have a slight sag to it. I would return again though.

Yelp
Looking at the pictures of this place I was a little weary, but the high ratings from the people on here made me give it a go. I am so glad that I booked my stay here. It is close to Colonial Williamsburg with a free shuttle service and Busch Gardens. The staff was amazing as well as all of the staff at Colonial Williamsburg. Don't let the photos of this place scare you away. My only gripe is that the wallpaper HAS GOT TO GO. While trying to watch TV I would get dizzy.

Yelp
50% off rooms with membership as their walk in special! 2nd time staying here! Everything is convenient to get to when you stay at the Woodlands. Go to the visitor center check out the gift shop and book store. Then hop on a complimentary shuttle to see Colonial Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg right now has all the hustle and bustle of Colonial times along with holiday decorations throughout. The houses have a different wreath on each door. All the shops in Merchant Square are on a bus stop along the way too. Woodlands offers games and entertainment for your family such as minature golf and volleyball. There is also a pool and playground. The lodge also has continental breakfast. Each room has a Keurig, microwave and refrigerator. The rooms are spacious and comfortable as well as the bathroom. Everyone is also beyond friendly. No matter who you pass by in regards to staff always greeted with a hello and a smile. This how is the most comfortable place I have ever stayed at!

Yelp
Spent 4 nights here on vacation with my family in June. Nice sized hotel rooms. Beds only full sized which are small in today's market. Beds also terribly uncomfortable. Need to be replaced. Pool outside and very nice. New kids water park being added. Front desk very helpful, especially Marwin. Excellent young man. Kids activities in evenings including magic shows and pool parties. Breakfast included. It was ok. Not the nicest and very crowded. Too many kids touching the food. Hotel is right next door to visitor's center. You can walk or ride bus right into Colonial Williamsburg.

Yelp
Clean hotel in a great location walking distance to the visitors center to catch a shuttle down to the historic building. However, the "continental" breakfast was really just cereal and hard boiled eggs. The vending machines located around the facility didn't work either. Great location but take more pride in your other "amenities"

Yelp
It is a very nice to stay with family when you have vacation in Williamsburg. Water Country USA and Bush Gardens is only 10 minutes away. The Williamsburg history visitor center is on the side of this hotel. The staffs are extremely friendly and helpful. Many choices of breakfast. It's free. We are very satisfied.

Yelp
Close to Visitor center but no real dining and no taxis in sight. Room is basic as it comes and there is no food after 930pm. Complimentary breakfast was fine. Extremely difficult to get to and from town without a car. Ubers have increased a bit. The pool looks fun for kids. Walkable path to town...It can get hot and buggy along the way. Staff were nice but I did have a work package go missing one year during my conference.

Yelp
This was a poor experience from the start. I reserved the room 3 months in advance, and fortunately saved the confirmation email. They "lost" my reservation, and somehow had me as a no-show for a reservation the day before, even though mine stated I was checking in the current day. They ended up running my credit card THREE times, and to top it off, tried to charge me $125 more than my email showed. This check in process took over an hour after 12 hours in the car. What I had hoped would be a relaxing night was a nightmare, with no consolation from Darren the manager, who I sat on hold for long enough to contact two other hotels for availability. The room was ok, with a sticky leather couch, and a desk chair at the computer station that was a poor, uncomfortable choice for a desk chair. Bring your own snacks, because their vending machines are hit-or-miss, and they do not run them themselves. The breakfast was average, not wonderful, not terrible. Fairly standard continental. Dry scrambled eggs and bacon were the only cooked choices on day 1, more appealing eggs and sausage on the second day, with toast and waffle stations strewn about the room. Would I return? Never. I'll try the Days Inn before I waste my money here again.

Yelp
Great location, lovely lobby, terrible beds. Do not get a room with an adjoining room unless you are using both rooms. You will hear everything your neighbor says or does in the room. Wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
I stayed here in early September 2018 and I was very happy with my stay. The rooms were clean, the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. The staff was phenomenal and I couldn't ask for anything better from a staff at a hotel. I will use this hotel over and over again for years to come. I love the grounds of the hotel because it has fun activites to do, horseshoes, shuffle board, ping pong etc. The grounds are clean and I also love that the hotel has a clean pool and is connected to Colonial Williamsburg visitor center for a quick trip to CW for the day or evening. There is also a shuttle pick up for Busch Gardens at the hotel parking lot area near the pool.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because this is one of the nicest AFFORDABLE family hotels in the Colonial Williamsburg area...an easygoing, lodge type atmosphere with friendly, accommodating staff, shuttle bus service which runs from 8:30AM until 10Pm every 10-15 minutes to Historic Williamsburg, great complimentary breakfasts and spacious, clean rooms (with a fridge) serviced by housekeeping every day. Easy, no hassle parking. Pool, fitness room, WiFi. Hints: Book online, do the Historic Triangle Package and entry to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown will be free. There are other different web specials as well. When dining out, especially with kids...go to the Market Square stop. Technically, not part of the "historic" area but it's still on the shuttle bus route. You'll find a little 50's type of diner style restaurant called Retro which has inexpensive, good eats (hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and dinner specials). Older kids will appreciate Williamsburg, the "littles" will enjoy Jamestown more...
