Wilma Wunder in Mainz has a great vibe - bright, cozy, directly at the Market Square and perfect for a casual meal or brunch with friends. The food was fresh and nicely done and the drinks were spot-on. Service can get a bit slow when it is busy but everyone is friendly and the atmosphere makes up for it. Solid spot overall.

I ordered the Klassiker Flammkuchen and a tea — both were delicious! The wait was quite long, but understandable since we came on a Saturday. The servers were very friendly and made the experience enjoyable overall.

We were seated quickly. Food was served pretty fast. Waiter keeps on checking on us ensuring everything is ok. Overall, cosy place with good food.

the service is delightful! we had a bridal shower dinner there and they helped us a lot! the place was also sooo beautiful. the meals for lunch-dinner are okay. i believe this place is more suited for brunches so i would love to come back to try that!

The view from the terrace is beautiful, it's a great start to the experience you get here. The staff is friendly and hard working, the food is delicious and the beer is divine. I will be back again for brunch when I visit the wonderful country next. My only "complaint" would be the wifi keeps dropping

Good food and servers were friendly. Great view too. Lots of smoking outside.

Great place to get German cuisine but in a little more refined and creative style! As I’m not German, I can’t really speak how that German dish I had really fits into German taste buds, but both for me, my parents and friends from abroad, the food was really great! Huge appreciation for vegan variants of German dishes!! Finally I could taste something German while being on vegan diet 😍 Big plus for really great coordination of servers and handling our reservation, while the restaurant was totally full. Maybe tiny minus for the place being really loud, the tables are very close to each other, we had little trouble chatting, but nothing not manageable :) Loved it and will return!

Got scammed at this restaurant. I ordered just one main course and one drink, namely Lachs-Spinat-Nudeln (15,90€) and Blaubeer-Basilikum-Limo (6,80€). When I asked for the bill, I was told to pay 29,50€ and I didn’t pay too much attention so I just paid with my card. However I did ask for the receipt. When I got back to the hotel and checked my receipt again, I realised the waitress only gave me my credit card payment receipt, NOT the receipt with my orders. It was missing a corner too. Then I remember this restaurant has online menus so I just looked up and checked, the sum of my two orders would ONLY be 22,70€. I DID NOT offer to tip! I hope this was a mistake but to all the tourists, please be extra careful! The food was delicious though.

Yelp
Wilma Wunder is a great German restaurant. It's a German-chain restaurant as they have several across the country. This is the main one in Mainz as they do have a second location. Anyway, the service was great and selection of food was awesome. I would go here again. They have a good ambiance in this centrally located restaurant. They also have outdoor seating, but since it was cold, I decided to stay upstairs where it was heated.

Yelp
Our friend took us here during the week and good thing we did... we hadnt made reservations for the weekend and it was fully booked! The place was great and it sits in the heart of Mainz overlooking a grand church and what seems to be the main plaza. So, pretty scenic. The food was all great and the coffee and lattes were really really great! Coffee here is very different than in the states, in a really good way. The poached eggs, pancakes, fruit, was all delicious! The water was also very friendly and tried his best accommodating us with English, considering we don't speak German. Unless you visit during the week, please make reservations a week or 2 in advanced!

Yelp
I came across this spot while I was wandering through the Mainz marketplace. It has a super cute vibe and a great view of the cathedral and market. The waiter here was very nice and she made a good effort to understand what I was saying even though I didn't speak German and she didn't speak English. The presentation of the salad I ordered (burrata salad/Genusskugel) was great, however I though the dressing was a little bland. I think it needs a little more acidity and maybe citrus. The bread was also not particularly exciting and needed a bit more crunch. The drink I ordered was super delicious and refreshing (it was sparkling water with ginger, elderflower, and lime/Wasser mit Geschmack). The lunch was moderate priced to slightly expensive, coming to $18. Overall, I recommend the location and the employees. My dish was a little bland.

Yelp
Great new addition looking at the Mainzer Dom. The menu is just right with many items from breakfast to salads to main courses. The interior spaces are very well done and staff is quite friendly and informative. Will surely be back.

Yelp
Nice place to watch people and have a beer. I was just walking around the city and of course all roads seem to always point to the Dom. I was lucky and scored a front seat outside. I didn't eat anything. The waitress was friendly, she seemed like 16 years old. The rest of my comments here are about the EU outdoor dining experience in general. The seating in these outdoor spaces require you to be a vulture and attack any opening as the staff does not seat anyone. It's every man for himself. You have to eyeball every table and person to calculate which is most likely to be leaving next and go stand by them. You don't stare them down, but you kind of hover around signaling them and all the other vultures to stay away. Once seated it is always a crap shoot as to a staff person actually coming by and asking if you want anything. There is a subtle art to the service game that we American's don't understand. We smile, they keep walking; we nod, they keep walking; eventually we start raising our hand and then waiving them. This seems to be looked down upon for being rude for being in a rush for waiting only 30 minutes staring at the empty table. Frankly, if you think you will drink two beers, you should order two to start with. Then paying the bill is another round of smiling, nodding, and waiving. They don't expect a tip and you would think once they heard our voices, they would realize they were about to get a tip (if they acted like you mattered), but most don't seem to put two and two together. Maybe this is a good thing. Nobody is special and money is to survive and not accumulate. I am always impressed how our EU friends still care about their community centers. As I sit in these squares looking at old churches I think about how the people must have gathered in these squares for socializing and trade for over 1,000 years. America has lost its roots. I miss the small shops, bakeries, delicatessens (I just realized the word comes from Germany and France meaning delicious things to eat). There is no lack of great things to eat and drink in Germany.

Yelp
This restaurant is still new in the city of Mainz. Inside you can still see cables hanging from the ceiling. However the interior looks nice besides of that. The staff is friendly but very insecure with dealing with customers. They should be more confident with customers. For example they got our orders wrong, served us starters seperatily so we could not start together ( more than 5 minutes ! ) and one spilled drinks of an other party over our table. Although these incidents were handled in a friendly manner, it is not acceptable that so many incidents happend on a single visit. The food was served and decorated in a nice manner. However the taste and quality of the food is nothing special. Average to good, but definatly nothing more. In total the restaurant has potential, however the decission on the staff should be reconsidered. I will give this place one more try in a few months.
