Wilpattu National Park

Amazing National Park in Sri Lanka where we did a full day safari with Mirando, a naturalist guide that knew everything about the park and the animals living in it, and Desa who drove us through the park. Going on safari with an expert guide enriched our experience a lot and we would really recommend going with a guide! Many thanks to Mirando and Desa for the beautiful safari day! We hope we can come back to keep learning about the wildlife of Wilpattu.

This is the most fun thing I've had the opportunity of doing on my trip to Sri Lanka so far! Wilpattu National Park boasts leopards, sloth bears, some elephants, peacocks, shepherd eagles, crocodilians, monkeys, multiple species of kingfishers, and so much more! We were able to see the bulk of these animals starting at 6AM until 3PM.

Unfortunately we saw no elephants or leopards but we saw 2 Sloth bears and loads of birds, eagles, deer, several species. Crocodile s, buffaloes. We went in with Wilpattu Lakshan, a great trip had! Highly recommend.. if you have a bad back I would say no, it's a rocky ride on the back of the trucks!

A safari in Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka is an absolute must-do! To increase your chances of spotting wildlife, it's important to have a knowledgeable guide. I wouldn’t recommend a 3-hour or half-day safari—opt for a full-day experience instead. It gives you the best opportunity to see a wider range of animals and truly enjoy the adventure.

I recently visited Wilpattu National Park, and it was an unforgettable experience! The park is filled with stunning natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. During our safari, we were lucky enough to see three leopards, crocodiles, and plenty of local birds, along with deer and peacocks. The wildlife sightings made the trip truly special. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable, sharing interesting facts about the animals and the park’s ecosystem. It was a perfect mix of adventure and nature — a must-visit destination for anyone who loves wildlife and the outdoors!

A wonderful experience. Not as many animals as I would have expected but we did get to see 2 leopards, one up close which was great. It's a long way in traffic depending where you come from.

Huge national park with a original nature and lots of animals. Due to the heavy rain falls there where in elefants. But there where a lot of deer, birds, some monkeys, buffalos and a bear.

We were at the beginning of January, after the cyclone. Majority of the roads in the park were already open, but some still closed. It is not a park for watching elephants, we did not see any, maybe it was due to the previous heavy rains, I don’t know. We were lucky and saw two leopards, both very close, one for a very long time. But, the majority of people didn’t see any, maybe only 5 jeeps saw them. It is a very big park, not so crowded as others, the drivers respected the roads, there were no bad situations towards the animals. So you can be lucky and see leopards, a bear, a lot of birds, buffalo, crocodiles, but you can spend also 10 h driving and not see a lot. So it depends what you are expecting. Also it is Sri Lanka way of organization. Jeeps are loud, sometimes there are a few in line, a lot of them have empty seats, so due to that more jeeps drive around the park. The government should just regulate it.
