A FOODIE’S FIND OF A DELIGHTFUL BBQ TAKEAWAY🤩🤩🤩. It’s a small, very plain and unabashed neighborhood BBQ SERVICE COUNTER. Grilling of Pork Ribs and Halved Chicken is done in front of the business. It’s apparently a small family business for decades. This their “new” location since 2019. The BBQ flavor is distinctively Southern, the founder originally came from Louisiana. —- Both ribs and chicken have a smoky aroma, and cooked to an almost charred appearance (“blackened”), very much reminiscent of NOLA and Louisiana country cooking. 😎😎😎 The appearance and aroma are a reflection of the in-house dry rub. Most importantly, the sauce is also made in-house… there’s a whiff of cayenne pepper 🤩🤩🤩. The veggie sides (green beans, collard / mustard greens and coleslaw) are Southern traditional. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The BBQ guy apparently is a nephew the original founder. The service counter offers some seats for customers to wait. It has a view to the prep kitchen. The hours of business is narrow noon to 4 pm, 3-4 days a week. They run out quickly so go in early 👏👏👏

I asked the very friendly staff: if I'm only going to eat here once, what should I get? Their answer was the ribs with greens and yams (pictured) and their hot BBQ sauce. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint! The meat wasn't falling off the bone but it was succulent and delicious. Not to mention that it was being cooked right outside on the BBQ. The smell was fantastic. My only wish was they did dine-in but the food was still warm after the 15 minute walk back.

Excellent ribs. Well better than I can really describe here. Perfectly grilled ribs topped with tasty sauce. Definitely will be a regular customer here. Reasonable prices and friendly service.

All in all I thought the ribs were great and I would definitely come back. I guess you could say they were a tad chewy, but the flavor is all there and they are very meaty. Some of the best pork ribs i’ve had in the area. I think they should work on a better system in regards to taking orders as I noticed a lot of people waiting around, but they just re-opened so give ‘em a chance. I’ve never been to the old location, but I would most definitely come back here. Support your local businesses!

As I approached the restaurant, my nose was drawn to the smell of the ribs and chicken being smoked. I quickly noticed a line of north sider’s happy to see the business reopened and waiting to satisfy their taste buds as well. Even with the opening day excitement, I was pleased and enjoyed some amazing chicken. Unfortunately for me, my kids devoured the ribs but the sauce was unbelievably good. Along with the savory greens. Oh I’m glad I asked for a side of sauce, whoa! My follow up visit was just as satisfying and my wait time was smoother the second go round. On another note, I thought some of the prices were relatively low for a few of the dishes. Get there before somebody notices!

Saw the reopening reviews , decided to wait a week or two for them to get the kinks out. Let me tell you -best idea ever!!! Not sure what everyone was talking about, but this is the SAME Wilson’s. Took the whole family, I had greens, potato salad and ribs🔥🔥🔥. Kids had chicken and various sides , super saucy/super cheap for a family of 4. Highly recommend! Love how you can see them use wood fire grill to cook your food the old fashion way! Will be back!

The best tasting ribs and sauce I have ever had! Greens and mac n cheese were fantastic too. Service was fast, friendly and enjoyed conversations with other patrons. I'm gonna be back real soon, especially when the brisket is ready.

Google
Ribs were excellent, the chicken was AMAZING, and the prices were reasonable. The only thing we didn't love was the potato salad. As many other reviewers have noted, it is completely flavorless. Please just add some salt at the very least!! 🙏🏻

Yelp
A family-owned business with a great tradition of serving the southern style foods that I crave. George Wilson Jr owned the Wilson's BBQ on N. Taylor in the War Streets. This new business is owned by his cousin, Ira Wilson. It's the same great food, and it's slow cooked traditional BBQ. George Wilson Sr brought his family recipes from Arkansas. The sides are all wonderful, this is authentic BBQ that you will love. Your choice of sauce is spicy or mild, and I find that a mix is the heat level l like best.

Yelp
Chicken was black/burnt and dry Ribs were burnt and tough Mac and cheese noodles were mushy Greens were too salty Green beans were ok Potato salad was ok

Yelp
Food was so so BBQ Sauce over powering and taste like nothing. To thick all they needed to do was give it proper love. The Macaroni and Cheese was basic with serious pinch of cheese and butter disgusting no love was placed in it. It reminds me. Could of been a generic box Mac and cheese prepared by someone who can't cook worth a damn. I would say a 9 year old child nothing but laziness sorry but true. Actually the greens had style and taste Mustard and Collard mixture do whatever you need to make your coins. First Visit on 10/11/2024. I would say a 2 in preparation of meat was BBQ probably that's it. I will not be returning wii look elsewhere.

Yelp
Wilson's is back...up here at 2615 Perrysville Ave 12pm to 8pm Tuesday thru Saturday. Some of the best BBQ in the Burgh, Baby! Stop sleeping! They got Ribs, Brisket/Brisket sandwiches, Half/Whole chicken, and all of the side slapp. Come make Wilson's Great Again and support Black Owned Business!

Yelp
Holy Sh#+.... Best ribs in town. Restaurant is super clean compared to any other BBQ in town. Almost had my 10 yr old crying they so good.

Yelp
I was very excited when I heard that Wilson's was reopening. Unfortunately, this is not Wilson's, and not just because George Jr is nowhere to be found. The magic at Wilson's was slow, indirect cooking using their huge brick oven. This restaurant is direct-cooking the ribs on a grill in the street in front of the restaurant, which results in inadequate and uneven dissolving of the collagen in the ribs. They have entirely too much bite, with the typical gumminess of ribs that are cooked too quickly. The chicken was ok. You can get ok chicken anywhere. They said that they're using the family sauce recipe, but I'm skeptical. Either the Georges had the recipe wrong for all these years, or these new people are getting it wrong, but the sauce is not the same. The service was slow and unfriendly. That wouldn't have been a problem if the food had been good. Overall, it was a really disappointing meal. The old Wilson's was something special. This one is just another lackluster Pittsburgh rib joint.

Yelp
Today was my first time going. I really liked it. My favorite item so far is the green beans they usually grill outside but it was raining so I walked in the place and it just seems like a normal black family cooking out to me. Im glad that I can at least trust them and I'm happy they are within walking distance. Everything was great

Yelp
Wilson Bar-B-Q back in 90's was my go to but now I was kinda disappointed first thing no greens or potato salad so ordered green beans they where from can so you very salty not good now the bbq the chicken was tender it's was okay but no grill flavored or smoked and the ribs no bbq flavor or smoked flavor

Yelp
LOVED IT!! Food was good. service was impeccable. Everyone was warm and welcoming ( no attitudes like some places). The chicken was well done, ( I like my eggs and wings fried hard). The chicken was perfect. Wasn't overpriced like some places. Beautiful day, sat at an outside table and enjoyed my food.

Yelp
I was super excited to have a bbq place on the Northside. I was disappointed I got the chicken which was still raw. I had to cook it on the toaster oven when I got home. The mild sauce has a vInegar taste not good.unless they make adjustments I will not be going back.
