"When visiting this dramatic, narrow beach in the wealthy La Jolla enclave, take time to admire—and photograph—its single surf shack. One of San Diego’s most important surf-culture icons, the wooden palapa is actually a designated historic landmark, built in the 1940s by soldiers and surfers who served in World War II and reconstructed as recently as 2016. Windansea is also known for its pounding, experts-only surf break; you should attempt it only if you’re experienced, but it’s just as fun to watch from atop the beach’s smooth sandstone rocks. For some peace and quiet, sunbathe in one of this stretch’s secluded pockets."

Lovely area with walking paths and the occasional bench to watch the waves come in.

Parking is a real challenge, and be prepared to walk thru narrow residential streets. No amenities nearby. This is a surf beach, and the waves are legendary. Not for kids. Yes, the surf shack from the author Tom Wolfe. Surfer heaven.

This is the most beautiful beach and can get packed at times during height of warm weather. Lot of weddings happen here. We love it I go nearly once a week to look at and hear the ocean. The iconic shack is amazing and still there. The surf can be pretty crazy but more off to the sides. Summer is amazing here. I have taken so many pictures and share a few of them here.

Local in water are punks, ....don't let your kids under 18 go out. Locals like to see them, and or....get close and toss their longboard at them! No joke! The bathroom is a mobile bathroom, super gross at all times! Good wheelchair accessibility. Food up the street 5 minutes walk. Don't lose your parking spot! Locals are mostly right side of the shack because they have FOMO. Visitors, and tourist are safer on the left side of the shack. Good luck....epic beach...fun waves!

Usually, It's very crowded here. Good luck finding a parking space during the weekends! The beach itself is fantastic for the ones in love with water and water sports. Nice place to people watch too. It's illegal to drink on the beach and it is enforced. So, keep your beer cans at home guys!

I love this beach. So many beautiful rocks and scenic views. When sitting out, allow a good amount of space between your beach bags or other items and the water because the shorebreak is strong and can pull your belongings in. The beach is a reef break. You have to swim past the rough shorebreak but then you're in deep water because it drops off quick. Only the most experienced swimmers should challenge these waters without fins. Surfers are local and territorial, but out of the water the vibe is very laid back. Aa a result of the strong current, the shape of the beach changes throughout the year. In winter, you can walk into sea caves at the lowest tides.

Great little beach. Lots of rocks onshore that make it more than your standard sandy beach. Stay and watch the sunset from here, don’t leave right after the sun sets. Stick around for 30 mins or so for an even more spectacular show and colors.
