"Another contender for the longest skating track in the world, the Whiteway offers recreation for cross-country skiers, skate-skiers, and figure skaters alike. Located in British Columbia, three hours west of Calgary and two hours south of Bannf, you can glide for 34 kilometers on this path that goes around the lake." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Beautiful calm lake. Beach is rocky so bring the thick blanket.

Lake Windermere (and Columbia Lake) is unknown to most residents of British Columbia, but it’s the closest warm-water lake for residents of southern Alberta. From Golden to Cranbrook, there are seventeen 18-hole golf courses. Winter brings in Panorama ski hill and a frozen lake for driving, skating, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. The golf courses in the pictures are Copper Point and The Ridge, and the Cliffhanger #6 at Greywolf.

What a great outdoor attraction in Invermere, a must-see sight and activity for the whole family! I only gave a 4 star review as the ice was super bumpy and hard to skate on so we turned back, put our boots on and walked the Whiteway instead. Also were wide-tire bikers, cross country skiers besides the skaters and walkers. Was a fun, fresh air activity and on the Sunday even a little coffee, drink and snack trailer was there for people to grab a drink or bite, what a great idea! Lots of parking and I must say their brand new and updated change room/washrooms were super clean and sanitized. Great spot to visit and enjoy!

When I came up from California to visit friends in Calgary, we took a trip to Invermere, BC. It was January so I got to ice skate on the Lake Windermere Whiteway. Check it out on Facebook and the Web. Highlight of my trip. At the time (Jan. 2018) it cost $5 to use the "world's longest ice trail" around the lake. I hadn't been on ice skates in years so only did a round trip of 5 miles (8 km) across the lake to the town of Windermere and back. Parallel to the skating trail there was a cross country ski trail, and there were people out doing that too. I passed ice fishing huts. The trail is machine groomed continuously. That's what the fee pays for. This was the highlight of my trip to Canada from the US. Neat little towns with lots to do. None of my buds ice skate so they hung out downtown with their families while I did my thing. This was the highlight of my trip to Canada from the US.

Beautiful area. It looks great for walking and skiing, but the skate track is poorly cared for. Skates kept sinking and catching, and we couldn't find the smaller loop we had intended to do. Still a great experience. Appreciate the people who put the hard work in to make this happen.

Great place to visit in the summer and winter. In the summer the entire lake can be used for your enjoyment, boating, waterskiing, tubing, or just plane old swimming. In the winter, when the lake freezes, they make a giant skating area and skating pathway system that is fun for the whole family. When looking for a place to stay, try and find a nice family style home to stay in, and stay away from those mass built cookie cutter condos. Usually, you can find a family owned and operated cabin for the same price as those ugly condos.
