3 Best Day Trips from Amsterdam | Condé Nast Traveler
"Resting on the banks of the Spaarne River, the De Adriaan windmill was rebuilt in 2002 as a replica after the 18th-century original burned down in 1932. Be here prepared to climb up four floors of very steep stairs to get to the top, though we promise it's worth it: you'll be met with the best view of Haarlem." - Meredith Bethune
This was absolutely a highlight of a river cruise that ended in Amsterdam! We took a day trip to Haarlem and visited this working windmill. For a very reasonable fee, we were invited inside and to the top on a guided tour. Unspoiled and stunning! Highly recommend!

This is a great little tour, and definitely worth the 1hr and minimal entry fee. Our guide was excellent, and we learned heaps about the history and technical workings of the windmill. Views are great from the top too!

What an interesting tour with guides who do an excellent job explaining history, mechanics and engineering in an interesting manner. Our guide Jan even went above and beyond to give me insight on my Dutch last name. I can’t wait to do more learning on my own about the Dutch after this experience.
This is a must-do when in Haarlem!

This place was a highlight of our trip to the Netherlands. Great exhibits with models of windmill components, and excellent your guide, good view, and of course the windmill itself. (BTW it's a recreation of the original that burned down in 1932)

Amazing museum, absolutely worth it! Very informative and very interesting, you can see how the mill works and all the techniques that are used to run it. The mill is run by volunteers who are very welcoming and ready to share their knowledge with you.

We had such a nice tour of the windmill with JK! I honesty wasn’t expecting to learn so much in such an engaging way, meet the miller and see live demonstrations, and, not to mention, experience nice views of Haarlem from the top.
