Booked in midweek, even though we were early our room was ready. We were shown to our room by a very polite girl at reception. Our room had all the necessities but the room was a bit small for a king size bed. The bathroom was very nice, bath plus shower with shampoo and toiletries. We had dinner in the bar on our first night, lovely food and very nice staff. Bar staff were very friendly and engaged in conversation and banter. The beer was top class which is unusual for a hotel bar. We had dinner in the restaurant the second night, dinner was included in our package and was really lovely. The waiting staff were very efficient and helpful. We didn't bother with the hot tubs as the weather wasn't great, but I do think 30 euro per person is a bit much. You get 25 minutes in the tub and 15 in the sauna and there's a guy to tell you your time is up. A really lovely relaxing hotel but it is definitely lacking a swimming pool etc. Before I sign off special mention again to the bar staff very friendly.

We are just back from a night away at Wineport & I have to say we were blown away by the place. It was just fantastic & we loved every minute of our stay there. |As soon as we entered the hotel we were greeted by the friendly assistant manager Brendan. He took our bags & brought us straight to the bar & brought us a welcome drink. It was the loveliest start to our break. |We arrived early & while we were having lunch we’re told our room was ready. The helpful receptionist brought us to our room, we had treated ourselves to a suite & it was one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. |It was really spacious, gorgeous decor & had a lovely big balcony over looking the lake with the most amazing views. |The weather was really sunny & blue skies & we saw the most beautiful sunset & sunrise from our balcony. |The bar staff were all super friendly & efficient & served up delicious cocktails. |All our meals were gorgeous & all the staff we encountered were very friendly & helpful. It’s hard to single out anyone but special mention to Brendan who is a complete natural at what he does & puts everyone at ease. |We had a minor issue & he rectified it straight away & we are grateful to him for that. |Jennifer in the spa was also super friendly & an absolute pleasure to deal with. |I would highly recommend Wineport & we can’t wait to return for another hopefully longer visit.

Day four of Mizen to Malin saw us depart from Athlone, and in particular The Wineport Lodge.||We were invited to the Wineport Lodge for a complementary breakfast before departing for Northern Ireland.||Sarah, our host was super amazing, providing us with croissants, good coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice & muffins (we couldn’t eat a large breakfast because of cycling)!||Not only did they provide us with breakfast, they also sent us on our merry way with a packed lunch, which was very much appreciated 70km into the route. Yummy sandwiches & fruit.||We cannot thank you enough for your beautiful hospitality & the many, many superb photographs that were taken. We are truly humbled by your generosity 🥰

We spent the last 4 days relaxing at Wineport Lodge. The team are very professional also relaxed and very friendly. Our room was perfect with a lovely view. Also the food is top class. We came to relax and Wineport is the perfect venue to do so. |The stand out aspect for us, is the team who looked after us. We were made so welcome and no request was a problem. Everyone we met operated to this standard but we would like to particularly thank Curtis, who was very helpful when Paula was unwell. ||Paula & Kieran, Dublin

Upon arrival we were given a lovely welcome by Margot, brought us to our room and showed us everything. There was a lovely balcony but we couldn't sit outside until late as there was a lot of wasps, probably a nest nearby. We had dinner in the grapevine bar, service was poor. The food not much better, average burger, but had to send chips back twice! And still couldn't eat them. Breakfast was good but I wouldn't return.

I have just returned from a super night at Wineport lodge with my two sisters. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Friendly, attentive staff who provided top quality service. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast at the hotel and all our food was superb. We stayed in a gorgeous room with a lovely view of the lake and a large balcony. The welcome treats were a lovely touch. We all attended the spa for treatments and thoroughly enjoyed it and the use of the infinity pool. I could not fault this hotel and have already booked a return trip for February. This is a great spot for a relaxing break with great food and service you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Carol at the front desk was wonderful! The bed was super comfortable. Quaint. Jason at the bar was friendly and did a great job. The service in the restaurant was terrible and the food was sub-par. The steak was well done and no one came to check if we needed anything. Continuously had to ask for another pint/beverage, water, ect. Asked for 2 different desserts before our main course was serviced, she ignored the apple crumb request and brought us something completely different. Will not return.

Yelp
We stayed here 10 years ago and before that I had the opportunity to dine in their restaurant well before the TV show made it famous. To be fair it was always famous at least to any foodie. We had a lovely lakeside sure. All rooms named after wine and each have a bottle in the room to maintain the theme. The room was spacious with large bedroom, bathroom and a decked balcony overlooking the lough. With such a lovely room and friendly greeting by reception who escorted us to our room it is hard to find faults. You can hire BMW bikes if you are so inclined which is complimentary. Also 2 hot tubs and a spa. We had our table booked for 7.30 but had a drink before in the Bollinger Lounge before hand. the measures of wine for a glass are very generous. The seafood platter and accompanying bread was the best of the courses I had. The salmon was just slightly over but rested on very tasty crushed potatoes. The wine list isn't as extensive but certainly hits the right areas. we were seated at a table overlooking the lough and great views of the sun set. Breakfast in the morning can be enjoyed in the restaurant or they will bring to your room for no extra cost. we decided take it in our room. Is the wineport the same as 10 years ago? probably not, I think subtle changes have taken place and some of the focus moved from the food and wine to a more crowd pleasing menu. This I think is unfortunate. I had to give a 5 due to staff, room, location and my overall enjoyment

Yelp
Gorgeous spot by Lough Ree, 10 minutes drive away from Athlone. We were here for a wedding and stayed in the lakeside room with fabulous views of the lake, and a very comfy bed + bathroom with Voya products. The venue was very well appointed with great roaring fires - our evening meal was fantastic (beef fillet was melt-in-your-mouth). Only downside was the wedding coordinator who had a power trip ringing the dinner bell with an over-aggressive right hand throughout the day. We are there to attend a wedding, not to be herded like cattle! A fork against a champagne flute works just as well.

Yelp
I've no reason not to give this a five. The staff are lovely. They upgraded our room which was a lovely surprise on arrival. Huge bed, huge shower and bath. Then the views over the lake are just glorious. Even in grey weather. We had a drink in the Bollinger lounge before dinner. I had a French martini. It was super. They brought us the menus and was able to order before even going to our table in the restaurant. They then came back to show us through to our table when our starter almost ready. We were shown through to our window table. Fabulous views of the lake at sunset. Just breathtaking. To the food. We shared the seafood platter. My favourite had to be the prawns Marie rose (retro I know but still a firm favourite) For my main I ordered striploin steak with sweet potato fries and Bearnaise sauce. The fries were served in a cute little pail. The steak was well seasoned and cooked how I like it. For dessert I chose the chocolate tasting plate. I loved the cookie and cream ice-cream. The following morning we chose to have breakfast in our room. I went for the Irish breakfast with pink grapefruit juice and coffee. Great coffee and loved the black pudding. Last time we were here was almost 10 years ago. It was far more expensive then from what I remember. Sorry I left it so long. Definitely won't leave it as long next time!! Didn't try hiring a BMW bike or their hot tubs. That's for next time :)

Yelp
Absolutely the best meal in Athlone. This place sits right on the lake with fantastic views of the countryside. The filet was huge, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Sides were great. Cocktails were exciting especially the smoking Old Fashion. Highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner or with a small group.

Yelp
This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed in. Right on the lake, with every room facing the lake and decorated to the highest spec. I was here for a work seminar .. the rooms were stunning .. victorian baths and walk in showers , heated floors and the sweetest little balcony on the lake. The staff were wonderful, the Guinness was so smooth and creamy, the food in the restaurant and the wine delish. I wish I had been their with my beau as it was dead romantic! About an hours drive from Dublin. Just lovely xxx

Yelp
Wowsers. Recently stayed here for my boyfriend's birthday. I bought a Pigsback deal which included all sorts of lovelies like tea and scones on arrival, late check out, breakfast in bed (which I realised later that they offer to everyone for free-amazing nonetheless!) and the icing on the cake- hot chocolate served to you in the hot tub!!! We were welcomed by the owner at the front desk as we walked in the door, nice guy, very attentive and an ever so little bit quirky! We were upgraded complimentary to one of their suites which had a huge private balcony overlooking the lake! *NOTE* All the rooms have private balconies overlooking the lake, but ours was the biggest!! Dinner was so so. I was a little disappointed as it is expensive. Lucky we got there in time for the early bird- €22.95 for 2 courses. Couldn't help feel sorry for those who got stung for €35 for 2 courses later on. This is where they film the RTÉ programme "The Restaurant" so I expected amazing things. It was certainly better than most restaurants but not 4 star like the hotel. It would have been a 5 star review only for the food!! Also, they only sell wine by the 50cl bottle starting at €20 and heading up up up in price! Still.... we had two bottles! The highlight of our stay there was the rooftop hot tub! I mean, wow!! We went the night we arrived and had our hot chocolate and then went back for another dip the following morning! Amazing!!

Yelp
I went kayaking on Lough Ree yesterday near Glasson. When I went out in the Kayak I realised that the recreation area I had stopped in is right beside Wineport Lodge, somewhere I have always meant to try. The view of the lodge as seen from from the lake is fantastic so I told my wife we would have dinner there when we are done kayaking. The view of the lake from the restaurant is even better (seem image). Large cruisers were docking at the private wineport dock and enjoying dinner and drinks. I saw at least one bucket of champaign heading out to the al-fresco diners. The restaurant is not cheap. If you like steak, expect to pay more than €30 for the pleasure. If you are early enough though, the early bird menu at €22 for two courses is very good value for money. The only downside is the early bird menu is quite limited (3 options for main course) but is all quite lovely sounding. I had a duck confit starter and a honey roast port main course and side of asparagus spears. It was lovely and I enjoyed every bite. Apart from the restaurant, the place is a hotel and spa and judging from the quality of the restaurant, and the location, I reckon it is an absolutely amazing place to stay.

Yelp
Had a great experience at this lodge. Beautiful building and room, in a lovely locale at the edge of the lake. Staff were very accommodating and pleasant, without hovering. There aren't a lot of notable destinations in the area, but this oh so relaxing spot was just perfect for our first few days in Ireland. I'm very happy I found this somewhat hidden gem. I felt that the rates here represented solid value for what was provided, with only one exception. We had dinner in the lodge dining room one evening, and there absolutely was not good value. I would recommend dinner here only for convenience. The breakfasts here (which are included) on the other hand were the best I've had anywhere.

Yelp
I was referred to this hotel by a friend and advised to check it out. I actually drove to the hotel from the Longford area - about a 40 minute drive with the intention of having the advertised Afternoon Tea service or a late lunch. When I arrived, I was unimpressed by the building- it appeared a little shabby from the outside. I walked all around looking for the Main Entrance as there was a wedding party sitting outside occupying many tables. I then realized that I would have to make my way through the wedding party to enter the hotel. As I was about to do so, a staff member appeared and asked me if she could help me. I replied that I was looking for the entrance and that I was planning on having something to eat. "Ah, no", she replied. "We have a wedding going on today and the hotel is closed to anyone but the wedding party". I then asked... "what do you say to people like myself who traveled specifically to this hotel as a destination hotel, that requires, in my case, 40 minutes of travel by car...?" She replied.. 'Well, I'm sorry, we're closed for everyone but the wedding party". Need I say anymore! Clearly, this is not a professionally-run, sophisticated hotel operation. If it were, A. No guest would be turned away and B. A Wedding is an event- no single event should down all other services in a hotel. Ironically, I had checked out the hotel website before setting out on my drive and all services were fully advertised as fully-functioning- Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Bar etc. When I arrived, however, this was not the case. Wineport Lodge, on the basis of this effort, does not merit a second glance.

Yelp
Spent another idyllic weekend at the Wineport. Arrived on Friday night and, after a quick change, cocktails and a fabulous dinner in the restaurant. We shared a massive helping of mussels for starter and our lamb and monkfish mains were excellent, accompanied by a very excellent monte sangiovese. Saturday morning breakfast in bed with the Irish Times. Note to hoteliers - the Indo is not an acceptable alternative. Saturday night, dinner again, this time with no starters. My wife chose a seafood grill this time whilst I settled for an old fashioned striploin steak cooked to perfection. This time we had a very good Marques de Riscal to go with the food. Service on both nights by the excellent Tilly, friendly, knowledgeable and professional at all times was an added bonus. Since we've been here before, they now offer a 10% discount on everything and the wine list was, unusually, organised by price as well as colour. Service charge was very much optional and, in our case, given willingly. Sunday morning, breakfast in bed with the SBP to the sound of Ireland hammering Italy in NZ. Note yo hoteliers - the Sindo is not an acceptable alternative to the Business Post. All in all, an excellent break from the rat race. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, all with a kiler view of the lake, robes and slippers included, the real 5-star treatment. We left reluctantly on Sunday and headed back to Dublin which, incidentally, is just over an hour away with motorway pretty much all the way so no excuse. Saving for our next visit already.

Yelp
Our third visit to the Wineport. We live 2 hours away and cannot emphasise how good this hotel is. Post Italian vacation blues are always addressed at the Wineport. It's a 'best kept secret' location. Long may it continue !
