21 Best Bars in Tokyo, from Hotel Lounges to a Tequila Speakeasy | Condé Nast Traveler

"There’s only room for about eight guests at Waltz, a standing-room-only wine bar in a GPS-confounding location about 10 minutes away from Ebisu station. You’ll know you’re in the right place once you slide open the glass door and see the Jaques Tati posters and bottles of natural wines, largely from France and Italy, chilling quietly in a corner. The bearded and bespectacled owner Yasuhiro Ooyama always has something interesting on his rotating list. He favors the Jura and Japanese wine but also has several bottles made by Japanese producers based in France." - Melinda Joe

Hidden Gem? Romantic Get away? Wine lovers private hide out? How about a place you only imagine finding, with the most knowledgeable win person in the perfect setting. Great in ways that are almost impossible to describe, yet can not go unnoticed. Hard to find on Yelp, Google or any map, but simply just across the way and down the street. Worth while to find, visit and enjoy.

A bit hard to find so once you see the building from the main road, make sure you walk towards the back of the building. The wines are exclusively natural wines. As the wall shows, it seems they nickle and dime you even for water. The decor is bare bones with posters of the French films of Jacques Tati and ambient music of west coast jazz classics like Chet Baker and the like. The space is basically standing only for ten people max and patrons are pretty much shoulder to shoulder. The owner/proprietor was not very talkative or terribly hospitable when I went so I left after one glass of wine for JPY 1000.

Small and standing style wine bar. The people say master has hundreds of wines and know well about wine.

Cute little wine bar with enough room for max 10 people. Mostly standing room only, but dimly lit and good vibes. Tried a couple of natural wines by the glass, all delicious and very affordable. Would come back again next time I'm in Tokyo.

Small standing wine bar. You choose red or white and the owner offers you 2/3 to choose from. The bar closes at midnight but the owner didn’t rush us out and he is such a lovely gentle eclectic human. The wines are very reasonably priced and the ones I tasted last night were delicious.

For a wine bar that pours wines by the glass, I was shocked they refused to pour splashes of anything for people to try. There’s no wine list, but the woman at the bar also seemed to have no interest in describing what she had to offer, or to suggest anything except to cross her arms to make it clear that she would not let me taste anything. Incredibly rude and not at all worth the effort to find the place.
