Where to Stay in Austin When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"I recommend Wingate by Wyndham as one of the few budget options near East Austin, noting it sits on the border between East Austin and Downtown, is a short walk to Franklin Barbecue, and offers comfortable rooms with a free breakfast." - Matthew Kepnes

We stayed at Wingate by Wyndham York for the weekend to attend a concert at the Appell Center and a ghost tour of Lititz. The room was spacious, clean & comfortable, but the carpet could use a refresh, and the pillows were too soft & squishy. The bathroom was very clean, and the shower water pressure was excellent. The continental breakfast was excellent if you enjoy egg products, breakfast meats and do-it-yourself waffles. All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. All in all, it was an extremely good value for the accommodations, amenities and location.

Check in was no problem, the lady on the reception was polite and friendly and gave us all the information we needed for our stay. The room was comfortable, and in fact the bed was the most comfy I have stayed in for a long time. Shower was superb, really powerful and hot. I was disappointed to find the hotel doesn't have a bar or any beers for purchase, but there are lots of places nearby if you are prepared to walk. My only disappointment was the breakfast. I thought the choice was limited. Compared to other hotels we stayed in during our trip, there wasn't a lot to pick from. Overall though, the staff are friendly and professional, its located in a good area and the rooms are comfortable. I think if they modernised the hotel and increased their breakfast choices, this place would be a winner.

Very clean, comfortable and friendly staff. It was also quiet. Breakfast was what I expected. Some cold items, a few hot items. Good coffee. Ignore any bad reviews expect the one that showed a picture of ugly broken an repaired. We had that in our room. No big deal.

My husband, young child, and I checked in at roughly 3:50pm and had documented the unacceptable state of the room and proceeded to speak with the front desk around 4:47pm. We had checked in, used the toilet, and been so thoroughly concerned about the condition of the room that we brought it to the attention of staff as soon as possible. The duvet was stained, there were stains and marks on the walls, the wall near the safety latch was damaged, and the bathroom was filthy. The grout was various shades of gray and black and visible mold/mildew was in and around the tub. The most concerning part was what appeared to be blood splattered on the ceiling and wall of the bathroom. Upon voicing our concerns and attempting to show the photos to the front desk worker, we were told we could not be transferred to another room and that no housekeeping staff was present, so the room in question couldn't be cleaned until possibly the next day. We were effectively told "to take it or leave it" and chose to check out due to safety concerns. My husband emailed the photos of the state of the room to the supposed manager the evening this all took place, and we have heard nothing back. Someone reached out to me via Booking.com, stating I was refunded the cost of the second night of the stay, but no such refund has been reflected in my account. Also, refusal to refund the first night, when we had only spent 1 hour (at most) on the premises is insulting at this juncture. Update as of 10/24: I have still not received any refund, resolution, or even further correspondence from anyone at or affiliated with this property.

Stayed here twice, 2023 & 2025. Would stay again. Comfortable beds, spacious rooms with extra furniture like chairs, quality complimentary toiletries (actual brands), nice breakfast variety in the morning, and very friendly staff. Located mere minutes to downtown York’s lovely shops and restaurants, the heritage rail trail parking lot, or the YCP campus. Also very affordable, a bit secluded up a hill surrounded by trees for privacy and quiet away from the downtown bustle, and allows pets. The fitness room needs work—the pins you use to set the weights are not secured and are at risk of rattling out during use, two dumbbells were missing, cleaning spray but no wipes/napkins, etc. This room was not indicative of the rest of the hotel’s quality, and many people will not consider the fitness room an important detail, so it’s not much of a detriment.

This was the third time my job has put me in this hotel which is more like a motel. It’s always dirty and the room smell is stale. You must bring your own sheets and towels and cleaning supplies. Rooms are extremely dirty. This past weekend I get to my room unpack make the bed go to shower no shower curtain. Front desk says they don’t know where they’re kept. I can move you from your king room to a double queen 🤦🏽‍♀️ I decline it’s almost midnight so I line the floor with towels. Upon about to get in the shower tub toilet and sink was dirty. Overall the hotel is not clean and they offer nothing for your inconvenience. I will never stay there again. I’d rather pay out of pocket myself. It definitely gives bed bug vibes and maybe a hotel to house homeless. I even had to pay extra for an extended checkout and they tried to rush me like they was about to clean. Just to put someone else in the dirty ran down room.

Simple, clean, convenient hotel. EXCEPTIONAL staff - am staying here again because of their stellar service. Pam was very helpful and accommodating. Lisa helped with a local shopping request. Housekeepers are delightful. Breakfast is plain, entrance is a bit tricky to initially locate. Price is great.

Only good thing about this hotel is close proximity to York fair grounds. Everything else is not great. First off we booked because of the pool and it doesn’t exist and we were informed after we paid. We booked and paid through Expedia. There was a deposit and I was aware and they had a card to charge. There was an issue with my card as they tried pushing through the deposit multiple times to the point that my bank froze my card for suspected fraudulent activity. This didn’t stop them though! They kept trying! When they called me FOUR TIMES throughout the day while traveling and they were rude but I explained I’m at the wheel and I’ll update the card when I get there. They said okay each time but continued to try and charge the same card. They even went as far as to call me back to back during an event I was at. I spoke with the night person when we got there and he wasn’t very friendly but told me to speak to the GM in the morning. He wasn’t very friendly able to put the deposit on our other card and we went to our room. I took a video of the room as we got there because this is just something I do - but the carpets are gross, the bedding stained, tile in the bathroom wobbly because they aren’t put in properly, dresser doesn’t close properly, bathroom is gross. The next morning hours before check out I’m getting multiple emails asking when I’m checking out. We still have 4 hours before check out! I went down to check out and the Gm instantly rude. It’s clear they spoke about me that morning at shift change (I have a lot of tattoos it’s easy for them to describe me). The Gm spoke over me, told me repeatedly I was wrong about them trying multiple times to charge the deposit (but then says they did in fact try many times). I was trying to offer feedback that their customer service was not great and this guy is just proving they don’t know what good customer service is. Talking over people and arguing them? Come on. This entire stay was a headache and I’ll never be back.

Yelp
The pictures and videos speak for themselves, so there's not much more to say. I don't recommend this hotel.

Yelp
they stole my money!!!!!!!!!! I made a reservation with them recently but realized I put in the wrong dates. I contacted the app I used to book it and they tried contacting the hotel to inquire about getting me a free cancellation. after all, I only made an error with the dates. they declined my request for a free cancellation and now I have to pay for a room I won't even be using. This is essentially theft!! this hotel is stealing hundreds of dollars from me!! I shouldn't be punished for an absent minded moment. Avoid this hotel and chain at all costs. Zero stars, zero respect!!

Yelp
Getting there: A bit of a hastle. It's back behind other run-down stuff, so you need to pay close attention to your GPS. Reservation/Checking In: The front desk person was super nice. We'd reserved adjoining rooms so that our 14-year old could have her own room while feeling safe. When we arrived, she told us that the reservation was a "request" not "guaranteed." This was not explained when we made the reservation. Front desk person ended up looking into other available room types and found us what we needed. Breakfast: Don't expect much from the complementary breakfast. There are breakfast cereal options: cereal (cheerios, corn flakes, and raisin bran) juice, coffee (not good), and apples. You can also make yourself a waffle and there were some eggs and sausage (they were beige and unappetizing). I made the regrettable choice of oatmeal, thinking that this would be a safe gluten-free option. It was a sad semi-warm gluey bowl of oats that didn't improve with brown sugar. Room: The rooms were pretty good sized and had TVs that we didn't use. Our room was very hot when we entered, so we had to open the window (in January). There were no USB ports, so be sure to bring your own. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms had everthing that you needed. Amenities: We didn't use the pool or the other amenities. We also didn't use the complementary wifi, as our cellular coverage was better. Smelly: The lobby, hallways, and rooms smelled musty. The hallways, near the elevators, had "fresh paint" signs, but that wasn't the smell. But the smell was more of a mildew combined with pot smell, rather than fresh paint. We're not likely to stay there again if we ever return to the York area. We hope that there will be a better option (or we will drive to the next town).

Yelp
Customer service By Pam was horrible tried to get smart in a nice tone also was not trying to help to fix my problem but push policy

Yelp
This hotel is a perfect safe place to stay while visiting York, Pa. Only a $7 Uber or Lift ride in and out of town. If you need to drive into town there are parking garages. Also if you have to "visit" the courthouse cell phones are NOT allowed. The rooms are clean and smell nice. The bathroom pretty good with plenty of water pressure for the shower. Breakfast was just ok with the usual eggs, ham, waffle, bagel, etc. I can't say enough about how the nice the staff was. Only problem was I requested a single King room but was assigned a two queen room. No biggie but I didn't press the issue either. We never got into the indoor pool but it didn't look that great either. Possibly because it looked heated and bubbly. People have complained on this platform about the hot tub being under construction.....well it was. So what! Why would you get into a hotel hot tub anyway??!! We will definitely be back this spring/summer for some downtown funnery.

Yelp
I have never stayed at a Wyndham hotel before but I have to say that this place was nice on many levels. First of all, the staff are very friendly and accommodating- especially the ladies ("Summer" & "Ofelia") working the breakfast this weekend (1/13-1/15) They made sure that food was always stocked- even when fifty 15-yr old volleyball girls came down to eat all at once. Even with the attitudes of hungry teenage girls who had to wake up at 5:15 am on a weekend - these staff members were all smiles. They appear to go the extra mile for their guests which is a plus. The started the breakfasts at 6 am (One hour earlier than usual) for our volleyball girls who had early morning matches. The complimentary breakfast is pretty good. There was a variety of food over the three mornings we were here which included delicious bacon, sausage, hash browns make your own waffles, and eggs. There was also a good selection of fruit, yogurts, breads, and other items. The rooms were good- not luxury rooms but good. Parking was plentiful and there are a lot of places around here to eat. Flexible with a later checkout for us too. Very small fitness center though. If there was a bigger fitness center, I might give this place 5 stars. We would definitely return. I have to say, we loved the complimentary fresh baked chocolate chip cookies that were available each day for the guests. Nice touch.

Yelp
This was a nice stay of several days. Our room was clean and large enough for three. Breakfast included waffles bacon sausage and fruit along with the others usual items. Hotel was a bit farther from the convention center but a quick drive. Parking gets a bit tight especially if you are in a large truck or towing a trailer

Yelp
The staff was very welcoming. Breakfast was pretty good. Rooms are clean and comfortable beds. Kudos to Nariyza her customer service and friendliness was awesome.

Yelp
Suited our needs. Clean, comfortable room, jacuzzi and indoor pool. Free hot breakfast was the typical 'not hot' breakfast, which we plated and heated up in microwave Still okay with us. This place is kinda hidden and it took three passes to find it, but if you are on Route 30, look for the Motel 6 and turn there. The Wingate sits on the hill behind it. Free wifi.

Amal H.

Yelp
Be advised - despite what the website says, there is NO hot breakfast, and the pool is CLOSED. Someone was also smoking on our floor - multiple times - despite being advertised as a non-smoking hotel. There is also only sporadic housekeeping service. There is a bin on the ground floor for used towels and the front desk will exchange them for clean ones should you need new towels in between housekeeping visits. That said, the hotel was clean and the front desk did try their best to try to be accommodating. Specifically the terrific lady on duty several nights who made it her mission to get me a new hair dryer, and followed up to make sure I actually got one. I wish I had gotten her name.

Yelp
Hotel common areas are clean and well maintained. Hotel staff is super friendly. My king room was spacious and spotless. Mattress was comfortable with both firm and soft pillows provided. Plenty of outlets for your electronics, ample stations on TV, in-wall AC/heat quiet and does the job well. Room came with coffee maker, miini-fridge, microwave. The usual bathroom amenities, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, hair dryer. Towels are fairly large, soft without the strong odor of bleach.. just enough to let you know they use it. Complimentary breakfast includes the typical hot and cold items. Free WiFi does the job. The hotel has business room with computer access, a fitness room and pool. I did not use either the pool or fitness room, simply pointing out additional amenities. Hotel is located close to most everything, including downtown. A couple of drawbacks I noticed: breakfast juices tasted a little bland, coffee brand was not to my liking, but not terrible. Other than that, this place is top-notch for a mid-range priced hotel and I'll stay here again.

Yelp
Place is probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Pool had chunks of hair in it and the hot tub that was 68° had mucus floating at the top. They had no complementary items that they said they had, and the whole place smelled like marijuana. DONT RECOMMEND!

J K.

Yelp
Let's start with... I will never stay at this hotel again!!! No signage on the road to tell you where to turn into to get to the hotel. What hotel doesn't have signage on the road to tell you "turn here "? 11 o'clock at night and I passed the turn three times before I figured it out. Upon checking in I am told that the breakfast bar is closed and I will be getting breakfast-in-a-bag. Nowhere on their website did it say that the breakfast bar was closed. One of the reasons that I picked the hotel. Another reason I picked the hotel was because of the pool. Nothing on the website said that their pool was closed. And then to top it all off when I went down to get our breakfast in a bag I was told that breakfast ended three minutes ago. Are you kidding me!!! It was 9:03 in the morning and breakfast ended at 9 o'clock. Oh, so sorry I didn't get up at the crack of dawn. How ridiculous is that. There were a dozen breakfast-in-a-bag sitting there and instead of asking how many bags I needed, I was informed I was 3 minutes late. I don't care if I was three hours late, if there were still breakfast in the bag give them to your customers. I will never stay at a Wingate hotel again!!! Customer service is dead.

Yelp
The rooms are actually really nice and so are the people however it's very noisy... the rooms are like paper with a connecting door, so if (in my case) you have a kid crying or loud people next to you expect to be woken up

Yelp
New hotel so it is still nice and clean. The rooms are spacious and the staff is very helpful. The free breakfast sucks, but it's free so can't complain too much there. Very small gym.

Stan H.

Yelp
The staff is very attentive and courteous, rooms clean and well appointed and A/C works great, parking excellent. WiFi worked well and breakfast was ok. I would rate this hotel higher but the hotel caters to sports teams and yes during my first night a big problem, staff addressed problem but why the @#$%& should guests have to put up with this, block rooms away from regular guests as you know ahead of time these jocks are coming to the hotel. Next night on a different floor same problem. Please don't say its' the parents who live in a bubble and no one should say anything about their unruly kids or a coach who is drinking beer on the patio while the kids raise heck, the fact is they are in the hotel and guests shouldn't have to put up with this. Stay at this hotel but check ahead of time about sports teams: in this hotel and others.

Sam P.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place to stay in York, I would highly recommend you not book a room with this hotel. A friend of mine was getting married in the area and she reserved rooms for her guest at a locked rate at $109. When I called to book a room for her wedding, I asked if they took a AAA discount which they confirmed they did. They told me it would be $85. I did not get a confirmation email and was not told the details of my stay or cancellation policy. I called the day of my stay to cancel my reservation and the desk manager informed me that I couldn't due to their 48 hr cancellation policy. I was understanding even though I had not been told this. I wanted to confirm how much it would be and she told me $109. I told her that I had been quoted something else and he said that I was part of the group rate. To make a long story short, they would not honor the price I was told. I thought the manager was uncooperative and had an attitude. She told me that the girl did not tell me this so she was calling me a liar.I would never come back or recommend this hotel to anyone.
