Wing's Castle is truly unique, a great work of creative genius. The effort that went into building this amazing structure is incredible. Walking the grounds produces a new discovery each time! The proprietress, Toni Ann Wing, is an exceptional person herself and provides a wonderful tour when you stay there. The place is rurally located, and the small towns nearby are friendly and inviting. It is only half an hour from the Hyde Park area where one can visit the Frederick Vanderbilt mansion, FDR's home and presidential library (which was very infirmative), and the Ogden Mills/Ruth Livingston home (hosting a fabulous antique car show in the month of October (around 500 cars!) And an hour south in Tarrytown is Lyndhurst, a beautiful mansion once owned by Jay Gould, and Washington Irving's home of Sleepy Hollow fame. The town of Millbrook has a great little diner, and in October in the next town over, Stanfordville has a local weekend nighttime haunted Halloween "tour" that was decidedly simple, but different and fun. Toni's husband, Peter, was instrumental in building the very cool props on this Halloween trail throughout the years.||Each of the rooms at Wing's Castle are different and unique. One is the Dungeon and the other is the Chamber. A two-story fairytale house is also available with a kitchen, and across the road by the pond is a chalet type building for two couples (or just one couple) with a kitchen. There is also a mini Stonehenge overlooking the valley below, with table and chairs in the center to watch the gorgeous sunset each night. We asked Toni Wing how on earth they managed to get those large upright stones into the ground, and the answer was "two elephants" who happened to be grazing in the pastures as a retreat from the carnival scene for a few months. She was full of really interesting information, and it was an absolute treat to see a few rooms in her home, the original part of the castle that she and husband Peter built.||No question about it, we will definitely go back to stay again!
