Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre

Great place to meet these NZ raptors up close in a real country setting. Exhilarating to see them soar and swoop and dive at close range. The meet and greet gets you closer again and is another very worthwhile experience. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Sunhats or umbrellas recommended. or both, depending on weather. Plenty of free parking and clean toilets.

I absolutely loved Wingspan and it truly outdid my expectations. The ticket is on the pricer side (~$40) but genuinely so worth it! One, the show was incredible, and two, the money goes back to supporting the amazing conservation work they’re doing. Overall, just cannot recommend this place enough.

We did the Flight of the Falcon talk and loved it! Super knowledgeable and engaging staff who are clearly very passionate about what they do. It was awesome to see the falcons up close and also flying around. Highly recommend making the time to come to this talk. Ticket sale revenue all goes back into the conservation work too which is a winner.

We recently had the pleasure of doing some volunteer work here, and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. The real highlight was getting to watch the show, absolutely amazing. It’s a must-do, even for locals. Get your butts up there!

My friend and I had a wonderful time at the Birds of Prey show on September 19th! The team working here are very knowledgeable and passionate, and they let you see their birds up close! Supporting Wingspan supports birds of Prey native to NZ. I highly recommend coming by if you're in the area.

I visited wingspan upon referral by the Mountagatori (mountain sanctuary) staff. This was excellent, watching a falconry show, seeing the education, research, rehabilitation done there for birds of prey. They have a great aviary that housed endemic Morepork, and falcon, along with some non invasive self introduced birds. Some of which demonstrated there great hunting skills

Hands down the best experience I have had! As a Kiwi, this was an incredibly spiritual experience. To be in the presence of the karearea was an honour; to have such an up close, personal encounter is unheard off. My 8YO nephew proclaimed it was "better than the jet boat ride!" The team were incredible and I 10/10 recommend this experience!

Had heard great things and finally got to visit Wingspan on 23.03.25. What an absolutely incredible experience. All the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly, the birds just amazing. We were blessed to have an off script experience with a juvenile female Karearea repeatedly interrupting the show. Had the whole audience on the edge of our seats. The staffs professionalism even during this challenge was amazing and their passion for the species was evident by their response. Great bang for your buck. Also couldn't help buying from the gift shop. Would highly recommend for any nature lover.
