Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre

My friend and I had a wonderful time at the Birds of Prey show on September 19th! The team working here are very knowledgeable and passionate, and they let you see their birds up close! Supporting Wingspan supports birds of Prey native to NZ. I highly recommend coming by if you're in the area.

Hands down the best experience I have had! As a Kiwi, this was an incredibly spiritual experience. To be in the presence of the karearea was an honour; to have such an up close, personal encounter is unheard off. My 8YO nephew proclaimed it was "better than the jet boat ride!" The team were incredible and I 10/10 recommend this experience!

Had heard great things and finally got to visit Wingspan on 23.03.25. What an absolutely incredible experience. All the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly, the birds just amazing. We were blessed to have an off script experience with a juvenile female Karearea repeatedly interrupting the show. Had the whole audience on the edge of our seats. The staffs professionalism even during this challenge was amazing and their passion for the species was evident by their response. Great bang for your buck. Also couldn't help buying from the gift shop. Would highly recommend for any nature lover.

We came across this place by accident and decided to plan a visit during our next trip to Rotorua. We were blown away by our experience. We learned so much about native birds of prey - the staff are so knowledgable. The Karearea display was so interesting and thrilling to watch. We also had a meet and greet with Nox the Ruru, which was incredibly special. Highly recommend visiting and supporting the important work being done here.

We loved the opportunity to learn about the NZ Falcon. What an amazing job you all do and the meet and greet up close with the Falcon is not to be missed. All proceeds go to the conservation of the magical birds so please go. Arrive early to sit in the front middle for best spot!

Wow, amazing experience. The flight show was exceptional, so we'll presented by the bird handlers. And the meet and greet with " Nox, the morepork", guided by Noel, gave us goosebumps. Thank you to the very passionate team at this unique bird rescue for falcon, Hawks, owls...

If you are looking for an educational experience and to do some good for bird of prey conservation, I can't recommend Wingspan enough! The behind the scenes meet and greet is stunning and well worth it! The birds are gorgeous and the staff knowledgeable and sincere in their compassion for these awesome animals.
