10 Best Local Eats in Amsterdam | Condé Nast Traveler

"While the apple pie is an aside on the menu (albeit one with a smiley), no one comes for anything else and Winkel 43 serves as many as 1,000 slices per day. Dainty isn’t the word for these pies, but spooning through the cool whipped cream, breaking through the thick pastry, and navigating the tower of warm, cinnamon-spiked apples beneath (way less saccharine than the US version) is pure bliss. Be prepared to come early, visit late (it’s open until 3 a.m. on weekends), or wait." - Clodagh Kinsella

We went for a brunch… with a sweet tooth. The server gave us their special apple pie.. baked in-house. We also enjoyed Cappuccino coffee.. perfectly made and served with tiny biscuits. The order came in quick and server was very polite.Lot of sitting outside.

Very busy place - not a bad thing just something to note. I found the cafe too dark for my preference and I couldn’t see the food I was eating which is pretty important to me for the full experience. I know this doesn’t matter to some so personal preference. The apple pie was okay. Definitely tastes home made which is good, and had a very crunchy crust which I like. It was room temperature which, didn’t taste fresh out of the oven. I like mine to be at least warm. It did come extremely fast though, I imagine they just have the pies on plates ready to go. It’s also not too sweet. But I wouldn’t say it’s the best or anything. Just good, not great, in my opinion. I’ve had ones I enjoy more. The bitterballen on the other hand was really good. Best I’ve had so far. They were piping hot and tasted fresh. They pair really well with the mustard sauce provided.

Winkel 43 is one of those places you remember long after the trip. The apple pie is legendary for a reason warm, comforting, and absolutely loaded, especially with a big scoop of whipped cream. No frills, just good vibes and pie done right.

This is such a cute, cosy cafe ! The queues can be long but moves quite fast. It’s nice to sit outside too. The cake is delicious and I love the mint tea they have. Would definitely come back ! I’d say get somebody with you etc to sit at the table whilst you order (to sit outside etc).

Google
Went for lunch at this gesture. We were lucky to get a table inside. Everything we ordered was delicious, their specialty the apple pie was amazing. The club sandwich was perfect and meat in it was perfect. The omelette with cheese and bacon was delicious with copious quantity of bacon and cheese. The service was spot-on with the dessert coming in once we were done with the mains. A great place to go of you are in Amsterdam.

Google
3.5 stars (visited in May 2025) Decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Not that it wasn’t good, it just was. I mostly liked it because I got to eat rice again 🤚 I ordered their dish of the day, which was marketed rather brusquely on the menu as ‘rice with chicken and vegetables’. It ended up being a chicken thigh dish, cooked in a creamy, tangy tomato vegetable sauce. The rice was cooked well, and portion was good. My dish was 17.50 euros which is one of the cheaper options, we also had bovine brisket, which was slightly chewy but otherwise fine and served with potatoes. The shrimp dish was okay. We also ordered a couple of drinks to go with the food. Honestly, the most notable experience here was when we were carted around twice (the second time inclusive of our table) because of the full house, and then proceeded to be served a while later. So yes, this place is honestly a little overhyped (maybe it’s because we didn’t try the apple pie).

Google
Amazing apple pie served right from the oven. Along with a delicious double espresso or cappuccino, among other available beverages. If you love pie just have to come this cute little place. Will definitely come again in the near future.

Yelp
While in Amsterdam, we HAD to try Dutch apple pie. This is THE spot to do just that! There are two lines outside, one to be seated in the actual restaurant, and one to order to go. The tables outside are first come first serve, and the Dutch are friendly enough to share a table with you if you ask kindly! We sat outside to avoid the wait. We ordered two pieces of apple pie with whipped cream, a hot chocolate milk with whipped cream and a cappuccino. Our server said "great choices!" when we ordered, so we knew we were in for a treat. In the US, all of the Dutch apple pie I have ever had, has had some kind of crumble topping, but this apple pie had a thick buttery crust on top and bottom. It was incredible! The apples were sweet, the crust was buttery, the whipped cream was the perfect addition. The hot chocolate milk was so good that my husband drank half of it, and he doesn't like milk! It was a grey, cloudy day and having a slice of warm apple pie was just perfect!

Yelp
Winkel 43 is the poster child for modern day marketing success--they've managed to land on every food blog, IG/TikTok/youtube travel and tourist page about Amsterdam; they're written up everywhere. To avoid FOMO, I found myself here at 10am on a Saturday morning, because I wasn't going to let long lines come between me and trying out their famous apple pie--so pie for breakfast it was! Better to eat those carbs in the morning and burn them off during the day right? (big wink) Good thing I arrived early because on a chilly Saturday, the Noordermarkt (the weekly farmers market located immediately outside this restaurant) was gearing up to full swing and tourists aplenty were flocking from all directions towards Winkel. There were 3 parties in front of me, and I waited for 10 minutes to order at the front counter. Both pie and tea were ready within a few minutes since with a limited menu on market Saturdays (morning thru afternoon), they keep a flow of pie slices ready in the wings ready to serve. Staff was courteous and efficient, they're clearly used to managing the routine chaos of busy days. For seating there are a couple dozen seats inside at communal tables or smaller cafe tables for 2-4. Outside seating in the form of picnic table and benches are available for about 20-25 though depending on the weather you may not want to linger. I was lucky enough to grab a seat next to a back window when another patron left, long enough to consume pie and tea. Verdict? Their Dutch style apple pie was indeed very good, meaty chunks of apple, not too strong on the warming spices, a balanced, sweetened short crust with just the right amount of sugar to give it a caramelized color and flavor. You can opt for with whipped cream (extra €0.90), or without (€5.10 for a plain slice). The serving is pretty large and decently filling, and I recommend it with the whipped cream, which added a little moisture and creaminess. Was it the best apple pie I've ever had? Questionable since there are so many versions out there, though I can say this was among the top. The crust had almost a cookie texture that was really unique, prob one of my top three pie crusts ever. The ginger tea (€2.90? I can't recall) w/fresh slab of ginger was a nice soothing hot drink (unsweetened) for a cold morning. Why 4 stars only? I can't say if this was an off-day, but when I went to use the restroom (two rooms downstairs down a very narrow and steep staircase), I walked in, washed my hands, and walked right back out. The odor in there was so foul it smelled of sewage leaking, even though I could not visibly see anything super dirty. Either way, I couldn't stand it more than 15 seconds, and I'm not usually squeamish about this type of stuff...but it was so extraordinarily overwhelming I felt like I would be ill. Ugh I hope it was an off day, and someone just had a bad time before I walked in. EDIT: reading other reviews apparently the bathroom is an issue for more than a few people so downgrading my review to 3 stars bc that's not ok...this needs to be handled better in a food establishment! Hours are: Mon: 7am-1am Tues-Thurs: 8am-1am Fri: 8am-1am Sat: 8am-2am Sun: 9am-1am For more info: winkel43.nl

Yelp
The pie is worth the hype! You can also grab a piece to go if needed. My husband is not a pie person but even he was wanting to come back multiple days of our trip! We were overlooked a little service wise but it wasn't the end of the world.

Yelp
Their famous apple pie is the main reason for our visit. Additionally, they are open until 1 am so we came right after a canal cruise and was definitely happy we did. They also serve cocktails, beer, tea and coffee. At 10 pm, there is no line so it was very easy to be seated. The apple pie with cream is one of the best pies I have ever had. Balanced, not too sweet with a nice thick crust. The ambiance feels like almost like a dive bar and is quaint.

Yelp
When you come here, expect a line. Is this place overexposed? Yes. Is it overhyped? Absolutely not. It deserves its fame. We came here for the Apple Pie after seeing it highlighted all over social media. For a bonus, we also had the Dutch staple known as a tosti, which is their delicious version of a grilled cheese sandwich. The Apple Pie was incredibly delicious. The strudel crust was different from what you get in the US, and the pie actually tasted like apples and not sugar. The house made whipped cream took it up a level. On a cold rainy morning, this hit the spot. Our ham and cheese Tosti was also tasty. A tasty Tosti! The sandwich was well proportioned and not overstuffed with ingredients. Simple, yet elevated. The place is tight and cozy, but you don't mind it one bit when having food as good as they offer. You need to fit this into your Amsterdam itinerary if at all possible.

Yelp
Came here in the evening for just their apple pie for dessert. Service was a bit slow and not super attentive. Their restrooms were also filthy. They clearly hadn't been cleaned or restocked at all during the day. In terms of the apple pie, I actually quite liked it. You just have to keep in mind that this isn't the American apple pie. It's much more rustic and I loved that it wasn't too sweet. Lots of apples inside.

Yelp
Seeing this spot all over the recs, we have to give it a go. It was very crowded so worth splitting the group up so someone looks for a spot and another waits in line. When ordering, you'll be given the pie immediately but will get a number for the sandwiches and drinks. Known for their apple pie. It was pretty good overall, not much like the American pies we have at home. The crust and pie part is much thicker and the apple is in larger chunks. The whipped cream was really good. My friends got the cheese sandwiches and thought the flavor was a little muted (just straight up cheese), but it's served with ketchup.

Yelp
Not a big fan of apple pie but came for the hype to try it and it was worth it!!! Not a traditional American Apple Pie, thank god. There was a small line but it moved quickly. Friendly staff. The Apple Pie was surprisingly not as sweet as I would expect it. I ordered it with whipped cream which paired perfectly. My favorite part was the lightly burnt cookie crust. The apple pieces are thicker making it look massive but it's not really heavy. The cafes are also really good.
google avatar

Yelp
The Apple pie is amazing! Very sweet but not too sweet! Would recommend but the line is long

Yelp
Stopped by for the pie and was not disappointed! Wish I'd gotten one to take with me, it was so good!

Yelp
This place is legendary and it's for a reason. It is one of the best Apple based desserts that you will ever have in your entire life and include some of the best people watching that you can have in Amsterdam. There is some outdoor seating and some limited places indoors and it really is the perfect spot to take a break as you're exploring the city in the warmer months however, they do have some covers for when it does rain and get colder. The service is what you would expect for a European place so Americans, please be aware that you can sit down and enjoy your tart in peace.
google avatar

Yelp
The rumors are true. It is indeed the best apple pie I ever did have. I came late night after the Anne Frank museum. Enjoyed a glass of wine and a slice of pie. Huge chunks of apple, crispy warm crust, and buoyant whip cream. I enjoyed every bite and fought my self not two get a second serving. Prices are great here despite being such a tourist hub. Wish I could've grabbed some dinner as well.

Yelp
We stopped by to try out this famous apple pie from this bar. Walk in welcome and plenty of seats indoor and outdoor. The waitress recommended a draft beer which is surprisingly good. I forgot the name but it had a flavor of rose! Very good! I don't drink beer usually but I'd give this a 5/5. Meanwhile the famous apple pie is way over rated. I would come back for the beer, but the pie is not worth a visit in my opinion. Its crust is too thick and dry and the flavor is lacking. Not much apple or any flavor at all. Just pure sweetness. 1/5 star

Yelp
Went here because of all of the high reviews.... And... the pie was fantastic! It's all in the crust, savor the big crust bits. Definitely stop in, and it's worth a wait if you have to. However... the bathroom for the women was a disaster and it's very close to the kitchen which was a little unsettling.

Yelp
Really worth the Uber ride over here from our hotel cu our feet were killing! The apple pie was to die for! And o don't really dig apple pie. The crust was perfect and the apple filling was not too sweet. Definitely the best I've ever tasted
google avatar

Yelp
Came up as a spot for Dutch apple pie so we walked over after dinner to try it. Place was fairly busy but service was quick and efficient. We sat outside at one of many tables and ordered. Love the crust around the apples.
google avatar

Jill R.

Yelp
Oh boy, I can't believe I forgot to write a review on this great place in Amsterdam! Our hotel staff told us we had to come here and try the apple Pie ( forgot the exact name ) it was fabulous. Even though our hotel was not close by we found ourselves here almost every night before we left. We have sent friends here too and they loved it. We will definitely visit again if we come back to visit. They had inside and outside seating at the time we visited with long lines for inside seating. Enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a joke! We knew we were going to a tourist trap, and absolutely wished we hadn't. Line was long and super disorganized, and the staff of teenagers have no idea what they're doing. When we showed up, we asked if there was a list we could out our name, to which we were told to just stand on a super disorganized line. While waiting on line, we saw groups of people showing up and just grabbing random open outdoor tables, and the waitstaff would just come and take their orders! Ridiculous. We finally got seated at the bar, and waited, and waited, and waited, while waitstaff and the barista completely ignored us. We waited for about 15 minutes before we got up and left. Unless you enjoy waiting on long lines and being ignored by waitstaff, save yourself some time and frustration and head somewhere else for your Dutch apple pie!
google avatar

RJ O.

Yelp
Epic apple pie with real deal crème. We got here after the kitchen closed, so I cannot speak to anything else on the menu, but the apple pie is the bomb and worth searching it out when you are in Amsterdam.
google avatar

Winnie Y.

Yelp
I came here solely for the apple pie. It was delicious and full of apples rather than the sugary goop you might find in American apple pies. You can have the whipped cream on the side if you'd like. The crust was excellent, but it would've been nice if the pie slice was on a slightly bigger plate because some crust fell off and slid right onto the table because the plate was so small. Service was very friendly but unfortunately a bit slow and disorganized. Since the indoor space was packed, we sat at one of the outdoor tables which is across the street from the main building. Luckily it wasn't raining and the wind wasn't too strong, but I did prefer the outdoor seating to the stuffy indoor ones.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Thought the pie here was good but I definitely agree with the other people that the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Small bar, was crowded and we definitely had to wait a bit. We only got pie and coffee so I can't speak to the other food, the other people at our communal table ordered bitterballen (looked generic) and a plate of nachos that looked absolutely terrible. Come for the pie.
google avatar

Nat W.

Yelp
I had a really good experience here. Was able to grab a seat without a long line. And the server was quick to take our order. It takes a while to get the food and check but that's usually normal in this country. The apple pie was awesome! Lives up to its reputation....Though I was not a fan of the crust (hard and too thick), I loved how the pie was not too sweet at all....just the right amount. Definitely a place to visit in Amsterdam!
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
This famous cafe is home to the even more famous apple pie, which was good but not as mind-blowing as I assumed it would be. Seating is available inside and out and the staff are friendly - if not a little swarmed but all the hungry patrons. Also, I definitely recommend going somewhere else to use the restroom. The stairs to the floor below are a bit scary and the bathroom even more so. I did think the cafe itself held a certain charm, especially because when was the last time you saw a dumb waiter lift opening and containing sandwiches and massive apple pies? Awesome!
google avatar

Emma J.

Yelp
We went here for the apple pie and it did not disappoint! We also got an Irish coffee and an iced chai, but the chai didn't taste like anything and the Irish coffee was mainly whipped cream.
google avatar

Roger P.

Yelp
If you're a fan of Apple pies, then you have to make a stop at Winkel in Amsterdam! They serve some of the thickest slices I've ever seen so come with friends or a big appetite. When we arrived, it was a little confusing where to go for to-go orders. The workers were telling us different things for ordering so it was kind of hectic in the beginning. But I think the way it works is everyone lines up outside, across the street from the entrance. There's actually no lining up in the store or at the door since it'll block the servers. Then a worker comes and sorts through the groups, separating dine-in and take-out. One slice is big enough for about 2-3 people. The apples were large slices instead of diced pieces. And the majority of the pie is apples but the crust was my favorite because of the crumbly and crunchy textures. Each order also comes with a small cup of whipped cream and I wish they gave more to go with the pie. If you want an entire pie, you have to order ahead of time! They also do not take Amex credit cards.
google avatar

Alexander Y.

Yelp
Unbelievably, I have somehow yet to write a review for Winkel 43 despite coming here four times within the span of two years. But my review is basically going to be the same as everyone else's, because the reason we are all coming here is for Winkel 43's famous apple pie. Truly, their apple pie is as glorious as everyone says it is. It is thick, loaded with sweet apple chunks, and complemented by minimal batter and whipped cream. And it is super affordable, like everything else in Amsterdam seems to be. They do have other food, although I've only ever had the bitterballen. They are, in fact, pretty good. The menu is only available at certain times though. So if you're coming late, they only have apple pie and coffee. Staff here are really friendly! Every time I have been here, they have been nothing but kind and courteous to me. If you're in Amsterdam and you don't stop by Winkel 43 at least once, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Absolutely amazing!
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
I'd heard so much hype about Winkel 43 and their famous apple pie, so even though I'm not big on sweets, I decided to give it a try. Honestly, it was better than other apple pies I've had--just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. Funny enough, my fiancé, who does love apple pies, didn't enjoy it as much as I did, so I guess it's hit or miss depending on your taste. That said, I'm not sure I'd wait that long again; we stood in line for over half an hour. The cafe itself is pretty small, and the line moved surprisingly slowly considering almost everyone is just ordering the apple pie. When we finally got a seat inside (luckily, since it was chilly out), I noticed a lot of tables hadn't been cleared for at least 15 minutes, which didn't help with the wait. The bathroom was also not in great shape. If you're curious about the apple pie, it's worth a try, but I'd only go if the line's short.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
The reviews here are all the same so I'll keep it short. I came for the Apple cake. I was alone on a rainy night so I snagged the last seat at the bar. Got my cake with whipped cream and was done and out in 11 minutes. They gave me tap water with it which was nice. In my short time at the bar they went through almost 30 slices of apple cake. I inhaled mine because it was so good. Moist and packed with cinnamon apples and flavor. Loved it.
google avatar

Oliver B.

Yelp
Winkel 43 is famous for their apple pie(5 Euros per Slice). I had to try it and it was amazing. The apple pie is huge and delicious. I also got a cup of cappuccino with it and it was a match made in heaven. The apple pie was the best thing I ate during my trip to Amsterdam. It was the best slice of apple pie I've ever eaten in my life. You definitely have to grab a slice of this apple pie when you're in Amsterdam. It's the number one recommendation from me.
google avatar

Karene C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my visits here. I ended up grabbing apple pie on 3 separate occasions during my stay in the area. It was perfect with my flat white. Staff was friendly every visit. The stop is definitely worth it.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Apple Pie at Winkel 43 is a must. We split a slice of pie and were lucky to grab a seat right outside in the front of the restaurant (it was slammed). I also had a beer and my husband had a latte. The apple pie was so tasty, we demolished it.
google avatar

Kay H.

Yelp
Pros: easy ordering bc there is only apple pie and drinks Cons: our male waiter was a little cold; the female was great We split a piece of pie -really tasty. It's not like American Dutch apple. The crust is like a hard cookie/cake. Very delicious and I loved the mound of whipped cream. Such an iconic stop for an alfresco afternoon treat!
google avatar

Alex s.

Yelp
Small little place but plenty of outdoor seating. Came to try the pie after multiple recommendations (didn't try any of the other food) but definitely lived up to the hype. Delicious rich crust with tasty pie. And to top it off very reasonably priced (which is not something I can say for the fancy stroopwaffles at other shops you'll pass). Close to the Anne Frank House so worth stopping by before or after for a snack.
google avatar

Caroline D.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Winkel 43 since it had such great reviews (mostly for their apple pie). I came in late on a weeknight and they were pretty busy - I had to wait around 15 minutes for a seat at the bar. I ordered the pie as well as a hot chocolate and found both underwhelming - the pie was more doughy than I would have liked and I'm pretty sure the hot cocoa was just a powdered mix. Probably would skip next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Mac M.

Yelp
What can I say? We went for the apple pie. It was delicious and perfect. They had an orderly line and move people through efficiently. We sat outside in the plaza across from the restaurant.
google avatar

Sally W.

Yelp
Apple pie( more like apple bread) Hot chocolate is really hot cocoa not hot chocolate milk Its good but then the place is really packed. Service is not the greatest... soccer season pol just come in n stand to watch the game... service is even worst aka no service Rest rooms r downstairs n its tight n dirty...
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
By far the best Apple pie you will ever experience, it's just perfect. Not too sweet, cinnamon and apples baked to perfection with a crust that you couldn't ignore! They also have great chai tea here and if for whatever insane reason you skip the apple pie their grilled cheese with choice of young or aged cheese is also habit forming.
google avatar

Ray B.

Yelp
This place is something straight out of heaven. I have attempted to replicate their apple cake recipe many times but to no avail. If there is one thing that I would suggest anyone visiting the Amsterdam/Holland area do, it is to visit Winkel 43. The Apple cake is so delicious that I can't remember what else is on the menu. BB
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
Long line to be seated. Shorter line to get take-out. Employees were very friendly and patient despite the confusion going on with people waiting to be seated inside and people waiting for take-out. For take-out, they take your order by the outdoor tables. We waited about 10 mins for our apple pies. The 3 of us shared two slices and it was a good amount. Loved the warm pies with cool whipped cream! Tasted very fresh and not overly sweet! Also loved the crunchy bits of the crust with the soft pie interior. Would come back again.

Yelp
I didn't really understand why my friend wanted to come here and I also couldn't understand why people were lining up outside. After listening to the chatter in line, I found that social media appears to be blowing up over this restaurants' "Dutch apple pie". Still, I didn't really see what the hype was over just for pie. One tip is that if you are getting take out, you do not have to line up outside. Just go in the side door and order your takeout. The line is for people who actually want to sit and eat. This is a relatively small restaurant and it is also very busy due to the hubbub over the pie so you could be waiting a while to get a sit-down table. One thing I also noticed, once we were seated, is that people tend to linger around after eating which holds up the rotation of tables. Most of the patrons were tourists who only came for pie. If there are locals they seem to take takeout possibly so that they don't have to sit around with the obvious population of tourists inside and standing in line. I'd say be courteous, catch the vibe or whatever, take your photos and head out. We actually ordered food, drinks, and then the pie. I ordered a dumpling soup which actually was surprising clean tasting and had just the right amount of saltiness and was comforting. I truly enjoyed the soup and dumplings. My friend got the risotto balls. After a few drinks we decided to tackle the pie. I will admit, the visual was underwhelming. The pie was cold and did not seem fresh. It also was not an entire wedge. It's like someone cut a circle in the middle of the pie and made the edges blunt of the non-crust portion of the pie. Also, something just doesn't sit right with me and cool/cold pie. I also didn't understand the "vibe" in the restaurant. It seemed like they were playing music from the 60/70's but nothing about the interior gives off that era. The restaurant is giving...tourist trap...which is fortunately unfortunate since the actual food and drinks were decent and reasonably priced.

Yelp
This place is famous as their apple pie! I know I saw the travel guide book, it said so good "you should try it!" Well, when I and my husband came to Amsterdam, one of the list was eating Dutch apple pie but this place was little far from we stayed and where we went. Well, final night at Amsterdam, the restaurant where we had dinner was very disappointed service but we were in a "apple pie mode". So, we decided to visit here. This place is very cozy place. When we got here, it was almost 22:00 but this place was so busy. Two ladies in a counter offered to us to sit the counter seats. It was very narrow space but one of the lady moved cups and some stuff on the counter and made us space. She had nice smile and asked us what we'd like to order. We asked one apple pie and two coffee. Shortly apple pie came (we were asked with whip or not, of course yes!), wow it was huge slice! Apple filling was big chunky and tasty, and crust was thick. We love it! It was crowded so after we finished pie and coffee, we asked check and left. I asked my husband how much was the apple pie. My husband said free. No way!? But he said the lady said if you order the drink, pie is free. OMG!! What a good deal! Well, just after we got inside, two guys came and sit next to us. They ordered an apple pie and shared. My husband said they paid for pie almost same cost for our two coffee. Lol!!

Yelp
Do I recommend? A 100 times, yes. The tart was perfect. My wife who normally doesn't like apple pie, loved this tart. When they ask you "with or without cream" , say yes to the crème!

Yelp
My family and I went on a Sat night. We sat at an open table outside. Waited 15min for the waitress. No one took our order. We go inside to ask to order. Was told they'll take our order outside. Still no one came, but others who sat after us ordered and got their meals, except the Asian couple next to us who was there waaay before us and verbally said they were being ignored. A family next to us had had it and were trying to leave but were stopped to pay. Went inside again. Found the waitress eating nachos at the bar. She rudely dismissed me and told Me to go order outside. At this point we were sharing our table with another couple, who they then helped while I sat there, but I reminded them I was there 1st and the waiter left. Couple moved to the next table over and they were immediately helped. I sat another 20min. Asked for help from another waiter. He Took my order to the previous rude waitress and she came to clean my table. Said nothing and left. At this point all others who arrived after me ate and left. The Asian people next to Me were still there trying to pay their bill. Didn't get to try their infamous apple pie. We went to Papaneiland Cafe for their apple pie - delicious and awesome customer service and ambience. DON'TGO HERE - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO BETTER WINKEL 43.

Yelp
BEST APPEL TART IN AMSTERDAM!! Amazing and I wish I had more! There is indoor and outdoor seating but there was no more indoor so I sat outside! It wasn't too bad, a little rainy but the appel tart was so worth it! You order at your table when the server comes by and they're so friendly and nice! The appel tart was so good. It was warm, spiced, and had the perfect crust! Was not too sweet! This was my last meal in Amsterdam and I am so happy I walked to get it! Open late so you can get your appel tart fix after a night out!!

Yelp
If you are looking for dutch apple pie this is the place to go! I happed to walk on by & decided to give this place a try & I am happy I did! Be prepared to wait in a line at certain times as this is a popular destination for locals & tourists alike. After about 10 or so minutes we were seated in the back corner of the cafe. The server came over promptly & took our order. We ordered 2 apple pies, 1 hot chocolate & a cappuccino. The food & drinks came out quickly & we were very satisfied with the everything! Will definitely stop by again if I happen to be back in Amsterdam!

Yelp
Thought this place was just okay? Apple pie was mid and our server was nice but nothing to write home about.

Yelp
Two words, APPLE PIE! It's why I came here. Didn't even look at the menu. Came for the best apple pie ever, had it along with a glass of water and left. A little bit of a wait / line to get in, but honestly moved along quickly. Waitress was efficient and friendly. The Apple Pie and cream was amazing. So good. Worth coming and waiting in line. Inside is dark and intimate, perfect for a date night.

Yelp
Staff were not so friendly and welcoming. Took about 15 mins before I was greeted at the bar. Only came for the pie which was very dry and didn't taste fresh. Very underwhelming.

Yelp
Had to try Winkle 43 famous Dutch apple pie, so made a beeline. There was a line to get in, so we waited about 20 minutes to be seated outside. The wait for an indoor table was a much longer wait we were told. The pie was delicious, perfect apple to crust ratio. The crust had a great flavor. Highly recommend a slice of pie at Winkle 43.
