The Montonara pizza is really good. Nice vibe, music, and the staff were friendly. It offers take away and you can wait at their bar and enjoy a glass of beer!

Great location. Friendly happy cheerful staff . Great atmosphere with loads of music playing from the 1960's onwards. Decent selection of hot and cold food. Lots of different pizza to choose from. Rib-eye steak was excellent as were the ribs. All washed down with a cold pint of local beer reasonable prices. Would definitely eat here again.

This is my first ever bad review. We came here after a beautiful day in Queenstown. It's a nice little spot but the pizza was not only underwhelming but just unenjoyable. My friend apologized for choosing the restaurant and with two medium pizza costing almost $70 I won't be returning.

On our way in, there was a staff member giving away pizza samples and a voucher for a free side dish. The Montanara pizza didn't disappoint! And the Flaming Hot Pizza was a thumbs up for my spicy food loving husband. We appreciated the bottomless fizz option for the kids. Unfortunately the buffalo wings side dish lacked seasoning and flavour, seeming quite blah.

I had a Meat Feast pizza and regular chips. They were both very good, especially the pizza. I didn't have to wait too much and the waiter was nice and attentive. The place inside it's warm, but it can be a little loud for some people. I sat along the balcony with the street view, which was more quiet and cosy. If you wanna try good fresh pizzas I would recommend this place.

Came here for a very late lunch mid Jan 2025. The pizza and pasta were delicious! The large size pizza came with a complimentary bowl of chips (available during that hours). The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Very first time in here but already love it Winnies has been around for a long time, it's the go to pizza destination. We were seated straight away, orders were taken promptly. The pizza came after not too long and it was delicious! I would definitely recommend checking this out if you are in Queenstown.

Staff were very lovely once we were seated. Fair play to them as there seemed to be a function on the same time we were dinning so they did really well to accommodate (we booked ahead). Food was out in about 18-20mins, again with the event on and during busy hours that was really good. Noise level was deceptive since there was a group booking on the bar end (seemed like it anyways). Staff were very accommodating to us dining with our toddler (provided coloring in for her, also some kitchen scissor to cut up food). Food was very good, ribs were grand, bolognese was very good, 5/5 for food to price. Location is good not to far walk from parking and then to the lake for after dinner. 100% would recommend for those with families and will be returning in the future. A wee note, it did seem a tiny bit cramped but honestly the atmosphere was intimate anyways so not an issue.

Yelp
Excellent pizza! If you're American it's the only place we've found with fountain soda and refills so a plus for us. Service was average.

Nicole M.

Yelp
One of the best pizzas I've ever had in my life (and I'm from New York so that says a lot). Funny creative Signage and good chill vibes. Fast service. Loved it! 10/10 recommend the Montonara!

Yelp
So nice, we ate there twice. When researching 'must-try NZ Eats' (yelp, tripadvisor, & lonely planet), we kept getting referred to Winnie's and thought, 'do we really want takeaway pizza versus finding something 'special/fancy' but after perusing the menu, we quickly realized Winnie's was special. Their signature pizzas offered unique flavor combinations, most highlighting a NZ specialty- super hard to decide, we opted for 3 small pizzas to try variety. First visit, we tried: Moroccan Lamb- large chunks of well-marinated fresh NZ Lamb Rump, smothered with fresh zucchini thinly sliced & a creamy minted yoghurt Pescara-large green-lipped mussels, hearty prawns, flaky smoked salmon, and zesty pesto Tandoori Chicken- a work of art pizza, as the creamy curry sauce base is covered with massive amounts of well balanced toppings-a crispy papadum, & pour your own mango chutney (our favorite was the tandoori chicken, because the blend of flavors was unlike any specialty pizza we've ever had- the pop in the zest was irresistible.) Size-wise, three small pizzas was a good amount for the two of us sharing- there were so many toppings packed onto each pie two would have easily been a hearty meal, but after hiking all day (eating lightly) three hit the spot. The topping flavor combinations were what made the pies delicious, the crust was nothing special (I honestly think it may have been frozen pre-made pie crusts-super thin, not enough oven baked char), but overall very delicious, bringing us right back the next day. Day Two in Queenstown, we did attempt to obtain a special/fancy meal, but while trying to dine at one of the local seafood restaurants, we learned most places were either unexpectedly closed due to staffing shortages or required a reservation. So we decided why not go back to Winnie's making 'add-on' tweaks to the pies we liked..so we found ourselves back for round two- ordering a Tandoori Chicken adding lamb chunks..delicious enhancement! If we lived in Queenstown, I know I would run through the entire menu, trying every pizza to discover my favorite pie. Highly recommend for takeaway (grab a pie (or two) grab beer to go, and enjoy on the water)

Yelp
Viv was the best server ever and managed our crazy group of 25 so well :) I love Winnies!

Carolyn O.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about the pizza here. It's a casual place, perfect to kick back and have some comfort food. All their pizzas are wonderfully unique; I struggle picking between the options. My husband and I tried three different specialty options and each was incredible. This might just be my favorite pizza place now!

Greg E.

Yelp
If your coming from US it's low grade roller skating pizza. From Lombardis to princes and golden boy in San Fran this pie is equivalent to 7/11

Hannah C.

Yelp
I was waiting at the "please wait to be seated" sign for about 5 minutes and no one came up to help or seat me or ask if I needed anything. Thanks for nothing!

Lee D.

Yelp
We were jet lagged and hungry - not a good combination - and we wanted some quick and casual food. After wandering around Queenstown for about 20 minutes, we finally settled on Winnie's. Pizzas are offered in three sizes. There was a lunch special (Meat Feast) which suited my husband. Salami, beef, bacon, chorizo, caramelized onions, and aioli. He liked it! I ordered the Caprico (tomatoes, pesto, red onions, rock salt, and spring onions, and mushrooms, which I opted to omit). A bit heavy on the pesto but tasty with a crispy crust. Husband had a beer and I had a cider. Hit the spot. We were schooled on what happens when you are finished with your meal and wondering why your server has walked past your table a half dozen times with nary a glance in your direction. Turns out you need to go to the bar to ask for your check and pay! Oh well, lesson learned!

Diane W.

Yelp
Food: The pizzas had a crisp-type crust with very little 'chew' (not our favorite). They had some interesting choices of toppings. We tried the Tri Factor (steak, bacon, mushrooms, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce) and Montonara (chicken, sundried tomatoes, brie, spring onions, sweet chili sauce, pistachio sour cream). They were very filling. Service: On the slow side, even though the restaurant was not busy Ambiance: Large rustic space. Casual.

Kirsten M.

Yelp
Love that this joint is a pizza place that turns into a club/bar. My friend and I were roadtripping through New Zealand and ended up at Winnie's for our last night in Queenstown. We splurged a bit to say the least and split the seafood pizza (blanking on the actual name), arancini balls, and chips. Seafood pizza: Pretty darn fishy tbh. And I found the smoked salmon to be really salty. Would not recommend. Arancini balls: Pretty average, the risotto could have been a bit creamier. Chips: Can't go wrong. It was a huge portion size and I really liked the condiments it came with. In all this place has a great vibe, and free WiFi, but the service was just okay. Would come back for a night out, but the food was too pricey imo.

Joanna R.

Yelp
So perhaps this place is a little touristy and caters to a younger demographic, but we certainly had a great time! It can get a little loud in here so know what to expect. Unlike some other places we will not mention, cough cough Domino's, the pizza here is GOOD. Their signature pizza, the Montonara, is absolutely scrumptious and you will not regret ordering it. Their BBQ chicken version is also pretty great. I will say that the garlic bread is more like a garlic and cheese pizza and we found that odd, but we ate it anyway as it didn't taste bad. Nice ladies with great service here, as well as big ol' beers that are cold, tasty, and not super pricey. SALUD, MUCHACHOS!

Alex M.

Yelp
This restaurant offers free WiFi which is ideal for international tourists, like myself. I had a single pizza and it was delicious. The staff was very attentive and friendly and my food came out quickly. I also had a large class of one of New Zealand's famous Pinot noir's, it did feel a little pricey but I finished everything so it seemed to be worth it! Great casual spot for lunch or dinner if you're in the area. Located right in the center of Queenstown!

Christine R.

Yelp
I liked the vibe at Winnies. It's popular so we had to sit in the bar area for 25 mins before being seated. It went quick though with the cool decor to look at and the music. The pizzas are really good and with a large pizza you can choose half & half if you want. We had 2 large pizzas between 4 of us and it was just right. My fave was the meat feast, and we also had bbq chicken & americana.

Boy H.

Yelp
We stopped in for pizza. Pretty neat to eat upstairs on the balcony... A couple of draft beer choices; however, no IPA's at the time of our dining. Therefore, this left us wanting for more. In regards to the pizza, I have to say that I liked the toppings--not super memorable, but not bad either. Two issues I had [basically, with all the pizzas we tried in Queenstown] is that the crust--seemingly not hand tossed but rather frozen(?)--is super thin and more like eating a saltine cracker crust, i.e., no breadiness, not doughy. And then, the sauce is not tomato-y, nor zesty. In fact, there seemed to be little if any sauce on the pizza. I hate to beat them up too bad for this, especially since the other three pizzerias we ate at had the same issue. Therefore, it may be a NZ thing, or at least a Queenstown thing. Otherwise, it was pretty 'good'.

Naina S.

Yelp
The pizza here was spectacular!!! It was the first place we tried in Queenstown food-wise. They have many different pizza flavors and options. I definitely recommend you stop and grab a slice here. I was so hungry I didn't get a chance to snap any pictures.

Kathleen P.

Yelp
Their brownie is super dry and not worth my $14.50. Did not taste fresh and wasn't warm when it came out but I asked them to reheat it after I took a couple bites and finished the small scoop of ice cream and they gave it back to me a lot warmer with a fresh scoop and replated which I appreciated. My friends said the pizza was very good though. Super friendly staff and free WiFi!

Vy B.

Yelp
Interesting and unique pizzas. We sat on the patio that overlooked The Mall which was a nice place to people watch. The pizza we ordered had brie which at the time sounded good on the menu but in reality was a lot of cheese. Overall the pizza was a bit heavy but it was lunchtime and we were hungry and it did the job.

Suzee Q.

Yelp
Appetizer was Skinny Dips, basically cheese slices with toppings. It was tasty. Entrees were the Montonara pizza, NZ mushroom tagliatelle pasta, fish and chips. We all thought the pizza did not live up to the hype. My fish was over-fried on some edges, but otherwise okay. The pasta was good but heavy with a cream sauce. Service was friendly. The hostess actually waited on us as the waitress for our table was slammed!

Rachel J.

Yelp
Great variety of the bar food type - yummy looking pizzas (I didn't try them, but seriously, if looks could clog arteries..), pastas, and staples like nachos and garlic bread. The place was packed but service was fairly consistent and the food was great! This is definitely a place I'd visit again. Edited to add - the atmosphere is a little loud (bar-like) but the dining room is cosy and boasts a gas fireplace that is perfect for chilly winter evenings!

Guo J.

Yelp
the dancing experience is marvelous, fabulous, great music and lots of young people. it is crazy nightwith the great music and I enjoy the dancing.

Megan B.

Yelp
This place is loud and a bit rowdy with good beer options and great pizza. We chose it based on pictures of crispy, thin-crust wood-fired pizza and were not disappointed. We sat on the balcony which was breezy but allowed for some good people watching. I had a pizza with a pistachio sour cream in the middle, toppings were chicken and sundried tomato I believe, and it was delicious! Service was a bit rushed but understandable as it was a busy night. Solid pizza joint in Queenstown.

Courtney R.

Yelp
We had so much fun at Winnies. I was craving some pizza after spending four days eating freeze dried food on the Milford Track, and so the Winnies sign was like the answer to our prayers. Their pizza was the most unique I have ever seen. All sorts of crazy combos- this needs to be a thing in the US. We ordered an embarrassing amount of food- two medium pizzas, pizza bread (which is not breadsticks but an actual pizza with a light layer of cheese & garlic- we had no idea) and drinks. The pizzas were fantastic. I had one with chicken, brie cheese, onions and sweet chili sauce. My husband had the Mexican pizza and raved similarly. The drink selection was good, though I wish they had a few more NZ ciders on their list. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and we loved our spot on the outdoor patio (with a heat lamp) where we could people watch on the Mall. And the best part- they were showing ESPN on the big screens! Absolutely had a blast here and would recommend to anyone needing some unique comfort food and cold beers.

Wayne F.

Yelp
Service was excellent and food was superb. Loved the spaghetti bolognese. As good as any dish I've had in the USA.

Anu M.

Yelp
My husband and i came here on a Saturday night for pizza. Just like the town center, this place was crowded and lively at 7.30. We got seated at the bar while waiting for a table. When our table was ready, our waitress escorted us to our table, gave us the menu and highly recommended the Montonara pizza. This was our first time at Winnie's, and we ended up ordering the Montonara pizza. Within a few minutes, the pizza was served fresh from the oven. The outer crust was crispy. The combination of the toppings were fab, with a generous dollop of cream cheese in the middle. The pizza had the right amount of spice and sweetness, and with the generous toppings, a medium sized pizza was more than enough for our hungry stomachs. Great service. Fab pizzas. Highly recommend!

Mitch E.

Yelp
Excellent pizza on the patio. Great service. I loved the atmosphere, too. I would recommend this place!!

Sarah C.

Yelp
Their tandoori pizza is awesome and they are more than happy to send the leftovers home with you! Their hot sauce chicken wings are the bomb too!!!

Ashley W.

Yelp
My friend and I were told we should check out Winnie's while we were in Queenstown, and I am so thankful we did! This is probably one of my top 3 all time favorite pizza places, beating out everywhere in Chicago and NY I've been to, and they know a thing or two about pizza. One pizza would have easily filled my friend and I, but why have one pizza when you can have two? You guys know what I mean. We ordered a Montonara and a Thai Chicken, mediums of each. I'd like to say we spent the whole day snowboarding and earned that pizza, but in reality we were just super hungry. I think we had hiked the Robroy Glacier that day, so that totally justifies it. I looooved the Montonara. The pistachio sour cream was different, in the most delicious way. I'm going back to Queenstown (to actually snowboard and earn a pizza this time), and I will definitely be getting this again. We each had a beer, and I don't remember anything standout about the menu or prices. Probably because I went into immediate food euphoria coma. In our defence, we had enough for plenty of leftovers the next day. If you can only have one meal in Queenstown, skip Fergburger and go straight to Winnie's, order the Montanara, and tell them Ashley sent you. They will have no idea what you mean, but the pizza will still be delicious.

Karn N.

Yelp
I'm so glad we found this place for our post marathon dinner. The pizzas were no too thin not too chunky - it was just right. The flavours were amazing and the service was the friendliest we saw in the whole of Q'town We will be back !

Julie C.

Yelp
I'm from NYC and I can be really picky with my pizza if anyone tries to claim NYC style. But Winnies was actually really good! I think the flavors are on point and they make AMAZING different toppings for pizza! They also make a really really delicious salad. It was super crowded when we went, but totally worth it. Tried an assortment of pizzas including: Zucha - THIS WAS BY FAR MY FAVORITE. BBQ Chicken Meat Feast Luigi's Italian Caprico Everything was really good, but the zucha was my favorite I don't know why, maybe cause of the garlic? I have no clue, my mouth waters just thinking about it though. I also think the fact that they use pumpkin on it makes it even more awesome. Definitely worth a try for anyone in Queenstown.

Sean C.

Yelp
Of the three pizza places I had in Queenstown, this is the best of 'em. This is a generous toppings gourmet pizza bar, with seriously good beer and yet family friendly for teens and up, and there's a roaring sports TV in the background somewhere. Of the multiple pizzas I had, I liked the "Trifecta" best, three different kinds of farm-raised meat but don't count out their hearty veggies pies. The doughy crust is numero uno in my book. Subtle note: the pizza across the way in the plaza was the worst pizza, so really, choose "Winnies." #newzealand

Eddie T.

Yelp
Have been here many times over the past 10 years when down this way and still it stays of the same standard if not better. Always busy which i would expect, the atmosphere is good, the service is outstanding even when they are busy, being quick, friendly and efficient. And of course the pizza is so good, we particularly love their garlic bread. Top marks for every aspect of this place. Highly recommend to anyone , if not for a pizza then even just for a drink or game of pool. I have spent many nights in the past doing just that. Well done Winnies...keep it up!!!

Alexander T.

Yelp
Had an amazing time at winnies, Sophie m was our bartender and she was awesome, definitely coming back!!! Deserves a pay rise would of left early if she's was not so good at her job great service!

Crops To Cuisine ..

Yelp
Good, casual atmosphere. Pizza was mediocre at best---the dough tastes like pizzas you can find in the freezer aisle. The bread with garlic butter and tossed salad were decent (though the salad claimed to have avocados and not one was found).

Holli O.

Yelp
Having eaten a lot of pizza in life, I wouldn't say I'm an expert in pizza, just very experienced We went to Winnie's on recommendation for the fact that they have an open air seating area that you can see the stars at night, so we went in with the idea of that- and left with a full belly of really good pizza. You can get everything from personal size to large and if you want half and half you have to order the large at pay an additional $3. We had half of the American (pepperoni and cheese) and half meat lovers and both halves were fantastic. I like the plainer side of food so my simple pepperoni was great and my husband really enjoyed the meat lovers. It's September and cold at night so I had a mulled wine and my husband had the Winnie's Ale. Mulled wine was fantastic and the beer wasn't too bad either. The atmosphere was really cool, staff was really helpful and it was packed by the time we left. Added bonus- they have high chairs! Which is a new requirement for us traveling around with our 8 month old son. Good vibes, cool atmosphere and really good food.

Kona M.

Yelp
Made an account just to post this. I lost my glasses while dancing and the bouncers kicked me out. My mate drank water and got kicked out. Another mate was standing still and, big surprise, he got kicked out. If you are looking for a good time, please walk past this place. The music sucks even worse than the bouncers. Any positive reviews are probably by promoters, so please ignore them.

Lauren T.

Yelp
Great place to meet people. Fun little bar with a good beers and a great selection of pizzas. Many vegetarian and gluten free options.

Steve A.

Yelp
This place is great. Their known for the pizza but we were tired of pizza so can't speak to that but the Lamb burger, chicken burger, nachos and spaghetti were all very good. Great service and the nice vibe with warm upstairs atmosphere and good music.

Irwin C.

Yelp
We asked our hotel receptionist for a good local pizza place to go to. This was one of two places she suggested (the other was Fat Badger). We tried Winnie's. We had a large pizza, half Moroccan, half Montanegro (?). Both were really good, but I especially liked the Moroccan side. Must suggest it. We dined on the upstairs patio, which fortunately had heaters as it was a little chilly outside. Good way to people watch. This thin crust made it relatively easy to finish the whole thing. We'd go back there.

Sandra H.

Yelp
Winnie's proved to be a welcome warm restaurant for a family dinner on a very busy Good Friday evening. Even though it seemed extremely frenetic, the staff were welcoming and took care to see us served quickly with delicious pizza and wines. Kids enjoyed a children's menu and activities.

David L.

Yelp
We turned up earlyish for dinner on a busy summer Friday and were seated straight away. Service was good and attentive, our pizzas and desserts were great, and it was good to have the option of sitting outside on the deck or inside in a booth. Both our kids (11 & 12) were happy as the food was quick and they had the option of the kids menu (which one took, the other went for the pizza). We've been here before and would come back again.

Marie V.

Yelp
Good food , good customer service , nice ambiance . Love it ! keep up the good work .. price is reasonable

Corinne P.

Yelp
Two pizza L and M is enough for a family of four. Loved the Peking pizza. Sit on the balcony in warm weather for a view of the gondola up to the top of Queenstown.

Prajwal N Kiri B.

Yelp
The vegetarian pizza and the mushroom pasta are fantastic. The prices could be a tiny bit lower, but then again, its good gourmet pizza in Queenstown... The waitstaff are friendly and the service is great!

Carly S.

Yelp
Delicious! I had the Brie pizza and it was great and filling. They also turn into a fun bar at night.

Rob M.

Yelp
Great service and heavily loaded pizzas. Very tasty and not hard on the pocket book. Beer choices are lacking though

Hey M.

Yelp
We tried Winnies on a cold Saturday night, partly because I had read raving reviews about their pizza and partly because I had an entertainment book voucher about to expire. The service was attentive, the atmosphere lively and warm, the beer battered fries crunchy enough, but the pizza was disappointing. For the price we paid, $28 for a medium pizza and $36 for a large one I was expecting much more; instead it was your average pizza overloaded with toppings, not with a thin and crispy base but not soft and thick either. If you are looking for a true Italian style pizza, do not go to Winnies. If you are looking for a pricey doughy base with lots of toppings Winnies may be the answer to your search

Jonathan P.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner on our first night in Queenstown after an epic day of driving. The pizza is super unique, and great. I'd just go with a recommendation from the fantastic staff (we had Ginger Holly). No matter how out there the pizza sounds just order it as is and trust the combination.
