20 Best Bars in Hong Kong

"The staff is a major selling point at this neighborhood spot—they’re hilarious and playful, often initiating drinking games and erecting giant Jenga blocks outside the bar, so passersby can have a go. And with coffee by day and cocktails by night, they've got you covered around the clock. Expect a low-key mix of young professionals, who, thanks to the bar’s bijou floor plan, regularly spill out onto the sidewalk." - Kate Springer

Google
Food wasn't great as the ham and cheese sandwich was rock hard and the chicken caesar wrap was warm and cold at different parts of the wrap. Coffee was also unremarkable. Guy at the counter wasn't all too friendly either. You can find a lot of more cafes in the area with comfortable seating and better everything overall. Pass for A next visit. And if you look at an earlier review the owner's reply about a customer's comment is simply cocky. They do serve a lemon cake, albeit not poppyseed. No need to distract and insinuate the customer was at a different location while side-stepping the quality issue. I guess the staff attitude rubs off from the boss.

Google
It is a small coffee shop in an old residential district. There are a few windows facing the alley. It is great to grab a cup of coffee and run. The coffee was not bad though.

Google
Had our morning coffee there today and just stumbled in as we were a bit to early for our trip to Lantau. The cappuccino was presented and tasted excellent. I also had a plain croissant, which was top-notch as well. We will be there for breakfast tomorrow again.

Google
I recently revisited after more than a year, hoping for a better experience. While I recognize that the cake I tried was your lemon poppy seed cake from a previous visit, I found it to be lacking in flavor and it contributed to a less favorable impression overall. Unfortunately, my visit was disappointing once again. I've noticed that many other reviews mention the poor attitude of the staff, which seems to be a consistent issue. I understand that training staff can be challenging, it shouldn’t take extensive training to treat customers with basic kindness and respect. A warm greeting can significantly enhance the overall experience, and I believe this is an area that needs attention. There are many other coffee shops in the area with friendly and welcoming staff, which makes it hard to justify returning here. I hope Winston’s can work on creating a more inviting atmosphere for their customers.

It’s my first visit to Winston’s and truly enjoyed it. The barista recommended the limited edition espresso martini cookie to go with my nutty blend black coffee - which was perfect! She was also very sweet, polite and attentive, and made sure I sat at a comfortable spot. Will definitely drop by again when I visit Sai Ying Pun next time :)

I kept passing by this cafe when exiting the MTR station and decided to stop by as my last spot in Hong Kong. It was empty when I entered but quickly filled up within thirty minutes of being there. It is a narrow spot, but there are bar seats that wrap around the perimeter. I tried the Iced Spanish Latte (HKD $52). It tasted the same as any other coffee, but I am not a big coffee drinker, so take that with a grain of salt. This drink is probably better suited hot since the condensed milk did not dissolve well. The servers seemed chill and spoke English.

Google
Coffee was good, they offer both hot and cold beverages. Coffee prices in HK are in general higher than in Western Europe, and this place offers to our opinion average prices. They also serve food (sweet and salty), which, however, was mediocre only, but cannot be highly recommended (thus four stars instead of five stars). If you are looking for a quick breakfast with a coffee and a muffin, this is the place to go though. - Excellent coffee, food average

Yelp
Roasted: decided to try some local coffee while in Hong Kong and came across Winston's Coffee. This place did not disappoint at all. Cute little coffee shop in Sheung Wen. It has a very small inside with a handful of seats and a few barstools our front. Very simple layout but clean. They had a nice variety of beverages and pastries as well. The baristas were very nice and were engaging with regulars as well. They offered us for here cups since we were staying which was great to see. We sat outside on the barstools and they brought our drinks to us. The drinks came on nice plates with a spoon and small biscotti - nice little touch. No straws at this place. My mocha was not only beautiful with a pretty floret on it - the mocha was absolutely delicious. Really enjoyed this place and would definitely seek them out for another cup. Unroasted: this place is amazing! Love the small corner location. Great seating in the front and inside. Staff was super friendly and even asked if it was for here. The latte was one of the best I have ever had. The latte art was on point. Great job by this fantastic shop! I would say it's a must. It deserves the 5 star we gave it.

Yelp
Stopped by Winstons Coffee on my way to the subway station right next door. I was craving some cold brew coffee so I decided to stop here and rest; walking around HK all day is tiring. The cold brew here tasted bitter compared to other spots I've had. It's a small coffee shop so be prepared to stand or just enjoy your drink outside. I did want to do some work/research while I was here but their sitting area is limited and it's small enough for only a laptop. I didn't try the food here but maybe I'll try it next time I'm in HK visiting relatives.

Yelp
I had a decent latte at Winston Coffee. The microfoam on top was not perfect and I could taste bitterness within most of the latte. On the other hand, the texture was pretty good for the most part: smooth and rich. Moreover, it came with a pistachio biscuit, which was delicious. It was definitely not the best latte I had in Hong Kong but also not bad. I also ordered an avocado egg toast. It was solid but did not blow me away. Although Winston Coffee takes credit card, it is a 200 HKD limit so definitely have cash on hand. If you are visiting and planning a trip to Hong Kong and looking for recommendations (including a list of quality coffee shops), feel free to message me for my itinerary. You can also find the electronic copy through the link my profile.

Yelp
For a tourist with a coffee addiction, this is the treasure of Sai Ying Pun. The cold brew comes from a London roaster, All Press, and is strong enough to cure jet lags. One bottle of cold brew has the same amount of caffeine as four shots of espresso! Located right outside the entrance of the A2 exit from the MTR station, this small little coffee spot comes with very helpful and friendly baristas that will make you the perfect coffee drink you want.

Yelp
Awesome. Super small coffee shop with a surprisingly large selection and great baristas and coffee shop guys. This place will make expats and tourists feel at home, in a good way. We got: - Bacon egg sandwich. Perfect. Not too much bread, lovely egg - Their showcase apple almond tart. Loved that it was rich without being heavy, sweet without sugar - Gluten free coconut protein ball. Good, nothing stellar - Cold brew coffee. Awesome! Just a great experience. These guys have coffee shop operations down and an unique food selection. Would definitely make this my daily breakfast if I lived here!

Yelp
Great little coffee shop with great coffee and great music. Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood

Yelp
A small coffee nook off the main roads (and happy that is the case). Keeps with the theme of a tranquil vibe that it oozes. Besides being greeted with some 70s and 80s music throwbacks once you step in, baristas were kind and knowledgeable of the desserts du jour and patient while I browsed through the selection and inquired about them all. A simple long black and a chocolate whiskey cake dipped in glitter was the perfect start to my day. Definitely coming back to try other specialty drinks!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised at the hipstery yet welcoming vibe of this place. The Art Deco marquis on the outside and the people here make for a welcoming environment--Tunny is the best and I have heard he makes a killer cocktail. I had an iced latte and a protein toast with peanut butter and banana a la Elvis. I would've sworn that the latte had sugar in it but it was the coffee-it had a great caramelly sweetness but was still strong enough to go up against my Monday morning (er, afternoon) weekend overhang. My only complaint is that it's not really a place one can get cozy. It's small and the only seating available are utilitarian back-obliterating wooden stools (ouch).

Cee C.

Yelp
Winstons definitely my most favourite coffee shop in Hong Kong. It's not just the coffee, but the whole vibe. That includes the atmosphere, seating and the views. I always feel that I'm abroad and no longer in Hong Kong whenever I step into this shop. Makes me reminisce my time living abroad. Reminded me of the chill time at many cafes that I enjoyed in the past in other countries. Nevertheless I guess I should talk a bit about their coffee. I tried affogato and flat white at Winstons coffee. Both are very decent. All comes with a piece of biscotti and tap water without asking. Staff are always nice and friendly.

Yelp
I can die for their piccolo. The staff is just having fun here. So are their guests. No rules or make your own rules. Old school tapes for bills, no paper. Breathtaking pastry with seasonal twist, you don't realise you are in hk when you sip there!

Yelp
Small and charming with a hipster vibe. It's a nice little piece of home that I found in HK during our trip.

Yelp
Love how the HK scene has (finally!) exploded with good coffee. And this spot is on my top 3. Visiting from NYC I had a chance to finally try their hole in the wall spot in Sheung Wan, that I'd been following (aka Instagram stalking ha!) for a while. The flat whites are awesome (and so is the little biscotti that comes with it). Didn't have time to try much else but definitely on my to-return list for next time. Thanks guys!

Yelp
Great neighbourhood coffee shop, the place is always packed during the weekend. The location is perfect right next to Sai Ying Pun MTR station. There is outdoor seating and also a water bowl for dogs, how thoughtful! The coffee is great, I always go for their flat white. Service is always friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Just an overall cool place. Small, nearly always crowded. Friendly staff. Very hipster. It is a must for your instagram as you roll through Sai Ying Pun. I had a kombucha cocktail and it was delish, but I lost at Toss the Boss, which made me sad. I played Cards Against Humanity by myself in the corner and was not sad about it. I haven't tried any of the food yet, but I intend to.

Yelp
An Australian Based Coffee Shop located in Sai Ying Pun. Wut? o_O. Yes, its true. I've made multiple visits to this shop and although it might not be as "Grandeur" or has as many other brewing options compared to other coffee shops I've visited, this might still be my favorite store in HK. Pros: Got the Flat White once, a piccolo (similar to a cortado for my west coast homies), and also a latte in the three times I've visited. Every one of them were a true delight. My favorite has got to be the Flat White as they get their micro foam actually right. A lot of other places just think of a flat white as a small latte thus adjusting the milk and espresso ratio but true flat white takes the foam of the milk in to account as well. These guys definitely knows what sup. Close to my house so its super convenient. Its an Australian coffee shop so it doesn't really have that hong kong coffee shop vibe. What I mean is that most store in HK serve food and other stuff because rent here is ridiculous and most coffee shops seem more like restaurants than actual coffee shops. Can't really blame them, they have to increase margins somehow with these goliath rents. But Winstons is more like a typical coffee shops in the US or in this case, in Australia. The Winstons environment is more chill, you don't get asked to be seated right away when you enter the store, but rather you can actually check out the menu first, then order, and THEN sit down. I prefer this way because it doesn't seem like you are obligated to order something versus sitting down and being handed the menu and glasses of water. Super close to Sai Ying Pun Subway stop. Cons: Wish they would have pour over since that's my prefer method of brewing, but I can understand/respect that they stick to what they feel its best and do what they do best. They definitely make full usage out of their La Marzocco. Sadly the outdoor space that they used to have has now been shut down by the city :( Not really sure what happened. Overall this is my go to shop on days that I'm not exploring other parts of HK. Born in Sai Wan, Winstons brings that home feeling whenever I walk into the store.

Yelp
This fantastic, small shop was exactly what I needed today. I got an expertly made latte served by friendly people in a space that was inviting and relaxed. They make their own cold brew coffee and other treats. Free Wi-Fi, too.

Yelp
I like this place very much! It is janky and knows what it's about. The most curious thing to me, about Winstons, is that although it is NOT well-configured for the only thing I cover in my reviews of coffee shops, really, i.e., Is this a good place to sit and get work done? I still really like it and find that it IS a good place to do that, and I find--based on observation of the other clientele--that I'm not alone. The wrinkle is that the space is just not well laid out for this! It's a narrow shop running back off of the street like a railroad apartment. It has a shallow counter along the right side, the opposite side from the ACTUAL counter where they sell you things and behind which there's a coffee-machine, etc. And this shallow counter (the one on the right side) really is not a sturdy place to put a laptop; further, you sit perched on these funny little stool-type chairs. I guess "stools", then -- not stool-type chairs. They're stools. AND YET IT ALL WORKS. It is a VERY nice place to sit and work, even though the music has words and it's not "comfortable"...it's comfortable. I like it. I like sitting here. I'd also never had a "tall black" and I'm not 100% sure it's that different from an Americano (the barista one time was clear that they were different; the barista another time said "it's an Americano") but I really like Winstons tall-black, it's dark strong and delicious, and the little biscotti they serve it with works. Two thumbs up. Would awkwardly perch on stool working again, happily.

Yelp
This place is a hipster's dream. They've got "energy balls" which are delicious, paninis, coffee, pastries, etc, all tucked away on a side street near the heart of K-Town. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the wifi is speedy - which was important for someone who wanted to park there and get some work done for the day!

Yelp
Awesome coffee shop, great atmosphere. Excellent haven for those looking for a proper espresso beverage in Hong Kong. This place became my morning ritual.

Yelp
Lovely little coffee shop. The cappuccino was tasty as was the avocado cheese and pesto panini. Perfect place to drop in and get a perfectly portioned snack

Yelp
absurdly cute little corner kiwi run coffee/cocktail spot right on queen's road west in Sai Ying Pun. was lucky to stumble in to this place the morning after i arrived a few months ago. literally right next to the SYP mtr entrance so it's super convenient and like all Kiwi coffee spots, the latte's and flat whites are superb! also dropped by for a drink one evening and the barrel aged negronis are full of class. lovely spot in a bustling area.
