Winterplace Ski Resort

We had a great time. I would recommend not to go during MLK weekend especially if it’s your first trip. The easy slopes at the very beginning get very congested as many church groups and other large groups are also there for the weekend. If you’ve never been before, it’s quite a bit overwhelming once you get inside. We got checked and there was no one to guide us on what to do next. There were no signs for ski boots vs snowboard boots. There wasn’t a flow for what to do next, you just walked around till you figured it out. The only helpful associate inside was the guy getting forms signed before you get your skis/boards. The young boys getting equipment for people were having a great time cutting up with each other but not helping the customers. I think a bit more direction for first timers would have been very beneficial. In the mornings the snow was fine but quickly became pretty icy. I definitely recommend taking a lesson! Overall, we had a good time. We enjoyed tubing more than snowboarding. It wasn’t nearly as crowded and the people working in the tubing area were very kind, helpful, and kept things flowing smoothly.

Our family purchased tickets online for snow tubing for the 3:00-5:45 slot the day after Christmas. We had no traveling issues driving from NC. The weather was perfect. The staff are amazing, with a seamless check-in and are very helpful otherwise on the slopes. There were about 10 slopes and the wait was minimal. There is also a lodge with snacks, food and drinks to relax in. We will definitely be going back again.

We had a wonderful family experience at Winterplace Ski Resort and would highly recommend it for families with children. We spent two full days skiing and booked private family lessons for our two kids, ages 10 and 11. The instructors were excellent, very patient, encouraging, and great at teaching our kids at their individual levels. They made learning fun while also building confidence and safety on the slopes. Winterplace felt welcoming and well-organized, which made the experience stress-free for us as parents. The terrain was perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers, and our kids made noticeable progress over just two days. It was rewarding to see them gain confidence and truly enjoy the skiing experience. Also, the tubing is a MUST! Overall, Winterplace Ski Resort delivered a memorable family getaway. The private lessons were absolutely worth it, and we left with great memories and kids who are excited to ski again. We look forward to coming back.

My Florida kids have never seen snow and wanted to try skiing. My husband is the only one with ski and snowboard experience. We drove from Florida and stayed in the condos at the resort. We had a private family lesson with Jason. He was an excellent instructor for our family. My kids spent 3 days skiing all of the green trails and even a blue trail. It was a great trip! I’m sure we will be back.

Winterplace Ski Resort is a fantastic, family-friendly destination that truly prioritizes safety and fun. The staff was welcoming, and the entire experience was smooth and well organized. Special thanks to Joey, the driver who took us back and forth to the Tubbing area, he was kind, professional, and made transportation easy and stress-free. Huge appreciation to Noah, the snowboard instructor “Ski-wee”, whose patience and encouragement helped our 6-year-old not only learn but genuinely love snowboarding. He made the experience fun and unforgettable for our child. We highly recommend Winterplace for families and can’t wait to return!

Excellent place for all age group. Must visit for wi ter activities like skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing. Excellent service. Very well maintained place.

I stayed in 541 Winterplace Dr at the resort for a trip with my fraternity brothers. We were all super excited to have a good time but when we walked in we were met with disgusting walls and rusted doors. I don’t even want to get into what the laundry room looks like but I will upload photos. The mattresses were super dirty and the ac was all the way down to 47. Keep in mind it’s November so we are freezing. It takes hours for the heat to go up, and the floors are sticky and rugs have mysterious stains. There’s holes in the walls too. One of the bathrooms had water flooded onto the floor when we got there which is completely unsanitary. Also on floor 2 in the room with its own bathroom there is a nest of spiders and they’re sitting on the top of the bathroom. Nobody wants to go in there and it’s disgusting. I’m not sure why it’s like this because the other cabin we have is so nice. This one is quite literally an abomination and outrageously disgusting. Please do not come here to stay as I feel Ive gotten sick because of just being here along with others. My whole party is leaving a day early because of this. It feels like there is black mold in here because it’s that disgusting.

Sooooo much fun!! Take the family and go! $85 for 2 to tube for close to 3 hours. Tons of people skiing. Beautiful area to visit!

Great place with 28ish trails. The rental process was fairly easy and returning them was easy as well. There are lockers and various sizes that you could rent by the day and the ski lodge is fairly large. There is a cafe with burgers, pizza, chicken tenders or you can bring your own food. I was there Friday and Saturday night, the bar had a band playing both nights, and the prices of the beer were relatively reasonable.

Highly recommend- we had so much fun! Went snow tubing and can't wait to go back to ski! Super nice staff in the shop and on the slopes, clean place, great experience. Shuttle service from parking lot included. Definitely going back ASAP!

overall, the experience was pretty horrible. Some of the suggestions may not apply if the temperature is above 74 and they're not blowing. First off the blowers are too low. You are completely covered in ice whole entire clothes. You're like a big ice snowman at the end. goggles don't help. skiing to the top is a very painful process to get over to the ski lift from the middle of the mountain down to the bottom or the snow tubing part is. The cafeteria food was pretty bad. Got a hamburger that didn't taste good at all, even the chees, couldn't even taste it. The cafeteria staff was nice. The rental ski section is OK no issues or problems. They're very unlimited in their inventory for snowboarding. We got up there and both pairs of shoes were out. Had to go up two sizes and down one size. The terrain was very icy plus with the blowers being so low, we had pull-ups of fake ice that caused us to slow down during the slopes. You could not see anyway.

We ordered our lift tickets in advance for Monday and Tuesday. The staff let us pick up our gear Sunday, after 7 pm. This saved so much time!!! Our crew was ready to hit the slopes first thing Monday. Our youngest, age 7, had an absolute blast at ski school on Monday. I highly recommend!!! This was his second time skiing and he came out of their ski school with no fear and great confidence. The staff was friendly and made the experience a memorable one for the kids!!! Well worth every penny!!!! Oldest son and hubby thought they had great slopes, easy to challenging. No complaints from them. Our oldest will usually want to stay til closing and he was exhausted by day two. Hubby said they had a good variety in types of slopes and skill levels. Hubby also said their bunny slope was perfect for our 7 year old before hitting the bigger slopes. If ordering a beer at the bar the wait is slow. Bar service was consistently slow, despite its simplicity. But, a cold beer is worth the wait; I guess. Staff seemed engaging and aware of what's going. Our youngest got his skis crossed and "fell" when the lift came around (Mom wasn't there!!!) and the staff safely ensured he made it on the lift and met Dad/brother at the top. This is what kept my husband from getting the wrath of Angry Momma Bear!!!! Both of our kids requested to go back next year!

A small resort but well run, easy to get into and out if during snow dumps. Great place for kids to learn to ski.

Such a disappointment. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. We spent $230 for 2 days plus spending money on our hotel and 5 hours in the car for the saddest ski "resort" ever. My friend and I are good skiers and usually do blue runs but it was impossible to ski enjoyably. We get going on a holiday weekend and it being busy, but it was clear that beginners were on these runs and, they were crashing into people! We witnessed many people going fully throttle down a slope and crashing into people. Most of the green runs were closed which resulted in beginners doing blue runs and not being equipped for that level. The slopes were very narrow and VERY ICEY. No powder whatsoever. Additionally, we witness many people getting injured and getting picked up by medics in the stretcher. Getting ski rentals and boots were a nightmare. This whole experience was waiting in lines. It took us 45 min to an hour. Not to mention the level of uncleanliness of the locker room and bathroom. The only thing semi good thing about this experience was the shuttle that was available at the Mountain House "lodge" that took you back to the main "lodge" so we didn't have to go on another run. We went to the information desk to inquire about getting a refund since we prepaid for a 2 day lift ticket due to the slope conditions and they just shook their heads no. Didn't even do us the courtesy of verbally turning us down, just shook their heads. Very rude and unprofessional. Also, we quite literally had an employee in the boot rental area say to us that this resort is a scam. Safe to say we will not be going back.

Great trails here at Winterplace. Even without much snow there is still plenty of slopes to enjoy. There are only a couple lifts that split the mountain into two. This is a great place for beginners

My very first snowboarding trip! We happened to go on MLK weekend, which was the busiest weekend possible. There were church groups everyWhere, which made it challenging to learn to snowboard and without smacking into someone. They were sold out of private lessons, so I opted for a group lesson. The beginning was very disorganized, but they finally broke our group into smaller groups and I was paired with an instructor, Jonathan. He did his best to give us personalized attention, and was very helpful. I would suggest breaking into even smaller groups, maybe 5 people instead of 7? Jonathan tried his best to speak up enough so everyone could hear him. There were so many people on the bunny hill that it was really challenging. The hills themselves are great. It was rainy and slushy by the end of our first day, but it was still just fine. Actually, that made the falls hurt a bit less. On the second day, we had gotten a bit of snow, and they resort also created a bunch of snow. The snowboarding conditions were WAY better the second day! There were still just as many people, but it was easier to avoid them with the right kind of snow. They were intermittently shutting down courses to make more snow - which sometimes forced you to take a more challenging slope than you expected. Finally, when snowboarding for the whole day, I truly wish the cafe options were better. The cafes are licensed restaurants, so no outside food is allowed in. I would liken the options to public high school cafeteria food. Frozen curly fries, cheese burgers that are somehow formed into a weird square.... all things I'd never eat if I weren't trapped somewhere I'm not allowed to bring my own food. Next time I will definitely bring my own snacks and eat them while in the chair lift or something. Overall, it was a really fun exper

I have to say first impressions were not good. All the employees are teenagers and most did not know what they were doing. Our cashier didn't give us the clips for our lift tickets, then she didn't give us our card back and was staring at us like we were crazy for standing there. Then the shoe guys, (2 different ones) gave both my husband and brother the wrong size. When my husband pointed it out that he was an 11 and they gave him a 10, they then brought our another pair size 10. Really? Just pay attention, that's your one job! My shoe guy was very nice and helpful on the other hand. But when I went to pick up my snowboard that guy forgot to give me a helmet also so I had to go back. Since it was our first time snowboarding we decided to purchase a beginners lesson course. What a waste of money!! You could tell our instructor was a teenager just making a paycheck and not very helpful. First thing he told us was don't worry about your upper body at all and only use your feet. That was horrible advice. After the lesson, and still struggling to do basic things, my brother in law showed us how to use our upper body with it and that was a lot easier. So we felt ripped off. You're better off without the lesson. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because of the awesome first aid team! I did end up injuring, pretty bad, my knee. I could not put any weight on it. The ski patrol came out with a sled for me to sit on and pulled me to the first aid room. They took great care of me! Plus that portion was free. I was worried about having an expensive medical bill afterwards but that part was included in just buying a ticket. I really appreciated all their patience and help!

They take your money and won't let you reschedule if you have been sick or if it's going to pour the rain . I have two small children that's supposed to have lessons for their first time and it's supposed to pour the rain all day . Never had an issue before but I've always bought walk up tickets .

They have time slots but over fill them. There are too many people and not enough tubes. With a two hour time limit you get to go down the hill maybe twice. All while trying to get a tube that families keep hoarding. I would definitely not recommend.

I'm not a ski kinda guy so I can't say if the slopes are good or not. I can say the tubing was fun. The place seems a bit dated and could use some sprucing up a bit but it's not bad. Maybe adding a few more amenities for us non ski folks. I'm sure people would pay for more things to do. Maybe a game room and a full bar. I'll be bringing more kids back next season for sure.

Incredibly rude staff. So disappointed to be talked to the way we were and also witnessed other guests being talked to in a very disrespectful way. I hate to think of visitors coming to our beautiful state and being treated that way.

I'm a newbie to snow skiing so Winterplace is a great place to come out for quite a few different run styles for my level. There are also harder runs for more experienced skiers so it does seem like there is something for everyone. Not all of the slopes were open this visit, though, but there were enough to keep us entertained from 11am to 5pm for sure. Oh but now that I think of it, I didn't notice technical runs or trick runs for the snowboarders...did I miss them or are they not available? There is plenty of parking with lot attendants to guide you and you don't have to walk too far to get to the ski center. We were a bit confused trying to figure out where to go to get lift tickets, though. We followed people in and stood in what looked like a long, slow line...turns out we were in the rental line. Luckily we had already rented my gear from the Ski Barn (recommend! Quick service there! And very close and you can also buy other gear!) so we stepped out of this line and went toward the "lift ticket only" line which was in a slightly different area. The line was pretty short and quick and they have a military discount. Lift ticket stickers in hand..we notIced a small metal hanger on a nearby table that you're supposed to use with the stickers to hang them from your jacket. And onward from there we found a locker room area with mostly small lockers that would no way have fit my stuff. And I think you have to use coins to rent them, so where do you get coins from? Maybe I just missed it ...there was a lot of newness going on for me. I think there were also some larger lockers to rent and a section of large cubbies to use. Now geared up and ready to go! We had left our skis and poles outside where my friends husband dropped them off for us in the pickup turnaround. Clonking around in our snow boots we had to walk up a flight of stairs with all of our stuff. We had the resort map with us hidden in one of our pockets so just winged it the first time and hoped that we would pick the right lift to start off with.At the lifts you can read on the signs what kind of runs you will be taken to. We asked while boarding the lift which run to take and were told something that would have been good had we understood exactly where they were describing. Instead we found a run with a steeper start..so there you go, I got my first fall out of the way in the first minute! After that we tried another lift and had a better experience and eventually found the map and figured out how to read it. Without a map, it seemed a bit difficult to me to know if I was doing the right thing for my skill level. But again, I'm a newbie so maybe things are more obvious to others if you've done it more often. We lucked out with it being cold enough to snow the day before and they had made some snow through the week. What a cool thing and we are so very lucky they can do that for us skiers in this part of the world. Finally decided to take a break for lunch and have to say that experience was just so-so. If you didn't wipe out on the slippery cafeteria flooring, that was a plus. My salad was fine but my friend wasn't totally thrilled with the hot dog and how long it took to make. Be careful in the bathrooms, too, with that same flooring. It's a fun slippery ride but luckily they are small so you can quickly catch yourself on something to save from falling. There was a room with a bar area, so that could be fun for the adults if you're hanging out for a longer period of time. And there is another food option somewhere ... maybe it was a restaurant? Not sure as I didn't find it this trip. Maybe next time! Also to note is that the staff was all very nice and helpful so that was a great experience. And they have what looks like a great ski school but you have to pay extra for it so I didn't. I guess my post could sound like I didn't enjoy myself and that is not the case. I loved the skiing part, that was really fun! My overall visit was enjoyable and just fine. I just wanted to let you know the little pieces that were a bit surprising.

This is a great spot to learn to ski. They have the ski school process down and you'll learn the fundamentals quickly and get lots of forced practice. My promised 90 min lesson ended after 60 but I was told I could stay as long as I liked or take another lesson for free but I felt a little short changed. Plus, you can then put your skills into practice on the green trail Country Roads. Parking is also very easy and convenient. We took other review's advice and brought food from home. This is allowed, you just can't eat it in the lodges. And this is where the not so great stuff starts. 1. The lodges are reminiscent of your high school cafeteria. No soft seating. No roaring fires. Not a place you want to take a break. We sat in our car because it was warmer and more comfortable. 2. The mid Mountain Lodge does have a fireplace but you have to ski a blue run to get there. 3. Boot fitting is one of the most important parts of skiing and they have their newest employees here. So while friendly they weren't knowledgeable and I spent my first day limping in too small boots before I went back in for a new size. 4. The way the runs are "counted" is suspicious. Yes they have more trails then NC ski resorts but many of those runs take about 15 seconds to complete or really are one longer run with two names. 5. My husband is a more advanced skier and he skied the mountain out on the first day and craved a double black for a challenge on the second day. In summary, good for first timers but "resort" it's not. There is a ski rental shop about a mile away and I would try and rent there to try on more boots and save some $$.

Are you expecting Colorado or Park City?!? Then, you might be disappointed. But, if you want to enjoy a few nice trails with an easy in and easy out, this place works. Full rental shop, bar which serves food with a kids menu. Lift lines aren't long during the week and employees are friendly and helpful. Ski school with "bunny hill" for newbies and several green and blue runs which are well groomed each night. Plenty of parking, cafeteria area with ski shop for essentials too.

Love it! Will be back! Ski patrol made me feel safe by making people wear their masks!

I had never been skiing before but since I am always down to try new things, I could not turn down an invite to spend a weekend at Winterplace. Originally from Charlotte, the 3 1/2 hour drive was not bad at all and we even got some nice views of mountains. We got to the resort early in the morning and took advantage of the student deal the resort offered. The resort wasn't covered in snow as the weather the week before was poor for snow blowing, but there were still about 11 trails open. I was able to try all the beginner trails and even worked my way up to the intermediate trails. Although the snow wasn't the best and it did blow that some trails weren't open, I still managed to have a blast all weekend learning to ski. My favorite part was the night skiing as the lights made for some wonderful vibes. I believe I've already outgrown this smaller resort but Instill really enjoyed the amenities and slopes they offered.

UPDATE: Made a phone call to attempt to get this resolved a week later... after I explained the situation to the ticket sales person, she kept informing me "we checked the box for inclement weather" and asked If I ever went to a beach house in Florida and requested a refund because the weather was bad..? This made no sense to me because we did not rent a cabin, etc. Further into the conversation she HUNG UP ON ME because I was trying to get this resolved, her name was TAMMY. Later that day, we recieved a phone call and were not offered a refund or even a rain check. I might as well just pulled $200 out of my pocket and ripped it up. We will never come back to this "ski resort" again, I can promise you.

EXTREMELY upset with our experience today. We drove 10 hours, booked a hotel room & planned to spend all day here and get our $235 worth of skiing that we paid for. Well, we get here they shut all the ski lifts down except for ONE!! AND WILL NOT ISSUE A REFUND. The line to get to the one open lift took 45 minutes and only gave you the option to go down one green trail or one blue trail that took 3 minutes to ski down. I understand that the weather is not predictable, but It's not even bad weather. It's 34 degrees with a few flurries. We had a group of 14 & none of us are happy with our experience.

The skiing was 5 star, the resort was 1 star. I was there 2/5-6/22 with a group renting equipment and trying to have a meal together. Skiing was pretty good with well groomed trails. The lift operators could be much better in managing maximum lift chair seat usage to keep lines down. So now the rental process was fine... lengthy but it moved. The dining area was a zoo. It's as if folks brought their own picnics in and set up camp in the various tables and had commandeered chairs to make none available. Be careful if you go to just eat in your car. The line for abysmal food was crazy long, and not moving much at all... then when you had a bag of food there was no where to sit due to the aforementioned campers. Perhaps having timed Lunch windows would be a good solution? Winterplace has been open for a few years so they should have this all figured out. I'll try them again but I'll bring my lunch and dine in the car or bus.

It was so much fun, very family oriented!! It felt cozy and comfortable in the lodge!! The snow tubing was so much fun.

They way oversell and it's so crowded!!! A costly, miserable trip! I will not be back!

Probably the worse ski resort ive ever been to. First. Very crowded. Felt like cattle. Took 45 minutes to get gear. Second. The ski gear was appalling. It was so old an in disrepair.snowboard boots so worn out that the straps an buckles were broken. And my ski boots didn't have an insole. I asked then and they said they take them out because they get nasty. I mean, who even does this? It was a joke to even pay for the rentals. It was very hard for my family to ski with such poor equipment. By the way , we ski at alot of different resorts. The slopes were not bad , but they had 2 chair lifts going to the same place. Thats weird? Bring your own gear or rent outside of the park. Otherwise stay away.

Yee haw! Winterplace is a pretty darn tootin' place for the winter season. I would recommend this to everyone! Their lodge is pretty nifty. It's big and has a lot of space. On the weekends, they do have a stage for karaoke for the people just in the lodge lounging around. Great for people to get all cheery. The slopes are pretty nice for the East side. They have many runs for the beginners and experts. I like they also have a secluded super beginner run in a circle so the experts don't really have a chance to crash into the beginners. Though I don't have a kid yet, I saw that their ski school was well organized. They have an area blocked off for the little ones to learn, and they all had to wear a Winterplace bib so people knew they were beginners. The staff seemed very friendly. I never got an angry face whenever I got onto a chairlift. Even though it's cold, the workers welcomed me with a smile when boarding the lift. All in all, a great place to ski or snowboard and take the family!

Fun day. No crowds, fast and long runs, no lines. Groomed and powdery, no ice today. Great new discovery!

I went here late in the season (3/8/14), when it was relatively warm but still snow on the slopes. The good: I enjoyed it because it wasn't crowded, obviously due to the weather, and the snow wasn't icy, mostly snow and slush. This is probably one of the best things for non-advanced persons so you don't have to worry about extra bodies to avoid. The lines weren't long, so we basically got to go up and down the lifts with ease. Parking was easy as well. We even drove the car to the other parking space for tubing with no issues. The bad: - The mountain isn't as big as I'm used to in the Northeast, and the trails are fairly short. - No supervision at the lift lines. You basically could have just walked right up to the lifts and got on without a ticket. Nobody was looking and people were merging from every direction. I'm sure I cut a bunch of people just because I entered in a side entrance after a run. Fortunately nobody cared since the lines were rather short, but I HOPE they police the lines when there are larger crowds. - The food isn't the best for the price, but not much options otherwise. I was surprised they had some free condiments (red onion, pickles, and 'fresh' tomatoes) to top on as much as you'd like. Overall, I've been to better places in terms of organization, but this wasn't bad due to being less crowded and freely go up and down the mountain with relative ease. I would come back again in the off-season, probably not during peak.

This is probably the worst ski resort we have ever been to. We usually go to Sugar Mountain in NC as it's close. We venture out west yearly but due to covid we wanted to stay close and try something new. Now we all new WV would not be like out west however more comparable to NC mountains but it was terrible. They had majority of the lifts close. You couldn't go to the top of the mountain or even half way. So the only thing open was greens and the bunny slopes. We are advance snowboarders and usually do black diamonds and blues, so we spent $1,000 on a snowboarding trip to basically do beginner slopes. Words couldn't describe how disappointed and mad we were. Also since there were only 2 chair lifts open the lines were crazy long. So you wait 20 min in line and then 10 min going up to a 3rd of the mountain to spend 4 min coming down. It was just terrible. This was our first and last trip to winterplace. We will either stick to Sugar mountain or go up to SnowShoe if we decide to snowboard on the east coast.

Group check in was slow, only one person working the desk. Other than that, most of the slopes were open and in good condition, a few icy spots here and there. A free lesson was provided to 2 of our group members. Lessons were very helpful! Overall we had a great time and enjoyed a "shot-ski" at the end of the ski day at the bar.

We are on our 3rd day skiing here with a group of 8. So far so good! We have been to 3 other resorts in the southeast and this is our favorite so far. It could use some better signage as far as when you are on the top of the mtn, make sure you know your trail map! The cafe is ok. Was a madhouse on Presidents day at lunchtime but to be expected. Not sure what all the comments are about "mean staff" but they were fine. Not overly pleasant but definable not rude. Some were very helpful and went out of their way, some just did the minimum to help us. The fitting of the boots and skis went quickly. They need a few upgrades to make it "perfect" but we weren't expecting a Banff ski experience anyways. (THAT trip was epic!) We are really enjoying our family ski vacation at Winterplace!! Will be back next year!!

Went for a girls' trip MLK weekend and I have to say I was unimpressed with the customer service. No one in our group has ever skied or snowboarded prior to this trip. The employees were very lazy in giving directions, suggestions, or any type of advice. This included snowtubing, snowboarding, boot fitting, and rental equipment. I will say the snowboard school was okay. I had a young guy who was somewhat engaged and provided decent feedback. However, at times he would give directions with his back to the group so it was hard to hear. On a positive note, I really loved the alcoholic hot chocolate options!

It was a good time but when we took a ski lift up to the mountain we told him to slow down getting off. He didn't see us because he was LOOKING AT HIS PHONE so we had to jump off. He was nice about. But being on your phone you can do better than that.

I have been going to Winterplace since I was a kid. Roughly 30 trails, mainly easier to intermediate, with 6+ advanced trails and terrain parks for snowboarding. My 8 year old took one class last year and is now on his way to being an excellent skier. I also recently enrolled my 4 year old in the Skiwee program (kids 4-10) for the day and it really has helped him learn the basic techniques of skiing for us to help him build upon. All the instructors are always very knowledgeable, friendly, and most of all patient (which is great for dealing with kids)! There is also a great snow tubing park (for those that don't want to ski/snowboard, or just want to take a break).

We brought our family and friends to Winterplace today to ski and we have had an extraordinary time. The staff has been friendly and nice and the slopes were very well groomed. There are a couple of places to eat close by and all the children and the adults have had a wonderful time.

This place is not for snow boarders. I wish it said it was a ski only resort so we didn't waist our time and money. On every run we went down, there was a long flat section we had to scoot across in order to make it to the next hill. It seemed like I was working instead of having fun. Even their "most difficult" run had a long stretch of flat that seemed up hill in some spots. The skiers had to use their poles a lot. Plus the runs were all really narrow. It was like going down a one lane road with maybe a couple open areas. Luckily we went when it wasn't very busy, otherwise it would have been very crowded going through the narrow runs.

Ok place. The bad- had snowblowers on every slope and it would freeze goggles so you can not see. Miserable conditions. Understand need to blow snow but on every slope all day long? Second bad- nowhere comfortable to sit if someone does not ski except uncomfortable cafeteria chairs. Third bad- horrible food. I mean cold burgers and cardboard pizza. Fourth bad- hard to find (if at all) signs for the slope names. No indication while out on slopes what is open and what is not. Pretty scary if you go to top and expect a beginner and it's not open. Fifth bad- child's skis were taken. Only after demanding to talk to manager did they handle appropriately and confirm we would not have to pay(does turn out whomever took them returned thankfully) One good- many slopes open and most not too narrow. Two good- fairly fast service to buy tickets and rentals Third- easy to get to and not too expensive. May or may not go back again. Would be just a little effort to make this place fantastic.

I have skied dozens of resorts in my life. This one is not the worst but it is close. This is my experience during the weekend of 01/18/13-01/20/13... 1. Poor salesmanship. Don't forget to ask for everything you need up front because you cannot add it on with your discounted rate (if you ski for the whole weekend). 2. Spotty (at best) ski instruction. One ski instructor refused to take us because we had our 6yr old son with us (who had never skied before). The instructor who finally worked with us yelled at my son and we almost came to blows. He suggested that we were bad parents because we wanted to ski with him. 3. The beginner ski area is overly steep for first-timers and was icy. Nobody consistently manned the carpet lift in this area and several potentially dangerous injuries could have happened. I had to hit the emergency stop once to keep one kid from falling off the lift. 4. Once you pay, they stop caring about you. We had a tube time for 3pm to 5pm. The tube area was shut down for some of that time due to an accident where someone went through the net and fell 30 feet to the road below. Once it was opened back up, they only opened three lanes. We asked to have our tickets moved to the next day but were denied because they "just don't do that" and if there is one tubing lane open, the whole course is considered open. We were able to get two runs in during that two hour period. 5. Dining options were subpar. The dining options are pretty much all the same at each location(bar food consisting of burgers, chicken fingers, and pizza). It was overpriced and portion sizes were small. 6. Night skiing was very icy. The crowds were manageable during the night ski time but the runs were very icy. 7. Several times there were accidents coming off the lifts and the lift operator was sitting around texting or otherwise not paying attention. This could make for a very dangerous situation if the lifts were running at capacity. 8. Ski run signage needs updating. 9. Overall Customer Service was poor. From the time we entered the resort dealing with the ticket sales office, the equipment rental staff, to the dining employees, all of them acted rude and were curt with answers to simple questions. I'm sure you can find a better place to ski and tube along the east coast. Think twice before you spend your money and don't expect a lot from the experience if you decide to try it.

I have been skiing at winterplace since I was a kid, and this past weekend was the first time I have come back in over ten years. Not much has changed! The weather was in the high 40s, so the slopes weren't crowded. We went to the bar at the resort, and our bartender Jacoby was amazing! He was very sweet and attentive. I would honesty go back just to have him serve us again!

To give a 5 star rating to this place would be an overstatement. What we love about this place is they do their best to keep lines flowing at all times, the runs can be long and slow or short and fast with a decent amount of options available and the price is better than anything else in close proximity to the Raleigh / Durham area. We'll be back.

The slopes that were open were great but the food is poor and expensive. The indoor facilities are crowded and do not have enough power outlets.

Ok overall. Good for local East Coast destination. Great snowmaking abilities. Short runs with limited vertical drop (listed as 600 ft but any given run is about 300-400 ft max). They weren't running any of the padded high speed quads when I was there (nor did it look like they had been operable in a while) so my legs are still aching from the plastic slats on the ancient lifts that were running. If there is fresh snow, though, it is a great diversion with good local skiing. The crowds in the lift lines can be oppressive on nice days though. There is no order to the lines either--pretty much need to push your way through. Amenities and food are typically overpriced and run down. Poor quality food. Not a great place to just leave your wife. Excellent rental equipment (Rossignol). Extremely convenient access right off of well maintained West Virginia interstate.

Winterplace is THE Winter SKI Resort for me, my friends, my family and for you and yours! There is literally something for EVERYONE!! If you're two or 102 Winterplace has something for you! Whether you're lounging in one of the two cabins, braving your way down a double black diamond ski slope, or tubing to your hearts content Winterplace will keep you coming back for more! Winterplace is a great escape from city life and at the same time provides many of the comforts of home with an added breath taking view. I definitely encourage you to check it out and yelp me about it :)

The workers here are very mean. They have no patience and got very angry when we made a simple mistake. A very unpleasant experience.

Not good with groups take way to long to fit ski cloths. Slopes were ok. Lodge was ok

WARNING Do not come here. The snow is below average, ski runs are mediocre, and customer service is unacceptable! I'm not on this app to complain about the weather; however, when uncontrollable circumstances are subpar, I'd expect a heightened sense of concern and hospitality towards the customers. Unfortunately, I experienced nothing of the sort from Winterplace. After a night a skiing, my friends and I trekked through the slushy "snow" to get to our last lift around 10:03 aware that the lifts closed at 10, but hopeful that the lift operators would offer some patience considering our friends were boarding the lift and a group of about 12 people were nearly 100 feet away. As we skied into the line, we were forced to turn around by the operator and WALK UP THE SKI SLOPE. As we hiked up the mountain in the cold with our skis and snowboards, we watched as the lift continued to operate for probably 10 more minutes. I was devastated, frustrated, and confused, as it seems this major inconvenience could have been easily avoided. It's disappointing to see the great potential in this resort be destroyed by the horrendous service i received at Winterplace and will not be returning anytime soon.

We decided to go Saturday MLK weekend and we knew it would be busy. The place was too crowded to the point that it was dangerous to even ski and snowboard on. The entire mountain was a sheet of ice due to warm temperatures with rain from the night before then a refreeze the morning of. People were wiping out left and right due to inexperience, the ice, and overcrowding. Ski patrol had their hands full all day. Groups of people would be sitting or standing in the middle of the runs. After getting a few runs in I decided to give up and go to the bar where the service was absolutely terrible. Prices were not bad but you get what you pay for. It was a disappointing experience because I have enjoyed coming here in the past. Will not be coming back.

Winterplace is great. The snow was perfect today. The food was decent but expensive for a cafeteria. It's gonna be cold tomorrow though.

Hidden gem only 3 hours from Charlotte. Conditions were amazing, and the staff was very helpful. Conditions were really good for the President's Day weekend--14 inches of fresh, fine powder! Know what you are getting at Winterplace--a smaller ski-area with some varied terrain. Eating options could be updated is my only suggestion.

Poorly run child close to 44" limit went down hill once then was escorted off hill. We traveled 3.5 hrs after calling and being told the height limit was laxed. Employees get power kick and acted tough till confronted. Not to mention 45-60 min line waiting times between trips down hill. Complete waste of a weekend. You sign a waiver and this is to take complete responsibility off of resort but it's just another way for Winterplace to pass and waste customer time in yet another long line. After breaking my girls heart by not letting her tube anymore they offer their kiddie section which consists of a 20'x50' section where parents have to pull kids up and push them down a joke of a knoll. Then this section is supposedly for kids under 44" but all the kids bored waiting in the hr lines come there to goff off. But no tough employees are there to strut their authority. Should of stayed in PA at least or resorts are run by non rednecks. Don't waste you money and time.
