This place is phenomenal! I spent 13 years living in Surabaya, Indonesia so I can attest to the fact that the food is not only authentic but also delicious. The tahu isi reminds me of what I got to eat in my childhood! More than the food, Ibu Maria was so unbelievably kind!! I live hours away, but I will be driving back!!

As travelers, we've had food from all over the world, but Indonesian is a bit harder to find in the states. We were happy to have found Wisanggeni and surprised further at how good they are. My husband and I ordered the duck and beef main dishes, chicken satay and lumpia. For drinks he ordered the iced coco drink and I the lychees tea. Everything was amazing and the flavors were bold and brought my flavor palette back to life. There's a little corner in the restaurant that they sell Indonesian snacks/foods/drinks to bring home. They even had some cool T-shirts for sale by the register that I really enjoyed but I couldn't find and prices for them. My only complaint was the prices ....they felt a smidge higher than they probably should have been. That and the tavern next door had an outdoor tent that was really rambunctious the day we went- blaring music and people yelling/cheering outside really kind of brought down the mood. That's not the restaurants fault at all I know, but regardless it was unfortunate. If you or a friend/partner are looking for something different to try and have a bit of extra spending money, I'd really suggest this place. (Just maybe not during 'Game Day')

The first time eating at this restaurant. We chose 'gorengan' appetizer : bala-bala/bakwan, tempe mendoan, and martabak telur. For meal we chose gado-gado, bakso Malang and Grill chicken. The service is superb 👌 All staffs are really nice and care. The foods are delicious, original taste of Indonesian meals! All Indonesian songs playing at the background. We also ordered Es Doger, Ginger tea, and Es Cendol Durian! Recommended to try place for Indonesian Foods!

We have been to Wisanggeni many times and absolutely love their food and staff/owner! I am vegetarian and love the To haven't, Gado, and Bakmi Jawa. My partner is Halal and enjoyed the Chicken Satay, Soto Ayam, and Hibachi Meal. The service is always very friendly and supportive of a diverse community. Will always be on our reliable go-to list! This restaurant serves authentic Indonesian food. We ordered mie ayam, grilled chicken, ayam geprek, tempe mendoan, tahu isi, and pastel — all of them tasted amazing. The staff were very warm and kind, and they even treated us to a complimentary es pisang ijo for dessert. Every dish was full of rich, homemade flavors that reminded us of Indonesia. If you’re looking for a cozy place with genuine Indonesian taste and friendly service, this spot is definitely worth a visit!

Hidden gem of north Indy! I can’t believe how delicious the food was. I’ve visited Indonesia a couple times and their food was just as excellent as anything there. The Bakmi Jawa (stir fried noodles) were my absolute favorite, and we all liked it so much we were fighting for the last bite. Highly recommend visiting!

Tonight was the first time visiting this Indonesian restaurant. They organized their first dutch-indonesian rijsttafel night, which was incredible. Im Dutch and grew up with rijsttafels, but this was so much better then I've ever had. Big fan, will be back. Rijsttafel nights will be on the third Wednesday of every month. Tickets were available online for $50 for either 12pm or 6pm. I can't wait for next month!

I love how this restaurant stays true to the traditional dishes of its home country. It attracts both curious people like me and Indonesians themselves. Thank you for such a rich experience of flavor and culture!

Wish I could give this restaurant more than five stars!! Came here with a friend on a snowy Friday night, so it wasn't too busy while we were there. We ordered chicken satay with rice cakes, which came with peanut sauce. As a big fan of anything with peanuts, this was exactly to my taste! The chicken was also tender and delicious! The nasi goreng (fried rice) was my favorite part of the meal though--it comes in three spice levels: mild, medium, and Indonesian spicy (which the owner mentioned is twice as spicy as the medium level). My friend (low spice tolerance) and I (medium-high spice tolerance) ordered the medium. We both found it spicy at first--an enjoyable level for me, but not so much for her. After a certain point, I didn't find it spicy (just delicious!!), which made me want to try the Indonesian spice level next time :) The owner offered us Indonesian coffee candies (Kopiko) at the end of our meal--a kind gesture that tells you everything about dining here. One of my new favorite restaurants in the Indy area, I will definitely be returning with my family and friends!

Interesting foods here. Since I had never experienced Indonesian cuisine, I opted for the sampler plater. I wasn't a big fan of the chicken leg, but I don't usually like that no matter how it is prepared, so don't hold that against this place. The rest of my platter was good. Interesting for sure. I hope to explore in the near future. My guests all raved about the veggie fritters, so that is a must at my next visit. Feeling adventurous I also ordered a 'Happy Soda' which is listed as: Indonesian Favorite mixed drink, condensed milk, cocopandan syrup topped with sprite. The taste was fabulous, but very sweet. I am looking forward to discovering more items on this menu. The service is super friendly, the portions are generous, the prices are reasonable and free parking out front.

Tried Indonesian food for the first time and I'm so glad it was at this place. The service was great. The food was very fresh and flavorful. The place is small on the inside, which makes your experience intimate. I like that I had the noodles and chicken with the crackers for dinner. Then finished with UBE Martabak Manis for dessert. Loved everything about my visit to Wisanggeni and it will not be long until I am back!

We came at 7:30pm on a Friday night and there was plenty of seating. It was an open space and had seating for larger groups as well. We were seated right away. The server was friendly and provided us with helpful recommendations. This was our first time trying Indonesian food and it was so delicious! The price was fair and the portions were a good size. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. We hope to bring our family here next time!

While we had high hopes, there is only one person managing orders so ordering food and even receiving cutlery took too long. Food wise, all four dishes were overly salty and overpowered the dishes.

Definitely come here. They used to have a takeout spot within Circle City Eats downtown, but moved to Keystone and 71st a few months ago. We met up with three other couples (plus a baby) and were all first-timers. When we pulled up, there wasn't a sign up yet. There was a small sign in the window, but we accidentally pulled into the parking lot of the Chinese restaurant next door first. There wasn't any decor up inside yet and there were only two bare-bones tables and a few chairs. My friends had seen their great reviews, so no one batted an eye. The sweet owner had told us that she was doing mostly carry-out still and was hoping to add to the interior and do more of a grand opening this summer. We got menus and checked out the drinks. There were some really interesting and colorful drinks that people at our table ordered. There's no alcohol yet (as of a few months ago), but no problem in my book. We got food menus and ordered a ton of things. My one note here is that it would be helpful to provide even more detail, as many dishes don't list what the protein is and one person at our table doesn't eat pork. Here's what we ordered: + Steamed dumplings: Delicious and filled with chicken and shrimp + Rocky shrimp appetizer: Crispy panko shrimp with pink dragon fruit sauce + Nasi Rames: "Traditional combo meal of the day" - it had amazing crispy chicken, a noodle dish, side of rice, omelette, and an amazing bowl of soup (you can choose your protein) + Beef Rendang: Halal beef simmered with coconut milk and mixture of spices for hours. Comes with steamed rice, kale Gulai (thick curry), omelette and Green Sambal + Ube spring rolls: Ube chocolate covered in rice paper and deep fried Our server brought us each a blackberry dipped in chocolate to finish (without asking) and it was the best ending to the meal. Everything was truly amazing. They were doing many carry-out orders while we were here and it was a small team working, so plan on being patient and enjoying the ride. Everyone at our table loved their food and ate every bite (aka the real test of how much everyone enjoyed!). The sweet owner came out to say hi and I can't wait to keep cheering her on. Thanks for putting a spotlight on incredible Indonesian food in Indy! I want to try everything!

The veggie fritters were so light and prepared well, not oily at all. This was the favorite at the table. Nasi Goreng (fried rice) was good. We got sambal on the side,in case it would be too spicy mixed in. Sambal was spicy and added a great flavor and complexity to the dish. The green sambal was more spicy than the red. Another person in our group got the beef rendang and enjoyed the complex spiced flavor of the beef. We also tried the martabak manis desert, which was more sweet than I was expecting. I've never had anything like it. I'm happy they had a mini option so we could try it. For a weekend lunch, they were pretty busy with all seven tables occupied. The server was so nice and helped customers with a sense of urgency. Parking is a bit limited out front.

We drove from West Lafayette IN and wow, was it worth the trip!! Excellent food, served by an excellent host who made the dining experience so much more fun. We tried 5 different items in total, all were a hit! We had to pack 2 more to go. If you're interested in some really tasty food, with some real distinct flavors, this is the place! Wonderful drinks on the menu too. Highly recommend

It's official! Indy has an amazing Indonesian spot which is so authentic and serves such good flavors! Now if you are someone who is looking for upscale ambience Wisanggeni Pawon will not meet your expectations but if you are looking for good food and quality this is the place! I loved Martabak Telor which is essentially beef wrapped in layers of what looked like phyllo dough. The iced cendol was a sweet drink with coconut milk, vermicelli and brown sugar that had such a caramel flavored taste. Not too intense but not too sweet either. Our group ordered a variety of food and every dish was authentic and delicious. This is definitely a gem in Indy with some really good options.

banjak bagus I meant to send this way back when... so i apologize to the place. I do asian food is kind of a rarity in this country, but it's near and dear to my heart because i grew up with it. NEVER imagined i'd find an Indonesian place in Indianapolis. Sorry... the food... fantastic fried rice, sate and krupuk and the owner, a characteristically happy Indonesian guy with a big smile Loved talking about his food. I just love walking in a place owned by a guy who is having fun cooking good food, and if it is hard to find Indonesian food so much the better. If i lived in Indianapolis i would eat here often. You should give it a go.

My boyfriend and I ordered so much food and it was all so delicious! I was craving beef rendang and it tasted amazing! That along with all the appetizers, the lychee drink and the ube spring roll desserts that we took to-go. The entrees or main dishes are spicy and flavorful and it was nice that they kept the extra spice on the side since I can't handle too much spice lol. We had to get to-go boxes since we were full lol but even the leftovers taste great :) The waiter is very hardworking too! He was helping everyone at the restaurant and he was so kind! The place was nice as well and I enjoyed listening to the music played. This is such a nice place and I would recommend it to anyone craving Indonesian food!

Ah, my inaugural voyage into the realm of Indonesian street food, and oh OMgeee, was it a flavorful fiesta! I ordered the chicken satay. The grilled chicken on a stick was charred to perfection and smothered with this amazing peanut sauce. I shall return, gathering more friends to embark on this epicurean adventure once more! Unfortunately, I was too full to really enjoy the dessert. It was good, BUT I was in a food coma by then.

I have heard good things about Wisanggeni since before when they were take out only. Well today was the day and it did not disappoint. They were fairly busy for dine in for a Friday night. We ordered the crab rangoon to start and it was large and overflowing and delicious. My husband said after one bite that it was definitely the best he's had. I ordered the Bakmi Jawa the Indonesian stir fry. It was delicious and akin to pad Thai. My husband got the beef rendeng which was tender and flavorful. Definitely other dishes I want to try! We felt very welcome and appreciated.

I ordered the Bala Bala, and the Nasi Goreng (with chicken). The Bala comes with 3 large deep fried mixed veggie fritters, along with a container of peanut sauce. It's a large portion, and went well with the Nasi Goreng, which is fried rice that comes with your choice of protein, and a fried egg on top. The rice was delicious, the egg was perfectly done, and it's a large portion. The chicken in the Nasi was sub-par overcooked cubes that didn't do justice to the nicely flavored rice. The restaurant is in the former Sakura Mart location on 71st Street, just east of Keystone. It's a spartan atmosphere at present, with fluorescent lights and a few scattered tables, but I assume they have plans to add more features later. I suggest using their on-line ordering system and note that the order was ready before the time noted on the confirmation text.

The owner did a great job at explaining the ingredients used in each dish. We enjoyed everything we had there.

Warning: their spicy is truly hot! Have only delivered food from here once so can't speak to the customer service or ~vibes~. I also haven't had authentic Indonesian food but from what I hear this is as close to authentic as you can get! Everything was delicious, but just a tad bit too oily and spicy. Next time I swing by I'll probably dial down on the spice. Very happy that new restaurants are in the area though, and that Indy is expanding its palate!

We loved this place! We got a variety of food mostly not pictured but I posted what I was able to get picture of! The service was amazing, the waiter went over each menu item and was very helpful in assisting us in making our selections. The seasonings used in each dish were phenomenal. It all had such great flavor. Can't wait to go back!

Excellent choices. Too many infact. My favorite was the lamb satay. Service was with a smile. We all tried something different. Interesting, yummy drinks , deserts and appetizers. Unusual items. A must try!

We ate at the new 71st Street location and it was amazing. Everything was delicious. I had the sampler platter (Nasi rames) and we also ordered the chicken satay with the peanut sauce. Really enjoyed it and we're definitely coming back.

I stumbled across this place via Doordash and decided to try it out.I loved it so much I ordered again from them later in the week. My first order was their Vegetables Hibachi ($11.95) which comes with fried rice. Delicious! The food came to me nice and hot and tasted fantastic! I didn't even have to use the sauce that came with it because it was so tasty. I tried to order again the next evening, but they were closed on Tuesday. I also drove by the place because I live nearby and I didn't even know it existed. It's in the Circle City Eats building, which I had no idea about. Wednesday though.. they were open. I studied the menu to choose my next entree. I came across the description for Nasi Padang which began "One of the best dish in the world" which is quite a statement to make. Have to agree though.. think of a beef pot roast that's been simmering in all kinds of spices for hours and hours. I'm drooling thinking about it (again). Reward yourself and give this place a try. As soon as I heard about this restaurant, I had to try it. The food in the pictures looked delicious. The restaurant is one of many located in Circle City Eats. I ordered at the kiosk and had my food within 10 minutes. I went with the shrimp and chicken hibachi. The ingredients were fresh and the dish was flavorful and delicious. It was the same quality you would get at a Japanese steakhouse, without the show. I will definitely be back to try one of their other dishes.

I wasn't feeling well the other evening and wanted something with delicious broth from a restaurant I haven't tried. It was my first time trying Indonesian food and I called the restaurant to see what they recommended. I had a lovely conversation with the person who answered! She shared so much about the food and the restaurant that I was eager to try anything on the menu but she did suggest the Mie Ayam. I ordered off of doordash and when the food arrived I was impressed with the little packaging touches such as having a small rectangle piece of cardboard on the bottom of the paper bag so nothing spilled along with the separate packaging of the broth and the noodles. They also had stickers with the name of the meal and "Terima Kasih" which means Thank You in Indonesian. Before adding the broth to the noodles and wontons I tasted it and it was incredibly flavorful! I was blown away at how such simple ingredients could be packed with flavor but not in an overpowering way. I added the broth to the noodles and it was delicious! It was so filling. I had to save half of it for the next day which gave me the perfect meal to look forward to. I can't wait to try other menu items soon! Terima Kasih for the incredible meal!

Took my wife here as she was craving Martabak Manis and it was hands down the best food we have had in awhile. the quality and flavor was perfection. Note: they recently moved to a bigger place, if you look it up through google, you will find it, if you look it up through Maps (IOS), the address has not been updated yet.

I wish I could rate this place higher!! I could not believe the flavors on my dish, it was really incredible. They give large portions for a fair price when considering the time and love put into the dishes. The owner and wife were friendly and gave simple yet sweet service. I will absolutely be back! Who knew jackfruit could taste so good?

The food here is beyond amazing and the service is immensely caring. This is one of the best restaurants in Indianapolis, way better than any high end or luxury restaurant you can find in prime locations downtown or the Northside. Go here ASAP!!! Sometimes you try a new food and your mouth immediately begins to water. There's no other way to describe the reaction I had to this food! The flavors were like nothing I've ever had before and I had to physically remove myself from the table before I ate too much. On the first visit we tried the Bala (light and crispy with a nice sauce), Nasi Rames with fried chicken (this one, this is the one I could order every time and never be disappointed), and beef rendang (which I can best describe as deeply savory). The second visit I struggled to try something new, knowing I should expand my options but already missing what I'd gotten last time. I soon forgot about them as I slurped down my Mie Ayam (a soup with ramen noodles, chicken, onions, sesame oil, and wontons- 2 fried and 2 steamed, both incredibly juicy and flavorful) and stole bites of my friend's Bebek Madura (crispy duck dish with rice). We also got the rocky shrimp which were crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. The service is very friendly and helpful. My only caution is that this food is clearly cooked to order and takes time so don't expect a quick lunch. It's well worth any wait.

This spot seems to be relatively new and I'm happy I stumbled upon it! I can't think of any other Indonesian restaurant in Indy so it was exciting to try something new. The place is take out only (with a pretty quirky pickup process btw - you scan the screen of your phone/Uber Eats app to open your locker). I got Nasi Goreng + Avocado salad and both tasted great. Really big portion sizes, fresh, flavorful, and cooked well. Their prices are also very reasonable. Highly recommend and I'll be back soon!

The food is good, but the wait for takeout is ridiculously long. There was no help in the front or the kitchen; just one person manages the entire place, running back and forth for takeouts. It's a little overpriced for what you get, but again, the food was good. After weighing the pros and cons, we probably won't be back.

10 out if 10, this food is authentic and so flavorful!! We were passing through and had the best take out meal ever. If we lived closer, we would be regulars. It's extremely hard to find tasty and authentic Indonesian food in the Midwest and this place nailed it! We can't wait to come back! Service was fast and friendly. I ordered the food online for curbside pickup. It was a super easy ordering process, and their website had photos of all the food which makes ordering so much easier. I was quoted 15-20 minutes and showed up at around the 20 minute mark. It took around 5 minutes for the food to come out, which was totally fine. They brought my food out to the car and they were so nice!! The customer service was top tier. But the food was even better. I have never had rice that was that well-seasoned. The noodles had so much texture and flavor. I got mild and they had just enough spice. The cucumber was a nice touch to cool down. The crab Rangoon were HEAT. I feel like I've gotten used to crab rangoons that have been in the back of a freezer for like 2 years. These were nothing like that. They were filled very well, had tons of flavor, you could see the imitation crab and the green onions throughout. And the chili sauce to dip them in was so good. When ordering hibachi to go, I've noticed that the veggies often end up kinda soggy. That was not the case at all here. They still had a great crunch and the sauce on the veggies was delicious. The meat in the hibachi was a bit overcooked. But everything else was so good that I didn't even mind. If you haven't tried it yet, go now!!

We ordered grilled ribs and Bebek Madura. it tastes so so good! The mendoan tempeh is also the best! Mas Ruri's service is very friendly and good! we will definitely be back again!

This place to get eight out of ten as far as the food go! There was no customer service because when I had it, it was a ghost restaurant in Circle city eats!

Bakmi Jawa is tasty even with mild spice. Chicken added costs $1 and isn't really necessary especially since meat is dry. I can't wait to try other Indonesian dishes on their menu. An Indonesian friend recommended this place!

My family and I ate here last weekend. We had a great meal! Our server was very patient and helpful as we decided on several appetizers and meals to share. Everything we ordered was delicious! We got veggie fritters, crab rangoon, rocky shrimp, beef rendang, and bakmi jawa. We finished all the food and can't wait to go back! We ended our visit with martabak manis. It was the perfect choice of dessert. Awesome food! Excellent service!

Growing up, a good friend of the family was Indonesian. I spent copious amounts of time at his home, as his sons were close friends. While I don't remember ever having any of his native cuisine, my friends always spoke highly of it. Their descriptions of the food was mouth-watering. Fortunately, Indianapolis has Wisanggeni Pawon, and it's wonderful. Having never eaten Indonesian fare, choosing a meal was a tough choice. The restaurant also has Japanese fusion dishes, but those didn't interest me. I chose Bakmi Jawa, which is stir fry noodles. I added chicken, beef, and shrimp: a meal isn't a meal without meat. Clearly, I chose the "Indonesian spicy" version. Go big or go home - and BIG it was! I was shocked by the portion size. I'm a very hearty eater, and I didn't finish all the noodles, but I could have. It was absolutely delicious! The spice level was not over-the-top, but those with wimpy tongues might regret it. Wisanggeni Pawon is located inside Circle City Eats, a take-out and delivery kitchen. The customer can neither dine in nor see the kitchen nor interact with the staff. While the take-out process is interesting to say the least, it's a little Millennial for me. In other words, "Like OMG, I don't want talk to anyone because that would involve taking my AirPods out. I just want to get my food from a locker and GTFO, lol." Anyway, I'd prefer to interact with the staff, as I'm sure they are interesting. I can't wait to return.

Real good Indonesian and Asian Fusion food served here. We had two Indonesian specialties - fish and also chicken skewers. Also some Japanese style entree's, rice and two really tasty appetizers. We had good service and definitely enjoyed trying some very well prepared, interesting Asian food. Very plain straight forward atmosphere, not at all fancy, but really good food.

Food is authentic and so delicious. Get the Martabak Manis Mini. It's a piece of chocolate heaven. Nasi Rames was so good and the sambal so flavorful. Kids devoured the beef martabak. Beef rendang is a must get. Everything was well packed for takeout.

Food is pretty good and flavorful but the portion should be more. Most dishes come with a rice but not enough for me so I ordered extra rice. They charge me $3.50 just for rice. Only one waitress so be expected the service will be slow. The ambiance is so so.

Really great and unique flavors. The beef rendang was very tender. Also had the mie ayam chicken wonton noodles. Would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for some rich warm broth. Will definitely be going back to try some other dishes.

Been ordering from here once per week on average past 4 to 5 months or so. Only indonesian restaurant in indy metro, joins two others in Indiana (Greensburg and bloomington). It's fantastic. Highlights: - located in circle city eats carry out/delivery "food hall". No dine in - menu has been evolving over time. Rendang (spicy caramelized curry beef dish) is top notch. Slowly adding increased number of indonesian dishes to menu. The indonesian wonton ramen is soo good as well. Also have Japanese hibachi which is quite tasty, fried rice is one of best in city. - family owned, owners so sweet! - for a while, one drawback was inconsistent hours and inconsistent menus amongst delivery third party sites. This has seemed to improve over past 3-4 weeks as have not had any issues with orders placed and being canceled or there being unexpected closures. Verdict: highly recommend to order from here and give a try. Wide range of dishes that appeal to wide range of palates, even those who may be hesitant to step outside comfort zone. For southeast Asian cuisine lovers, this place serves a much needed niche in downtown indy (and indy metro as whole) as high quality indonesian fare! No more need to go to btown or Chicago to satisfy this craving!

I don't have a photo because I devoured it as soon as I got it. But the next time I come back I will take pictures. Pros: The food is amazing and at a great price point Social distancing friendly Again, the food is amazing. Cons: Call to check in times. Google and other platforms have a given time, waited a good few hours to sample their dishes (worth it) but call ahead or message them on Instagram to get the time they are there. Others then that I got the fish dumplings and crunchy chicken. The serving was hefty and the sambal was sweet and spicy.
