Wittich's Candy Shop

On Thursday, I stopped and they had to sign up that this peanut brittle was not burnt. It was just the coloring no it’s totally burnt and disgusting. Probably the worst peanut brittle I’ve ever had look at the pictures you can tell it’s burnt, but of course she couldn’t see that when you were in the store because they had it all facing down.

I forgot to post a review when I went home to visit last year! We stopped in to get buckeyes to take back to Connecticut and grabbed a bunch of other goodies while we were at it. Our favorite treat was actually the pumpkin sundae! Look how cute! We’ve been trying to recreate it ourselves until we can visit again. Fingers crossed we can actually get in the door during Pumpkin Show!

Super easy to find and such a worthwhile stop! The candy is so yummy! We got some buckeyes and milk chocolate caramels- I also got a Christmas present and they offered free wrapping! My son ate his Santa chocolate lollipop before we were out of the parking lot. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. There was a steady stream of customers. We visited around 11 am on a Saturday. Plenty more f parking close to the store and it was super easy in and out.

This shop is an absolute DELIGHT! The ladies working are so sweet. They showed my kids how buckeyes are made and even let us have a sample. Of all our recent summer adventures, my kids said this stop was their favorite. ❤️ It’s rare to find truly handmade candies these days. Buckeyes and salted dark chocolate caramels are our favorites so far. We’ll be back for more!

For the past 30 years, my mother-in-law has gotten me a 16 oz box of all dark chocolate, maple creams because it is my all time favorite. This year, there is something off with the maple cream – so much so that I threw all but 4 away. MAWGA – Make Wittich’s Great Again!

Very friendly staff. Many unique chocolates, along with the traditional selections. Very tasty! Prices are very reasonable. We also bought nuts and an old-fashioned phosphate! Ice cream counter also! It's super cute but tiny space, so be prepared for that.

Oldest family owned and operated candy store did not disappoint! We loved the ambience, the service, the amazing hand-dipped candy and prices were fair! Highly recommend a visit, we will definitely be back!

This is the cutest shop and far and away, the best candies, bar none! The owner introduced herself to myself and my mother and she made us our caramel soda and shark week sundae! Mom and I enjoyed ourselves immensely and will soon return for the smiles from the the ladies behind the counter as well as the finest chocolates I've ever had in my lifetime! Thank you for taking pride in what you do, you are Master Confectioners Whittichs Family and God bless you so you may continue to bless your customers! Please note, the box of candy was packed full, brimming to near overflowing, we've eaten these nonstop since we got home yesterday!! Thank you again Whittichs Family!!

The selection of chocolates, nuts, candies and ice cream is huge. I tried a two different milk chocolate vanilla buttercreams, a white chocolate buckeye and a normal buckeye. The buttercreams were not my favorite. The two buckeyes were better. The best part was the kind service by the ladies who answered questions for us and made us feel welcome in this classic chocolate shop.

Great little soda shop and candy store. Chocolates were very good. They also had other types of candy like gummy worms and stuff. And I got an old fashioned cherry ice cream soda and my husband got a root beer float. Circleville is a nice small town and we had a lot of fun there.

What would you except from a family owned sweet shop open since 1840? Friendly excellence and quality product! So happy we stopped in after seeing a spot highlighted on One Tank Trips on Fox8. Hope to visit again during the Pumpkin Festival!

Homemade chocolates and candies are delicious! They have the old fashion soda fountain that is fun to try. Also you can find some Ohio theme gifts and souvenirs.

Staff: The staff here are so sweet and welcoming. They are always so eager and happy to help. They always have a smile on your face. Service: They were so extremely informative and helpful. They are always so helpful with answering any and all questions asked. Selection: They have an absolutely amazing selection of candy. Their chocolate selection is phenomenal. The jellybean selection is amazing. Experience: My experience here was one of the greatest experiences I've had. Ombiance: Is so calm and welcoming. I definitely recommend going here to everyone who is looking for some really amazing fresh homemade candy made daily, ice cream, and floats.

Loved this old fashioned soda shop in Circleville! They have a counter with stools lining their ice cream counter on one side of the store. The other is filled with displays of chocolates, candies, and nuts. As you walk in the smells invite you in. The aesthetically pleasing look of the store is a feast for your eyes. Buy candy per piece by the pound or buy premade boxes. I bought several different pieces to get a good sampling. The chocolate is really good. It has a creamy consistency and amazing flavor. This is a wonderful little stop while shopping in downtown Circleville.

5 stars People are really friendly and very helpful. It's worth the trip. Prices are very competitive with some leading candy stores. If your in the area and don't stop it's your loss

One of the oldest candy shops in the state of not USA! Wonderful chocolate, candy, and even ice cream, shakes, and malts!

This is the best candy ever. We have purchased it for many years, when we lived in Circlevillle, and even now after moving to Wyoming. I love the cream filled peanut clusters, which can't be found in stores out here, just clusters, no cream filling. The staff always make it easy to order by phone, even shipping to multiple addresses.

Always given a welcome upon entering. Fabulous chocolates of all kinds no matter how little or how much you wish to purchase. A real jewel in Circleville, Ohio.

We, my husband and I love Wittich's Peanut Brittle!!! We haven't tried any of their other candies as I am a diabetic of 61 years!! I do cheat some to eat a piece or two of the peanut brittle, or I make carbohydrate exchanges do I can safely eat small pieces of the delicious Peanut Brittle!!!

This is a place that we always hit when we're at the Pumpkin Show! I love the old style feel of the place and the employees are always great there!

In the year 1840: - the US still had slavery - William Henry Harrison was elected president - you might have worn a hoop skirt or bonnet - the lightbulb was still 30+ years from being invented - everyone rode around on horses ....and Wittich's was making their delicious candy. It's hard to believe, but the oldest confectionery in America is still going strong in my hometown of Circleville, Ohio. True to tradition, Wittich's still makes all their savory sweets fresh in-house. The advent of electricity and automobiles have only made this cove all the more charming (and efficient). It's been family owned and operated since the very beginning -- no small feat considering next year will be its 170th anniversary! The family did eventually concede to rebuilding the store in the late 1990s, doubling its size and installing a soda fountain salvaged from another local haven that hadn't been as fortunate. Wittich's is a wonderful gem, warmly embraced by a community being overrun with chains. I love this place! I'm not home very often these days, but you can be sure that when I am I always make a point to stop in for some cinnamon mints and buckeyes (chocolate covered peanut butter -- not the poisonous ones!). If I have time, I'll take a seat at the 1930s style soda fountain counter for a root beer float, spinning in circles on the stools like a little kid, or on nicer days I'll sit outside at a picnic table under a sleepy maple. They have their own original recipe for mints that (as far as I know) hasn't changed since the days of yore. Definitely try a Brown or Purple Cow at the soda fountain, or if you can make it in October anything pumpkin is sure to be a winner. If you're feeling really inspired, they also sell candy molds for those who want to try their own hand at confectionery. You can get stuffed animals, coffee mugs, and other miscellaneous containers to fill with goodies for the perfect gift, complete with complimentary gift wrap! I cannot gush enough about Wittich's! I truly love this place, and I hope they have another 100 years (or more!) of continued success. If you're ever heading south of Columbus, it is definitely worth the detour.

This candy shop! My goodness I haven't had one thing out of here I haven't liked! I can understand why they've been in business as long as they have! Very cute place to visit when in town and of course to take the kiddies to, they have such a blast and the staff is so kind!

Oldest Candy shop in America, I've got to go. Being very sick from the overload of food at the Pumpkin Festival I still was willing to make room for Wittich's. Turns out there was no need, I sampled the ice cream and it was no better than grocery store options, really? I think people like the IDEA of this place and the history of it but the candy and ice cream options didn't do anything for me and I left without feeling the need to purchase a thing, plus it was rather pricey.

Wittich's has so much to offer, but sill has so much potential! We enjoyed our visit to Wittich's Candy Shop today. From homemade chocolates to an old fashioned soda fountain, it's evident the quality of their products and the friendliness of the staff has kept this business alive for 172 years. I'd never heard of a "phosphate" before, but happily ordered one & was delighted to see the nice lady hand-mix my vanilla flavored version of this soda drink for me. It was delicious. My companions each had hot fudge sundaes and raved about the richness of the chocolate fudge, made from a recipe passed down through the Wittich family over the years. The chocolate candy is terrific. Its creamy & rich texture is backed up by really nice flavor. Nothing artificial here. With all of its success, there is so much opportunity and potential left for this shop. Its layout is a bit cluttered & signage and candy descriptions would be very helpful. I also think they could do more to capitalize on their status as the oldest continually operating candy shop in the country. Once inside, you'd never know this place has such a long history behind it. They should also trade the 70's era hippie music playing in the background for some ragtime tunes that really play up the historical angle. This shop has great products, service & people. I will absolutely be back and will bring my friends and family.

The best candy shop in Ohio! I always gift wittichs candy for gifts and it's that gift that keeps giving!

This is one of the must visits on my list when going to the Circleville Pumpkin Show. It's an old ice cream shop and chocolate shop all in one. It's always been too cold to get ice cream, but we always go and get pumpkin fudge and pumpkin peanut brittle from here.

Been going here since I was little. The staff is so friendly and the candy is delicious. The ice cream bar is a great touch and it really is like walking into a 1950's Candy Shoppe.

I go for the candy, the chocolate is delicious. The double dipped peanuts are a favorite of mine. The pistachio creams are good. The yogurt dipped pretzels excellent. The hand made candy canes are great. I will be going back. I have not tried the ice cream or soda fountain, but let's face it...it's a candy shop/ confectionary go for the candy. The sales people are friendly and made suggestions without being pushy

I love this candy shop! It has all the old world charm you would expect from one of the nations oldest confectionaries. It features an old-fashioned ice cream soda fountain, with some of the best hot fudge in the world. They offer a wide variety of handmade chocolates in milk chocolate and dark chocolate. They can create chocolate boxes to order with the varieties you like or you can grab a premade box to go if you are in a hurry. They also offer other typical candy shop fare such as sweetened nuts, jelly beans, suckers, etc. They even have an area in the front with candy making supplies to purchase to make your own candy and chocolates at home. My only complaint is that I sometimes feel rushed because of the layout of the store. I wish they had a cash register in the front to check out, because whenever I go in before a holiday and it is busy, I don't feel I have enough time to look around and select what I want. The way it is currently set up you purchase your items from the people who are making the candy boxes, so it feels like you need to know exactly everything you want when you step up to the counter. They are working with in a small space so I guess it is the best set up they can offer at the time.

I would recommend this place for all of your unhealthy, delicious needs. Turns out they are the world's oldest confectionery, which is pretty freaking awesome, in my opinion. Great candy, yummy ice cream. I have great childhood memories of going in there with family and sitting at the bar and ordering a scoop of moose tracks. It's got a cool old fashioned atmosphere.

There's a lot of candy to choose from. There is also an old soda fountain, which is pretty cool. It has a very vintage "feel", which can be expected from one of the oldest candy stores in the United States. Very unique little store, and is worth stopping by.

Hard to explain, but it's almost like taking a step back in time when you walk in this place. They make everything the old fashioned way and their items taste sooooo much better than what you find anywhere else. Stop in and give them a try, you won't regret it!

I've lived in Circleville for two years now, always wanted to check out Wittich's. Today after working in the alley next to and behind this shop I was severely thirsty so I went in there for a drink (seeing as their sign said they had sodas), I was met with the most awkward feeling i've ever had in a store no welcomes, no smiles, just awkward stares. I walked up to the counter and the girl behind it looked at me, frowned, then turned around and started cleaning. I turned to the woman behind me she just stared. I was literally waiting a good minute at the counters until the woman behind me said. "Just ask her if you want something!" I replied" I've been working in the alley here and was looking for something to drink." "There is a pop machine outside." She replied hastily. Now I don't know if it was because I was dirty from working with asphalt or what their deal was. I just know I am never returning to this candy shop. When you enter I hope you get a better feeling from the place as I did.

They also have a large line of sugar free chocolates and candies so if you're diabetic or watching your calories you can still indulge

From California visiting friends in cute Circleville & they said before you leave we need to stop here. I'm so glad we did! Watched chocolatiers make chocolate orange creme balls mmmmm

The candy is good...the service is lacking. The sales girl acted as if it was a chore to serve us. If you expect a friendly face or cheerful greating you will be disappointed!

If you're ever within 10mi of Circleville, you really need to come to Wittichs. It's the oldest family-owned candy store in the US. If you go in on the right day they will be making some of the candy right there in the shop. People come here literally from all over the world to make their own candy and watch how they make things. Just imagine, they were making candy prior to the Civil war, Ohio had only been a state for 37 years when this store was opened.

LOVE THEIR CANDY! Well, I must admit, I'm pretty addicted to their shakes too. I really like the old ice cream bar you sit at. It is also cool to watch the ladies sit at the back tables and dip some of the different candy by hand. The other part that makes it nice is their prices are competitive too.
