I'll start by saying that this is a clean and beautiful campground with friendly staff and great ocean views. I stayed here with a group of 7 other friends (we are all in our 20s & 30s) and we were really looking forward for a weekend away from our busy schedules to relax and spend time with each other over the course of the weekend.
TL;DR - "Quiet Hours" literally means "Silent Hours" here, so this is not the campground for you if you plan to enjoy the company of your friends and family while camping.
On our first night we all got in late as we were coming from work a couple of hours away. We didn't have dinner cooked until around 9:15pm and enjoyed our time sitting by the fire at our campsite while we ate dinner. We had some light music playing and were talking and laughing a normal amount, but no one was being overly loud. We're a respectful group of people and were aware of the sites around us.
At exactly 10:00pm, our neighbor came over and asked us to turn down our music as it was now quiet time. We understood and respectfully turned it down and lowered our voices. Not long after that, a campground staff member drove up and said that he had received multiple phone calls complaining about our noise level. He was kind and told us that he still wanted us to have fun, but to keep it down a bit more. We again apologized and respectfully lowered our voices even further to soft whispers. We have all been camping before and understand quiet time. We were literally whispering. About 20 minute later, the staff member came back and told us that he could hear us from all the way across the campground and threatened to call the cops on us. We were extremely confused because we had literally been whispering, and even before that we did not feel that we had been that loud. We felt that the threat of police action was quite extreme, and we even asked if there was another campsite we could move to that was a bit more removed so that we could continue to enjoy each other's company, at a respectful level. There was no other campsite available, and again he told us to keep having fun but to be mindful of the people around us (which we absolutely were).
At this point, we looked around at the other sites (they're all positioned around a big open field) and realized that not a single fire was lit and there was not a single sound - no talking, no crickets, no nothing. It was 10:30pm. Again, we had all been camping before and understood quiet hours, but this place literally observes "silent hours". It definitely felt extreme. A few of us stayed up talking in near silent whispers (we could not hear each other at all unless we were sitting right next to each other) and eventually just went to bed.
The next day as we were getting ready to leave the campground for a few hours to explore nearby Freeport, another staff member pulled up to our site and came to talk to us. He told us that he had been notified of the complaints from the night before and again made a comment along the lines of "I don't want to have to call the cops on you...". We let him know that we were uncomfortable with the multiple threats of calling the police because we had truly taken all multiple measures to be quiet and respectful and it seemed so extreme that they would threaten that. Again we asked if we could relocate, and were told that was not an option. We let him know that we would not be a problem and he left.
That night, we moved our fire to our second campsite (since there were 8 of us we booked two campsites per the campground rules) which was right next to the bigger one we had originally been spending our time in. The second one had more trees around it which we hoped would block more sound, though we did have every intention of maintaining out light whispers at 10:00pm. A few minutes before 10:00, we turned off our music and kept our voices to whispers. At 10:09, a staff truck drove by and idled next to our campsite for a few minutes which had us on edge especially since we had been near silent and we weren't sure if we'd be threatened with police action again for no reason. No one got out of the truck or said anything to us, but it had us so on edge that we just called it a night and went to bed.
Overall, this was a really confusing and bad experience. I would never stay here again, even with family, because when I go camping I like to spend time with the people I'm with sharing stories around the fire while still being respectful of my neighbors. I've been camping many times at different campgrounds and have never had such an extreme experience as I did here. I can understand wanting to maintain a family-friendly environment, but you better hope that your family/friends/kids are absolutely silent after 10pm if you plan to stay here. We all wished that the extremely strict "quiet hours" policy had been made clear to use when we booked two sites for 8 adults - you would think they would give you a heads up.
