My wife and I had a layover in Miami after our honeymoon. We stayed at a nearby hotel and chose Mastro's for our final honeymoon dinner. We were served without a reservation and wasn't greeted right away. Maybe because we were not dressed too fancy, but I digress.
We were then greeted by "Mo" who was a very very good waiter. My review has nothing to do with Mo's performance as he is the only reason it was not a one star review.
We started with the bread, which tasted like stale church crackers. It left such a mess on the table that the busser came by and cleared it up before our meals.
We then had the crab cake which was pretty good, no complaints.
This was our final meal for our trip so we were excited to splurge and get a nice steak. I opted for the dry aged ribeye and my wife got the filet mignon. I requested the steak to be medium-rare, as I always do. My wife chose medium, as she is used to getting.
The meat came out and she cut into hers, it was rare. My wife hates sending things back, but given the price was upwards of $70 for a steak, I sent it back.
I cut into mine, it was blue. I sent mine back given it was over an $80 steak.
Mo was very apologetic and tried to fix the undercooked meat as he could see I was very unimpressed. I told him it wasn't his fault and that I was just upset because they are expensive cuts of meat and reheating a steak that was already taken off the grill will never taste as good if it was just done right.
He brought the steaks back out, and my wife's was cooked more like medium but was not as tender as it should've been since it already sat.
My steak was still pretty rare but was edible, I ate what I could but was very unimpressed.
The manager came out and apologized for the undercooked meat.
Mo brought us out a dessert for our honeymoon which was very nice of him.
Finally the check came, and the dessert as well as our two cocktails were comped. I told Mo, I don't have a problem paying for the cocktails, we really enjoyed those, I have a problem paying $80 for a steak that was very poorly prepared. Mo had it fixed for me, taking off the Ribeye and adding the cocktails back on.
Although I wish they would have taken both steaks off for the mediocre- reheated steaks, I understand it is a business and they need to make some money.
Long story short, we will not be returning to this Mastro's (we live in California) or any Mastro's for that matter. Hopefully we can see Mo again at a better steakhouse.
