This place is simply just great. It has everything you want of a hostel. It has a cool bar, with a view over the city, along with an awesome roof top terrace. The staff was super friendly, and the security really good. There's a nice kitchen, and two cool places to hang out on the ground floor, if you're not interested in the bar. The place was clean, and the beds had power plugs, and a little shelf - just as one traveller loves it. I was 100% satisfied with my stay there.

Stayed here for a few nights in 2017. First trip to a hostel and it was wonderful! Front staff is available 24/7, the rooftop bar has amazing views and is only surpassed by the amazing cafe connected to the lobby. Daily cleaning crews keep the entire establishment very pleasant. Never had issues with other guests bring loud or boisterous.

Excellent location and very nice place! the staff was friendly and very helpful. Rooms were clean, providing bed sheets and a big towel. Cleaning service every day to clean the toilets and take trash out. Bed was a bit old (the mattress) but comfy enough! The bar was really nice with a big terrace with beautiful views of the city! nice prices too! specially during happy hour :) The down side only may have been the breakfast, all-you-can-eat but could be more rich in variety:) Overall very recommendable!!

Best hostel I've been to in quite some time. View from the rooftop is worth the price alone. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and staff are exceptionally friendly. Only recommendation would be to stock more beers on tap at the bar! Great vibe, perfect location, and we will definitely stay here again.

This is one of the best hostels I've stayed at. I have not felt more safe in a hostel. We stayed in a 6 bed room which also had its own, clean, washroom with shower. The bar/ breakfast terrace is a really cool addition as well since the location gives a great view of the city. My only complaint is that the bar's loud music was quite audible from the room at night. It's not a problem when the windows are closed, but on a hot summer night it's unavoidable.

Google
Really satisfied with the stay. The people working there are very friendly / helpful. The atmosphere & decoration there are really cool / comfy. The welcome/reception is really "open": one drink is offered at the arrival at the top roof of the hotel. <= The "bar" there is open every night (and have by the way a good playlist of classical & pop rock songs). You can also meet new people there from all around the world, it's super nice. The district / area is really good located. There are a lot of things near to it (notably a "Rossmann" if needed). Finally, the prices are really good. Around 26€/night for a shared room of 6 (girl) persons.

My partner had stayed here before, which is why we came back. It certainly didn’t disappoint. The area of Berlin it was in was really good, with lots to do locally and everything was a small walk away. The hostel itself was welcoming, clean and a great place to stay. There was a lovely atmosphere, particularly in the bar, as well as people of all ages. We will be back!

Stayed in a six bed room with friends. There was plenty of space (lockers and a small table). Bathroom was good, with powerful shower. Bar on floor 7 played chart music and was cheap (about €3.50 for a single spirit and mixer). It was nicely busy on the Saturday night, but not too crowded. Would definitely recommend :)

Yelp
#moraalriddermodus I would like to post an update on the reaction of the management of Wombat's Berlin (on Tripadvisor) on my first review: "If you don't want to leave a deposit, your free to cancel your reservation. But you didn't leave your ID at the reception, just your driver license, so there isn't a problem with European laws because you still kept your ID. And you have another option to get a key: we can make a copy of your ID + 5,- € we keep as deposit." Let me be clear about this; I am not posting this update to bash the hostel. But imho it's really - really - important that our Personal Data is ALWAYS and ANYTIME protected and ho(s)tels are totally aware of the laws, regulations and/or guidelines in the EU. For more info check: http://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/ and for Dutch readers: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/identiteitsfraude DUTCH: Zorg altijd dat je je BSN volledig onleesbaar maakt op kopietjes van je paspoort/ID-kaart/rijbewijs! The reaction "just a drivers license" is a bit naive imho, because on (Dutch) driver's licenses there's still a Social Security Number printed on the back. Our government advises not to leave anything that has our social security number on it. That could be an European ID-card, passport, driver's license to name a few. Simply because of the risk of identity theft. And whether an employer of a ho(s)tel has already checked his/her employees (criminal record/behaviour), that's simply not relevant to guests. Besides that, as far as I know, the cards (deposit) in Wombat's Berlin are (unsafely) stored just behind the reception desk not in a locked vault to protect our personal data. The management mentioned another option in her reaction: "we can make a copy of your ID + 5,- € we keep as deposit", but this option wasn't actually offered at the time I was standing at the reception desk nor by some employees of your hostel that I had a friendly chat with. So that's a little too late to mention this option don't you think? I totally get that your hostel needs a deposit for the card that costs €3 to replace. One fully booked (6-pers) dorm makes € 120 a night so the loss of a €3 costing card would be devastating and a huge loss, right? (sorry for the sarcasm) Anyways: The option "copy ID + € 5" is a slightly better option, tho imo the hostel still doesn't NEED to make a copy of their guest's ID as a deposit for such a worthless item like a €3 magnetic card. TIP for travellers: Make a copy of your passport/ID-card/Driver's License at home before you leave. Use a permanent marker to hide your Social Security Number on the copy/copies and you can travel safely and hand the reception of a ho(s)tel a safe copy of your ID in case they really think they need it ;) Better safe than sorry ;) Safe travels folks!

Yelp
I didn't participate in any of the stuff while I stayed at Wombat. I needed a bed and bathroom and that is what I got and used. Had it been sunny, I probably would have been more inclined to use the kitchenette and balcony seating in my apartment. I did go to the Wombar which served its purpose to be a hang out place for its guests. There is a patio area, billiards in the back (I think), and plenty of sitting room. A word of caution for other Americans, their Nacho and Salsa is not what we consider nacho and salsa. We received dorito nacho flavored chips and sweet ketchup. My brother wasn't very pleased. I asked a friend who said this is what nacho and salsa means for hostels -- who knows!

Yelp
"The only complaint I have about this place is ... it's too awesome." --my husband's comment on the Wombats check-out feedback card. Bottom line: The Wombats brand rocks the hostel scene like no other, but even so, the Berlin Wombats is a true standout as far as hostels go. The good... 1) The 6th-floor apartment was ridiculously spacious for any European hotel, and it is complete with a couch, wrap-around balcony, fridge, stove, glasses, plates, flatware, wine opener--you name it. All for less than $100 (US dollars) a night (in August). The best deal in all of Europe. 2) The Wombar--rooftop bar with large deck and great views of Berlin--is the reason for the quote above. Happy hour boasts drink specials that include very decent sized beers for €1 and wines for €1.50. Guests and staff are friendly. Everyone just wants to hang out and chat with each other. We ended up spending more time in the Wombar than we should have. Meaning: We saw less of Berlin because we were having so much fun here, we forgot to go see the city! 3) Staff--they're friendly and helpful. They all speak perfect English, and they're all hipsters you wish you could be more like. 4) It's an all-ages venue! While it's a given that most hostels cater to the college-age, get-drunk-til-I-puke-on-your-shoes crowd, this place caters to everyone. There were guests there who were just learning to walk (and not because they had too much jager) and others who remember where they were when JFK took that bullet. And all are equally welcome ... by staff and guests alike. 5) Great location. It's about a 5 minute walk to Alexandeplatz, and about a 10 second walk to the U2 Rose-Luxemberg Platz stop, from which you can easily get almost anywhere in all of Berlin. The bad... 1) It's too awesome. Don't take my word for it. Book your flight. Book your Wombats room. And have a wonderful Berlin experience you'll never forget!

Yelp
My friends and I stayed in a 6 Bed Mixed Dorm room (~€22/person/night) and we loved this hostel! We lucked out and everyone in the room ended up being friendly non-snoring females. Our room was well lit, very clean, and comfortable. This hostel almost felt like a luxury hotel after our recent stay at a crappy hostel in London. The front desk staff was super chill and friendly to us the entire time we stayed at the hostel. They also spoke almost perfect English so it was easy asking for help/directions/recommendations or just having a conversation. The hostel itself is very cool and feels like a place for young adults. Pretty much everyone there was around our age (early-mid 20s) so it was easy meeting new people. The hostel has a rooftop bar but we never got to check it out because we were too busy exploring Berlin. Another thing I liked about Wombats City Hostel is that it's close to some really good cafes, restaurants, and shops. My friends and I would look on Yelp for lunch/dinner places and we would see all these affordable restaurants with 4 or 5 star ratings within walking distance. I cannot say enough positive things about our stay at this hostel. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
****SPOILER ALERT**** There are no actual wombats at this hostel (at least none that I saw) and hopefully none were harmed during the construction of this hostel. Alright enough of the silliness. Onto a positive review! I'll preface this review with stating that I recently backpacked Western Europe for 7 weeks. During my trek, my girlfriend and I stayed in many different hostels, B&Bs, cheap motels etc. and Wombats was easily our favorite hostel. Where to start? Oh, how about the friendly staff who will provide you with a map of the city? Or the rooftop bar with super cheap prices and great drink specials? Maybe you're all about location. Perfect because Wombats is just a couple of blocks from Alexanderplatz and several other metro stops. How about a great view of the city with the infamous Fernsehturm tower as seen through the window of your (very clean) room? Maybe you want to use free WiFi downstairs in the lobby? You could also always take advantage of the free storage room to store your luggage for a short time. Maybe you want to pay a couple extra euro for a pretty decent breakfast of yogurt, cold cuts, toast, juice etc? So as you can see I really enjoyed my stay here for all of the reasons listed above. I should also note that we came here just days before New Year's Eve and prices were probably a little higher due to the holiday but I found that this hostel was well worth the money since it literally had everything I could have asked for. Berlin ended up being one of our favorite cities on our trip and Wombat's most certainly added to our great experience.

Yelp
A fantastic hostel. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful, spoke great English, and the walls in the lobby have a lot of information helpful for the traveler. The location was pretty good; near some public transportation options. Wombats is clean, modern, and well-equipped. I highly recommend paying a little extra for a four-person dorm. The rooms are spacious, with in-room large lockers (provide your own lock), and ensuite bathrooms that were clean, spacious, and functional. There is a small light, small ledge, and power outlet next to every bunk bed. The rooftop bar is a terrific place. Lots of travelers and inexpensive drinks. There is an outdoor terrace to enjoy the beautiful view.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time at this hostel when I was in Berlin. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were able to give me all sorts of ideas for places to go for sightseeing, shopping, partying, etc. The bottom floor has a pretty good size common area with computers and vending machines that sold drinks. The kitchen looked clean with a pretty good sized fridge, but be careful if you put your food there... My pizza was STOLEN! :( The bottom floor is is connected to a restaurant place that has a buffet breakfast that's like 3.50EU (?) and you get an assortment of coffee, tea, juices, fruits, cold cut meats, rolls, cucumbers, tomatoes, cereals, and oatmeal. It was a pretty good deal if you didn't want to wander outside in the cold. I stayed in the 6 bedroom all females room and I would say I was really happy with it. It's basically bunk beds, with a little table and short stools to sit on. We had our own bathroom-sink, toilet, shower, and it was clean! The room was cleaned daily so everything was pretty spotless. Each bed had it's own plug and night light which I thought was very useful. The lockers were a good size and could fit a carry-on luggage. The lock is operated by your room key and so it was very secure. On the rooftop there is a bar where there were crazy drink specials from 6-8pm and 11-12am. 4 Jager bombs for 10EU!!! Not to mention pitchers of beers and mixed drinks for very reasonable prices. There's also a bucket hanging behind the bar on top of a doorway and if you are able to toss 1EU in it you get 3 shots of whatever you want. I pre-partied there every night before I went out since it was such a good deal. There's also a TV, pool table, and outside smoking area up there. It got pretty rowdy most of the time! The last thing I would mention about this hostel is the location. It was close to the U-bahn and there's lots of shops, food places, etc around the area so it's easy to navigate. It's def worth the price!

Yelp
I recently stayed at Wombats in Berlin and I was pleasantly surprised! It was my first experience at a hostel so I was quite nervous as I usually stay at regular hotels. It was very easy to locate and close to lots of shops and restaurants, as well as the metro and bus. Everyone at the front desk was super helpful and friendly. And they all spoke English too which was comforting to someone who doesn't know German! They have lots of tourist information and also post the daily weather report in the lobby. The room I was given was spacious with large lockers to store my personal belongings, and a private bathroom inside the room. To get to the rooms, it was secure card access after exiting the elevator which I found a very good idea!! There was free wifi access in the lobby and a nice breakfast daily also.

Yelp
I stayed here for 4 or 5 nights a couple months ago. It's really clean, in great condition, and the staff is helpful and they all speak English, which, you can probably tell from the language I'm writing this in, is a perk for me. I stated in a 6 person suite. It had a bathroom in the room, and it was cleaned every day! Also, each person gets a personal locker. The lock is hard to use at first, but once you figure it out, it's no big deal I highly recommend!

Yelp
NEVER again. This place has gone DOWNHILL, and FAST. This place has become terrible so quickly. 1) The night staff and day staff don't communicate with each other, and you get a different story about the rules from each one. 2) Our drivers' licenses were held as deposit for the room keys - then because of two room changes that we didn't really want to do (but whatever, we went with the flow) they lost our licenses. After a couple of days they mysteriously found them. 3) we had to change rooms twice, whatever, but the worst part was that before the second time we were told that the night staff couldn't confirm or take care of it and that we had to come at 8 AM. When we got there we were told that nothing is available anymore (in spite of all of their assurances) and that there was only one bed available for the two of us, or that we would have to pay for an apartment that only has one bed. Just another example of miscommunication. 4) We were guaranteed the ability to check out later, at 12, instead of at 10 AM (which is already a bad checkout time because it's supposed to be a party hostel!), only to be rudely woken up by a very nasty manager with a hostile tone pounding at the door at 10:20 saying we had to check out RIGHT NOW because people were coming to check in 4 hours later. Came back 20 minutes later while we were running around trying to clear out of that place (in spite of the Fake guarantee of the late checkout) and arrogantly said we had to get out already, and that if we wanted a late checkout we had to pay for it beforehand (as if everyone is supposed to know the hotel policy from birth). They are in the business - they should know that rules should be made clear. But even if the rule wasn't clear, they still had our licenses anyway. Was I really going to abandon my license for the €5 charge for late checkout? Of course not. 5) WiFi only works in the lobby and between 3-6 AM in other areas. The rest of the time the connection is too poor to do a google search or even check email. 6) I came to the Wombats Berlin for my vacation totally happy and relaxed, and left this miserable place angry, tense, and in need of a vacation that I will not get for a long time. Bottom line, if you don't mind fickle staff that aren't clear about any rules or availability, and then turn on you with more rules that are quite unreasonable with no problem wrecking your mood and killing the atmosphere, then this is the place to be. I will NEVER go back.

Yelp
I 100% ecommend this place. SSOOO clean. Staff was extreeeeeemely helpful and it was close to all the bars and the S/U Baun.

Yelp
Another hostel stay during the Euro tour- yay! Clean, in new condition, nice that they have a bar downstairs - that way you don't have to go out to go to the bar. Small dance floor, but we were able to make it work. The staff is really nice and very informative. Free wi-fi, close to supermarket as well as the stores.

Bardia E.

Yelp
Amazing! Very Clean. Friendly staff who know the city well and can direct you on what to check out. Location is great. You can rent a bike for 10 Euros next door and cruise around the city. Free wifi. Cheapest happy hour of all time. 1 Euro beers. I went there by myself and ended up meeting a big crew of people during happy hour. Had a lot of fun in the city - even if the bouncers at most clubs are giant douche bags. Highly recommend this place whether you are travelling by yourself or with a group.

Michelle P.

Yelp
This was the first hostel I stayed at and it was pretty great. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The entire place is decorated nicely and they have plenty of maps to help you out. It's a fairly decent price and everything is SO CLEAN. The bar was great. In fact, we preferred to go to the hostel bar instead of others. The bar also has access to an outside sitting area and it's a great place to meet new people. Staying at this hostel made my time in Berlin worthwhile.

Qype User (neuki…)

Yelp
Very nice hostel, great location - within walking distance of Hackescher Markt, Museumsinsel and other nearby sites and directly adjacent to the U-Bahn. We stayed in the 1-br apartment during a business trip, and it was quite comfortable and nicely stocked. No Internet in the room, though. The bar upstairs was reasonable - we were only disappointed that we arrived too late to enjoy our drinks out on the roof terrace. Friendly, helpful staff and nice atmosphere.

Mel A.

Yelp
I stayed at this hostel when I went to Berlin for eight days in May of 2012. The facility was simply excellent. The staff was very helpful, the rooms are clean and affordable, there is free wifi in the lobby, and they have both a kitchen so you can cook your own food AND a rooftop bar. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is traveling to Berlin and wants to stay at a nice, comfortable place on a budget.

Mark C.

Yelp
If you like to hang out with only Americans, Brits and Australians texting non-stop this place is for you. The rooms are fine and it's definitely cheap. But be cautious. We had no hot water the first night, the bar on the 7th floor is packed with loud and wasted Americans being stupid. Breakfasts are lame (unless you really like a roll). And the folks at the reception desks can be jerks. I booked 19 people for six nights. One girl in the group lost her breakfast ticket. The reception refused to give her another. A rule is a rule, as the Germans say. Oh and the elevator broke. Hey, but it's cheap.
