The pizza here is, of course, wood fired- and so are most of the dishes on the menu. I love that! There's nothing like the crisp yet chewy crust of a wood fired pizza, or the little charred bits on oven-roasted vegetables.
My husband and I had our first date here 11 years ago and this weekend we came back to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
I was surprised at how empty it was for a Saturday night, because this place has got it going on! Nonetheless, the dark and quiet scene added to the intimate vibe we were going for.
We ordered the Tampa Verde pizza (which is most likely the same pizza we ordered on our first date), and the roasted vegetables with pancetta. Paired with a couple of glasses of Chianti, it was the perfect evening.
The waitress, Karen, was absolutely lovely. She made us feel welcomed and comfortable while adding a feel like we were having dinner in someone's home.
It's important to note that the pizza here is Italian-style, which is different from NY-Style pizza. The crust is softer and chewier, and the pizzas are smaller. When I first came here years ago, it was my first experience with Italian-Style pizza and I was taken aback by the crust since I was used to NY-Style pizza where you pick it up with your hands and take a crunchy bite. I learned that since Italian style pizza has a softer crust, it is best eaten with a fork and knife. Now that I know the difference in pizza styles and crust textures, I have come to appreciate the Italian style and really am a big fan of it!
We just love this hidden gem. I could go on and on about the wonderful chew on the pizza crust here... it was superb!
