In West Virginia, a Small Town Feels the Impact of a New National Park

"Across the street, the Wood Iron Eatery was brimming with visitors from neighboring states like Ohio, downing breakfast before setting out for a day of whitewater rafting and rock climbing on neighboring rivers and ravines."

I love this little eatery. They really put their heart and soul into the everything they make. Whether it be a latte or entree. My husband and I are locals and have become regulars. I absolutely recommend this place. Everything I've eaten here has been great and the staff and service are just so kind and prompt. Also, did I mention it's in an awesome historical house?! My pic is the back entrance, where there's more parking, but still a cool view.

Google
The absolute cutest little eatery. Not only was the food delicious, but there was an entire playroom upstairs with a little climbing gym that our kids didn’t want to leave. Will definitely be returning with my family!

Google
Delicious food. Great breakfast place. It’s a house converted into a nice little breakfast restaurant. Service was great. Zoey’s Crush (the drink) was interesting and hard to decide if I liked it. The chicken and waffles were good and the Big burrito was delicious. Highly recommend.

Google
The cutest and yummiest little cafe! I ordered the loaded tots and absolutely did NOT regret my decision!! Featured is a cinnamon bun latte- again, delicious! Highly recommend!

While we were visiting the Fayetteville area, we looked for neat little places to eat. We found the Wood and Iron Eatery. We both loved the setting, décor and feel of the place, so many interesting choices of where to sit and dine. I ordered the fried chicken wrap which came with candied bacon, sriracha sauce, spring lettuce, pepper jelly, wrapped in a big tortilla. My wife ordered the big burrito which had 3 scrambled eggs with ham, cheddar, hash browns and sriracha sauce wrapped in a big tortilla. The total order was $27.93 and the food was delicious. Having an 80’s style arcade game (50 cents to play) was a nice touch. The game has several different options to choose from and I liked Ms. Pac-man the best.

I am visiting from out of state and wanted to check out a good coffee spot. Several in the area didn't interest me or the coffee was basic. I checked out Wood Iron and I appreciate receiving a cappuccino that was coffee with milk and not the other way around like many other places. Thank you for the delicious coffee. Location is an old building which looks cool in my opinion. Brought back some memories of when I used to live up north when I was younger. Had the breakfast burrito and it was really good too. Anyways, id love to visit this town again for the people I met last night while drinking and this eatery. Note, breakfast menu is small but definitely good. No complaints

Google
Nice Cafe with good food and service! The barista answered all my questions and food came out pretty quickly; when we left there was a line. Latte art 💓

Google
Such a cute place!! My husband enjoyed his chai latte, and my vanilla iced latte was pretty good as well. We both enjoyed our breakfast (we both got the American), the bacon was fantastic and the breakfast potatoes were delicious and crispy!! Update: we ended up going back a few days later for lunch which was also absolutely delicious!! Their chicken sandwich was just phenomenal, and we tried their iced Spanish latte, the barista was so friendly!! Definitely recommend!!

Yelp
Stopped here after a couple of morning hike and it was delicious, I wish we had enough time to stop once more! The drinks were great. the food was carefully crafted and made with purpose, and the service was friendly! There are a ton of great looking options on the menu and look forward to the next time I am in the area! The breakfast sandwich I had had a spicy homemade jelly which was great and very creative! The place looks small but there is plenty of room for people. I HIGHLY recommend to stop looking around and check this place out for your breakfast needs.

Yelp
An adorable spot for good brewed hot or cold coffee. Friendliest staff and quick to offer suggestions, which all items on the menu sound amazing. The tater tots were topped with fixings that will make any taste buds happy. The bacon here is amazing and you need to find this old house that serves up good food. If there is a need they solve it and serve up great service. Eat local and always eat their cheesecake if you can.

Yelp
OMG delicious. Burrito with added chicken and Frank's Hog Sauce is heaven. I wish I could eat it every day. That plus a Spanish latte is my favorite!

Yelp
This place is so cute & homey! We loved the vibe of it & the staff were so incredibly friendly! Upstairs are used books for sale & proceeds go to a local animal shelter. There's even a kid friendly area upstairs as well. Dog friendly! This was important because we had our fur baby with us. Seating is both indoor & outdoor. Food is phenomenal! We actually came here 2 days in a row because it was that great! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. You order at at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. You can sit inside or outside (outside is dog friendly) the staff is friendly and makes great recommendations. The food is fantastic. They have this compound butter they put on the waffles that's magical. They kick up the handheld breakfast Sammie with some hot honey and it haunts my dreams. If you are visiting #AOTG you have to check this place out.

Yelp
Off the charts food and service! Found this place in Fayetteville for breakfast and ate on the porch on a beautiful fall day. Don't miss woo

Yelp
This is a very cute, small cafe in an old house. You might easily miss it if you don't know where to look. The menu is not huge, but all the items were very well prepared and presented. I had a delicious smashburger, and my wife had the chicken and waffles. Also great was the ABC tater tots -- with advocado, bacon, and a chili aioli. The girls who run the place are very friendly, and this place definitely has a welcoming "come stay for a while" kind of vibe. Whether you just want a coffee or breakfast or lunch -- you can't really go wrong here.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a quaint cafe. Placed inside an old house and you're greeted by a friendly front of house lovely person who makes the delicious beverages. One man show in the back, prepping some seriously delicious burgers, sandwiches and tots. I had a vegan burger and my boyfriend had the chicken sandwich. We shared those amazing tots and none were left behind. What could have been a boring side salad were green deliciously complimented by house made lemon vinaigrette. Go here, you will be so happy you did!

Yelp
Loved visiting Wood Iron Eatery! I had The American and could have lived off those pickled peppers. Food was out quickly and prepared fresh. Such a cute little place too with local art hanging up.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Seriously do yourself a favor and grab a bite here. We were in town visiting and ate here each day! I thought there is no way it can be as good the second time... it was better! The chef here is on point, order it how it is on the menu and you won't be disappointed! And the fries and sauce are the best I have ever had! Well done wood iron keep doing your thing!

Terry M.

Yelp
Just what owners Jeff and Lori dreamed about - warm, welcoming place, delicious food, great coffee. Vegan and gluten free options. Wish we could have lingered longer, but we had hikes on the daily agenda. Lots of seating, inside and out. Super friendly staff. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rhianna S.

Yelp
Definitely recommend breakfast here. I will say however I think there is a limited menu on weekends because I didn't see the avocado toast. Overall still a good place to check out. The tots were my favorite out of what items we ate
google avatar

Blake H.

Yelp
An important hallmark of a restaurant that is confident in their offerings is a concise menu, and they nail this. There are just enough options to suit any palette and desire without being expansive. I personally went for the BIG burrito and it was delightful. Their wide selection of hot sauces added to the culinary experience as well. The ambiance is great, with a lively hipster feel that is fitting for a mountain town. The staff were lovely and did everything you could expect for a casual restaurant where your interaction ends when you receive your food. I would definitely return on a future trip to Fayetteville!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a breakfast plate with scrambled eggs. It was a nice, hearty breakfast before long day of climbing.

Yelp
What a cool place. Loved the location. Food was limited in selection but what we had was great. Check it out!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
The location is a wooden domicile uphill from the main street (or you can drive around to their hidden rear parking lot). It is quite charming. I find their business model puzzling in that they offer a larger kitchen menu on weekdays but only a small selection of baked goods on weekends, which doesn't make a ton of sense to me given that the weekends are when us non-locals would be more likely to be seeking a meal. What I was able to order was a splendid peach scone and an unremarkable chai latte, which did at least charge me up for my morning hike. Update: the larger weekday menu is worthy, and notably the tofu scramble here is tastier than the one I got across the street, but of course the reason I went to there is I couldn't get the food here.

Yelp
Great food and a unique dining experience. Kind of tucked away but well worth the wait. Great atmosphere and ambiance.

Carlos D.

Yelp
First time eating at this place was a last minute decision, we had our infant and toddler with us. We were greeted kindly and informed there was a play area for children up stairs. The food was FANTASTIC and the little ones enjoyed themselves as well. 10/10

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch during our travels through West Virginia. Food was delicious and the coffee really hit the spot!

Yelp
Food and coffee were awesome! Okay there was plenty of outdoor seating so we could dine with our dogs. They even provided some water for the pups. Love that this place is dog friendly and the food was good!

Yelp
This is our second time here. Last time was 10 years ago. Still as cute and quaint as I remember. Super friendly staff! My husband and I both ordered The Engineer which would have been amazing but, eggs came over easy instead of how we ordered it which was over medium and the avocado was not 100% ripe. My kids both ordered the waffle and they ate it all. My spanish latte was perfect! My husband latte, my daughter's hot chocolate and vanilla tea were all great too. Would definitely recommend to come here for a yummy breakfast.

Cathy M.

Yelp
Food is amazing, service was both warm and efficient, ambiance was casual and comfortable. Loved this restaurant in Fayetteville- we were here to visit New River Gorge National Park and enjoy the area, including this cool local restaurant.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! We got the the yogurt bowl and an egg dish- both delicious. The iced lattes were incredible. To top it off service is 10/10- friendly and helpful. Sad we were only passing through and could go to this place once! Absolutely worth the stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
Very quaint restaurant in-house downtown. Wonderful rockfish sandwich and salad. Good burger with salad. Parking available.

Yelp
Very cool coffee shop with breakfast sammies, granola & pastries. A nice relaxed bohemian vibe obviously treasured by locals.....note that it's a bit hard to find as it sits back well off the main drag and up hill despite the address. Find the back parking lot & you're golden. Counter ordering with business split between carry out and dine in at a few 2 top tables, a couple of ledge counter seating areas and a 'community' high top table. Nice place to avoid the 'same ol' breakfast places.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
I was a little shocked they only had 4 items on the menu. The latte and Granola I had were both great!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Came in on a local's recommendation after 6.5mi hike. Super friendly welcome from the staff and Jimmy the resident floof. The weekend was busy, so Monday they had a limited menu... but man oh man did the breakfast burrito hit the spot! Particularly like the spicy sauce to liven things up, and a whole panoply of sauces on the cafe shelf if you want more adventure.
google avatar

Dale S.

Yelp
Well.....waited for 40 minutes to place our order but, so worth it. The staff was lovely and the food...delicious. Once our order was placed, it only took about 10 minutes. The line to order was out the door which, is most often, a very good sign. I had the big burrito and my friend, the Engineer. Both were amazing. Well worth a little wait.

Alicia S.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for brunch today. He got the burrito and it was DELICIOUS. I ate some of it too, it was big and well quality. He got a side of tator tots and some of their sauce. It was okay. Nothing extravagant. I got an iced coffee and a Belgian waffle. The coffee was not good in my opinion. It was very strong. If you like a bold brew, you'll love it. My waffle was not great. It had honeycomb butter which was good but the waffle itself was really chewy and had no taste. For all of the food it was 40$. I think it was overpriced but that may be normal for this area? I don't think we will be going back though.

Emma B.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant! The owners were amazing so kind and giving! The food fantastic-I got the fries and chicken wrap while other people in my party got breakfast, burgers, fish, and coffee and thought the same! Would 10/10 recommend! The place is so cute and charming and wish we had this in our town!

Eathan G.

Yelp
I had the best burger of my life here, I eat burgers at almost every restaurant I go to and this blew every other burger out of the park the burger sauce was just right, the patty was seasoned and grilled perfectly, as the cherry on top the cucumber gave it the perfect crunch and extra flavor.

Ann-Marie Y.

Yelp
I was so impressed with the food. I got the breakfast burrito. It was a handheld burrito with eggs, tater tots, cheese, and an amazing sauce. It would be just as good in a bowl if you don't want the tortilla. My friend got the hot chocolate and the yogurt bowl with granola, fruit, and honey. It was perfect and so filling. I want to try the yogurt bowl next. This is a must for everyone!

Adam C.

Yelp
The food here was phenomenal! We had the imperial with over easy eggs and the loaded tots. Can't begin to rave enough over the bacon and how fresh the avocado tasted. The sauce on the loaded tots should be bottled and sold in the store, I'd buy a case! If you don't make this place a stop driving down 19 then it is your loss!!!!

Yelp
Not many people can say their aunt's old house is now a restaurant. It's actually been a couple of things in Fayetteville as the years have passed. I thought I'd take the journey today to check out Wood Iron Eatery. I've tried before, but they close at 2:30 pm. So, I made a specific morning trip to grab their breakfast. My aunt passed away in 2016, and her husband has since passed, so I hold my memories near and dear. The outside of the building has been beautifully restored. The inside is absolutely nothing like I remember. The Wood Irom Eatery's dining area was once my aunt's living room. It's kind of strange because it seems like just yesterday I was sitting on a couch talking to my aunt. I remember her telling me the upstairs was haunted and that the chandeliers would rattle in the dark of the night. I also remember her telling me that the building dated to or before the Civil War Era and was once the home of a Civil War General or high-ranking official. I need to brush up on my Fayetteville history because I bet you ten years ago, I would have known his name right off the bat. I chose the burrito as my meal. It was jam-packed with scrambled eggs, ham, tater tots, cheese, sriracha, and hot sauce. It was really massive. The cost for one of these colossal burritos is $9.75. Very filling! For a Monday in Fayetteville, I'll add that this restaurant was quite busy. I was impressed by the amount of foot traffic. And it felt so nice. It warmed my heart to hear laughter and positive vibes in my aunt's "old haunted house." RIH Auntie

Yelp
This place, you guys! Right off (behind) the "main drag" in Fayetteville, Wood Iron was such a breath of fresh air. I mean, let's be honest- the eating establishments in this aeea are not only few and far in-between, most are also lacking the creativity with which this place is overflowing. It's a hip place.. beautifully presented foods such as avocado toast and breakfast burritos, and interesting drinks to boot! My husband ordered the breakfast burrito minus meat, I did the Napoleon tots. Tots for breakfast? Oh well.. as I shrugged and decided they're just tiny hashbrown nuggets. It's practically a hash.. in slightly different format. The things you tell yourself in order to consume a glorious bowl of potatoes, green onions, avocado and spicy aioli. It surely set the pace for a happy day ahead. Since they basically begged us to order the vanilla poundcake, calling it the best ever around.. we did order a slice of that - you know, to go with our Spanish latte & cappucino. The patio was the best place for us- a little people watching, a lot of sunshine, and a couple smiles for being in one of the nicest areas we've been within US borders. Loving WV, and certainly coming back to this place very soon! That avo toast has my name on it.

Yelp
Good service and Amazing breakfast burrito. Satisfying after a day of rafting. Recommend

Yelp
A quick trip to West Virginia led us to this quaint breakfast eatery. Delicious food and coffee. Totally recommend if around the area.

Yelp
Delicious food! Best breakfast burrito I've ever had! The atmosphere is relaxed, and the outdoor seating is peaceful

Delicious food and wonderful vibe! Taylor made an exceptional iced caramel latte. Thank You!

Yelp
Amazing coffee, amazing good and amazing staff . Weekends have a limited menu but is still delicious and even better- quick!

Yelp
The burrito was awesome and my wife loved her Napoleon Tots. Service was nice and the one has a wonderful voice!

Yelp
Fantastic staff and excellent food. A "Good Vibe" kinda place for all, families welcome. The smash burger, tots and BLAT were great.

Yelp
If you are in the Fayetteville area visiting the national parks and want great food, stop here. It has weird hours so make sure you know they are open. We came here after a hike at long point. I had the OG chicken sandwich which was great but be warned it has some kick to it. My wife had the blat (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) sandwich which was excellent also. Each came with a small side salad. You can tell they take pride in their food. The kids shared a chocolate waffle with a side of bacon and they loved it. It doesn't have a ton of seating but does have inside and outside seating. The prices are kind of high for their portion size. I never complain about prices because you usually pay for what you get but this one kind of seemed a little steep, but we would come back here in a heartbeat.
google avatar

Russ D.

Yelp
We love the service, love the food, and love the atmosphere. First time here, and are very happy we chose this place.

Trevor F.

Yelp
We were initially disappointed because they were operating on a limited menu... but then the food and coffee came. Ordered all four items on the menu and the four of us shared. All the food was great! the staff was swamped but cheerful and explained the wait. I'm glad we decided to try this place and would come back again.

Yelp
Cute little cafe in the heart of Fayetteville. Came here after an exhaustive Kaymoor miners trail, which is less than 10 minutes from here, and couldn't have made a better choice. The house granola had fresh fruits and wasn't too sweet, which I really like. The iced Spanish latte was refreshing after a rigorous hike in the heat. This is a great spot for post (or pre) activities at New River, and the creepy (but colorful) paintings on the wall offer a unique touch.

Yelp
I often stop here for a Cappuccino and a bite after taking my morning walk. Favorites are the pound cake, scones, and BLAT (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, and Tomato) on a delicious roll. One day, about a month ago, I totally forgot to brink money with me, and the owner comp'd my meal. You can eat indoors or outside on the deck overlooking downtown Fayetteville. There's a parking area around back. All in all, a great place to enjoy a drink and a bite.
