15 Best Breweries in Charlotte

"Located in South End, a neighborhood filled with active young professionals, Wooden Robot is a low-key, welcoming space with couches, cozy nooks, and long, banquet-style tables. This is a great place to take a group—the vibe is lively and energetic, and a diverse beer list means that everyone will find something to drink, whether they're craving an IPA, a sour, a saison, or a Belgian. Although the beers aren’t technically certified gluten-free, they are gluten-reduced thanks to an enzyme that brings down the gluten content." - Lauren Levine

Google
Wooden Robot was a really fun and quirky brewery, with great IPAs and an awesome outdoor setup. I loved the artwork that adorned the walls of the establishment, which even included a great piece of art in the restroom! Like I said, my IPA was great, and was just one of the many that the brewery had on the menu. Overall, Wooden Robot was an awesome brewery, and I'd love to come back in the future to try some more of their brews!

Had a 4 1/2 hour layover after spending a week with my bro in Miami on my way to Munich (Oktoberfest). 12 Dollar for the fries and the burger.. great Pilsener selection. Would come here again. Service is fast and friendly.

Matt N.

Google
Run, do not walk, and buy some Currywurst (they call it curry fries) while they still have it on the menu for Oktoberfest. I lived in eastern Germany (Leipzig) for 2 years, and Currywurst is everywhere. The brat is American level spicy, actual German brats are much milder. But the sauce is absolute perfection. Pairs well with the Botoberfest bier. Prost!

Google
Great selection of beers. Extremely friendly staff. They were offering me samples every time I went up to the bar. Food is limited, but very fresh. My daughter loved the chips and queso. The chicken sandwich was fresh and not greasy. It does need some hot sauce or more flavor in the breading. My husband liked his cheeseburger, but for a smash burger it was missing the buttery crispy edges, French fries are a must. Get a full size order. They would do so well if they offered all kinds of dipping sauces. The fries are so good, but hearty enough to withstand some added pizzazz of mayo, ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, and cheese based dips. We’ll go back or even try the NODA location.

Our first stop in Charlotte. Huge, clean Brewery with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. I had the Robitico, it was clean crisp and refreshing.

Google
Absolutely fantastic coffee spot! The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, with a stylish loft-style interior that makes it a great place to relax or get some work done. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. The coffee here is top-notch. I first ordered a cappuccino along with some crab cakes, and both were absolutely delicious. Later, I decided to try a cortado, and it was just as excellent. Highly recommend this place if you appreciate great coffee and a cozy ambiance!

Google
This place is incredible for Celiacs like me! My fiancé and walked in here during our vacation not knowing that almost ALL of the beers are gluten reduced - what an amazing surprise that was for me! I was able to try so many styles of beer (most for the first time ever) and had absolutely no gut issues or reactions afterwards. For those who don't care about the gluten - my fiancé said there's no way he could tell the beers were gluten reduced, and he would definitely order them again if he saw them on the menu. 10/10, would recommend to anyone with gluten intolerance or Celiacs. I recommended the sours, especially True Survivor!

Google
Stopped by super early and ordered a beer from the coffee bar area. This is a really nice brewery with friendly service and a comfy atmosphere.

Yelp
Love this brewery! I've been both during the day and evening/ night and it's such different vibes but so fun regardless of when you go and the vibes match the time of day!!! It's so hard to park in south end so I love that they have a small lot across the street for free parking. At night, they have the outdoor area and inside beer garden open. There are lots of TVs with sports, plenty of drink options and a full menu. During the day, the left side of the brewery is open. It's smaller but plenty of seating. Not a great place to work from as it was loud, but plenty of people there for a coffee/lunch break from work. You can obviously order beer but they also have a full coffee menu and their full food menu as well. The coffee was pretty good! The salad was pretty basic but still good. Love the vibes!!!!

Yelp
Pros: - service was pretty quick - the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was good, well seasoned - the matcha latte was a lot better than I expected and the Pine Nut's latte was yummy too Cons: - none I could really think of Comments: - went right when it opened, wasn't super busy, but customers were definitely coming in and out - there's a lot of seating, I like the aesthetic and ambiance of the place, very chill and relaxing

Yelp
I had a great lunch here with a friend recently. This was my first time trying Wooden Robots food. I was here coworking with a friend unexpectedly because the first place we went was having some really loud repair work. So we just walked down here and there was plenty of seating inside and outside. First we sat outside but moved inside looking for outlets for our laptops and there really weren't any outlet options at all. We lucked up with one near their freezer, but people kept going in and out of it unfortunately. The food was great! I ordered some wings and a salad. Both were pretty tasty and I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Wow what a place. One of the coolest spots I visited in Charlotte coupled with some of the nicest people. Who would've thought the best coffee in Charlotte is coming out of a brewery. These people really know what they're doing and really care about putting out the best product possible. I was able to chat with them and they were super passionate about finding the best coffees to serve as well as serving it the best they can. The barista made sure that my shot was perfectly dialed before serving me. The coffee was very good, and was easily the best coffee I had in Charlotte. I made sure to grab one to go. There was also tons of seating and a very comfortable space to hangout. Can't wait to visit again and hopefully try even more of their stuff! Thanks!

Yelp
Get your passport ready for these flights. About $17 and worth every penny and drop. We ordered 2 flights and got to taste 10/15 flavors of beer. Loved it!! Espresso martini was strong but tasty.

Yelp
Awesome indoor and outdoor space. A solid menu of in-house brewed beers. Great offerings of food. And a staff that's second to none!! Bring your friends. Bring your dog. Hell!! Being your mom!! Just hurry down to Wooden Robot. You'll be happy you did!!!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in South End - best bang for your buck food and drink wise for sure. Our favorite time to go is Tuesday for trivia night! Good food, amazing staff and great vibes. One of the best!
google avatar

Gabby K.

Yelp
I've been to Wooden Robot before for trivia, but decided to try out their coffee and breakfast options, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I had an iced caramel latte and really liked that the syrup is made in house. I can always tell the difference and it makes a $6 latte feel worth it. It wasn't too sweet and the milk didn't overpower. The breakfast sandwich was also delicious! It was filling, but not too heavy, which is key for me for a casual breakfast. They didn't have a big selection, but I always can go for a sandwich, so I didn't mind. I chose to sit outside and the food came right to us and pretty quickly. I didn't wait more than 10 minutes. I like that there is indoor and outdoor seating available, so if you have a pet, this is definitely a great place to check out!! Excited to go back and try a seasonal drink as well.

Yelp
Came here for a date night and had a great time! There's 2-hour free street parking if you're lucky--first come, first serve. Otherwise, the nearby lot is $18 flat via app. It wasn't too crowded, and we walked right up to the bar to sample some beers. The beer names were super fun--my fave name was "I'll have what she's having." I went with Spring Fling. Light and tasty! Food rotates seasonally. My partner got a burger, and I had the pita falafel--both solid picks. Food came out fast and we just grabbed a number after ordering at the bar. What I loved most? The music was chill--not too loud inside or out. We could actually talk! We sat outside, enjoyed the breeze, and counted seven dogs on the patio. So fun. Cashing out was quick and easy. All in all, a relaxed and fun spot. Would totally come back!

Yelp
Delicious coffee at a Brewery? Yes! Plus parking in the morning is never a problem. Josh was very pleasant. The facility is clean. I didn't use the restroom this time but I have in the past and it's always clean. There's a nice variety of coffee options and they're available hot or iced. Today they didn't have any tops for the iced coffee so I opted for hot. I look forward to the upcoming fall menu.
google avatar

Yelp
I would give this brewery/coffee stop a higher review, however, I was not a big fan of the iced mocha with oat milk that I had. The staff were friendly and the drinks were moderately priced for what we purchased. The ambiance was also nice with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The location works in that one side has more of the brewery options while the other side houses the coffee options to choose from making it a unique setting for both the beer and coffee drinkers alike. Overall, I quite enjoyed the layout and style of this brewery, I just felt that the coffee itself that I had chosen was a little too sweet and did not taste like any other mochas I have drank previously.
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot. The seating area itself is abundant with tons of options and is definitely worth hanging out in. Could definitely see playing corn hole or a board game here. The staff were super nice, attentive, and willing to answer any questions. The beer itself was fine, there were 3 IPA options and I didn't love any of them but they were decent. But they had a fairly nice selection of beers otherwise with non-beer options, as well. So it probably would be good for a group of diverse beer tastes. Worth stopping in at.

Yelp
Aesthetic: Upbeat, bright brewery in the heart of Southend with a wide variety of beers on draft. My Favorites: It's not technically local, but I loved the Bludacris cider since it's gf friendly. Experience: We were waiting for a dinner reservation, and we decided to wait and have a drink at Wooden Robot. I've recently transitioned to gluten free, so the Bludacris cider was one of the only options I could have. It was delicious and not too sweet for a cider. The atmosphere was lively and bright, and we enjoyed our short hang out here. We will definitely try it again, when in Southend.

Yelp
Happened to be in the neighborhood and popped into Wooden Robot. How could you not stop in with a name like that. The place was deceptively larger than I thought it was. The bartender was very friendly and welcoming. I explained our party of 4 had never been before or had any of their brews. The bartender was happy to pour samples of different beers for all of us and we all decided on one we enjoyed. I had the basil sour which was refreshing. We quickly discovered the place had a second bar in a larger room with plenty of seating and a nice outside patio. A menu with light fare was available however we stuck to just an afternoon pint. I would definitely recommend popping in and trying one of their craft brews and possibly a quick bite to eat.
google avatar

Stephen D.

Yelp
Typically breweries can either do really good beer or really good food. Rarely can they do both. This place is that exception. Loved the Space Magic IPA and the Pops Leicht. I would come back for the beer alone. However, the food...my god the food...was incredible. The smash burgers, wings and fries were amazing. We got the fries with the sauce flight. Although the sauces were all delicious, we fought over the curry ketchup and house made ranch. Great place to eat, drink and watch college football

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer and stayed for the atmosphere. Great bar area and outdoor patio as well as food! Outstanding selection of beers that made me feel like a kid in a candy store- all styles represented- and the cocktails sounded good too! I'm not a local, but if I was, I would join the once-a-week club- especially for a sporting event. I will definitely be back the next time l'm in the area!
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
I didn't drink any beer when I was here, just as a preface. The coffee is very good, espresso martinis are top notch. The service was friendly and quick. The vibes here are very chill and there is a ton of seating.
google avatar

Yelp
What's not to love about Wooden Robot? Great place, awesome people and fantastic beer! It's a win win! You can't go wrong with any of their staples - good morning Vietnam or Overachiever are my two favorites. Then their smaller batches are also great! They also have non-beer options - wine, kombucha, soft drinks, so there's something for everyone. Their food menu is also legit and the portions are good. Just a great spot in south end for everyone to enjoy - and there's ample outdoor space for your pup as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Charlotte is a brewery destination. It seems like there's one on every corner. I visited more than a handful of different places during our visit to Charlotte, and Wooden Robot was a winner. For starters, the staff here was amazing. We sat at the bar, and there was a great rotation of bartenders who were super friendly and attentive. It seems like the ones I talked to were longtime employees, which I feel like says a lot about a place. Additionally, one of the bartenders even gave us recommendations on which other breweries we should prioritize - and we valued that opinion a lot! The space is huge - bar seats, high-tops, and a sprawling outdoor space make for a fun hang. To my surprise, they also have a bustling coffee shop attached. There's nothing I love more than beer and cold brew: an essential to my food pyramid. For beers, there were many enticing options. We had a Botbier (foeder-aged farmhouse ale), Good Morning Vietnam (coffee vanilla blonde ale), QC Gold (golden lager), Strawberry Swirl It (fruited sour), and Riwak n' Roll (New Zealand-style pilsner). The Strawberry was a dark horse - it was recommended by the bartender, so we sampled a 5 oz. It was TASTY! I'm picky about strawberry beers, but this one was just the right amount of sweet + tart without tasting artificial. I also deeply enjoyed the Good Morning Vietnam - I love a good coffee beer! Everything we had, I would drink again. There are TVs playing local sports, and there are some funny art and photo ops, if those are your thing. Wooden Robot is a must-stop amongst Charlotte breweries.

Yelp
Popped down to Charlotte, NC this weekend for HeroesCon and found this terrific microbrewery + kitchen + coffee shop. Try the chicken sandwich, the Good Morning Vietnam (coffee vanilla pale ale!) and the cinnamon vanilla latte. Wonderfully nerdy too - LotR on the TV and Darth Vader on the bar! Super friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Kemal K.

Yelp
It's literally located on a train station stop. Such a hip area to be in. But this brewery serves up some of the greatest local beers, big tvs for sports, and a view of some of the coolest trains (this includes the local train and the Norfolk Southern).
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
I was recently in Charlotte just for a weekend and was recommended this brewery by our waiter at lunch. The vibe was so cool because you have a brewery side as well as a coffee shop side but they are connected. If you want to watch games on TV and hang out with a bigger group of friends and maybe grab some food, they have a really great patio on the beer side. But, if you want to either have a beer or coffee and get some work done or meet with a friend the coffee shop side is perfect for a more intimate spot. Everybody was so helpful and I would definitely be back. Super cool spot and dog and kid-friendly!
google avatar

Jennifer E.

Yelp
Stopped by super quick after coming from an event next door. Very open layout with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. From what I could tell, this place is dog friendly, and there were a lot of cute doggies around. First time at this location. Parking is chaotic. It's in Sound End. They do have a little parking lot across the street, but if it's full, there is street parking if you are able yo snag one. Employees were super friendly. The bartender was quick and efficient. Bathrooms were clean as well. I can see this place getting pretty busy on nights and weekends. I didn't see any games around at this location unless I missed them. I do know they serve coffee at this location. They have food also, but I didn't try any. Wouldn't mind stopping by again if I'm ever in the area.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
Beer was cold and at a good price for a brewery in South End. Would like to see a larger beer selection given the size of the brewery.

Justice O.

Yelp
I had a long Layover in Charlotte and needed a place to hang for a few hours! This place is not only super clean it's such a cool establishment! Great food/drinks and such an amazing staff! 10/10 will most definitely be stopping by the next time I'm in Charlotte!
google avatar

Tiara B.

Yelp
This was the first brewery we headed to in Charlotte after landing. Hazy beers are always what I'm looking for and wooden Robot has got that! It's in a nice walkable area and the inside is huge, they service coffee which is nice for those who may not want to have an alcoholic beverage. They also serve food if you'd like to grab a bite to eat while you're there. We had eaten lunch previously so we didn't order anything to eat. There is ample space inside with tables and couches included. They have an outdoor patio where you can enjoy your beers on! Overall I liked the chillness of this place and the IPA's were on point.
google avatar

Elysia P.

Yelp
The entrance walks you into a rustic brewery with a hidden gem, a coffee bar. They pull double shots so I ordered a quad and my coffee was creamy and delicious with their house made syrups. The service was quick and the barista was very friendly. I would love to come back and try the beers one day if I'm back in town. It is dog/pup friendly which is a big plus for me since I love to bring my pup places. I enjoyed my short time here and again, the coffee was Amazing!!!!
google avatar

Haley P.

Yelp
Enjoyed a couple beers and some good bar food here last night. I liked the dry hopped sour and also tasted the cinnamon coffee blonde ale, it's not my usual type of beer but it was really good! This seems like a good spot for large groups especially, they have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The bartenders were friendly and quick!
google avatar

Sammie S.

Yelp
The food is stellar. Not many breweries can pull off a great kitchen, good beer, and good coffee. Service is fast but also with a smile and some quick wit. Every team member could you laugh. Also the menu is seasonal! Which is refreshing and make going there all the more fun. This is a place you gotta get to at least once.
google avatar

Chelsea P.

Yelp
We were here on a Saturday night around 9 pm. It wasn't crowded in the slightest. There is a great outdoor area to hang out in and there is plenty of room if you have a large crew. Our bartender was great and had gods suggestions and allowed us to sample a number of beers before picking one. I was so pleased when I found out they serve flights. Variety is the spice of life after all. The beer was solid. I would go back to wooden robot anytime
google avatar

Carmen S.

Yelp
Pros... Nice place to sit. Cons... Only 4 drinks on tap and hardly anything on the drink menu. They don't have a full bar so there are only 2 or 3 options worth your time. The line took about 15 minutes and the barista didn't know the menu. She pointed to a dirty chalkboard that you could barely read and told us that there were at least 4 places within walking distance that were better. Will never go back.

Charles J.

Yelp
Woah! This place is great. Tons of space for inside and outside beverages and killer beer selection. Also, looked in a good area with other establishments close by it's definitely worth checking out if you like breweries and are in Charlotte! Was happy with the service too. Everyone was helpful and the place had a cool vibe.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Nice laid back atmosphere with some great beers. The bar tender insisted we try the "Good morning Vietnam" as he said it's the beer they are mostly noted for. He was absolutely right and gave other good descriptions and recommendations of other beers.
google avatar

Nikki K.

Yelp
Super cute spot, plenty of seating with games and books available. Our beers were good and service fast and kind. I would definitely be back.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Beer was a solid 3 stars, location was 5 stars. The beer was all so light, I'm curious if Charlotte has a ABV limit? They were okay, but not something I'd go back for. I had the flight I was surprised at how big the pours were! Lots of outdoor seating, dog friendly, once trivia started there was a huge crowd. Definitely seemed like the place to be!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
I was told good morning Vietnam was the best beer in town and I was not let down! Loved the indoor/ outdoor space with plenty of seating. The staff was excellent at making sure tables were kept clean and gave great beer recommendations. They have an excellent selection of beers for people with all preferences. Highly recommend stopping by!
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
I visited Wooden Robot for their Thursday night Trivia and had a blast! It was a packed house with a great vibe, especially for a chill night getting to know some new friends. I tried one of their fruity sour beers which was pretty yummy, especially since I'm not the biggest beer fan. I loved the variety of options and unique names for their drinks! There was parking available in a nearby garage and plenty of seating inside.

Christine C.

Yelp
Love the bar! Food is always good and beers are solid! My husband recently discovered their coffee shop and now it's my favorite coffee place in South End. I recommend everyone go there! Staff is always great!!!
google avatar

Carolyn K.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick coffee and just had to stay for the cool atmosphere and the fun chatter with the baristas. Grabbed a cappuccino with oat milk and it was delicious - perfectly done, and with impeccable presentation. The barista and I chatted up some new coffees he's purchasing, and just made the experience that much more fun. It was the perfect break to my really hectic day. Didn't get a chance to try the beers but will be back soon to dive in
google avatar

Cohen M.

Yelp
Some of the best beers in Charlotte. Staff is always amazing. Chamber location is a vibe. South End is cool for the food, liquor, and even coffee shop!
google avatar

He Said She Said ..

Yelp
He Said: My initial review reflected how I felt at the time, but as a review team we've changed some of what we do on Yelp. We generally don't review breweries now because, despite how often we go to them, we want to only review bars and restaurants. We'll do a brewpub on occasion, but want to stick to food or bars. All that said, and for this time, I will update my end of the review: the beers are really good and the space is so much better (for me) after the expansion. It feels less cramped and a much easier and welcoming place to hang out. The staff is great and has been on all of our recent visits. We've been back 4 or 5 times since the initial review and will come back any time we can. She said: As he noted, we're a fan of Wooden Robot. The food is good. The beer is good. Every member of the staff with whom we've interacted is awesome. We have three spots that we always recommend in Charlotte, and Wooden Robot is definitely one of them. Potty Points: No trip to the potty for me on this visit!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Nice brewery, indoor and outdoor spaces, service at the bar was pleasant and friendly. Indoor space was a bit dark but clean. We sat outside in the patio area, long tables under roof. Lots of dogs and tables were worn down a bit - area could be cleaner. Beers were great, lots of options. Got the fries and top fries we had on our trip. Hand-cut, fresh and delicious. Nice side to dip as well.
google avatar

Allison W.

Yelp
Huge sitting room with cool vibe. Trivia on Tuesday is great but very packed. Get here early for parking and to get a table. I got the blueberry lemon cider. It was delicious and $6.50. My friend got the Tall vibes. It tastes like generic beer.
google avatar

Latonya P.

Yelp
If you like beer or cider you'll like it. I'm not much of a beer fan but I tried a sour and turns out it wasn't bad! Picnic style seating and spacious seating inside. Food truck offering bbq arrived shortly after 6 and they have a small souvenir shop too! Right off the 36th Street Station of the light rail and if your like us you stumbled onto a free jazz concert compliments of Lynx
google avatar

Kristy W.

Yelp
The Wooden Robot Brewery was so clean and really focused on earthy stuff and minimalist layout. They weren't only good for a brewski, they also served coffee. I ordered a Moroccan Mint Tea and my friend a Caramel Latte both were superb and I wish had something close this at home. The service was great, friendly, and our barista kept us laughing the whole time.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
Service is great, they have their beers clearly displayed, they offer flights/half pours/full pours, have a self serve water tap, and are dog friendly inside and outside. Plenty of seating as well! I love the new coffee shop addition. Parking is on the street.
google avatar

Zara T.

Yelp
Drinkable beers, I haven't been wowed by any so far. I would classify myself as a beer drinker though, and it seems like they're taking some risks on their brews. It's only a matter of time!! This is the Good Morning Vietnam. It's lighter than expected, but again, drinkable. There are so many to try that I probably wouldn't get again. But if I had it at a party, I would be content. Lots of outdoor seating and it's dog friendly! So yes, I'll be back to continue tasting!
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
This Wooden Robot location is great! They have large indoor seating and outdoor patio areas, which makes it really nice! The staff is great and friendly and the beer and food options are really good! You can't go wrong with any option you choose. They are located in the Southend area, on South Tryon/Summit. You can get here on the light rail, driving or scooter very easily. This location has a great vibe and is around many other establishments in the area - restaurants, breweries, bars, etc. Definitely stop in and give them a try!

Stef B.

Yelp
The burger and fries were amazing. The service was friendly and prompt. We had a flight of beer and every single one we tried was top notch.
