15 Best Breweries in Charlotte

"Located in South End, a neighborhood filled with active young professionals, Wooden Robot is a low-key, welcoming space with couches, cozy nooks, and long, banquet-style tables. This is a great place to take a group—the vibe is lively and energetic, and a diverse beer list means that everyone will find something to drink, whether they're craving an IPA, a sour, a saison, or a Belgian. Although the beers aren’t technically certified gluten-free, they are gluten-reduced thanks to an enzyme that brings down the gluten content." - Lauren Levine

Absolutely fantastic coffee spot! The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, with a stylish loft-style interior that makes it a great place to relax or get some work done. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. The coffee here is top-notch. I first ordered a cappuccino along with some crab cakes, and both were absolutely delicious. Later, I decided to try a cortado, and it was just as excellent. Highly recommend this place if you appreciate great coffee and a cozy ambiance!

Wooden Robot Brewery is a gem in the heart of the city, offering an exceptional selection of craft beers that cater to both seasoned aficionados and newcomers alike. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, complete with rustic wooden accents and a lively vibe that makes it an ideal spot for socializing or unwinding after a long day. One standout beer is their "Ghost in the Machine," a New England IPA that boasts a hazy appearance and a burst of tropical fruit aromas. Each sip delivers a delightful balance of juicy hops and a smooth mouthfeel, making it dangerously drinkable. The citrus and stone fruit flavors linger pleasantly, leaving you eager for another round. The brewery also offers a rotating lineup of seasonal brews, including stouts, sours, and lagers, ensuring that there’s always something new to try. The knowledgeable staff are more than happy to guide you through their offerings and recommend food pairings from their onsite food trucks, which complement the beer perfectly. In addition to the outstanding beer, Wooden Robot Brewery frequently hosts fun events, from trivia nights to live music, creating a sense of community that keeps patrons coming back. Whether you're stopping in for a quick pint or planning a leisurely afternoon with friends, Wooden Robot Brewery is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience top-notch craft beer in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Google
Parking beside the brewery that shows paid IS NOT the breweries parking - their free lot is somewhere across the street from the front doors. Never found it. The beer we had was very good & like the location. Afternoon & people were ordering lunch - all served on paper baskets w plastic spools - pet peeve of mine: not having real plates & cutlery. Washing is better than wasting & filling up landfills.

Google
Wooden Robot was a nice brewery experience. It was pretty busy on a Thursday night with tons of corporate meetups it looked like. There was a large tap list and plenty of space/food options as well.

Google
Stopped by super early and ordered a beer from the coffee bar area. This is a really nice brewery with friendly service and a comfy atmosphere.

Google
Pretty cool spot. The seating area itself is abundant with tons of options and is definitely worth hanging out in. Could definitely see playing corn hole or a board game here. The staff were super nice, attentive, and willing to answer any questions. The beer itself was fine, there were 3 IPA options and I didn't love any of them but they were decent. But they had a fairly nice selection of beers otherwise with non-beer options, as well. So it probably would be good for a group of diverse beer tastes. Worth stopping in at.

Google
Nice, sizeable open-air brewery with good beer and food. Service is very good as is the atmosphere.

Google
Stopped by super quick after coming from an event next door. Very open layout with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. From what I could tell, this place is dog friendly, and there were a lot of cute doggies around. First time at this location. Parking is chaotic. It's in Sound End. They do have a little parking lot across the street, but if it's full, there is street parking if you are able yo snag one. Employees were super friendly. The bartender was quick and efficient. Bathrooms were clean as well. I can see this place getting pretty busy on nights and weekends. I didn't see any games around at this location unless I missed them. I do know they serve coffee at this location. They have food also, but I didn't try any. Wouldn't mind stopping by again if I'm ever in the area.

Yelp
Came here for a date night and had a great time! There's 2-hour free street parking if you're lucky--first come, first serve. Otherwise, the nearby lot is $18 flat via app. It wasn't too crowded, and we walked right up to the bar to sample some beers. The beer names were super fun--my fave name was "I'll have what she's having." I went with Spring Fling. Light and tasty! Food rotates seasonally. My partner got a burger, and I had the pita falafel--both solid picks. Food came out fast and we just grabbed a number after ordering at the bar. What I loved most? The music was chill--not too loud inside or out. We could actually talk! We sat outside, enjoyed the breeze, and counted seven dogs on the patio. So fun. Cashing out was quick and easy. All in all, a relaxed and fun spot. Would totally come back!

Yelp
I've been to Wooden Robot before for trivia, but decided to try out their coffee and breakfast options, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I had an iced caramel latte and really liked that the syrup is made in house. I can always tell the difference and it makes a $6 latte feel worth it. It wasn't too sweet and the milk didn't overpower. The breakfast sandwich was also delicious! It was filling, but not too heavy, which is key for me for a casual breakfast. They didn't have a big selection, but I always can go for a sandwich, so I didn't mind. I chose to sit outside and the food came right to us and pretty quickly. I didn't wait more than 10 minutes. I like that there is indoor and outdoor seating available, so if you have a pet, this is definitely a great place to check out!! Excited to go back and try a seasonal drink as well.

Yelp
Happened to be in the neighborhood and popped into Wooden Robot. How could you not stop in with a name like that. The place was deceptively larger than I thought it was. The bartender was very friendly and welcoming. I explained our party of 4 had never been before or had any of their brews. The bartender was happy to pour samples of different beers for all of us and we all decided on one we enjoyed. I had the basil sour which was refreshing. We quickly discovered the place had a second bar in a larger room with plenty of seating and a nice outside patio. A menu with light fare was available however we stuck to just an afternoon pint. I would definitely recommend popping in and trying one of their craft brews and possibly a quick bite to eat.

Yelp
Aesthetic: Upbeat, bright brewery in the heart of Southend with a wide variety of beers on draft. My Favorites: It's not technically local, but I loved the Bludacris cider since it's gf friendly. Experience: We were waiting for a dinner reservation, and we decided to wait and have a drink at Wooden Robot. I've recently transitioned to gluten free, so the Bludacris cider was one of the only options I could have. It was delicious and not too sweet for a cider. The atmosphere was lively and bright, and we enjoyed our short hang out here. We will definitely try it again, when in Southend.

Yelp
Popped down to Charlotte, NC this weekend for HeroesCon and found this terrific microbrewery + kitchen + coffee shop. Try the chicken sandwich, the Good Morning Vietnam (coffee vanilla pale ale!) and the cinnamon vanilla latte. Wonderfully nerdy too - LotR on the TV and Darth Vader on the bar! Super friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Typically breweries can either do really good beer or really good food. Rarely can they do both. This place is that exception. Loved the Space Magic IPA and the Pops Leicht. I would come back for the beer alone. However, the food...my god the food...was incredible. The smash burgers, wings and fries were amazing. We got the fries with the sauce flight. Although the sauces were all delicious, we fought over the curry ketchup and house made ranch. Great place to eat, drink and watch college football

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer and stayed for the atmosphere. Great bar area and outdoor patio as well as food! Outstanding selection of beers that made me feel like a kid in a candy store- all styles represented- and the cocktails sounded good too! I'm not a local, but if I was, I would join the once-a-week club- especially for a sporting event. I will definitely be back the next time l'm in the area!

Yelp
What's not to love about Wooden Robot? Great place, awesome people and fantastic beer! It's a win win! You can't go wrong with any of their staples - good morning Vietnam or Overachiever are my two favorites. Then their smaller batches are also great! They also have non-beer options - wine, kombucha, soft drinks, so there's something for everyone. Their food menu is also legit and the portions are good. Just a great spot in south end for everyone to enjoy - and there's ample outdoor space for your pup as well!

Yelp
Charlotte is a brewery destination. It seems like there's one on every corner. I visited more than a handful of different places during our visit to Charlotte, and Wooden Robot was a winner. For starters, the staff here was amazing. We sat at the bar, and there was a great rotation of bartenders who were super friendly and attentive. It seems like the ones I talked to were longtime employees, which I feel like says a lot about a place. Additionally, one of the bartenders even gave us recommendations on which other breweries we should prioritize - and we valued that opinion a lot! The space is huge - bar seats, high-tops, and a sprawling outdoor space make for a fun hang. To my surprise, they also have a bustling coffee shop attached. There's nothing I love more than beer and cold brew: an essential to my food pyramid. For beers, there were many enticing options. We had a Botbier (foeder-aged farmhouse ale), Good Morning Vietnam (coffee vanilla blonde ale), QC Gold (golden lager), Strawberry Swirl It (fruited sour), and Riwak n' Roll (New Zealand-style pilsner). The Strawberry was a dark horse - it was recommended by the bartender, so we sampled a 5 oz. It was TASTY! I'm picky about strawberry beers, but this one was just the right amount of sweet + tart without tasting artificial. I also deeply enjoyed the Good Morning Vietnam - I love a good coffee beer! Everything we had, I would drink again. There are TVs playing local sports, and there are some funny art and photo ops, if those are your thing. Wooden Robot is a must-stop amongst Charlotte breweries.

Yelp
It's literally located on a train station stop. Such a hip area to be in. But this brewery serves up some of the greatest local beers, big tvs for sports, and a view of some of the coolest trains (this includes the local train and the Norfolk Southern).

Yelp
I was recently in Charlotte just for a weekend and was recommended this brewery by our waiter at lunch. The vibe was so cool because you have a brewery side as well as a coffee shop side but they are connected. If you want to watch games on TV and hang out with a bigger group of friends and maybe grab some food, they have a really great patio on the beer side. But, if you want to either have a beer or coffee and get some work done or meet with a friend the coffee shop side is perfect for a more intimate spot. Everybody was so helpful and I would definitely be back. Super cool spot and dog and kid-friendly!

Yelp
Beer was cold and at a good price for a brewery in South End. Would like to see a larger beer selection given the size of the brewery.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Nice laid back atmosphere with some great beers. The bar tender insisted we try the "Good morning Vietnam" as he said it's the beer they are mostly noted for. He was absolutely right and gave other good descriptions and recommendations of other beers.

Charles J.

Yelp
Woah! This place is great. Tons of space for inside and outside beverages and killer beer selection. Also, looked in a good area with other establishments close by it's definitely worth checking out if you like breweries and are in Charlotte! Was happy with the service too. Everyone was helpful and the place had a cool vibe.

Yelp
This was the first brewery we headed to in Charlotte after landing. Hazy beers are always what I'm looking for and wooden Robot has got that! It's in a nice walkable area and the inside is huge, they service coffee which is nice for those who may not want to have an alcoholic beverage. They also serve food if you'd like to grab a bite to eat while you're there. We had eaten lunch previously so we didn't order anything to eat. There is ample space inside with tables and couches included. They have an outdoor patio where you can enjoy your beers on! Overall I liked the chillness of this place and the IPA's were on point.
google avatar

Elysia P.

Yelp
The entrance walks you into a rustic brewery with a hidden gem, a coffee bar. They pull double shots so I ordered a quad and my coffee was creamy and delicious with their house made syrups. The service was quick and the barista was very friendly. I would love to come back and try the beers one day if I'm back in town. It is dog/pup friendly which is a big plus for me since I love to bring my pup places. I enjoyed my short time here and again, the coffee was Amazing!!!!
google avatar

Sammie S.

Yelp
The food is stellar. Not many breweries can pull off a great kitchen, good beer, and good coffee. Service is fast but also with a smile and some quick wit. Every team member could you laugh. Also the menu is seasonal! Which is refreshing and make going there all the more fun. This is a place you gotta get to at least once.
google avatar

Haley P.

Yelp
Enjoyed a couple beers and some good bar food here last night. I liked the dry hopped sour and also tasted the cinnamon coffee blonde ale, it's not my usual type of beer but it was really good! This seems like a good spot for large groups especially, they have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The bartenders were friendly and quick!
google avatar

Chelsea P.

Yelp
We were here on a Saturday night around 9 pm. It wasn't crowded in the slightest. There is a great outdoor area to hang out in and there is plenty of room if you have a large crew. Our bartender was great and had gods suggestions and allowed us to sample a number of beers before picking one. I was so pleased when I found out they serve flights. Variety is the spice of life after all. The beer was solid. I would go back to wooden robot anytime
google avatar

Carmen S.

Yelp
Pros... Nice place to sit. Cons... Only 4 drinks on tap and hardly anything on the drink menu. They don't have a full bar so there are only 2 or 3 options worth your time. The line took about 15 minutes and the barista didn't know the menu. She pointed to a dirty chalkboard that you could barely read and told us that there were at least 4 places within walking distance that were better. Will never go back.
google avatar

Nikki K.

Yelp
Super cute spot, plenty of seating with games and books available. Our beers were good and service fast and kind. I would definitely be back.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
I was told good morning Vietnam was the best beer in town and I was not let down! Loved the indoor/ outdoor space with plenty of seating. The staff was excellent at making sure tables were kept clean and gave great beer recommendations. They have an excellent selection of beers for people with all preferences. Highly recommend stopping by!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Beer was a solid 3 stars, location was 5 stars. The beer was all so light, I'm curious if Charlotte has a ABV limit? They were okay, but not something I'd go back for. I had the flight I was surprised at how big the pours were! Lots of outdoor seating, dog friendly, once trivia started there was a huge crowd. Definitely seemed like the place to be!
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
I visited Wooden Robot for their Thursday night Trivia and had a blast! It was a packed house with a great vibe, especially for a chill night getting to know some new friends. I tried one of their fruity sour beers which was pretty yummy, especially since I'm not the biggest beer fan. I loved the variety of options and unique names for their drinks! There was parking available in a nearby garage and plenty of seating inside.
google avatar

Cohen M.

Yelp
Some of the best beers in Charlotte. Staff is always amazing. Chamber location is a vibe. South End is cool for the food, liquor, and even coffee shop!

He Said She Said ..

Yelp
He Said: My initial review reflected how I felt at the time, but as a review team we've changed some of what we do on Yelp. We generally don't review breweries now because, despite how often we go to them, we want to only review bars and restaurants. We'll do a brewpub on occasion, but want to stick to food or bars. All that said, and for this time, I will update my end of the review: the beers are really good and the space is so much better (for me) after the expansion. It feels less cramped and a much easier and welcoming place to hang out. The staff is great and has been on all of our recent visits. We've been back 4 or 5 times since the initial review and will come back any time we can. She said: As he noted, we're a fan of Wooden Robot. The food is good. The beer is good. Every member of the staff with whom we've interacted is awesome. We have three spots that we always recommend in Charlotte, and Wooden Robot is definitely one of them. Potty Points: No trip to the potty for me on this visit!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Nice brewery, indoor and outdoor spaces, service at the bar was pleasant and friendly. Indoor space was a bit dark but clean. We sat outside in the patio area, long tables under roof. Lots of dogs and tables were worn down a bit - area could be cleaner. Beers were great, lots of options. Got the fries and top fries we had on our trip. Hand-cut, fresh and delicious. Nice side to dip as well.

Stef B.

Yelp
The burger and fries were amazing. The service was friendly and prompt. We had a flight of beer and every single one we tried was top notch.
google avatar

Carolyn K.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick coffee and just had to stay for the cool atmosphere and the fun chatter with the baristas. Grabbed a cappuccino with oat milk and it was delicious - perfectly done, and with impeccable presentation. The barista and I chatted up some new coffees he's purchasing, and just made the experience that much more fun. It was the perfect break to my really hectic day. Didn't get a chance to try the beers but will be back soon to dive in
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
Service is great, they have their beers clearly displayed, they offer flights/half pours/full pours, have a self serve water tap, and are dog friendly inside and outside. Plenty of seating as well! I love the new coffee shop addition. Parking is on the street.
google avatar

Latonya P.

Yelp
If you like beer or cider you'll like it. I'm not much of a beer fan but I tried a sour and turns out it wasn't bad! Picnic style seating and spacious seating inside. Food truck offering bbq arrived shortly after 6 and they have a small souvenir shop too! Right off the 36th Street Station of the light rail and if your like us you stumbled onto a free jazz concert compliments of Lynx
google avatar

Kristy W.

Yelp
The Wooden Robot Brewery was so clean and really focused on earthy stuff and minimalist layout. They weren't only good for a brewski, they also served coffee. I ordered a Moroccan Mint Tea and my friend a Caramel Latte both were superb and I wish had something close this at home. The service was great, friendly, and our barista kept us laughing the whole time.
google avatar

Zara T.

Yelp
Drinkable beers, I haven't been wowed by any so far. I would classify myself as a beer drinker though, and it seems like they're taking some risks on their brews. It's only a matter of time!! This is the Good Morning Vietnam. It's lighter than expected, but again, drinkable. There are so many to try that I probably wouldn't get again. But if I had it at a party, I would be content. Lots of outdoor seating and it's dog friendly! So yes, I'll be back to continue tasting!
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
This Wooden Robot location is great! They have large indoor seating and outdoor patio areas, which makes it really nice! The staff is great and friendly and the beer and food options are really good! You can't go wrong with any option you choose. They are located in the Southend area, on South Tryon/Summit. You can get here on the light rail, driving or scooter very easily. This location has a great vibe and is around many other establishments in the area - restaurants, breweries, bars, etc. Definitely stop in and give them a try!
google avatar

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
Always a great place to grab delicious drinks and hang with friends! I recently learned that they have a wide selection of both non-alcoholic and gluten-free beers, too, and the staff are always super friendly and welcoming. Great neighborhood spot!
google avatar

Lara T.

Yelp
Super cool brewery in Charlotte. They have a huge tasting room. With seating both inside and outside, a nice large bar. They have plenty of beer choices and something for everyone. They have very cool flight glasses and set up. Great art work on the walls, friendly and helpful beertenders. They do have plenty of televisions around the tasting room to watch a game. I mostly had IPAs in my flight. Their beer is pretty good. They also have food offerings but we didn't eat anything. There's street parking close to the brewery. When I asked locals what brewery I needed to go to. They all said Wooden Robot, a local favorite.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Good beer, good vibes, good service, good food, good venue... is that enough to sell ya? If not, you can always count on them to keep a good sour. My personal fav is the prickly pear sour, if that's your thing like it is mine. I also really like the Overachiever, which says a lot because I'm not a huge IPA gal. Always a good number of beer options, so they'll have something that you like. Large indoor space as well as a large outdoor area with heaters and large benches to accommodate doggos and large parties. Give it a whirl, you can definitely find something to love here!
google avatar

John E.

Yelp
Damn good spot for micro beer, sports and conversation. The is a dog friendly spot with a heated outdoor patio. Dogs are welcome inside and outside. There are high tops inside and picnic style tables outside. The scene is pretty eclectic and high energy. The beer selection is on par with local micro breweries in the area.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
Another lovely discovery from a brewery I haven't sampled from yet! Love the concept and logos with this brewery and I was lucky and snagged a t shirt for future representation of the brewery as I go out and about! We had two beers from this brewery that we enjoyed. The first one was the Overachiever Pale Ale which had great hop features to it! The other beer we had was the Space Magic IPA. I enjoyed this IPA and felt like it wasn't too overpowering in bite. A perfect beer to enjoy on a hot summer day. I will definitely keep an eye on this brewery and will look forward to trying more of their beer options.
google avatar

Jeanne-Marie D.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in Charlotte I almost always stop in at this brewery. They've got a fairly large patio which is great and the inside area is quite spacious too. People also love to bring their pups (see provided photo :D ) The beer selection is awesome and the bites are fairly tasty too. I appreciate this place more because of the chill, fun vibes it gives off. Everyone is always having a good time and it's a great place to either hang out with a group, watch a game that's on, or even go with family. The staff is super friendly and as the afternoon goes into evening it gets more lively which makes it even better. Definitely a great place to stop at!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Great beers. Great food. Great atmosphere. What else do you want? Indoor and outdoor spaces, so many beers on tap for multiple presence types, you'd be a fool not to stop by here for a bit if you're in town.
google avatar

John Z.

Yelp
To be fair to wooden robot this is only a food review; I believe the beer and coffee selection is very elite! I got the burger and Caesar wrap with sweet potato fries. The fries were really good it had the right consistency and crispy texture but was under seasoned. This theme was also applicable to the burger. It was as if someone forgot to salt the Patties and buns. The ambiance was great a nice brunch spot for beer and brews or coffee, and the service was amazing as well. All in all, it was a decent experience but as I had previously stated I'd probably come back for the coffee and beer, Prehaps not lunch.

Darryl H.

Yelp
Great service! We love the drinks on tap. And the food truck Tacoverse had great food! I will be visiting again!
google avatar

Suzanne A.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer after riding scooters. Introducing my nephew to all things Charlotte so the Wooden Robot was a definite stop. Beautiful day so people were sitting outside in the open air enjoying the weather, company, and of course the beer. We all selected Good morning Vietnam. It is one of my favorite beers here in Charlotte. Maybe because of that hint of coffee you get with every sip. This blend is a mix of their Vanilla Pale Ale and coffee (has 5% alcohol). AMAZING. This is one beer that you have to try if you drink beer....unless you only like stout. Then you won't like it. I will be back as will my nephew. PS: you can get this flavor in bars that carry multiple local breweries so keep and eye out where's we you go. A win win! Enjoy!
google avatar

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Friendly staff, nice outdoor patio , good beers and coffee :). We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Keith S.

Yelp
I love beer, so why did it take me so long to visit wooden robots brewery? I usually visit the chamber in Noda since it's closer to where I live, but since I was in the area I made it a point to stop in and get my favorite wooden robot beer, Good Morning Vietnam! The brewery was fairly busy as expected for a weekend, but the bartender took good care of me regardless. I didn't get to stay as long as I wanted due to other plans, but I will definitely be back! The atmosphere is nice and there is plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather is good. The beer selection is excellent, and they also had a cider on tap that my wife absolutely loved. I'm looking forward to my next visit, and if you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for?
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
One of my top 3 breweries in CLT. Why? Damn good beers, lots of parking all around, fair prices, they be dog friendly, and they have lots of outdoor seating with a sweeeeeeeet walk up window at which to order! Try the Mad Vanillan and Good Morning Vietnam brew hizzles. Both are outstanding. They've got 12 taps and most pints run about $6.50. Yes, they do flights. Full food menu, which I haven't tried yet, but they do have a full kitchen, so no outside grub for you Pilgrim. Unfortuately, no wifi? Whaaaaaaaaaaat? What is this, 1974? Also, no more techno music. Seriously. I'm not raving. Outsida that, Wooden Robot jams.
