Ever been to Garberville? OK then, have you ever heard of Garberville? Perhaps you've smelled Garberville as you sped by on 101. Know what I mean, Cheech? So I decided to take a semi-spontaneous road trip up to Trinidad while Jamie W. was back in Detroit with the parents. I have to admit I didnt know the BBC called this town "the marijuana heartland of the US", but in hindsight, I guess it was puzzling to see dazed and confused hippies meander aimlessly in a town with one main road. I just figured they were lost, not like "hey-dude-got-a-spare-doobie?" kind of lost.
Garberville has a population of 910, which makes it 2-1/2 times bigger than Trinidad. Sadly, it also makes it 2-1/2 times less picturesque unless wandering stoners are Instagram fodder for you. Well, I read on Yelp this was the most highly rated place to eat after driving through the drive-thru tree in Leggett. Apparently they were right because this vintage-style 1960's-era diner was packed with people I couldn't tell were locals or tourists since there wasn't any weed in the air. The staff was really laid back in here because it was close to 1PM and they were still serving their breakfast menu.
Since I was sitting on my keester for three hours, I felt a need for something healthy, so I started with a $4.95 Small Fruit Cup, which was stuffed high with fresh slices of watermelon, pineapple, apple, and strawberries (photo: http://bit.ly/30dYkWA). A generous portion for the price. Then I had the $12.95 Tofu and Veggies, which was just a plate of steamed broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, red cabbage, and kale topped with sautéed tofu cubes flanked by a couple of slightly burnt slices of whole wheat toast (photo: http://bit.ly/30faFKa). Hearty and surprisingly flavorful, especially with a spritz of liquid aminos on it instead of soy sauce. So hippie-dippy, man.
