12 hidden restaurants in Singapore that even hipsters don’t know about - SilverKris

"A Sembawang corner eatery specializing in Peranakan fare with a modern twist, it caters to lovers of bold, spicy, umami-rich dishes. Signature offerings include a buah keluak (black nut) omelette and a fragrant nasi ulam—rice mixed with shredded herbs such as wild betel leaf and turmeric leaves." - SilverKris

Located almost at the end of sembawang on Andrew Ave. nice quaint cafe with beautiful la terms n quirky collectibles displayed. It’s the only eatery inside the estate so it’s popular with locals. Food is good and prices are mid ranged. When crowded the service slows down as they dint have many staff. Ordering by scanning the menu is not my favourite and they do not take verbal orders of food or drink. The Babi buah keluak was my favourite last night.

Tried but google wouldn't let me give 10 stars to the food. Fantastic rustic charm in the deco and to die for Barramundi Assam. Aiyo! MUST TRY!!! Easy off-street parking. Otherwise, park at the public carpark at the park and take a short walk (just right to digest the good food when walking back to the car). Forget about Melaka or Malaysia. Just come straight here with the kids :)

Tucked just a distance away from Sembawang Park is this quiet rustic cozy eatery where you can get a nice flavourful spice laden Nasi Ulam! Pair it with the other Peranakan dishes will will really spice you up! I'll go easy on the chillies and careful in the separate chillies as I'm not good with spicy sauces and foods. There's quite a good list of selection and it's nice to forget and not compare with other similar dishes and just enjoy the ambience with friends while munching away in good company. Not every item might be up to everyone's expectation but I do enjoy the variety and trying out the more interesting creations like Beetroot Buah Keluak ice cream ... Opted for the platter, helps to save a lost brain from navigating the menu. As servings are portions and usually foods are homecooked, they would not be piping hot, like some families would served as I've learnt, otherwise will burnt my tongue. Will come again to try out other dishes and maybe this time during the day so I can also pop by the beach. Oh, I'll go for the root beer float anytime though it's on the smaller size but the foam! I feel nostalgic when I see that foam. The apple crumbed is also delicious, a nice sweet ending.

Woody Family Peranakan Cafe (Andrew Avenue): Perfect Cycling Pit Stop with Delicious Surprises! Ratings: • Ambiance: 5/5 (Welcoming and Relaxing Atmosphere) • Service: 4/5 (Incredibly Friendly and Accommodating Owners) • Food (Pork Belly Satay): 4.5/5 (Delicious, Perfectly Seasoned, a Highlight!) • Overall: 5/5 Woody Family Peranakan Cafe on Andrew Avenue proved to be the ideal rest stop for Donkey, myself, and our group of 18 cyclists! We reserved for 20 people at 9:30 pm, and the process was smooth, with the $100 deposit securing our spot. The owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the ambiance was fantastic – a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere after a ride. While most of us stuck to drinks, we accidentally ended up with an order of their Pork Belly Satay, and let me tell you, it was a happy accident! The meat was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and a definite highlight. Woody Family Peranakan Cafe is a hidden gem that I highly recommend, not just for their authentic Peranakan cuisine, but also for their exceptional hospitality. We'll definitely be back!

Loved their nasi ulam with light fragrant, not overpowered by the herbs they used. So different from what I've tried in Malacca and Penang. Tried their set meal for 2/3 person. 4 dishes and a soup. Can have variety and won't overeating. Yummy! 😋

The food is very good, honestly, but it just takes too long to serve. 1 hour of waiting time for a not crowded timing is too long, and the portion is small and very pricey. The staffs and owner are very friendly, and the place is very nice and cozy, but I don't see myself coming back again. I cannot imagine how long I will have to wait when 1 hour is needed with minor crowd.

Waited 1 hour plus for the food. As taste is subjective, I would say you will need to come to experience it yourself. Good for people who stay nearby. Owners need to work on manpower as I pity them struggling with orders and serving customer. Came here as I saw the article on the owners and me and my friends decided to come and support but was honestly disappointed, maybe we came on a wrong day.

Nice peranakan food although it is pricey. Place has a nice decor but do take note this is not an indoor place, so it can get warm but it's really for the ambience. Note that like others mention, there is a bit of waiting time for the food but personally it's not an issue for us. We gave a bad rating due to how they dealt with an hygiene in this place. We ordered a can drink and pour the drink into the glass. There, we noticed that there was a black particle (refer to photo) that was floating on it - felt like lizard poo. We informed the staff and informed that there was something on it. However, what shocked us was that the staff simply scoop out the particle, and return us the glass with the drink, and simply explained that the 'item' was from the ice cubes. Regardless how that particle was there, I don't think it is correct hygiene practise to let customer continue using the glass. We decided to just drink straight from the can and leave the glass as it is. We also took the serving plates on the table and realised that it was full of dust! While we do not expect the highest of hygiene standard in a cafe of this location, I simply think it does not even justify the high prices of charging these food.
