Staff were impeccably dressed. The guys on reception were lovely. It's a big old building with lots of rooms. It looks as though it's due a revamp, but In this current climate, the room was clean, comfortable, spacious and airy. The bath was big and deep and the towels were fluffy and clean. Breakfast was down stairs, and attention to service was lovely. Something you don't always get nowadays ... Nothing was to much trouble. Definitely worth the money..

Avoid, avoid, avoid. We had rooms booked, turned up to check in, and got rudely refused entry at the door because they'd used the place to house refugees instead. That's fine, help the needy, but to be rude (borderline aggressive) to people who had paid, and then the manager even refused to come and speak to us. Then took weeks to get a refund. Would never go back. Don't care how cheap they are.

Couples break last week, we stayed 2 nights. Hotel was fine, it’s a little tired but clean. Room spacious and warm. Free car parking and great for walking into the town centre. We would stay again. Breakfast on first day was order however next day it was a buffet as large party in the hotel. That day was very under whelming. Toast only for me.

We stopped last Friday at short notice, booked direct and got a free drink at the bar for each guest. The room was spacious if a little dated. Bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very good and overall service was impeccable. It's not the Ritz but it's £39 for double Inc breakfast. What's not to like.😁

The hotel smelt like a toilet from the entrance and even into the room. I got locked in the first room and had to be moved. The food service very slow as only one person serving food and taking orders. When the food came it wasn’t worth the wait, it tasted appalling. The toilet in our room was brown and the water was dirty. The shower had hairs in it showing it hadn’t been cleaned properly. Breakfast was blunt, just the mushrooms were nice. Even the juice tasted off. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

This hotel was good . Price reasonable and room very comfortable. and clean. Breakfast was adequate and again, value was good The young lady on reception was lovely , very helpful on our arrival, with all essential information regarding hotel and her manner was very polite and respectfull. A comfortable nights sleep was had and I would stay there again ,and also recommend staying there to others.

Lovely hotel in a historic building. It appears to be in the process of being renovated our room had not been done up but was clean and beautifully furnished, the many public areas are modern and trendy. I'm not sure if the breakfast room has been done up yet but it was clean and airy and I found the chairs very comfortable. The games room has two pool tables and a table football game as well as sofas and a TV. Again it was very clean and modern. The complimentary coffee machine is located in the breakfast room and is accessible all day. On the minus side all the floorboards squeak (it is an old building so probably can't be helped) and our room had some damp mold around the window and cobwebs in one of the corners.

I've stayed here a few times visiting family and I enjoy the cleanliness, good breakfasts and the staff are great! DONT park in the carpark opposite the Parish Church but turn left at the hotel and the carpark is just past the hotel. I really recommend this hotel!

The Wool Merchant was off to a good start before we arrived - after being let down elsewhere we were well looked after here. This is one of those great local places - friendly, clean, more than a little northern with some Italian influences (I think it is part owned by Italians - the restaurant downstairs definitely is). The staff were great - from booking to leaving - with the added adventure of my locking myself out of my room inbetween - we were well looked after. The rooms are good sized with proper pine furniture (none of this weird box-bed rubbish) and big bathrooms (proper baths and separate showers!). The hot water supply isn't perfect, to be honest (is it ever this far north??) but works with some fiddling. The walls are a bit thin too but the hotel is a quiet place, no noise comes in from outside. Which is good, because it seems Halifax becomes quite the party town after sundown. Overall - much better than one of the semi-budget chain options you'd get for the same price. The restaurant downstairs is worth a lookin too - decent pizzas ahoy.
