Wooleen Station is a wonderful, relaxing, rewarding experience. It had been on our bucket list for some time as we had read the Wooleen Way some years before and seen the Australian story reports so were keen to visit. We were not disappointed. We feel privileged to have been there and enjoyed every moment of our 3 night stay. We camped in camper trailers at the remote riverside campsites and it was an extraordinary location. The sites are very private and quiet and the night sky in such a remote place is just amazing. The staff were very welcoming and a big shout out to Sheryl who greeted us in the cafe and was so professional but friendly. The walks are lovely and it is well worth buying the little booklet that describes all the points of interest. The dingo talk was really interesting. Sadly, the sunset tour was booked out as we were very interested to hear David talk about Wooleen. Maybe next time. We highly recommend a visit to Wooleen and wish we could have stayed longer.

This might be a contentious review but I’m sharing not to be negative about a popular station, but so others have the information needed to not have the same experience as us. We booked 3 nights at Wooleen on a river site and left after 2. When we booked we weren’t told the river was almost dry. Had we known, we would have booked one of the sites closer to the homestead. We were told the site was 16km from the homestead but in reality, this track was so badly corrugated it took us an hour each way. Any faster and we would have risked damage to our vans. (Disclosed at booking one van was semi off road the other was not, told not a problem, both vans sustained some minor damage.) We missed the Dingo talk and self guided hikes/drives because we couldn’t face the thought of a 2 hour round trip from our site back to the station, and the sunset tour wasn’t available on any of the 3 nights we had booked. The web site says household rubbish can be disposed of at the homestead but on checkout were told to drive back in to Murchison Settlement to dispose of rubbish. (Not a big deal, we had to get diesel there anyway but it was the opposite direction) Maybe we have been spoiled by some of the other stations like Wooramel and Bullara, but we found their museum to be an old building crammed with all sorts of random things that made it feel more like a junk area than a museum (sorry!!) A bit of sorting and some labels would make a huge difference. On the plus side, the site was huge, sunsets and stars were spectacular and it was lovely being somewhere quiet and not packed in like at a caravan park. I’m sure if you have a full off road setup and go in with eyes open, it could be a beautiful place to stay, but it wasn’t the right place for us so we left a day early.

What a wonderful place to visit and hope to be back one day. Pretty easy drive here with some well kept gravel roads. The sunset tour with David was awesome and he told us the whole story of the station and capped off with drinks and nibbles at a great photo spot. Zali had a very interesting talk about dingoes on the station which opened our eyes up to what wonderful job they are doing. I hope all there conservation planning goes well. Also the reception staff and coffee available there is 5 star.

I’ve just returned from an incredible stay at Wooleen Station and I absolutely LOVED every moment of it. David and Frances should be highly commended for the amazing work they are doing to preserve and share this unique part of outback Western Australia. I stayed in the hosted homestead and it was flawless – the rooms were beautifully presented and comfortable, the service was attentive without ever being intrusive, and the facilities were outstanding. The food was a real highlight – fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared. Every member of staff I encountered was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Wooleen Station is a true gem, offering not only a wonderful place to stay but also an inspiring insight into life on a working station. I can’t wait to return in 2026!

Was an amazing time camping out at Wooleen Station. The camp space was amazing and the sunsets were stunning. The coffee and focaccia’s at the cafe were the best we have had in a long time. While the walks through the wild flowers are simple I recommend purchasing the $5 booklet that educates you about the history sites along the different walks as it makes them far more enjoyable, will definitely be stopping back through on our next trip up north.

What a fabulous experience at Wooleen Station! This is truly an escape from the hustle and bustle. So refreshing to slow down the pace, appreciate our country, take in the surroundings, forget about technology and connect with real people and their life stories. The sunset tour was spectacular and the dingo talk was informative and interesting. David and Frances are the ultimate hosts, creating a destination that is remarkable. The meals at the Homestead are delicious and credit to all the staff that are so welcoming and friendly. Thank you so much, the three of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We were blessed with returning to Wooleen Station and camping for 3 nights at one of the beautiful Murchison river sites. Despite the weather winter brings we were kept cosy by the fire and warmed by the changing sky scape. Remote camping at Wooleen allows for purpose and relationship to your surroundings. There is true peace and restoration and the reason we keep coming back. We were greeted so kindly on our arrival at the reception and despite a 16km return we were drawn back to embrace a comforting hot shower at the cafe each evening. This is truly special place! Thank you Wooleen xx

Such a beautiful experience not to be missed. We were met at Reception by the lovely & friendly Cheryl who gave us a very informed run down on the property & very clear instructions to get to our riverside camp site some 16km from reception. Beautiful Hot showers & flushing toilets were provided at reception which were very well received after a hot dusty drive. We joined the not to be missed sunset tour which took us through the property to a sunset viewing with drinks & nibbles at a sacred Aboriginal site. Throughout the tour our guide David gave us a very informed overview of the property & his evolving plans for reviving it from previous overstocking etc. We loved every moment of our stay & hope one day to return. Do yourself a favour. Oh, & the coffee is great too!
