Tavares, Florida Travel Guide

"This scenic lakefront park on Lake Dora offers kayak rentals, picnic areas, a seaplane-themed playground and splash pad, a boat ramp, and an onsite general store for snacks. It’s highlighted as a prime spot to catch sunsets and to watch seaplane takeoffs and landings because of its immediate proximity to the seaport." - Terry Ward Terry Ward Terry Ward is a writer covering family travel, culture, scuba diving, and more. This waterfront park is so beautiful, here you will find a peaceful park with a walkway along the water where you can see lots of birds and alligators and even watch the sea planes taking off and landing. Everyone is so friendly and a top and have lunch at any of the local restaurants!

Google
Had a great time at the park. We were passing through town and decided to stop and stretch our legs. We had a group of 21, 15 of that was kids. We all had a great time.

Google
Beautiful clean park on the lake. It also has a large gated playground and plenty of space to let the dog and kids run

Google
Ha d great time.. when to the Festival on Ruby. Kids had a blast. Family got some drink and we enjoyed some live music. Definitely want to come back in the warmer months and take a ride in the seaplanes.

Google
Lovely play area with seaplane-themed splash pad, picnic benches and gazebos, and large playground with cool air-tower-shaped slide at its center. Well landscaped, public bathroom, and lake front boardwalk.

Google
Very clean and is a frat place to walk through when visiting this city

Google
Cute playground on the east side of this nice green space. Little dock you can walk on and nice water views. Originally came to see the big wooden park featured in the photos but unfortunately that was taken down 2 years ago. Still a nice place with lots of shade.

Google
Loved this playground! I’ve been exploring new playgrounds in the area with kiddos and thought this one was great! The playground was very large and had lots of options for every age. We were planning on doing the splash pad but they only accept cash to enter, that area did look cute as well. Will definitely be visiting again and you can even walk down by the water!

Yelp
Central Florida is really special -- at Wooten park plenty of space for your boat or car or plane , grab a bite to eat ( you can walk there and choose!)

Yelp
I stopped over to Wooton park after a delicious lunch at BTW. I had not been to this park before and couldn't help but marvel at its beauty from Main Street. There is ample parking, a large pavilion, several walking paths, a playground, a splash park, public restrooms, and a gorgeous view of Lake Dora. There are multiple built-in benches where visitors can watch Seaplane's take off and land, along with other activities happening on the lake. The City of Tavares does a great job keeping this park in immaculate condition. My only complaint is there is only one large pavilion with picnic tables, so if it is reserved, there is nowhere else to have a picnic but in the grass. Regardless, If you are in the area, I recommend a visit here; you don't want to miss out on this beautiful view.

Yelp
Wonton Park is six acres of fun. The park is waterfront and has two playgrounds, water park, fishing dock, picnic areas, pavilions, bathrooms and more. It is an excellent place to spend time as a family. I brought my grandson here for an afternoon of fun. He loved the playground and made a few friends. The play structure seemed well maintained and the park was very clean. We heard that sea planes take off and land at Wooton Park. We didn't see any on the day that we visited so we planned a return trip over the weekend.

Yelp
Great park. Wonderful walks. On the lake. A seaplane park where you can see seaplanes landing and taking off. Restaurants within walking distance. Playground for kids. Great shady trees to sit under and read or have a picnic.

Yelp
This deserves a Best Park award. It's located on a lake front where you can watch seaplanes coming and going. My son absolutely loved that! Then there's a huge wooden fort playground and a splash pad with a slide. I can't remember the price to enter the splash pad area, but is was somewhere around $1 - $3. It's gated, with one entry/exit, and managed by a few teen employees. There are benches around the area where adults can sit to watch their kids play. The slide is small but was a big hit with all the kids. There is a disposable diaper dispenser for babies as well. The playground area is also fenced in, with one entry/exit. There's lots of areas to play and run around. There are gazebos for parties, located next to the play areas. There are bars within walking distance and you are free to walk the street with alcohol in hand, except in the park area. There is also a train station located next to the park; seeing the train come and go was another highlight for my son. The bathrooms were decent for a park and are located near the play areas as well.

Yelp
Wonderful little park by the lake, lots of playscape for your kids to run around on and in. Needs a few more strategically placed benches for parents; the area is large and sectioned, obscuring a line of sight at any time with your little one. Otherwise, you'll really the park, location, and this quaint town. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This park has it all. Fishing, walkways, the scenic harbor, places to eat and great events. The water planes coming in and out are great and the perfect go to spot to kill a few hours with your dog. Love it at Christmas and when there are fireworks at special events. Great place to go and relax.

Yelp
AMAZING park for all ages! Our kids had a blast! Dogs aren't allowed in the playground area.

Yelp
We went there last Sunday, what a disaster. We ordered two cheeseburgers one with cheese only, extra cheese, medium well and the other burger regular well done. Obviously the kitchen doesn't read the tickets because the cheese only burger came out with everything on it. No big deal at this point right, she took the burger back they fixed it and we could start eating. We cut into the "well done" burger and I'm not kidding you that beef patty was still alive Literally blood juices trenching the bun. Calling the waitress, she brings it back to the kitchen and about 15 min later she comes back with the same burger we cut open ...... looked like they stuffed the burger in the oven/microwave/air fryer I don't know. Mind you I'm already done with my burger. Because she was so hungry at this point she eat about half of that thing. You would think they comped us for the inconvenience or the manager at least would come out and say something ..... nothing Worst place I have been to in a while

Yelp
The beautiful atmosphere and the boats and airplanes are a fun attraction. They have many restaurants that I recommend that you all try out! Puddle jumper is great and also O keeps! Ruby steer grill has the best whole made foods! Wooten park has activities every weekend

Yelp
We love this park. It has a splash pad with a fence around it. The Splash pad even has a little slide. Right next to the splash pad is a large wooden structure playground, with swings and slides. What is really nice about it, is that the playground is fenced it with a gate, that locks. Perfect for small children. The park is located under a large canopy of oak trees, so it's perfect to play at, even in the summer! We will be coming here whenever we are in the area.

Yelp
So right now Covid-19 is going on (April) (closed restrooms & facilities) and I still give this park 5 stars! Someone really knew what they were doing when it comes to landscaping to attract birds of all sorts, also being right on the lake! The splash park is closed and the playground is closed for now, but the walking area is beautiful and quiet. Gorgeous large oak trees for cool shade and plenty of birds for bird-watching! A perfect place to go and unwind, stretch your legs, and get some fresh air and sunshine along the wide, winding sidewalk. I spent an hour here just admiring all of the beauty.

Yelp
This park has it all... and then some! The park is set along the north shore of beautiful Lake Dora in Tavares. We sought this park our for its splash park and boat ramp but found so much more! The splash park is small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in fun. This is the only splash park I've seen with slides, which seemed to be the big hit. There is a big sea plane over the splash pad spraying water from its propellers. It is very cute! It only costs $2 and there is an attendant making sure kids play safe (mostly reffing the water slide). This area was open from 10am-6pm. The playground is one of those large, quality wooden ones and is right next to the splash pad. There are huge oaks covering the area providing ample shade. There is plenty to do for kids of all ages and lots of benches and seats for parents too. I like the fact that both the playground and splash pad are completely surrounded by a fence so your child can't wander away. The park looks very new and is extremely clean and well maintained. There is a nice sidewalk along the water with, get this, mister fans! What a great idea! There are lots of benches and trees as well. There are public docks so you can tie your boat/jet ski up and access the park from the water. There is a LARGE boat ramp. It is so large we actually watched a sea plane drive up the ramp! There are restrooms with Florida wildlife murals painted on the side, water fountains and right across the street are an array of restaurants, many with outdoor seating and live music. One of the little places sells ice cream too! I noticed the park has pavilions for rent as well. And if all that wasn't enough they actually offer sea plane tours out of the park through a company called Jones Brothers & Co. Where have you ever seen a sea plane tour before? I hadn't! Tours start at $35 (adult) for a 12-14 minute tour. Although we didn't opt for the tour (it would have been too costly for our family of three) we did speak to the employees and they were very friendly. They said we could check the planes out and even sit in them. I'm totally hooked on this park. We will definitely be back, in fact, I can't imagine why we'd want to go anywhere else! It is absolutely worth the drive! I can't wait to come back and try one of those lake side restaurants. Maybe we'll even get on a sea plane!!

Yelp
Perfect covered splash pad to break from the heat! There is a limit for house many kids can go in - so be prepared to wait on busy weekend!

Yelp
This is my most favorite park ever all day long I want to play there everyday all day but I can't

Yelp
BEWARE OF DOGS IN CHILDREN PLAYGROUND! My husband and I took our 2 year old son to the park just to have some young kids bringing their boxer up into the play area and knock him down twice. When my husband told the parents about it the dad got violent and got in my husband's face while he was holding my son. All because we asked if they could keep their dog out of the playground. We called the park and they sent over park employees to address the owner of the dog. My three stars is because there is no park personnel on site monitoring if dogs or other unauthorized animals are in playground with children, much less small children.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous waterfront park! It is so well-maintained, with special event areas, nice benches, paved walkways, and playgrounds, etc. for kids. There are clean public restrooms and water fountains. Love looking at the marina and the seaplanes! This is a beautiful place to take a picnic lunch and enjoy a sunny afternoon. When you're done, finish the walk with a beer out on the patio at Al's Landing! My only complaint is that the waterfront paths don't extend further - it would be a great spot to bring the dogs for a long walk. From what I've heard, they have quite a few events here as well, which would be a lot of fun!

Yelp
Perfect location in downtown Tavares to either bring the kids, sit and watch the seaplanes taking off, or having a great meal across the street and then digesting by walking it off at the park. A new pavilion is being built at the park which should be opened soon, and one of the coolest features is a book "lending tree" where you can pick up books for free and loan out your own. The park is always well kept and the bathrooms are clean, too!

Yelp
What a great park. Very well kept, clean restrooms, plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings of downtown Tavares. There's a playground and splash park close to the Cannonball Express train. After our recent train ride, we took our kids to the playground here and let them play for 30 minutes. They enjoyed all the places to hide, various slides and even a short zipline. Benches are situated around the playground and right in the middle of the playground on a porch/deck that's attached to play area. One way in/out so you know your kids aren't getting away from you and the gate locks from the outside with a parent access lock that the shorter kids can't get to. We were impressed and the kids had a great time.

Yelp
This park is really a hidden gem in the city of Tavares. Combine it with an afternoon train ride, and you really have a great day for the kids. The park is massive, with a huge, multilevel playground that kids just love. It is not typically overly crowded as well, which really helps when you are trying to keep track of the kids running around. They also have a really neat water park here, and for a minimal charge, kids can go nuts on an over-sized splash pad here. Perfect for hot summers here in Florida, and a great place to have a fun get together or birthday party for the kids.

Yelp
Very nice park. Brought my toddler here and he loved the splash park! Only $2 per person. It's small enough that you don't need to go in with an older kid and can just sit and watch from outside if you don't want to get wet. Benches both inside and outside the splash pad. Water comes from above and below and there's a slide too! Right next to the splash pad there's a huge playground to accommodate all ages as well. We also took a stroll around the grounds after. Very well maintained and the misting fans were a cool treat although they were not on that day. Walked on some of the docks and you can even see some small fish! Really great time. There's even food across the street to grab a bite after all the fun!

Yelp
This is a great park for children and adults. It has a playground and a splash park that is currently open. The splash park charges $2 for entry. There are also walking trails and plenty of benches that allow you to enjoy the scenery.

Yelp
We've been living near this excellent park for so long now that we tend to take it for granted. Even before the recent additions, this was a quality park. It has a huge playground covered by large well established shady trees. It's located right on the massive Lake Dora and has a small pier with several places to dock your boat or sea plane (since we are apparently "America's Sea Plane City" now). We used to be able to see gators from the pier here nearly every night before the recent construction/expansion. Which brings me to the two fairly recent additions, the splash park and the large ballroom right on the water. The splash park is only $2 and a great place to cool off during the summer. We toured the ballroom when it was first built and it is very nice, the perfect place for a wedding reception. This is also a great place to take a walk on a Friday or Saturday night as you can here music playing from the Ruby Street Grille or Al's Landing (depending on which Restaurant you are near).

Yelp
This is a great place for grandpa to take the grandkids. A safe, secure and clean environment. The City of Tavares has done a wonderful job of developing this serine park.
