Woven History & Silk Road are two conjoined stores owned by the same family in the little row of shops outside Eastern Market.
The family is Turkish, the main manager, perhaps owner's name, is Mehmet. He's very kind and makes for great conversation.
The store stocks all kinds of goods from places such as Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India. Housewares, accessories, rugs, jewelry - you'll find it all here. A lot of it is a small notch above the type of things that you'll find in the Flea Market at Eastern Market.
I lucked out a few years ago when I lost a bracelet that I had received from a friend who had recently returned from Pakistan. It was gorgeous - lapis stone and beautiful inlay designs. Unfortunately I lost it and spent a good five hours wandering around Dupont, nearly in tears, wondering if I could spot that beautiful bracelet. I had no such luck - but a year later I wandered through Silk Road and found something that was almost as good. Not as meaningful, but almost as pretty.
Definitely a good store for interesting gifts, but I can't think of many reasons to visit other than that.
