A Cape Breton MUST STAY owned by a local woman!
Jay the owner was so incredibly kind and accommodating during our stay. She’s a really cool lady who knew a lot about foraging mushrooms and plants and pointed us in the direction of some amazing local beaches! The cabins are recently updated but still have that *cabin coziness feeling* and though we stayed in the summer, the wood stove and instructions how to use it look very inviting for a winter stay. Being so close to Cape Smokey, we can’t wait to come back in the winter for snowboarding and snowshoeing!
The bedrooms were spacious and it was so nice being able to take a hot shower after exploring the Englishtown/Ingonish area all day. The wreck cove general store being a very short drive away was a godsend when we realized we forgot to bring half of our food!
Not only was our stay in the cabins comfortable, it was stocked with everything you need to make a meal, a full size fridge with freezer and a big BBQ on the porch. Everything in the cabin from the sheets to the vintage dish ware and artwork of local flora and fauna was obviously carefully curated with love. 🏡
The property itself features a series of trails through the forest that lead you to incredible lookoffs by the ocean where we sat on the bench and spotted some seals playing in the water! There is the cutest map provided in your cabin to help you navigate your way around the property! My partner and I are avid birders and there was plenty of flying friends to see as well, including a bald eagle!! 🦅 🐦
Jay also owns Highland Bow, an archery range on the property where you can learn to shoot a bow and arrow at targets, as well as fake animal targets along the 3D trail in the forest (there was even a velociraptor dinosaur one) A truly unique experience that Cape Breton doesn’t have anywhere else! 🏹
Basically, we had the best time and we cannot wait to go back and forage more mushrooms along Wreck Cove Wilderness Cabins trails and shoot arrows! Thank you for one of the best trips to Cape Breton yet!
