Service was good but that was the only good point. The food was rushed, spring rolls were frozen in the middle & sent back then returned cut In half and 1 less than ordered. Dumplings were slightly under cooked and a bit doughy, kung pao chicken was very strange in flavour and the chicken was warm at best so this dish was left uneaten. We were given a decent discount but still a very average experience.

Downhill since we were here over Xmas. 45 mins to get the first two dishes. Another 15 for the next two. All very salty and oily. Cumin beef was pretty terrible. Used to be one of the best joints is Hobart. Disappointing.

I should have taken the reviews into consideration. Everyone is your classic sit on the couch eating tim tams while watching Master Chef and spitting out half-chewed bits of wafer while yelling at the television that George is short, but of course I chose to be obtuse. Please, read this warning; save your money, save your time (it will take a considerable amount of it). The service was poor, the food was poor, and now I'm poor due to the prices. Tandoor Curry House is two minutes walk away; do it, you know you love naan. One star is one too many.

The service was fine, however we were very sick after eating the sweet and sour fish and they did not accept the Entertainment Book 'gold card' discount. We will never return and will not recommend this place to others.

We are visiting Hobart for the weekend and found this nice restaurant. We enjoyed the food - very nice handmade noodles for sure!

The UK Telegraph included Written on Tea in the City in their 2014 guide to the 20 best places to eat in #Tasmania: " ... the owners have opened a second restaurant in the city, excellent news for urbanites who are keen to try its xiao long bao dumplings, Cantonese-style roast duck and other delicacies. Chinese cuisine in regional Australia is often pedestrian, but Written On Tea is the exception. Expect plenty of authentically spicy dishes. The menu is huge and includes everything from soups to stir-fried noodles, hot pot and steamed fish. There are plenty of vegetarian options. If you can’t make up your mind, choose the four-course banquet, great value."

Had to wait a bit for our food. The noodle and bread soup was very filling (maybe even a bit too much) but it was good overall.

Strongly recommended for people who like real Xi’an food. They are better than Melbourne Old Liu Restaurant

Yelp
This place needs to fire the chef and close down. It is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been in. The service was poor. Two of the main dishes are more like appetizers. My dinner arrived after everyone else had finished their dinner. Children of relatives were running all over during the meal. It was a terrible experience.
