We wanted something different from the usual impersonal hotels, so chose to stay three nights with Xaviera and Philip. Good choice, our room was spacious and comfortable with a huge bed, table and chairs, a fridge (but no milk for the coffee and tea provided), and a balcony. The shower room and toilet which have been recently updated, are just across the hall and shared with just one other room, so not a problem. The toilet is rather bijou, resulting in the occasional banged knee or elbow. Breakfast was good, cold cuts, cheese and warm rolls, a couple of choices of condiments, plus egg cooked the way you want and coffee or tea. Good conversations with the hosts, although we were rather surprised to be asked to pay in cash when the Booking.com site specifically stated that credit cards were accepted. Be aware also that a Trip Advisor search for 'free parking' brings this b&b up, but parking is NOT free. Parking in the driveway costs 30 euros per day (only marginally cheaper than the 24 hour street parking charge of $36 per day). Transport links to the city centre are a five minute walk away in Beethovenstraat and you can buy a 24 hour or multi-day tram ticket from the bookshop and catch a #5 tram. The restaurant Fidelio on the corner is fabulous! Overall, we recommend the Happy House as a laid-back and comfortable place to stay
