So Antonio is a nice host and a very good cook. The breakfast is excellent and varied and his optional lunch or dinner really superb.||However, the rooms are the most uncomfortable and poorly designed I've ever stayed it. The non Aircon room are right on the beach road. There is a large door and two large tinted pieces of glass. There are no windows that open. All you get is a 10cm wide strip of vent down one side. But as there are no other windows the air cannot come and and circulate. So the room as no air and is unbelievably stuffy and hot, all the time, even in January. You cannot open the door at night as you are on the street. So you lie under a noisy wall fan and sweat. Utterly awful. ||And the mosquitoes in this town are insane, there is a swamp behind and once the sun begins to set you are attacked endlessly, you have to cover your skin head to foot. They even bite your face. I am covered in bites all over.||There is no useable beach in Xcalak either, it is covered in sargaso weed and smells. There is only one restaurant to eat in as well, with a menu with no prices.||And it's very expensive here, the lodge is way too expensive, the restaurants are expensive, and for what? There is nothing here but bad beaches, mosquitoes, and dead coral in the sea. The diving here is terrible too. The whole place is completely depressing. Just avoid it completely.

If you are looking for luxury hotels and lots of people and atmosphere, this is NOT definitively your place. But if you are in the mood for relax, exploring, adventure, enjoying rich food at reasonable prices and having a vacation off the beaten track, you will surely enjoy Xkalak Caribe Lodge.||||Rooms are basic but more than enough and Antonio is a superb cook who will improvise different dishes everyday.||||Diving and fishing are also avilable options here.

Really nice people, full service diving experience. The diving guides are very knowledgeable of their area, and they provide a very relaxing experience under water. This establishment also has lodging, a restaurant and bar. Once you show up you'll never want to leave

Everything is perfect. Nice village, human size. Great opportunity to roam around on foot. Very quiet. Price is very good with amazing breakfast included. Our hosts were the captain of the port and his wife. They could not have been nicer. I will go back next year and i recommend.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Xcalak Caribe Lodge! We stayed five days to go diving, snorkeling and just do nothing. The place was renovated three years ago and has a very good standard. The owner Antonio is genuinely friendly and cooks very good food for a very reasonable price for the guests. From the three oceanside rooms you can watch the sunrise directly from the bed through the large windows. The bed is good, A/C option, WiFi and warm water most of the time. This place has the best location in town. It is 10-15 min walk to XTC dive center, which is north of “town”. This place is underrated, the only bad reviews this place has is from people who by mistake have written on caribe lodge when they wanted to write about other places. Very good value for the money!

Nice place, owner was friendly. Rooms clean and tidy, room right on the street but overlookng the beachy area. Easy to find. Close to shops, restaurant and XTC Dive Centre. There is a great taco place 2 min walk away. Would stay there again.

At the end of a long day of travel, I arrived at the Xcalak Caribe Lodge, at dusk, after dinner, eager for some relaxation and a good night's sleep. While I might have been the first guest after the hot summer break, the owner was very accommodating. He came out quickly, showed me to my room and made sure I had everything I needed, including high speed internet and cold, bottled water. I got a good, peaceful night's sleep in a room that was clean, properly prepared for a guest and perfectly adequate for my needs. I told the owner that I would make an early departure the next morning and sure enough, he was up early as well, preparing the dining area and asking what I'd like for breakfast. I had more than I could eat of a tasty, hot breakfast with juice and coffee. After paying the bill and bidding the owner farewell, I was on my way with a very pleasant memory of my short stay in Xcalak. I'd be very happy to stay there again and enjoy the easy ambiance of Xcalak Caribe Lodge.
