XIA Books & Café

Great place for events and cute gift store and gallery ! With AMAZINH local south East Asian art pieces from across Minnesota! Lots of young artist and storytellers and multigenerational community! Staff that works here is always kind and hospitable !

Really cool place with a small art gallery, a unique bookshop specializing mostly in Asian authors and a pretty big children section. They also have a small cafe serving great coffee and pastries, tables are available inside. Highly recommend to all interested in the world / Asian history, culture, art, books and coffee :)

Fun cafe and gallery celebrating Asian artists! Not a ton of food selection, but they do have coffee and bubble tea.

We were there for the opening of the exhibition “Fires” by artist Saw Naing Lin. The series of paintings tells the story of his family's escape from Burma during a period of ethnic cleansing. Quite moving. Oh, and the gallery is also a café, so you can buy a little something to support this hybrid art space for Asian-American artists!

It says Open Saturdays until 6pm. Got there at 4pm to check out the place and possibly buy some books but, it was closed. Not sure what the deal was, I give it a one star because I went out of my way to come check out the place just to find out it was false. Not even open like it says on Saturdays 🤷🏻‍♀️ I say call before even planning on a visit to the store.

I love this place! Each time I visit the gallery, it has many unique display items to show.

This is a great place to be after a long day. Lots of Hmong artists and their creativity is limitless. I enjoy spending most of my Sundays over there eating my favorite piece of cream cheese cake and my Thai Tea drink. The place is neat and well maintained and the owner is "over the moon" friendly

Curated by AEDA (Asian Economic Development Association) and formerly known as "XIA ART" , XIA Gallery & Cafe exists as a creative hub space to nurture the entrepreneurship of Asian and BIPOC artists & makers. Art is defined expansively, and includes performers, makers, farmers, writers, and more. Looking for heirloom SEA/AAPI handiwork gifts? Or snarky/cutesy ones such as Cards Against Humanity-esque party game, or Hmong traditional woven patterns on washi tape, rice grain mosaic art, hand woven hemp textile works... As a cafe, bubble tea, and pastry spot, XIA currently has limited regular hours, Saturdays and Sundays 10am-3pm. Their coffee, Uprooted Specialty Coffee, is grown in Southeast Asia and roasted in Minneapolis. More likely, you're drawn in for its curated events, workshops, galleries, artist talks, and receptions. This year's series, for example, celebrates the 50 years of Southeast Asian presence and cultural contribution in Minnesota, and includes a beautiful Pride Month celebration of roots and routes and multipally marginalized experiences through AAPI artworks.
