Xiamen University (厦门大学) — the pride of Fujian, fondly called Xiada by locals and students alike. Founded in 1921 by Tan Kah Kee, a patriotic overseas Chinese philanthropist, this historic institution is not only one of China’s most prestigious universities but also arguably the most aesthetically blessed - lakeside pavilions, coastal views, and architecture that flirts with both traditional Chinese charm and European flair. Basically, Hogwarts met a tropical resort and decided to educate people. As a casual walk-in wanderer without preregistration, my dreams of gracefully swanning around its leafy campus like a pretend scholar were tragically cut short. Gates firmly guarded. Security politely firm without a pass. Still, not one to be defeated, we pivoted into the next best cultural hotspots: the bookstore and the canteen. The Bookstore - Felt like walking into a scholar’s candy store. Gorgeous notebooks, brainy-looking books (even if I couldn’t read half of them), and enough university swag to dress like a legit Xiada student. Notepads, pens & sweater and you could pretending you were studying philosophy here. No one would know - thats until you try to enter the lecture grounds 😆 📸 Pro tip: Even if you’re stuck outside the campus walls, you’re right near to Nanputuo Temple and a quick stroll from the beach. It’s like being spiritually and academically blessed in one go.

So called the most beautiful university in China. I think the place is not really outstanding. The buildings are old-fashioned and not amazing. Just a common sightseeing place in Xiamen.

No doubt one of the most beautiful universities! Lots of food options (for tourists?) I know I won’t able to afford to dine in the restaurants when I was in college.

Xiamen University is a stunning campus, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful universities in China. Located near the coast, it boasts scenic views of both the lush campus and the surrounding sea. The architecture is a mix of traditional Chinese and modern styles, with grand buildings, tranquil lakes, and well-maintained gardens. It’s a perfect spot for a leisurely walk, offering both cultural and natural beauty. The campus is open to visitors by appointment in advance, and you can explore various historical landmarks, including the iconic South Putuo Temple and the beautiful Furong Lake. It’s also a great place to experience the local academic and cultural vibe. A must-visit for those interested in architecture, nature, or a peaceful atmosphere in Xiamen.

Xiamen University was founded by the patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee in 1921. It is the first comprehensive university founded by overseas Chinese in modern China and is now one of the best universities in China. The school has Siming, Xiang'an, Zhangzhou campuses and a branch in Malaysia. Its campus is backed by mountains and faces the sea, integrating Chinese and Western architectural styles. The landscapes such as the Kah Kee Building Group and Furong Lake are known as the "Garden of Mountains and Seas" and have been rated as "China's Most Beautiful University" for many consecutive years. ‌Tourists can only visit the Siming campus. ‌Core attractions‌: Furong Lake: The blue waves reflect the Songen Building, and black swans often cruise around, which is suitable for sitting quietly and watching the scenery. ‌Furong Tunnel‌: The total length is 1.1 kilometers, and both sides are covered with creative graffiti created by students, full of youthful atmosphere. ‌Qunxian Building Group‌: Xiamen University's earliest building complex, a combination of Chinese and Western styles, engraved with the word "Qunxian", carrying a century of history. ‌Jiannan Auditorium‌: A landmark building, adjacent to Baicheng Beach, with a distant view of the sea view of the Ring Island Road. ‌Tips for visiting‌: ‌Opening hours‌: It is open on weekdays, weekends and holidays. It is recommended to check the official announcement in advance. Foreign tourists can make reservations through WeChat with their passports, and the earliest reservation can be made 3 days in advance. ‌Recommended route‌: Enter from the West Gate → Qunxian Building → Furong Lake → Furong Tunnel → Jiannan Auditorium → Baicheng Gate, the whole journey takes about 3 hours‌.
