OMG - if you have a handicap and have ever had the dream of going on Safari GO - GO - GO. I’ll just start with a brief description of myself. I am an 80-year-old female and in a wheelchair. I found Ximuwu quite by accident as I was arriving on a cruise ship in Cape Town and decided to do this. To say I am happy with my decision is an understatement. This was the most incredible journey of my life! || To start with, I was greeted by Bradley, one of the general managers, and assisted into a wheelchair friendly vehicle. Upon arrival the entire staff was waiting to greet me, and I felt like the Dowager Mother in Downton Abbey. I was then escorted to my room and shown around by Demi (the other half of the managerial team) but only after one of the butlers/bartenders/servers/gentlemen) also known as Alfred and Dinoh, made sure I had a fresh cold towel and a favorite drink to take with me - they had done their homework. ||Everything there is ramped or flat and set up for wheelchairs or those who rock but don’t roll. The room is not a room but a complete separate lodging, one of only four right now. Exquisitely outfitted with everything you could want or need. No detail was overlooked and almost everything was custom-made and designed. They are very large rooms with floor to ceiling, windows and doors to sit at for hours if you wanted as they had a view of the|water pond and the bush. Most mornings, I would awaken to zebras, giraffes and other game animals that were walking by or stopping for a drink. It was just marvelous.||Starting at 6 AM (my choice of time and if I wanted to go, of course,) I was escorted to the Jeep and assisted in to a wonderful spot that was elevated slightly by a lift and off we went on Safari. What an experience! on some bumpy dirt roads and off into the bush over shrubs and small trees that I was told would grow back. We managed every day for four mornings and again on four evenings between about 4:00 to 8 or 9:30 pm to search for and find ALL of the Big Five. I should say that Bernard our lead Scout, in a different vehicle and a bit ahead of us, and our Jeep Spotter Thulani did most of the searching, of course. Bradley was also the guide, the driver and a great spotter on his own and doggedly hunted down the elusive leopard with her cubs. She laidin the dark at night watching us as we watched her and never moved except to turn her head, of course. Her cubs were eating on the catch and she wasn’t going to leave them. It was unbelievably serene at that moment.||We would return from Safari in the morning to the obligatory cold cloth and drink served by the butlers ( oh so welcome) and a brunch cooked by Amanda and her two assistants. Time in the day to do anything you wanted, including a couple of spa treatments delivered by Happy in her own Spa. Happy has magical hands and I wanted to tuck her into my suitcase! Escorted back-and-forth by my wonderful gentleman and served drinks or whatever else I wanted in the world all day long. Dinner was an experience to some worldwide cuisine and Amanda outdid herself every single meal. It was truly an experience and I couldn’t eat half of it, but it was there nonetheless. Since I was truly alone, the other guests had to change dates, Demi and Bradley joined me quite often which made for very sociable meals. Patrick and Elly, the owners, live on the property - they also greeted and saw me off and checked in frequently to see if everything was going OK. The rooms were kept spotless, and the staff were silent and there when you weren’t - never intrusive - leaving little notes to connect with you. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, especially considering the location. The staff live right there in their own village and are pretty much available 24 hours a day. They are truly amazing and made me feel so welcome.||I know this is long for a review, more like a short novel, but I don’t know what I could’ve left out without covering the important things. All of them are important, especially if you’re in a wheelchair or have a disability. I have never felt so included and special in my whole life, especially now that I am older and have a disability. XIMUWU will be more than you can ever imagine and I would go back in a minute if I could. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
