Xyloskalo Restaurant - Εστιατόριο Ξυλόσκαλο

One of the most beautiful locations for lunch I've been to. It is a drive to get there but you will see in my picture how fantastic the view. Food was great and the portions were also good.

Don't waste your time reading this review! JUST GO AND EXPERIENCE THIS AMAZING PLACE! The views are amazing and the food is equally as good. I am afraid of heights, but I felt secure the whole time and was in awe of the beauty this restaurant provides! Our group ordered a wide variety of food and everyone enjoyed their meals. The prices are fair (especially for the ambience) and the portions are large. If you do not feel like sitting outside, there are seats inside, away from the edges. Additionally, there are more seats on the outside deck that are a little further up the side of the restaurant. We did have one person with a handicap, but they were able to walk the stairs up into the restaurant. But please keep in mind that there is no elevator. There is a Cafe prior to reaching the restaurant while driving that is handicap accessible. But we did not stop there. There is no parking lot for the restaurant and you will need to park on the side of the road. There was only one person servicing the customers and making drinks and one person cooking when we visited. He was running to the other tables (5 other tables during our visit). However, their service was excellent and we did not feel forgotten.

We came in the peak holiday season; the weekend after New Year. The place was packed and the wait to order was expectedly long. The food didn’t come long after. So, we were not as unlucky as some of the reviews. We ordered the Xyloskalo salad, cooked lamb, potatoes with mizythra cheese, and lamb chops. All dishes were excellent except for the lamb chops; you had to look for meat on them. The house red wine was excellent.

The views from the restaurant are amazing. Altought when you receive the food you will be swarmed by dozens of bees. Meat is great, chips are good but some salad would be nice. We were also first order that day and had to wait almost 50 minutes for our food.

After a long walk in the snow we sat down for a cup of coffee, the service was amazing, the coffee was delicious and the atmosfeer was great

Obviously gorgeous view. Dreadful music, indifferent staff, tourist thing. No one cares. I had a salad and it had so much vinegar it was inedible. I asked for no balsamic (a new horror from a bottle). They had no idea.

Absolutely beautiful view. Stunning. Unfortunately we arrived just as a large group did so we did have to wait for a while for our food, but with such a view, it didn't matter. And the food was worth the wait. I had the local lamb cooking in olive oil and we also had the chicken souvlaki. Delicious! I'd highly recommend this place.

Unbelievable views and delicious Cretan cuisine. Our party of 7 had an amazing meal here in the early afternoon overlooking the steep rock faces of the gorge. The Chicken Souvlaki was the best version of the dish I had in Crete. You have to try the fried potatoes and Pork shank. 2 of our group said it was the best pork cut they had ever eaten. Great seasoning and presentation and very good prices.
