Y-Loft (Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hong Kong’s got a plentiful supply of high-end luxury hotels, but a low-frills, budget-friendly, youth-oriented boutique hotel — especially one as stylish as Y-Loft — is a much less common phenomenon. It’s located right by the Chai Wan MTR terminal, in the Youth Square development, an events space (and hostel complex) run by the Hong Kong government for the benefit of local and international students. The accommodations are no doubt spartan by luxury-boutique standards, but they’re miles more stylish than any government-operated hostel we’ve ever seen — especially the artist-designed rooms." - Tablet Hotels

The 6 Best Hostels in Hong Kong (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated Y‑Loft's amenities: every room has an en-suite shower, there are common areas on each floor, a gym, Wi‑Fi, and linens included. The dorms are designed by local artists creating colorful spaces; with 148 rooms (including accessible rooms) it's large, kid-friendly, close to shopping, food and the metro, and while not the cheapest option it offers good value." - Matthew Kepnes

I had never stayed in a hostel in HK before. But I can stay Y loft is one of the best. 24 hours reception, laundry and gym, high privacy room, comfortable and clean environment, I never expected they have fridge and TV in a hostel room, and their staffs reorganized the room and renew the towers everyday! We would love to stay again! :)

The hotel is suitable for students and short stay tourist. It is away from tourists area. The free breakfast is too little to meet the nutrient guideline. A cup of coffee, very small muffin and a small fruit. You have to eat in your room.

Overall I only can say just average, I booked that hotel 6 months ago that I can get a good deal, based on the early bird price is ok, but if I pay in regular full price, I can say that not reaching the level, you can have lots of choices or even better out there. Breakfast included, but only bread and coffee. The coffee from the machine is pretty good. The room is spacious, not bad, but the sound proof not that good. They have a laundry room, washer and dryer, easy to operate, not bad. They change your towels and bed sheets only when needed. Maybe their point is Eco friendly, but it's like I said, if I pay full price, that is not what I expected. One thing I am not happy with, one time when I back to hotel late at night, my room door not close probably, anyone can push and get into my room, that really shock me, I didn't go to reception to complaint, I don't think they can do anything other than say "o, sorry", and luckily I didn't lost anything.

Great price for the size and cleanliness of the apartment. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is not the best, but for the price it’s okay.

We are uttered amazed with standard of New World managed government initiative for Youth in Hong Kong. We were a bit sceptical initially with the budget priced but inspirational room design and eye catching photos of the property until we checked in. Receptionist Ms Tam Tam is so friendly and comforting which is a rare gem in the hospitality industry. The rooms albeit a bit tiring after 10 years of service require major overhaul, the management team with limited budget had been managing it so well with daily upkeep refurbishment in maintaining its Price Value Equation which is exceptional by Hong Kong standard. I highly recommend adventurers who plan to long stay in HK to savour this property and you can appreciate what value for money really means. The location, convenience to public transport, accessibility to local street food are strategic advantages of this property. Last but not least, the housekeeping team is top shelf. Dedicated thorough and responsive.

I could book the hotel why stayed for a few days. Cleanliness, large, and so friendly costs. Unbelievable that I was at the Y Loft in SG ?! Also they have prepared fruits, breads and some coffees for break fast. It was a bit expensive the coin laundry but okey. You can use it by Octopus anyway. It was good stay and it made me like to stay in HK finally. Also it was great to connect with the airport by bus A12. It took time under 5 mins from hotel.

Nice location and helpful staff. Some hygiene issues can be improved but overall not affecting the stay.

Great location, 5 minutes away from the metro. It is far from the town but easy to get around as there is a bus station around 15 minutes away and the metro is very nearby. There is a gym, and convenient shops on the first floor. There are no toiletries at all so you will need to bring your own.I took a bus to the beach and the beach market.

Yelp
I had a great experience staying at Y-Loft during my four-night stay in Hong Kong. We were all there for my brothers wedding and had chosen this area because it's close to where my now-sister in law's family lives (in Chai Wan). A whole bunch of us had rented rooms (about 16 people) here at Y-Loft for the destination wedding and had a great experience. The rooms are very spacious and there are a lot of amenities located within Y-Loft Square. Unfortunately I was too busy to explore these amenities, but they do exist here! The rooms included a mini fridge, a safe, washroom with shower, closet, three over-sized single beds, strong wifi, housecleaning if you want it, and a laundry area nearby. By over-sized single beds I mean they weren't the size of your regular American twin size beds. These bed could potentially fit a couple or two girls. This was a breath of fresh air for all of us staying here as we had just come from a tiny apartment in Tokyo! Yes, Chai Wan is at the end of the MTR and doesn't sound as fancy as Tsim Sha Tsui or Causeway Bay areas, but Chai Wan is only a short 25 minute or so ride to Central station. If you're out longer in the night and the MTR's are closed, taxi's are very cheap in Hong Kong. Definitely a nice stay here for the price with MTR right by the square. Service was great if you ever needed anything at front desk. There was always someone there when you needed something like an extra roll of toilet paper.

Yelp
I'm traveling for business first within the States, then for pleasure connecting to HKG. Unfortunately, my flights got cancelled due to weather conditions and I had to make adjustments to my plans. In an attempt to cancel or adjust my stay with Y-Loft, the staff was not understanding at all of my situation and refuse to provide refund or fee adjustment of any kind. I spoke to three different employees over the phone, told them my story, gave them the cancelled flight details, and they all said that they already charged me in full and they're not the ones at fault with my situation, so nothing of the $1,000+ USD will be returned to me. Each of them reminded me to review the booking policy prior to making reservations like it was my fault for my flight cancellation. I understand if I was making up some sort of bogus story to back out of the stay, but these guys are rude and unwilling to help!! I guess you get what you paid for... I know for a fact that something would've been done about my inconvenient situation f I was staying with any of the Starwood hotels. :'( sad-face x1000
