Y-Loft (Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hong Kong’s got a plentiful supply of high-end luxury hotels, but a low-frills, budget-friendly, youth-oriented boutique hotel — especially one as stylish as Y-Loft — is a much less common phenomenon. It’s located right by the Chai Wan MTR terminal, in the Youth Square development, an events space (and hostel complex) run by the Hong Kong government for the benefit of local and international students. The accommodations are no doubt spartan by luxury-boutique standards, but they’re miles more stylish than any government-operated hostel we’ve ever seen — especially the artist-designed rooms." - Tablet Hotels

The 6 Best Hostels in Hong Kong (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated Y‑Loft's amenities: every room has an en-suite shower, there are common areas on each floor, a gym, Wi‑Fi, and linens included. The dorms are designed by local artists creating colorful spaces; with 148 rooms (including accessible rooms) it's large, kid-friendly, close to shopping, food and the metro, and while not the cheapest option it offers good value." - Matthew Kepnes

12th floor rooms are better than the 14th floor. Wish the outlets were better placed though. Elevator waiting area on the 14th floor is awful in the summertime. Laundry service makes staying long term convenient.

Y Loft is more like a hostel than a hotel. This is the second time I stay here. Although it's not a five-star luxury hotel, I would choose it again in the future because I was generally satisfied with it. 1. Staff Service : From the front desk reception (24 hours), housekeeping service, security to mechanical maintenance, all the staff are hardworking, efficient, very friendly, and helpful. 2. Facilities and amenities : While the facilities and amenities may not compare to large luxury hotels, the basic room facilities are complete. Rooms are cleaned daily, towels are changed, and bed sheets are changed weekly. The main floor has a self-service laundry room, a small gym, and various recreational facilities. I heard the hostel is about to undergo renovations, and I look forward to a fresh look when I return next year. 3. Convenient Location, Excellent Transportation : The A12 airport bus goes directly to the hostel; the stop is right outside the hostel, making it more convenient than the MTR. Needless to say, you can go everywhere and anywhere in the city by MTR. The hostel is located in the local residential area “Chai Wan”. It is right across from the Chai Wan MTR station and connected by a pedestrian bridge. Below the MTR station are the bus, minibus and taxi terminus. Nearby are three community shopping malls, an open market, and a wet market. Behind the hostel is the nice Chai Wan Park. Since Chai Wan is nestled among several hills, it boasts numerous well-equipped country parks and hiking trails, making it an ideal destination for hikers. Furthermore, it's about a 10-minute drive to beaches such as Big Wave Bay, Silver Bay, and Shek O. Shek O also features barbecue areas, the Shek O Country Club, and an 18-hole golf course. Stanley, a famous tourist spot, is only a 15-minute drive away, and I never miss visiting when in Hong Kong. 4. Summary: Good value for money; I would certainly choose this hostel again.

Convenient Location: take MTR to Chai Wan Terminus, exit A, walk through the mall (1 min walk ), once leave the mall door, look at right, you may see Y Loft (4 mins walk), take the elevator to 2/F, then take the lift to 12/F reception to check in. If you come from Airport, take A12 (HK$47) and walk 5 mins. Many restaurants nearby.Security: I feel very safe even though I arrive the Hotel by 01:00am, security staff asks for our name before letting us take the elevator, at 2/F, another security will show us which lift to take to 12/F.Very quiet & clean room: not too close to other residential buildings, so you have good sleep.Laundry: HK$30 to wash your clothes and HK$30 to dry.It is the third time I stay in Y Loft, very happy. The building a bit old, but no complaint for what I paid.

1 night stay, checkout time is 12pm, housekeeping goes around knocks on all doors at 9:30am, asking if they need to clean the room in Chinese, OPENS our door, not sure how they think this kind of operation and service is acceptable. After having worked at a hotel before, there should be a simple departure / housekeeping list for stayovers so you don’t go around knocking on every door and opening peoples doors in the morning. Heard other rooms complaining too. Large door gap in bathroom. Room doesn’t have outlets to charge phone, just one power strip far away so we had to unplug the various lamps and air filter and bring it over so companion can charge her phone

I had never stayed in a hostel in HK before. But I can stay Y loft is one of the best. 24 hours reception, laundry and gym, high privacy room, comfortable and clean environment, I never expected they have fridge and TV in a hostel room, and their staffs reorganized the room and renew the towers everyday! We would love to stay again! :)

The location is good as it is near a MTR station. The room should have more hooks for hanging clothes and towels. Despite that I would recommend this hotel.

I had a frustrating experience with the hotel's response to my request for an extension during the super typhoon in Hing Kong. I understand that room availability can be a challenge. However, given the extreme weather conditions and the fact that most flights were canceled, I was hoping for a more empathetic approach. As guests facing difficulties due to circumstances beyond our control, a bit of understanding and support would go a long way. Disappointed at all.

clean and quiet room, nice staff, jusr walk 5 minutes from Chai Wan MTR Terminal with cover (no worry about rain). It is the second time stay here, a bit old but that is fine

Yelp
I had a great experience staying at Y-Loft during my four-night stay in Hong Kong. We were all there for my brothers wedding and had chosen this area because it's close to where my now-sister in law's family lives (in Chai Wan). A whole bunch of us had rented rooms (about 16 people) here at Y-Loft for the destination wedding and had a great experience. The rooms are very spacious and there are a lot of amenities located within Y-Loft Square. Unfortunately I was too busy to explore these amenities, but they do exist here! The rooms included a mini fridge, a safe, washroom with shower, closet, three over-sized single beds, strong wifi, housecleaning if you want it, and a laundry area nearby. By over-sized single beds I mean they weren't the size of your regular American twin size beds. These bed could potentially fit a couple or two girls. This was a breath of fresh air for all of us staying here as we had just come from a tiny apartment in Tokyo! Yes, Chai Wan is at the end of the MTR and doesn't sound as fancy as Tsim Sha Tsui or Causeway Bay areas, but Chai Wan is only a short 25 minute or so ride to Central station. If you're out longer in the night and the MTR's are closed, taxi's are very cheap in Hong Kong. Definitely a nice stay here for the price with MTR right by the square. Service was great if you ever needed anything at front desk. There was always someone there when you needed something like an extra roll of toilet paper.

Yelp
I'm traveling for business first within the States, then for pleasure connecting to HKG. Unfortunately, my flights got cancelled due to weather conditions and I had to make adjustments to my plans. In an attempt to cancel or adjust my stay with Y-Loft, the staff was not understanding at all of my situation and refuse to provide refund or fee adjustment of any kind. I spoke to three different employees over the phone, told them my story, gave them the cancelled flight details, and they all said that they already charged me in full and they're not the ones at fault with my situation, so nothing of the $1,000+ USD will be returned to me. Each of them reminded me to review the booking policy prior to making reservations like it was my fault for my flight cancellation. I understand if I was making up some sort of bogus story to back out of the stay, but these guys are rude and unwilling to help!! I guess you get what you paid for... I know for a fact that something would've been done about my inconvenient situation f I was staying with any of the Starwood hotels. :'( sad-face x1000
