Fantastic views of the mountains to the north from both the rooms and the grand lobby. The enormous tree in the lobby was apparently sculpted by Hollywood set designers and cost a fortune. The pool room is quite a nice atrium design and is great for a relaxing soak. Overall, I enjoyed the retro architecture and aesthetic with grandeur not found in more modern hotels. The course dinner exceeded my expectations compared to typical ryokan buffets. The staff at dinner were also very friendly.

It is a very old hotel. Everything is old. Bathroom, shower, hair dryer that I can't use because it has no power. Bed and blanket should be changed to a new one but the owner doesn't want to change. Breakfast is the same almost every day. There is not much choice. Wi-Fi is not working. It is the worst and expensive hotel. The service is not worth the money paid. The hotel should be closed down and renovated. The furniture in the room is old beyond description.

The Yakushima Iwasaki Hotel was unfortunately a big disappointment. It started at check-in at 12 noon, when the unfriendly front office manager didn't want to give us the room, even though it was ready. When we finally got to the room, we were amazed at how old it was. The bed and mattress felt 50 years old. It felt like a black and white film. In the morning, the breakfast was disappointing. If you don't like fish, you have almost no choice. When we checked out, they wanted to charge us 300 yen a day for a bathing tax, even though we never bathed. That should have been included in a room that cost USD 272 per night. The lady at reception couldn't speak a word of English and she couldn't use the translation device either. The Wi-Fi is also a disaster. In this price category, I expect much more! We will never book a hotel in the Iwasaki Group again, they lack passion for the customer.

The hotel is clean and nice. It has a retro feel, feels a little like 80s. Service is good. The rooms are big and the beds are good. However the western style rooms uses American style bedding which is very annoying. (comforter + top sheet that is tucked is very annoying to sleep with) Dinner and breakfast is quite good and service is on point. I enjoyed the stay overall. Main point of improvement would be to use duvets with duvet covers which is by far superior to US style bedding.

The view of the hotel is amazing, either sea-side or mountain-side. Although there are many weird rules in place. Women are not allowed to use the pool with a bikini, they have to wear a full body swimsuit. On the other hand, I got stared at in a sexual way by the main (head of) waiter/reception in the restaurant person which felt gross. He would put my chair to the table and used this moment to stare at my butt. In general, this hotel feels like a ghost town, great view but not well kept at all. I would not recommend it. Rooms are very outdated and the price of the hotel is not worth the stay.

Perfect getaway, delicious breakfast and dinner but expect dinner to be expensive, but it was worth it because of the views and no restaurants are open. Gorgeous room and lobby and the onsen was nice

You know from the drive up to the hotel that you are arriving to something special. I will keep it short - we had an excellent 3 night stay at this resort hotel.||The staff were extremely attentive to our every needs - the chef whipped us up with delicious vegetarian meals that were pictures (we did not stop taking pictures of the dishes we were served). We asked for directions for a recommended site on the Island - the following morning we were given a satellite picture of the site with exact directions. Just a few examples.||The Hotel grounds are beautiful and do not miss the waterfall about a 20 minute walk.||The bedroom was very lovely with comfy beds, linens, towels - modern, light and clean. The view (either side is amazing).||Dining room is very nice and so is the spa , lobby and other public areas. ||Nice farewell from the staff to end this lovely memorable stay.

Stayed here on a business trip and I was assigned a twin room with a mountain view on the 5th floor of the hotel - the highest floor. The view at the lobby was really stunning - ceiling high glass panels to show the mountains!! They even have a tree in the centre of the lobby and the staff were outside to greet and send off arriving guests. ||That aside, the rooms were huge and spacious but the decoration was a bit dated, they might do better if they had changed the design to something more modern. The bathroom was huge, but there's this window that you can open while you are at the basin - i suppose to see the stunning mountain view, lol. The dining halls are all at level 5 so it was pretty convenient for me. The breakfast selection was so-so but the views were again amazing.
