Stayed in November and had a mixed experience.
I wouldn't book here again for two reasons - 1. Recent strikes in Belgium affected the airport and I had to amend my flight dates by one day. The reception manager, Caroline, flat out refused to accommodate the new booking (moving it by one day!) and said that I'd need to pay €295 (Saturday) for the extra night. My booking was non-refundable so I can understand this reasoning if I was trying to amend the booking for personal reasons. However, this was a national strike and to remain so inflexible for your customers even in exceptional circumstances is ridiculous. This caused me a lot of unnecessary stress, frustration and time wasted trying to rearrange my trip. Read other reviews, it's a common experience with Yalo.
I've seen one response advising customers to book with them directly if they want a refundable/amendable booking - then why advertise on other travel websites?
2. I was initially given an accessible room (really nice interior, well designed and spacious) but I don't like wet rooms and didn't need this so I asked if I could change. I was told the hotel was full but reception looked and offered an alternative - however the room was so much smaller, and had none of the same charm or warmth. The bathroom was a few steps from the bed, instead of in a hallway, which made the room feel quite closed in. Luckily I was able to stay in the first room. After reading so many glowing reviews of Yalo, I would have been so disappointed if I was given this room on first arrival.
Rooms in general - mirrors are dark and you can't use them as normal mirrors. Hanging rail for clothes and safe are placed really high up in the rooms (designed for tall men?). Water pressure was low. Other than those points, the room was clean, bed was comfortable and the room had lots of lighting.
Positives - one staff member (the blonde guy at reception) was so friendly, and always had a lovely attitude when we spoke. He gets 5 stars on his own and definitely boosted the rating for this hotel.
Location - well located for walking around and seeing the city, but mostly for shopping. The tram outside takes you to Ghent's main train station.
