I have eaten here for many years and have never had less than an amazing meal! The service is friendly and quick. The restaurant is clean as are the bathrooms. Their sushi is top notch!

Google
Great food. Absolutely amazing. But the service was super slow. Three guys working: 2 tables sitting and some togo orders. They def need another person or 2. But awesome sushi; go if you have ample time or a book to read.

Google
An authentic Japanese cuisine experience in a casual setting. The tuna roll was delicious, the miso soup was homemade and the peanut dressing on the salad was amazing! The chicken teriyaki was tender and flavorful. It was a pleasant surprise to see dishes like yakisoba and bulgogi offered on the menu. Our server was kind and courteous and mentioned that on Sundays they offer an all you can eat sushi special for just under $30 per person.

Google
We went in not expecting much but were blown away by the quality of sushi and service. The host and waitresses were very friendly and nice. The chefs were making everything fresh and quickly restocking all sushi. Everyone was working really hard there. We thoroughly enjoyed their all you can eat menu (included a free drink and appetizers plus 22 different sushi handmade rolls). We left full and satisfied. Thank you all so much!

Google
I really like this place. They aren't perfect, but I've not seen any restaurant try harder than Yamafuji. The owner puts a lot of effort into the sushi and has a chef that really knows what he's doing. I've experienced servers here in the past that were just terrible, but them management seems to have a good crew working now. Zayniyah is really the best and strives to ensure the customers are having a great experience.

Google
The sushi was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. I had the pork katsu which was delicious, hot and huge! Our server was very polite and prompt. Overall a great experience and excellent food! Highly recommend and would absolutely return and bring friends and family.

Google
YamaFuji is a bit of a mixed bag - the exterior is really run-down looking, but the inside looks quite nice. The bathrooms were quite dirty - it felt like nobody cleaned them (there was no soap, for starters). Our server quoted the current day's deals incorrectly but he was really friendly and accommodated us well. The food came out really slowly but it was delicious! We got the salmon lover roll and some spicy salmon tempura rolls and both were delicious and a reasonable price too. Overall, not the best experience but the food was good enough that I'd consider going back.

Google
The food was pretty good and the staff was nice. Some dishes were interesting (in a good way), like the tofu noodle soup with mountain vegetables. The dishes came out when ready and were very far apart and we were mostly done when my child received her meal, for example. It would be great if they had more tofu options.

Yelp
Smokey flavor and yum yum sauce. Yamafuji was a delight. We eat a lot of asian and oriental cuisine as my wife prefers sushi almost every meal and I choose the fried rice options every time. This one stood out to me. As many places in the DC area seem to offer variants in their fried rice such as green bean or corn, this adds very small amounts of broccoli. The part that stands out is the SMOKEY flavor the meal offers which make the taste buds dance with joy. It was delicious it almost made me sad. (weird emotions I know) But the meal was able to bring so much feeling. I believe it was the pepper added to it which the others don't do which helped. This time I chose chicken over my usual shrimp and it was a great choice. The chicken was very tender and soft. They provided plenty of yum yum sauce. Totally recommend this friendly place.

Yelp
Quick Tip: Stick with sushi and do takeout/delivery. Sushi is their strength. Tonight I sampled several nigiri, the soft shell crab hand roll, and two flavors of mochi ice cream. The fatty tuna was fantastic and stood out from the rest. Inari is an old favorite that Yamafuji does well, and the bluefin tuna's texture was juuuuuust right. Thought the blue crab was dull; not what I expected. And the surf clam was new for me - a thick, chewy delight. Handroll was good but probably tastes better when dining in (as all fried items do), and the ice cream was meh (neither mango nor red bean tastes like mango or red bean). All in all, this is my go-to for sushi but nothing more - and that's a-okay with me!

Brad R.

Yelp
Amazing and fresh. Staff is wonderful and the service is great! The food is so good that we came two nights in a row with more family members!

Karyn R.

Yelp
The chef came to the table to describe items we had questions about. The food is fresh and delicious! Service is excellent, waitstaff attentive and respectful.

Ken K.

Yelp
The inside is nice and the waitstaff is very friendly but the food leaves a lot to be desired. We ordered the O-Toro and salmon nigiri, the rice was underseasoned and had an odd texture. The o-toro was definitely not tuna belly and was chewy. The shrimp tempura roll that we ordered was missing half the components. How do you forget the sauce on a roll? I don't know if they were having an off day but not worth the detour.

Yelp
The menu is superb. Far more interesting sushi menu than most places, the breadth is remarkable and reflects this is run by Japanese who know what they're doing. Noodle dishes and a broad selection of traditional Japanese dishes as well. Nice people, service was very good, though we walked in at around 3:30. The place is a bit worn. You go here to eat well, not impress a date. We had a few apps from the sushi menu, a couple of rolls and about a dozen nigiri. The quality of the fish was superb. Sushi rice was a bit on the dry side and not as flavored as we make or are used to. Still excellent, just another variation. Priced very right, at least from what we're used to. Glad we went, definitely a find, highly recommended.

M S.

Yelp
It's a shame for so many in this country, this is considered as "good sushi"... Friendly and polite service and comfortable setting. Just wish the food was better - both rice and fish were dry, and there is nothing authentic other than names on the menu.

Ginger C.

Yelp
We were headed back from Skyline and needed a quick dinner, but it was late (after 8) and everything seemed closed. Found Yamafuji on Yelp and called to make sure they were open and then headed that way. Service was friendly, food was great, and if we're ever up that way again we would definitely stop by for some gyoza and Ramen!

David P.

Yelp
Five star food and service. Sushi, nigiri, bento boxes, and gyoza - all was on point.

Jason Plosch C.

Yelp
Went in on a Thursday evening to celebrate the end of the school year. Clean restaurant with polite staff and excellent food. You are getting authentic Japanese, including nigiri sushi and sashimi, in Front Royal! Nice little selection of Japanese beer and sake. Worth every penny. Highly recommend.

Bella M.

Yelp
The food is good, but when I placed a to go order I got home and a roll was missing from the bag. I called and told them about the issue, and even sent in a picture. They gave me no further help other than telling me it was in there, when it clearly wasn't. No refund and no remake.

David C.

Yelp
Gem of a restaurant in an unexpected place. The food was excellent and the service was warm and friendly. Definitely a place we will visit again, and soon.

John G.

Yelp
Great food and wonderful service!!! When I'm in Front Royal it's a must eat every time!!

Helen Z.

Yelp
In general, this place looks pretty run down, but don't let that fool you. The food is really good, with the really amazingly fresh sushi and fish, to the soft and creamy mochi. The waitress was an old lady who I think mistook us for someone else, but was really nice. Overall, this place is a pretty good place to get sushi and I would come here again.

Alex N.

Yelp
Excellent sushi buffet/all you can eat. I'm amazed that rural front royal Virginia has this good of Japanese food. Food: Great tasting appetizers including gyoza, vegetable tempura, chicken katsu, seasoned salad, edamame. Delicious and creative sushi rolls - fresh and good quality ingredients Service: Friendly, attentive and efficient Ambience: Traditional Japanese cultural decor

Aleah M.

Yelp
We were in Front Royal overnight and found this gem. The service was spectacular! We were feeling adventurous, so we ordered the Omakase..everything was delicious! We look forward to going back!

Lila N.

Yelp
Really good! Very helpful as we are vegans made sure all was safe for us to eat. Very tasty.. The staff was very attentive.

Sarah Z.

Yelp
The food here was really good and fresh, except when the waitress kept flirting with my boyfriend.

Gulnara M.

Yelp
We came to Fort Royal for a weekend getaway to hike in Shenandoah park, stopped by Jamafuji for dinner amd we're not disappointed by friendly service and quality authentic Japanese dishes. There's a chef making super fresh sushi in front of customers. It felt like we went to Japan. Thank you for a great experience at affordable prices.

Richard X.

Yelp
I love sashimi and nigiri and have enjoyed every dinner there. I drive over from the Moorefield W.V. area just to enjoy their outstanding meals. I prefer them to the other Japanese restaurants in the area. I have taken several visiting friends from out of State and they too have agreed with my choice for sushi, sashimi and nigiri.

Necro Nick B.

Yelp
Everything pretty good. Their miso soup is some of the best I have had! Tempura is good as is the scallop katsu. We have never eaten there, always get carry out...

David M.

Yelp
Don't judge this book by its cover. From the outside it almost looks abandoned, inside is a little better, but the sushi is fantastic. I've eaten sushi in Japan, so I know what to expect, and they get it. Their sushi and sashimi are excellent, always fresh, and presented well. I would order items from the kitchen, but sushi is more more critical than tempura. Friendly chefs and wait staff. Highly recommended.

Henry C.

Yelp
Ordered $50 Omakase, all I received is 15 pieces of sushi , it was not even fresh, quality is similar to buffet if not worse. Restroom was not cleaned either. Customer service however is excellent. Might be only option in town, but if you have a choice, better spend your money elsewhere.

Jazzie P.

Yelp
The new waitresses are HORRIBLE!! We picked what we wanted on the menu and waited for the waitress to come and take our order. We waited and waited eventually my fiancé got up and gave the chef our order. Not to mention we waited 20 minutes just for her to come ask me what i wanted to drink. By the time i got my drink half our food was already out. The entire time the blonde waitress kept asking my fiance if we were ready for the check yet... Multiple times while we were eating. Very rude. I miss Brittany. She was the sweetest and made sure we were tooken care of. Their food is delicious though and the chef up front is always kind and polite.

Jessica M.

Yelp
The food is excellent. Hallie and Brittany the servers are amazing. Andrew the sushi chef does a jam up job!!! But it's not a place you would want to work at!!! The mgr. Yumi is very rude and disrespectful And treats her staff very poorly! If you don't mind being disrespected then it's the job for you!

Corrie S.

Yelp
Fantastic food in an unexpected location! Admittedly ended up ordering here after another FroRo location stopped delivering to our house. But we are so glad that happened, because this will be an "I'm craving that" kind of place. Sushi - so good. Fried rice- sooo good. Spring rolls - omg soooo good. This will absolutely be a go-to for us from now on. Cannot wait to try it in person!!

Yelp
I am conflicted about last nights dinner, we brought my brother-in-law for his second sushi experience, his grand-nephew wanted to stay with us rather than go home with Momma, so a bit of circus was to be expected. Danny and I left the toddler sleeping with my wife and ordered some starters: 3 water, 2 green tea, 1hot sake, gyoza and 2 seaweed salads..... Well, nothing happened! The parking lot was packed, place humming, baby sleeping, bliss, but NO service, go figure........ Our 95 lbs waitress was SOLO! (WELL, it wasn't like this this A.M.) One old and skilled Korean sushi master and and a cook (?) In the back were the whole staff, geepers! Sorry, got interupted, lost your order, restart. By this time I am needing a beer but not willing to pay $4 for a brew I can see through, about the time the deep fried beef gyoza show up so does the toddler and grandma, no water, out of miso soup (!!!) Getting dry here....... I will rest here, food was quite good but sashimi and nigiri on the skimpy side, on the positive no cucumber julienne under the seaweed salad. Sigh! Left a big tip.

Maddie A.

Yelp
This place has been my regular restaurant. They messed up one time but made sure I was fed. I got my food one hour later. If you want to sit and eat there do not go during rush hour. But great food great atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend. Btw the shrimp tempura is amazing :)

Kelly W.

Yelp
So much yum! Nice staff, wonderful food...can't beat that! Thank you for a lovely experience!

Angela K.

Yelp
Min the sushi chef is an excellent sushi chef and just an all around friendly person. Min treats his staff nicely. The sushi is fantastic. They have an all you can eat buffet on Sunday from 4 to 9, it includes appetizers too! If your particular about Japanese salad dressing like i am youll love the peanut miso tasting dressing. Oishi! The whole restaurant and bathrooms are very clean. I am from the San Francisco bay area and feel I am a good judge of sushi quality. I hope you enjoy. Katie the waitress we had was so nice to us. We can't wait to go back

Stuart P.

Yelp
I was dying for some sushi and saw this place on Yelp. Definitely worth five stars. The server was pleasant and funny. The sushi was amazing. The softshell crab was crispy and light. The unagi warm and just the right amount of sweet.

Phuong N.

Yelp
The owner/server was a little nosy and asked a lot of personal questions. Otherwise food is fairly decent.

Vasara K.

Yelp
My absolute favorite in the area. This is hands down the best sushi in the area. Always fresh, delicious, and a decent variety on the menu. Their buffet is an excellent value as well.

Mercadeez R.

Yelp
Very nice staff. Delicious sushi! Great prices too. It's a great place to go when you get a sudden craving!

Pat H.

Yelp
Great sushi deluxe, shrimp tendon, and half priced roll of the day, tempura crunch. Service was friendly, fast, and all of my questions were answered. The sushi deluxe had large pieces of fish, nicely presented. My shrimp were placed on top of other veggie tempura pieces including zuke, potato, eggplant, and maybe a gourd of some sort in addition to a mix of stir fried onions, carrots, broccoli bits, egg, and mixed in with a flavorful sauce all topping a mound of rice in a bowl. Perfect to the last grain of rice.

Amy A.

Yelp
Would give it a five, but SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. Food is super delicious and I guess it is worth the wait, but the waitresses were extremely forgetful and rude. They forgot 2 soups with our order and were very reluctant to give us a discount on our meals. If you do come to this place, I recommend getting take out because they prioritize that more than the actual customers inside the restaurant.

Curtsy H.

Yelp
Folks: A warning if you order either the regular OR deluxe sashimi to-go...I have never once recieved the number of pieces of fish that is advertised on the menu. It is always at least 6-8 pieces short. Tonight I ordered the deluxe (32) pieces and when I got to my car I had to count. I counted 20. Called the restaraunt from out front to inquire why it was short. The server came out and apologized and took it back in to ask the chef. I suggested they change the menu to reflect the actual # of pieces. She returned and said the chef said it was 25 (!?). I asked if he added more, she said he did. I drove an hour round trip to pick this up. Got home and counted exactly 24. While the sashimi was decent, next time I have a craving for it I will drive the extra miles to Culpeper for my sashimi fix. That is all.

Pat D.

Yelp
This has to be the worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. It's not because of the food but because of the service. It too 15 minutes for me to get my hot sake. Then I received the sushi dinner instead of the sashimi deluxe dinner. Then to pour salt on the wound, the sushi chef asks what kind of fish I would like for a complementary roll which I never got. I received the full bill with no discounts. I won't be back!!!

Alex H.

Yelp
Solid sushi that's always fresh, especially considering the area. The sashimi is very good, and there are some excellent chef special rolls. Really strong bet if you're visiting and hankering for a taste of the city in the country.

Julia H.

Yelp
Again best food we do carry out! The sushi was perfect I got a spicy salmon, geisha, Philly,Vegas, ocean crab and spider roll. My son and I could of eaten 3 more! Always happy with their food, this is only sushi place I will go to in a 30 mile radius. Have had several bad experiences at Mikado's in front royal and a few in Winchester. Glad I don't have to drive all the way to Vienna anymore

Mo M.

Yelp
Yamafuji is sooo good. The freshness and quality of food was amazing. Prices are very reasonable. You could get sea urchin for $4.95, while at other places you would pay about $15 for the same order. The chef was so kind and sent to our table free sushi. The server "Jessica" is very friendly and attentive. Thanks!

Erik W.

Yelp
Yummy! Sushi after a long hard hiking from Old rag mountains, life is good! Sushi is good, service is good, but kinda creepy that I was the only one who was there at the time..... Lol oh well I guess the lesser ppl there the better service I get then.

J H.

Yelp
It's possible the sushi at this restaurant is wonderful. It's possible I would have enjoyed dining here. Unfortunately, after being seated in the restaurant the staff never returned with water or to take our order. Our waitress studiously ignored us as we tried to get her attention. Finally after 20 minutes, we departed. Having spent many years overseas and being a huge fan of Japan, I was very shocked and disappointed by the rudeness and lack of service at this restaurant. Caveat emptor.

Kathy A.

Yelp
WOWZA! We're from Northern Virginia and we've had sushi from all over the country. It's our ish. That being said, driving through Front Royal the sushi bug hit us. We stopped in for a quick bite on a Friday afternoon. The place was quiet and inviting. We weren't expecting to love it as most of the reviews don't give this place the credit it deserves. It's far from a hole in the wall with ok sushi. It's awesome and has a great selection! The staff was efficient, helpful and nice! One of the sushi chefs actually served us. We started with the gyoza which were perfectly fried. Next, we got sashimi salmon, fatty tuna, and scallop. All three were amazing and so FRESH!!!! It's so important to have fresh fish and YamaFuji delivers! We normally get more sushimi but they had such a great selection of rolls we decided to get two! We chose the the vegas roll (fried eel deliciousness) and the lollipop (fresh fish assortment on sticks!) which were both fantastic. The chef even included another smaller roll on the house. We didn't catch the name but it was delicious! It had cream cheese, was deep fried and had tasty crab salad on top. YUM! The surprise hit was the Sake sampler! We had never had one and it was a wonderful journey. The chef even brought over the bottles to show us each item in the flight. Definitely try that! We were blown away by this little gem in Front Royal. If you're looking for sushi, this is the place for you! We'll definitely be making the drive back soon!

RodRang N.

Yelp
Sushi is ok no wow factor, very small slices comes in only 6 pieces. The sashimi is really good , slices are bigger from other sushi places we've eaten.

Rikki R.

Yelp
It is good Sushi, portions are very small. What makes it worth it is the Sunday Buffet, but they don't have it anymore

Steven L.

Yelp
So I'm giving this place 5 stars not because it's 5 star sushi, but because it's not 3 star sushi. I wasn't expecting much, but they delivered much. The sushi is fresh, the Japanese pop music was fresh and the ice is to die for. Yep, you read that right. The ice is like balls of snow. Anyway as a sushi snob, this is as good as the frozen fish laws in Virginia will allow it to be. Great service too.

Donna E.

Yelp
Service is terrible. I've ordered online and paid twice and both times some Korean lady lost the order. I had to wait over a hour for my carry out food. They waited on everyone in-dining and only did my order when they slowed down. Not a good experience.

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Love this place. Used to order all the time. Everything is very good. Only thing " a little negative " I have to say is. Sashimi has not been tasting to great. They get it in on Wednesday. So I make it a point to order around that time. It's been off. Which it normally isn't. Still a great place and my go to here in Front Royal. They are all so nice and welcoming as well.
